Work Text:
Jiro Kyoka awoke with a groan leaving her lips, the wooden chair she was sitting in doing no favors for her back. The ropes that held her torso in place to the back of the chair and her arms to her side were also an annoyance, although at least they weren’t so tight as to be uncomfortable.
…
It took the violette a short time (but still long enough to be embarrassing for the Heroine) to realize that she should be concerned to wake up in what was in all likelihood a kidnapping. As soon as she was aware of her predicament, Kyoka the songwriter and musician was replaced by the number 26 Hero Earphone Jack, her training kicking in as she opened her eyes and immediately scanned the room.
The immediate area surrounding her was illuminated by a single, dangling lightbulb, although Earphone Jack was just grateful that it wasn’t ominously flickering to complete the cliché. The room appeared to be at least at some point a storage room, empty shelves placed up against concrete walls. There was no other furniture besides her seat that the Hero could see, although that didn’t mean much as Earphone Jack couldn’t crane her neck enough to get a good look behind her, and the area in front of her outside the illumination provided by the lone light was nearly pitch black. All the violette knew was that she wasn’t alone.
Earphone Jack’s… well, jacks, were left both uncovered and unrestrained. While she wasn’t able to hear anything about what might be outside the room with its thick concrete walls without plugging one of her extra limbs into the surface, her Quirk enhanced sense was still strong enough to pick up the faint sounds of people breathing and the slight rustle of clothes. Five people seemed to be in the room, two to the front and the left of Earphone Jack, two more to the front and right, and one individual that stood just far enough to avoid being illuminated by the light.
‘Oh kami, they’re going to ominously walk into the light while saying something like ‘it seems our guest is finally awake.’ Did I get kidnapped by a movie studio?’ Earphone Jack thought to herself while she considered her options. ‘I may not have my wrist and boot speakers, but if these jackasses think that makes me defenseless then they have another thing coming.’
As soon as the Hero began to slide a jack towards the ropes to search for a knot to undo, the person standing in front of her spoke up. “I wouldn’t bother.” The voice was decidedly feminine, and quite youthful for a kidnapping villain. Although given the supernatural state of world, that didn’t mean much. “Your restraints are only there to give me the chance to talk with you. After that, we can move our separate ways.” Underneath her heroic visage, Kyoka wondered if the ‘I am here to talk ’ schtick was more or less egregious then everything else about her situation, but Earphone Jack was focused on the person in front of her. Or rather, her voice, and why it sounded so familiar.
“Alright, and you couldn’t just send me some fan mail or come to my agency because…?” As her question trailed off, the stranger only chuckled.
“Because then it wouldn’t be clear to you just how serious I am.” The woman stepped forth, no, the girl stepped forward, as she seemed to be in her first year of middle school. The fact she was wearing the uniform of a local middle school was just a confirmation. Her blueish-silver hair fell to the middle of her back, and a small horn originating from her right temple caught the light in an almost ethereal fashion. Kyoka felt her persona slip as she saw the girl in front of her. It may have been some time since they had met, but the violette would always remember the girl who used her Quirk to restore her missing jack after the war against All for One. “Eri?”
The young girl in question walked around a confused Kyoka, looking her up and down like she was a piece of furniture to be bought or a sculpture to be appraised, and not a Hero tied up against her will. As she completed a full circle around Kyoka, Eri seemed almost… unimpressed. “Now, just what makes you think you’re good enough to date my Papa?”
Yesterday, Downtown Musutafu
Kyoka sat in a café watching the news on the television from her usual spot towards the back, enjoying a day off without having to worry about villains, patrols, or the press. While she wasn’t opposed to the nigh constant media attention that came with her job, she wouldn’t have gone into spotlight Heroics if she was, the violette did enjoy having some time to herself without fear of being mobbed by fans. Momo had been the one to introduce her to the small establishment, which had apparently gotten popular with other Heroes due to the fact the owner wasn’t the type to snap a photo of a Hero to post on social media for easy revenue. It did help that the place served chocolate cake she was willing to murder for.
The television was muted to avoid drowning out the music playing throughout the building (a track from a Deep Dope album that released in her second year of high school), but the closed captions were enough to tell what was going on, as if the footage of a green blur darting into an alleyway after a villain wasn’t identifiable by itself.
“Deku is currently in pursuit of the A-rank villain, Raoul. Raoul is suspected to be responsible for multiple high-profile robberies across the country and has so far evaded capture despite multiple arrest attempts. While the details of his Quirk is unknown, Raoul is at the very least capable of limited self-teleportation.”
Kyoka grimaced as she took a sip of her coffee. Warpers were always a tricky bunch to handle solo, even the weaker ones. Several Heroes have admitted that they were taught as sidekicks the first step to handling warpers was to call for backup. She still had full confidence in Midoriya however, as the man was simply on another level. After the war with All for One faith in Heroes was at an all time low, with many wondering if Heroics as a profession should even continue. It even began to affect her own class, with several or her friends either publicly or privately questioning if being a Hero was even worth it if the public didn’t want them around.
Despite all this, it was Midoriya that kept everyone together and pushing forward, his own attitude of helping people even if they’re not wanted energizing not just their own class but even their sister class as well. By the time their graduation rolled around, the forty heroes began to shoot up the ranks, not just from their deeds during the war but their ubiquitous drive and dedication to the people as well. The change in the reactions and attitudes was slow, but over the years public relations kept taking noticeable upticks.
Things weren’t quite at the level of Hero worship they lived through as children, where simply slapping a top Heroes likeness on any product was enough to get it to sell, and it likely wouldn’t for a long time. If you asked her though, Kyoka would readily admit that was a good thing. She didn’t want her music career to only exit because it was being propped up by her Hero work, it just felt wrong.
Taking a spare glance back at the news footage, Kyoka couldn’t help but feel a slight pang in her chest as the reporters lost sight of the chase. It was during her second year in U.A. that Kyoka realized she was developing feelings towards Midoriya. During the first few weeks of school, she had always thought the boy was odd. Extremely meek with a self-destructive Quirk, he seemed like the furthest from Hero material in her class. That opinion improved after Tsu told her about the plan he made during the USJ in the flood section, and only kept improving as the year passed with every stunt he pulled, from his fight against Todoroki in the first Sports Festival to the raid against Overhaul. The two really got closer after Midoriya helped her out during the Culture Festival, the verdanette learning he quite liked punk despite Kyoka pegging him as modern pop guy. Kyoka’s heart even skipped a beat when she found out that Mirdoriya had total confidence her music would be able to make the girl rescued from the Yakuza smile again.
Interpersonal drama had to be placed on hold as conflict against the League of Villains turned Paranormal Liberation Front really kicked off, but by the time things had cooled down it finally clicked for Kyoka. There wasn’t some grand event that drew her attention towards him, nor did she find him in some state of undress. The class was having a small party after their semester finals, and Kyoka had been convinced to play a few songs on guitar. After every song, she couldn’t help but look to see how Midoriya reacted before anyone else, and every time she was on top of the world when the verdanette cheered her on. As she was returning her guitar back to its case, Kyoka paused as it hit her. She had fallen for him. Bad.
As she went to sleep after the party had ended, Kyoka found that sleep evaded her while she struggled with what to do. All the girls knew of how Uraraka felt towards Midoriya, and Kyoka felt that she just couldn’t compete with her. Not only was the brunette friends with him from day one of U.A., but she was much more… endowed than the punk. In the end, her insecurities got the better of her, and Kyoka didn’t act on her feelings.
So the years passed and Kyoka focused on her career. The confession to Midoriya that pretty much the entire class was expecting from Uraraka never came, and Kyoka couldn’t help but look back on the past and wonder if she should have taken the chance. ‘I’ve got to stop beating myself up over this…’ Kyoka thought to herself as she turned her attention away from the news, missing the sight of the villain fleeing down a familiar route with Midoriya hot on his trail.
The peaceful atmosphere lasted for all of half a minute, until the sudden sound of a scuffle and someone’s panicked scream caused the violette’s neck to whip around, the Hero in her focused on finding the source. Leaning from her booth to get a better look at the front, Kyoka saw the villain she was just watching on the news at the front near the door grappling with a waitress before wrapping an arm around her neck. The man was wearing an electrician’s uniform, likely stolen as a disguise for whatever heist he had been fleeing from. Raoul was focused on the patrons of the café he could see, and his focus was split between looking outside through the window for any police or Hero activity and trying to maintain the sudden hostage situation.
Luckily for all the non-villainous occupants, the thief’s attention was too focused on the panicking civilians and not on the back of the café. If he took the time to properly take stock of the business he entered, he might have noticed the violette creeping up behind him before jabbing her jacks into his ears and letting off a small blast with her Quirk. Often times Heores would need to preform quick takedowns on villains with either highly destructive or incredible mobile Quirks, and Kyoka was quite proud to have developed the technique in her third year of school for situations just like these. Raoul would be waking up with ringing ears and a killer headache, but for now he was a non-issue.
It wasn’t long until Midoriya was on the scene in all his emerald clad glory. He had seen Raoul use his Quirk to warp into the café and was in the middle of informing his agency and nearby police that the situation had escalated with the villain taking hostages when he began to see movement through the window. Midoriya got an excellent view of the musician subduing the villain, and with no other active threats the verdanette felt the tension leave his body. While he would be dreading the paperwork that would come in the aftermath of such a chase, right now he was just glad no one ended up hurt.
Midoriya entered the building, careful to not simply barge in but still making his presence known. Even if it was short lived, the villain did take a hostage and the last thing anyone needed was for his sudden arrival to be misconstrued as another threat. “I would say that everything is alright now, but it looks like help arrived early.” Midoriya made no secret that his biggest inspiration was the Symbol of Peace, frequent use of the former Hero’s catchphrase and attack names made it obvious to anyone who had even seen a piece of All Might merch.
“Thanks for the takedown, Earphone Jack.” Midoriya said while turning to his former classmate. It had been sometime since he had the chance to catch up with the violette, at least outside of the regular class “reunions” that Ashido and Hagakure organized. While he would like to catch up with her, right now they had to be Heroes. “Was anyone injured?”
“The waitress is still a little sore from how hard she was grabbed, but it doesn’t look like anything serious. Should still get it checked out, though.” The verdanette nodded as he listened, already preparing to give his account of events to the first responders. “Besides that, only one in any pain is this guy,” Kyoka dismissively gestured to the villain lying on the floor. “At least when he wakes up. I think I can hear first responders coming in, so let’s get him in cuffs and ready for the cruiser.”
True to her word the police following the chase were not far behind, and only a few seconds passed before reporters and cameras were trying to pack themselves into the side street. Neither Midoriya nor Kyoka held the same attitude towards the media that their old homeroom teacher Eraser Head did, but it wasn’t hard to see why the underground Hero held the “vultures” in such disdain. At the very least they seemed to be holding back for now, simply getting footage as the Raoul was taken away by the police and the two Heroes gave their statements, but as soon as it looked like they were free the media crowd took their chance to pounce.
“Deku, any comments on how police and Heros have failed to capture Raoul untill now?”
“Were you brought in to deal with this villain personally?”
“Are you single? Our readers deserve to know!”
‘Alright, just going to ignore that last one.’ Midoriya thought to himself as he raised his hands in a placating gesture. While the crowd didn’t stop trying to push past each other to get a better angle, they at least kept quiet to let him speak. “Raoul evaded capture as long as he did by specifically avoiding conflict with Heroes whenever possible, by the time a Hero got an alert he liked to be as far away as possible.” Kyoka watched from a distance as the reporters were almost transfixed on Midoriya. It wasn’t just the status of being number one in the rankings, but the air of confidence the verdanette had slowly grown into during his time at U.A. He didn’t need to say that you would be safe when he arrived on the scene, you simply felt it. “The only reason I came across him mid-patrol was because I had taken an irregular patrol pattern. Even then, I can’t take credit for apprehending him. Earphone Jack was the one who took him down.”
The reporters all focused on her where she stood behind Midoriya, and suddenly she didn’t feel quite so safe anymore.
After a whirlwind of questions directed towards the violette, from how she took down the villain to the status of her upcoming album (that would be released when it was ready, thank you very much), the media swarm finally dispersed, either satisfied with the footage they caught or hitting the streets again to find some other Hero to pester. “Finally, they’re gone.” Kyoka sighed before shooting a glare to Midoriya. “Did you have to sic them on me though?”
“Sorry…” Midoriya said while removing his mouth guard. “I just didn’t want to take the credit for your work.”
“It’s fine, dude. Just give a girl some warning before you throw her to the wolves, y’know?” Kyoka gave Midoriya a small smirk as she spoke. “Usually, my days off are for avoiding ending up on the evening news.”
A nervous energy that Kyoka hadn’t seen in the verdanette for quite some time made a resurgence. “Oh no, did I ruin your day off? I’m sorry, I should’ve taken care of that guy sooner, but I let him slip away during the chase. Do you…”
‘Geeze, why is he getting so nervous?’ She was about to leave the café anyway, and all in all the event from the villain entering the building to the present was less than half an hour. If anything, Kyoka had wasted more of her day in bed scrolling on her phone after waking up. “It’s not a big deal, dude. You know I’m just messing with you, right?”
“I know, I know, it’s just… I don’t want to be like those people who use Heroism for the fame, even accidentally. I forgot that you probably wouldn’t want to be bothered by the press during your day off.”
“It was like, thirty minutes. If that.” As the violette spoke, a jack playfully poked Midoriya in the arm. “Besides, you shouldn’t feel bad about it at all. I’m pretty sure most pros would say they were ‘assisted’ with the capture, just so they don’t risk losing face.”
“I…” Midoriya trailed off before a small, subdued smile, not like the wide grins he would give on the field. “Yeah, you’re right. I would say sorry for worrying about it so much, but well…” The two chuckles together, both not willing to dwell on why the other in joy was so wonderful to listen to.
As the moment passed and the conversation seemed like it was ending Kyoka paused, stuck in thought for a brief moment. Kyoka didn’t know what made her speak out, but as soon as she did it was like she couldn’t stop herself from following through. “I know you’ve got to get back to your patrol, but if we can both get the same day off later, I would like to catch up sometime. Y-y’know, just the two of us. Consider it making up for today.” Kyoka did her best to stay calm throughout, even managing to pull a smirk with the last sentence.
Midoriya blinked in surprise for a moment before his face lit up in excitement. “Y-yeah! That sounds great. I guess we can see what time works later then.”
With plans for what was only a day hanging out with a friend and totally not a date in motion, Midoriya went back to his patrol, leaving Kyoka alone with her thoughts as she made the short trek back to her home. Most of her brain still screamed that their little get together didn’t mean anything, and there was no way she would be anything more than a friend to Midoriya, but a small part still held out hope that maybe things would work out for her.
‘That went… better than I expected.’
Present
‘Goddamn it, I jinxed myself then, didn’t I?’ The universe must have been waiting for a chance to screw her over, because how else was Kyoka supposed to come to terms with the fact that she got kidnaped by a kid in middle school. And not just any kid, but Eri, the girl Midoriya helped save from the yakuza during his first year. About a year after the verdanette had graduated, Eri had gained control over her Quirk to not be a risk to others with the help of Aizawa’s training. While she could’ve remained a ward at U.A., and she still often visits the faculty with Midoriya, Eri wanted to stay with her Hero. Kyoka could recall during one of their class get-togethers how distraught Midoriya seemed, wanting to take the girl in but worrying that with his profession he wouldn’t be able to properly care for her. In the end it was Bakugou who wound up helping him out, at least as far as telling someone to “stop being a pussy and just adopt the brat already” could be considered helping.
It had been sometime since Kyoka had last seen Eri in person, close to six months, and this was not how the Hero thought their next meeting would go. Although to be fair, who expected to be interrogated by a child about your upcoming not-a-date. Speaking of… “W-what are you talking about? Midoriya and I are just planning to meet up later. And is all this really necessary?” Kyoka capped of her point by trying to move her arms free of the rope.
“It is necessary when you won’t tell us the truth.” A feminine voice spoke out from the darkness behind Eri, although it was distorted with some form of voice changer. “A quick check of your messages showed something interesting. Most people wouldn’t go through the effort of asking a friend for help with your outfit when you’re just hanging out. You two haven’t even set a day to meet with Deku-kun and you still asked Yaomomo for advice on how to dress.”
‘Wait, Deku-kun? Yaomomo?’ While the way the stranger spoke Midoriya’s Hero name like it was somekind of nickname was odd, even more so was that she used a nickname for Yaoyorozu Momo that was pretty much only used by her former classmates. Whoever this was, it was someone very close with both Midoriya and Yaoyorozu, and there was only one girl she knew that used both nicknames. “Uraraka?”
Eri froze in place as silence filled the room for several seconds. “No…” the distorted voice responded, but now that Kyoka was paying attention, it was easy to tell that the cadence matched that of the gravity girl. The violette rolled her eyes, her frustration with whatever this situation was supposed to be reaching a boiling point. “Will someone just untie me and tell me what the hell is going on!?” While it was generally bad form to swear in front of a child, Kyoka didn’t think it counted if the child was implicit in your abduction.
“Fine…” Eri said with an exasperated sigh, like a kid asked to clean their room. With her enhanced hearing, Kyoka could pick up some grumbles from the horned girl about all the wasted effort. Shortly after Eri moved behind her, Kyoka had to close her eyes as several overhead lights flipped on showing the concrete room was in fact a storage room, with several items such as preserved food, water and first aid kits resided towards the back wall. Four people were standing by the shelves of supplies, four people the punk knew well. Uraraka, Asui, Iida, and Todoroki were all present and holding onto an odd-looking device, which if Kyoka had to guess were the voice changers.
Soon, Kyoka felt the ropes slacken and the Hero began to stretch her limbs to work out the soreness she felt. As she was doing so, Kyoka decided she deserved an explanation. “Alright, all of you. Explain now.” She demanded with narrowing eyes.
“I would just like to say that the ‘mafia style kidnapping’ was Eri’s idea.” Uraraka was the first to speak, and Kyoka didn’t know if she was telling the truth or if she was throwing the child under the bus. From the cheerful way Eri lit up at the statement, it seemed to be the truth. “Uhuh! I saw this movie about a man who was hunting the guy who killed his dog, but the guys dad owns the mob so then he-”
“I get it, just…” Kyoka interrupted the girl before pinching the bridge of her nose. “Why did you decide to do this? And how as well. I can’t let myself get jumped like this again.”
“My toxins are getting pretty potent, Kero. I waited until just before your patrol ended to cover your doorknob in a toxin that knocked you out.” Well, nothing she could do about that than start wiping down everything she touches, and death was sounding preferable to that. Asui continued, “Do you remember all the attention we got in our last year of school, Kero?” Asui’s monotone voice answered her.
“Yeah, pretty much the whole business course tried to cozy up to the class because we were involved in the war. That all but practically guaranteed we were good investments.” At least Kyoka met one business course student who was honest about her intentions, although she could have done without the merchandise pitch. Who even needed an Earphone Jack branded rice cooker?
Todoroki picked up after Kyoka. “Out of everyone, Midoriya likely had it the worst. And it wasn’t just grifters looking for an easy profit with merchandise deals.” The violette raised an eyebrow out of curiosity while Todoroki continued. “Out of nowhere, a girl from gen ed started hanging around him. It was pretty obvious she was flirting with him, but Midoriya… I may not have much experience with relationships but somehow, I noticed what she was doing and yet he didn’t.”
“And this resulted in you five abducting me… why?” Kyoka’s deadpan voice was quickly answered by Iida.
“At first, we were happy for Midoriya and simply waiting for him to realize that she was interested in him. But one day, Uraraka and I found her gossiping with a friend and recommended trying to, well, ‘get with’ someone from the Hero course and live off their income like she was attempting to do.” While she was appalled at the unnamed girl’s audacity, Kyoka wasn’t surprised in the slightest. “The four of us decided that it would be best to… handle the situation ourselves without involving Midoriya.”
“W-what did you do?” Kyoka asked with a slight trace of fear. She was confident that with Iida present he kept them from doing anything illegal, but the implication in his sentence was sinister, nonetheless.
“We just reminded her about his blood obsessed stalker who was willing to kill anyone in between her and Deku-kun.” Uraraka’s voice was way too cheery for what she had just said, and there was one problem with their plan anyways.
“Isn’t Toga going through some rehabilitation program?” After some rather harrowing details about her parents forcefully suppressing her Quirk and it’s urges arose, the shapeshifter was given a chance at reform. She would still have a sentence to serve, shit parents or not she was still a core member of the LoV turned Paranormal Liberation Front, but it was better than life in prison.
“She didn’t need to know that.” The brunette smiled back, and Kyoka felt a shutter go down her spine. “We thought that would have been the end of it, but it turned out that a lot of people would get the same idea. So, we decided to… what was it you said, Iida?”
“Verify the authenticity of their inventions.” Came a very Iida response.
“Yeah, that!” Uraraka beamed.
“Hold on,” Kyoka interrupted the two. “If you’re all so worried about him being taken by some gold digger, why haven’t you asked him out already?” The punk asked, her question for the brunette rather than any of the others. “You used to say you would do it when both your careers stabilized, but it’s well past that point.”
“Oh, Deku-kun and I tried dating in our second year, eventually we both realized that we were better off friends.”
‘Wait what? The whole reason I backed off him was because everyone knew they would get together and…’ Kyoka both felt like celebrating and kicking herself. Uraraka continued. Breaking the violette from her thoughts.
“We planned to keep it from the rest of the class because you know how Ashido would react.” Kyoka would at least concede to that and in her case, she might have done so as well. Ashido wass something else when it came to class gossip, romance above all. “Anyways, Eri joined our little club when we bumped into her while staking out Mt. Lady a year ago.”
“What was she doing?” Kyoka asked with a tilt of her head.
Eri was the one to answer. “Mt. Lady kept getting handsy with papa and he said it was making him uncomfortable, but he didn’t want to make a scene. So I was going to put a bug down the back of her shirt!”
Kyoka remained silent for a moment, taking in the absurdity of what she had just been exposed to before speaking. “So, within a year Eri has gone from kiddie pranks to literally planning kidnappings, and you four want to say you had nothing to do with how she turned out?”
“That’s because you haven’t heard what Eri’s backup plan for Mt. Lady was.” Todoroki’s voice sounded amused. The heterochromatic boy was pretty dry at any given moment, which caused Kyoka to wonder just what he found so amusing. The violette looked towards Eri with a raised brow. “It was arson!”
Kyoka quickly stood up. “Alright, I think I’m done here. Next time you want to meet, please just text me instead of… this.” Kyoka didn’t even bother to gesture around her. As soon as she turned around to leave, the lone exit was frozen over by Todoroki. “I’m sorry, but we still need to talk with you.” He said as ice spread over the door.
The violette spun around. “About what, this ‘date’ you’re so convinced is real? We’re just meeting up to hang out.”
Asui rolled her eyes. “It was pretty obvious you were always checking him out in class, Kero.” Kyoka sputtered and blushed as the frog girl continued. “It’s actually what made Ochako decide to stop waiting and ask Izuku out.”
“Ocha may have messed up my moment,” “Hey!” “But I’m not letting you out of here until you either back off of papa or prove that you aren’t a… what was the first girl called again?” Eri broke character and turned to Iida. “Gold digger.” He quickly supplied. “Yeah, that! You probably waited until papa became the number one Hero.” Kyoka felt a critical glare from the horned girl dig into her.
“I thought Uraraka was going to ask him out, and even if I did, there’s no way he would’ve gone for me with people like Uraraka and Momo arround!” Kyoka snapped back. “I don’t even know why I asked him to hang out sometime when nothing is going to come of it.”
“You really believe that?” Uraraka asked, sounding surprised. Kyoka never mentioned the moments of insecurity she held for her friends for fear of coming off as jealous of spiteful. “Eri found out you two planned to meet up because he was muttering while trying to figure out if this was a date or if he was jumping the gun.”
“R-really?” Kyoka responded, her voice hopeful. “He want’s to…” This changed things for the violette, and if this whole thing was necessary for her to hear what she just did, the Kyoka felt it was worth it.
As Kyoka trailed off into silence, Iida appeared to be just as tired being in this situation as she was. “I would like to apologize, Jiro. We tried to get Eri to give you the benefit of the doubt, but she refused and wanted to pull some elaborate interrogation. We honestly feared she might go rouge if we didn’t do this.” The man is completely serious, and even a little concerned about the possibility happening. “But you’re our friend, and we don’t think you would be anything like that. I’m sure Eri will get over this soon.” Iida says while adjusting his glasses. As soon as he finishes, a faint smirk is seen on his lips. “After all, she still watches a recording of our class’s first culture festival performance on HeroTube. Midoriya says it’s like how he was with All Might’s debut video.”
“Iida you traitor!” While the girl harmless punches at the bluenettes leg while pouting, Todokori began to melt the doorway. Whatever the girl had attempted to pull had fallen apart at the seams, and he no longer saw any point in dragging things out further.
‘I’m never going to just used to that kid’s shit, am I?’ Kyoka thought to herself. Hopefully this protective streak of Eri’s was a one-time thing. As she watched Todoroki’s flames lick at the ice, her thoughts went back to how Midoriya was pretty worked up over the idea that he might be going on a date with her. I need to let Yaomomo know to pick out something a little less casual…’ Kyoka took out her phone and typing a message for the heiress.
Elsewhere
The sound of a phone buzzing awoke Midoriya, but the sound was nothing at all like the one he used for his alarm. And it felt like he had fallen asleep in his Hero costume while sitting down. And his arms were tied behind him, which really didn’t feel comfortable. How did he even manage to fall asleep like this?
…
Midoriya’s eyes opened in shock, quickly scanning around the room. Wherever he was, the room looked like some sort of personal office, well-furnished and likely every item inside was very expensive. Midoriya thought it looked like the way his old classmate Yaoyorozu would have her agency office look like, a feeling that was only the stronger with the way Yaoyorozu seemed to fit the scene perfectly seated at a large desk.
‘Today is just not my day, huh?’
Yaoyorozu was checking her phone when she noticed that Midoriya had woken up. “Ah, Midoriya. You’re awake.” While her tone was anything but positive, the fact Midoriya found out his hands were not merely tied together but restrained with Quirk suppressant cuffs still left him terrified of just what Yaoyorozu wanted. “You see, I learned something great happened yesterday, and I feel we should have a talk about what your plans about my best friend are going forward.”
