Work Text:
Getting a job while being a high school drop out on top of having a criminal record wasn't easy.
Unless you sisters rich wife owns a small music shop in town. A surprisingly cozy music shop actually. The perfect place for a girl like Jinx.
Really the only bad part of it was having to interact with customers more than she had to. Some things were tolerable, showing someone where things were and giving recommendations.
But anything more sucked. Some people were total jerks, some wanted to have full blown conversations, some would be obnoxious, and some couldn't tell the difference between a CD and a record.
Despite the bad parts, she liked it. She was grateful, but she wouldn't say it, especially not to Caitlyn.
Of course she didn't make much, Caitlyn knew she didn't need an average wage since she was housed and fed with her and Vi. Also because Caitlyn knew if Jinx got enough money, she'd find a way to get back into drugs. Jinx didn't mind the concern, because Caitlyn was probably right, and Jinx didn't really want to get back into drugs.

Fridays were the worst. Most people would think Mondays were, but high school students didn't have time most afternoons. But Fridays, when they didn't have homework or clubs, there would be a wave of them. It wasn't like there was many of them, but it was still annoying. She'd get questions about where she went to school, or they'd just find ways to pick on her. She just ignored them.
She did start to keep track of who was who, what they bought, what they said, who they hung out with. If they seemed cool, she'd give them a coupon or something, and sometimes candy, she kept a dish of suckers under the counter.
This Friday however, was especially bad.
A group that particularly pissed her off was back with an extra this time. She only knew one of their actual names, the others she had nicknames for. Evelynn. She seemed like the leader of the little group. Probably a senior if she was even in high school. Then there was her usual group, Ponytail, Furry, and wait, she did know Akali, she wasn't as bad as the rest.
The new girl was noticeably short, maybe shorter than Akali. She had pink hair, purplish eyes, and wore her uniform like she actually liked school. In other words, she did not fit in with Evelynn's group. It was kind of funny.
Of course they were looking at pop music, as they always did. They spoke obnoxiously loud, as they always did. And they made comments about Jinx being weird just loud enough for her to hear, as always. She wasn't really bothered by it, no reason to be.
The new girl was thankfully not so loud, by the looks of it she only really spoke to Akali. Hopefully she'd be smart and get away from Evelynn before she got trapped with them. But whatever happened happened.
They took a little longer than usually picking out what to get, then trying to get the new girl to get something.
Then the worst part, ringing them up. Evelynn, Ponytail, and Furry lined up at the register. Of course it was the worst music they could have possibly picked, some pop was good, but what they picked? Wasn't.
"Hello Jinx" Evelynn greeted sliding a record on to the counter along with a twenty dollar bill. Jinx ignored her and scanned the bar.
"13.99, y'want change?"
"Yes, I'd prefer my money doesn't go to drugs"
Evelynn didn't actually know about her history. She just assumed since Jinx apparently look like a 'bum' and 'a tweaker'. A lot of assholes liked to pick on the way she dressed, some old dude even called her a witch. Hoodies and beanies were apparently something only druggies would wear according to Evelynn, but Jinx didn't really care. She didn't know why Evelynn did.
"Have a nice day" Jinx said sliding her the change and record. She knew Evelynn didn't want a receipt.
Evelynn gave her an annoyed glare before exiting.
The rest of the group wasn't bad, just comments like 'do you even sleep?' Or 'do you ever go outside'. Akali didn't say anything rude, she even left a tip. The pink haired girl took a little longer while the rest of the group waited outside. What did catch her attention was that the girl wasn't in the pop section anymore. She was in the rock section. Either she was really out of place with those other girls, or not shopping for herself. Cool, but not her business.
When the girl came up she looked almost nervous, she must be a weirdo or something. And then the best part, seeing what she got.
"Cheap Trick?" Jinx said in surprise, regrettably. She didn't like talking to customers, especially people who hung around Evelynn.
"Y-yeah" she stuttered shuffling through her wallet and pulling out a twenty.
"Cool" Jinx smiled a bit scanning the record
"10.99, y'want change?"
The girl hesitated. Evelynn and her group probably told her some crap about Jinx before they came.
"Uh..yeah"
Figures
"Here ya go." Jinx said holding out her fist. Lux lay her hand flat as Jinx dropped it into her hand.
"Y'want a receipt?"
"No"
"M'Kay, have a nice day" She said sliding the record back to her.
"You too" the girl smiled before exiting and joining her friends again.
She seemed nice, probably would coupon worthy if she hadn't hung around those idiots.

Lux didn't know why exactly Akali hung out with Evelynn and her friends. They seemed a tad bit mean, but Akali assured her they were really nice once you got to know them. Ahri wasn't so bad, Kai'sa was kind of indifferent to Lux so far, and Evelynn...she was..interesting. Evelynn didn't exactly like her, but she wanted her to be more like her, kind of.
Akali was one of her closest friends, and she trusted her. So she'd stick around, maybe her and Evelynn could eventually get along.
Almost as soon as she got out of the record store she was asked why she got rock, and to avoid criticism she said it was for her brother.
It wasn't.
She actually liked Cheap Trick, but if Evelynn knew that there would probably be some mean joke that ended up defining her to them. She didn't even like most pop, though she did like Britney Spears.
She did want to go back to that music store, it was comfortable and the girl who worked there was a bit scary but didn't seem to be as bad as the group made her out to be. She seemed nice for a stranger. But they'd all known her longer, and apparently she was a drug addict who never slept. She did kind of look like a vampire, but Lux didn't get a good look, Evelynn said she was aggressive sometimes and Lux didn't want to provoke her in anyway.
***
Despite having a lot of studying to do for upcoming AP exams, Lux wanted to go back to the music shop.
It had only been two days, but she had a whole shelf she wanted to fill with records and CDs. She preferred them to just playing music off of her phone, it was nice to be able to watch the record spin, and her player was fun to work. Even if it was more work and money, she liked it, and she wanted to have a collection.
She didn't know what the hours were, so she decided to go around the time she had before, shortly past four.
The bells rang as she walked in, immediately noticing it was the same girl from the day before. She had Iron Maiden playing with a stack of records next to a player. She was sitting behind the counter with her legs up and was scrolling through her phone before looking up at Lux.
"If y'need help with anything let me know" She said going back to her phone.
Lux nodded and started to look around. She hadn't had much time to look around before since she didn't want to make Akali and her friends wait.
It really was a cool shop. There was posters, good lighting, and the shelves had little drawings all over them. Different sections had different drawings, which made looking through any section entertaining. She wondered if that girl did them or if was someone else.
She once again went to the rock section. She didn't really know who to pick this time. She'd only brought enough money for one, so she'd have to pick carefully. There was a few things she wanted but she also wanted to listen to something new.
"What'cha gettin this time?"
She turned to see the girl leaning against the shelf watching her.
She didn't know if she should be scared or take this as friendly.
But her first thought was that she was very tall up close. Taller than Kai'sa.
"Uhm...I don't know. Do you have any recommendations?" She asked trying to be friendly, just in case she was going to get beat up or something.
The girl smiled
"Y'know T-Rex?"
"I've heard of them but I haven't listened to any of their stuff yet"
"Oh you need to. It's awesome, and it's got a sick name" She said reaching in front of Lux and grabbing an album from the shelf, passing it to her.
Lux scanned it. The list of songs on the back wasn't too long, but it did look good, and the cover was cool.
"You can put it on my record player if you wanna listen without buying it"
"I would but I have a lot of studying to do for AP exams, don't you?"
"Nope"
She'd ask if she was old, dumb, or a dropout, but she didn't want to seem rude.
"Do you go to school near by?"
"I don't. Y'gettin the record or not pinkie I need to sweep before the boss lady gets back"
"Oh uh, yeah." Lux said quickly noticing her change in mood. Maybe she had an issue with schools or something. Weird.
"Cool, y'gettin anything else?"
"I only brought enough money for one"
"M'Kay, cmon"
Lux nervously followed her to the counter. The girl took the album from her hand and scanned it.
"10.99, y'want change?"
Evelynn had said not to give her any extra money because she'd just use it for drugs.
"Yeah"
She dropped the change into her hand and slid her the album before glancing out the window and grimacing.
"Shit" she muttered shuffling behind the counter for something. Lux look out the window to see a woman pulling up in a pretty nice car.
"Who's that?" Lux asked
"My sister in law" She said throwing a name tag on
"And she owns this place"
Lux hummed and checked her name tag. Jinx. That was a weird name.
"Your name is Jinx?"
"yeah. That bitch Evelynn not tell you?"
"She didn't. I like it, it's a cool name"
"Uh..thanks. You gotta name?" Jinx asked hesitantly
"Lux" she smiled
"Hm, like the light. Awesome"
Before either of them could say anything else the door swung open and a woman even taller than Jinx walked in. Lux knew she was short but she was meeting a lot of people taller than an average person.
"Uhm, I'll get going, see you" Lux waved
"See ya"

"Who was that?" Caitlyn asked watching Lux leave
"A customer"
"You hate talking to customers"
"Eh, she's cool"
"Hm. Did you give her a coupon?"
"No, probably will if she comes back"
"Good. You're making friends"
"Not really but whatever" Jinx said standing up and grabbing the broom
"How's business?" Caitlyn asked watching Jinx start to sweep, like she should've been doing an hour ago.
"Good, Buncha regulars, a few new people. That girl I was talking to included"
"Are those girls still being arseholes?"
Context, Caitlyn had come in to the store a few months earlier while Evelynn's group was there. It ended with them getting kicked out, not permanently of course.
"No. They're loud, but they don't cause trouble."
"Good. Finish sweeping and we can go. Vi's getting Pizza."
"M'kay"
***
Caitlyn didn't ask much more about work. Jinx appreciated it. It's not like there was much to talk about.
She was enjoying work a tiny bit more. Lux was cool, she seemed a bit weird, a little skittish, but nice. Jinx did hope she'd come back, and maybe even be a regular. It wasn't so hard to make conversation with her, and she wasn't a bitch like Evelynn and her group.
Jinx hadn't done much Monday, or Tuesday even though it was her day off. All of her friends, aka Ekko and Zeri, were doing some AP test that she was pretty sure Lux said something about.
Wednesday she went back into work which always sucked. Sometimes that Sara lady would come Wednesday to try and get a date with Vi knowing damn well she was married. Sara must've stalked Vi to know she came in Wednesdays to help out. It pissed her off.
At least with Vi in on Wednesday she had someone to talk to rather than scroll on her phone in silence, except for the music she'd blast.
***
Jinx was in the back shuffling through the new things that had arrived. Lots of pop since it sold so well, and some stuff she actually liked. She was about to listen to one but of course she just couldn't have that peace.
"Jinx, customer!" Vi yelled poking her head in
"Okay" Jinx grumbled knowing it was useless to argue that Vi could just do it herself. She didn't even know why she came in if she wasn't going to help.
Fortunately, of all the customers it could be, it was that Lux girl. She didn't notice Jinx come out of the back, so Jinx decided to follow her until she noticed. A little creepy sure, but it was just a customer. A cool customer.
So, she silently followed Lux into the rock section, careful not to be seen. But when she turned to look at the shelf she saw her and nearly jumped out of her skin.
"Geez! When'd you get there?!"
"A second ago. Hi" Jinx said casually
"...hi. Are you allowed to scare customers?"
Jinx shrugged "Not really. Whatcha gettin this time?"
Lux stared at her for a second before looking back to the shelf.
"Maybe Billy Idol? I brought enough for two though, any recommendations?"
Billy Idol was basic, but still good. No surprise Lux liked his stuff.
"Hm. A few. Do you have a Clash record yet?"
"I don't, but I'd like to" she said pulling it off the shelf along with a Billy Idol album.
"Sweet, cmon. I've got somethin for you"
Lux gave her a confused look and followed her to the counter, where Jinx had her coupons Caitlyn allowed her to give out a limited number of.
But Jinx felt like doing a little more than a coupon.
She glanced up at Lux, who was still giving her that confused look that was actually a little cute. Not in a creepy way of course.
And then she quickly wrote her phone number in the coupon, hoping Lux wouldn't use it while Vi was working the counter.
Hopefully it wasn't super weird since she'd only spoken to Lux like three times.
Jinx scanned the records and put them in a bag this time, so that Lux didn't immediately see her number on the coupon. That would be awkward.
"22 even. And you get a 75% coupon thing" she said quickly showing Lux the coupon, the side she hadn't written her number on.
"Oh cool. Why do I get a coupon?" Lux asked giving Jinx a twenty and two single bills.
"Caitlyn, the owner, said I can give them to customers I like"
Lux's eyes winded a little. She silently stared at jinx for a few seconds before Vi busted out of the back.
"Jinx come see what's in this box!" She shouted before noticing Lux
"After that" she smirked shutting the door.
Jinx turned back to Lux
"That's my sister, don't come on Tuesdays that's when she works."
"O-oh okay. Does your brother work here too?"
"Huh? I don't have a brother"
"Oh. So your..sister is married to the owner?"
"Yeah. My sisters only here twice a week cause she's got another job to do too."
"So it's just you working here usually?"
"Yep, usually kinda boring but it's cool sometimes "
Before anything else could be said, the door to the back room swung open again
"Jinx stop chit chatting!" Vi shouted
Jinx restrained herself from flipping Vi off. She was actually enjoying chatting with a customer for once.
"Alright I gotta go see what she yellin about. See ya?"
"Yeah see you"
____________________________________
Lux was caught off guard by Jinx saying she liked her, until she realized she didn't mean it in that way. Why did her brain even go to that? Jinx was clearly being friendly. Maybe Lux was a weirdo and she didn't know it.
When she got to her room after avoiding her family so she didn't have to explain her music tastes to them again, she immediately pulled the albums from the bag. She loved the clash, especially Rock the Casbah, and was happy Jinx had brought it up. She hadn't heard much Billy Idol but she did know a few of his songs that she enjoyed.
But then she saw the coupon, and when she flipped it to see when it expired, she saw a phone number sloppily scribbled onto it.
She stared at it for a minute.
And then she felt warmth rise to her cheeks.
Huh?!
Was it friendly?? Was it Jinx asking her out something?? What did it mean?? And why was she considering texting her?? They'd only seen each other like three times! Maybe it was friendly, Evelynn said she was crazy but she wasn't that crazy, nor was she a creep!
she needed help.
But who did she text? Definitely not Garen or Eve. Maybe Akali? Yeah she worked, she knew Jinx and Lux trusted her.
Perfect. Probably.
It's the best she could do.
Akali would know what to do, or at least be able to help a little.
Lux:
Akali I need help
Now
Akali:
What did you do?
Lux:
Someone gave me their number I don't know what to do
Akali:
Really? Who?
Lux:
You know the girl from the record store?
Akali:
Wait what? The one with red hair?
Lux:
Yes! What do I do??
Akali:
Ask why she gave you her number
Lux:
So I should text her???
Akali:
Yes, keep in mind she's probably some sort of creep. She's a druggie that's how they are
Jinx didn't seem like she was on drugs, but maybe she just had a tolerance or something. Either way she was cool, and she really wanted to figure out why she'd given her number.
Lux typed Jinx's number in, made her a contact, and then had to decide what to say.
Lux:
Hi
The typing bubble popped up, and Lux's suddenly felt much more nervous.
Jinx:
Who this
Lux:
Lux, you're Jinx right?
Jinx:
Oh hi pinkie. I didn't think you'd actually text lol
Lux quickly switched back to her chat with Akali to plan her next move
Lux:
SHE RESPONDED WHAT NOW
Akali:
Chill did she say something creepy
Lux:
No she just said hi and that she didn't think I'd actually text her
Akali;
Okay so ask her why she gave you her number
Lux switched again nervously typing out her words. She didn't know Jinx, anything could set her off, and she would be down for friends assuming Jinx didn't give her her number in an asking out way.
Lux:
Why'd you give me your number?
Jinx:
Cuz ur cool and fun 2 talk 2
Lux fell back into her bed in frustration. What did that even mean??
Lux:
She said I'm fun to talk to
WHAT DOES THAT MEAN
Akali:
She probably just wants to be friends she seems like the straightforward type
Lux:
Okay good that kinda scared me
Should I keep texting her
She's kind of cool
Akali:
If you do be careful
Drugs r bad
Lux ignored her.
Jinx was cool. And Lux really wanted to text her back despite still being nervous for some reason.
Jinx:
What do u think I gave it 2 u 4????
Lux:
To be friends
Jinx:
Uh huh
Did u listen to that Billy album yet
Lux:
I just got home but I will
Jinx:
Okay cool
What's ur favourite colour
Lux:
That's random
Jinx:
Well I barley know you so I gotta get to know you
Mine is pink, or blue, I can't really decide
Lux:
I like red
Jinx:
Like my hair! All the more reason to be friends!
Lux:
Your hair is really cool
Is it dyed?
Jinx:
Nope!
Ur hair is awesome though it looks soft
Lux stared at her phone
Jinx:
Wait that was creepy
Sorry
Lux:
No it's fine
Thanks :)
It wasn't fucking fine. Not in the she was uncomfortable with it type of way. In the it made her heart beat pick up a little bit too much to be normal.
Gods she was stupid.
She didn't even like girls.
***
School Friday wasn't so bad. It was a pretty calm day since AP exams had just finished, which she was already worrying over.
Akali again invited her to come to the shop with Evelynn and the others. She hadn't been since Wednesday, but she had texted Jinx a good bit, maybe a little bit a lot. Jinx was funny, and actually cool. Though she wouldn't tell anyone, she really enjoyed being friends (?) with Jinx.
Jinx wasn't even crazy.
Well she was but not like on drugs crazy
More listens to holiday music in May and is probably some sort of not able minded. She also didn't sleep much, hence the look that she was high.
As soon as the group neared the store Evelynn had started going off about some new pop song. Lux would hopefully have a chance to actually get something without having to deal with the group questioning her music tastes.
She also had to avoid them knowing she was friendly with Jinx. That would be asking to get in Eve's bad side. Which usually resulted in no friends because of rumours, Evelynn really knew how to bring people to the bottom of the social pyramid.
The bells above the shops door chimed as Evelynn pushed it open, not even sparing a glance at Jinx who had look up from her phone. Lux smiled at her as a silent greeting, getting a small one in return. Jinx then tapped her phone, which confused Lux for a few seconds before realizing she meant to text her.
Lux nodded before following the group before following the group into the pop section.
As everyone chatted over songs that weren't even good, Lux got on her phone opening Jinx's contact.
Lux:
Hi :>>
Jinx:
Hi
Do u need saving
Lux:
As much as I'd like to be saved I can't
You know Eve
Jinx:
Want me to get stuff 4 u
Lux:
Please do
You can pick
I have enough for 2
Jinx:
Got it
Thank you for the honours of picking
I wont fail u
Lux smiled at her phone and looked back at the counter where Jinx was grinning at her, before she got up and disappeared into the shelves.
"Lux" Akali whispered nudging her
"Stop flirting eve'll hang you"
"I was just being friendly" Lux said flatly
"Sure you were" Akali smirked before Lux elbowed her playfully.
"We're not even real friends"
"Of course not" Akali said sarcastically starting to talk to Evelynn before Lux could say anything.
In a matter of two minutes Lux felt her phone buzz again.
Jinx:
Done
I got u good stuf
Lux made sure the group was distracted before sneaking away to the counter.
Jinx sat in her chair with the records, smiling like she got her a birthday present or something.
"Hi" Lux smiled making sure to speak quietly.
"Hi," Jinx grinned setting the records in front of her
"I got you Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, aaaand" she held up a third album
"Dio! I'm payin for it so you have to take it"
"Wait really?" Lux asked, confused
"Mhm. It's metal, so I dunno if you'll like it or not" Jinx said scanning the albums.
"Do all of your friends get free records?"
"Nah, jus you."
Lux could feel the warmth in her cheeks rise. She didn't pay much mind to it.
"Why?"
"Cuz, I think you'll like it, and I don't have anything else to do with my money. And yer cool"
Nothing else to do with the money? Did that mean she didn't do drugs? Even if she didn't buy drugs how did she make enough to not need money?
"That's really nice, thank you" Lux smiled before an idea popped into her head.
And she said it before thinking. Of course.
"Would you want to hangout sometime?"
Jinx stopped what she was doing and stared at Lux, her eye brows raised
"You wanna hang out with me?"
Something about that made Lux's heart beat pick up.
"Y-yeah."
The corners of Jinx's lips pulled up into a tight smile
"I'd totally love to hang with you! I bet I can get us some cheap tickets to a concert! Y'like concerts?!"
Lux nodded grinning not only at the idea of going to a concert but at Jinx's excitement. It was kind of cute.
"Sweet! Text me your schedule and I'll find somethin good! You go to school right?"
Why was that a question?
"Yeah? Don't you?"
"Nope!"
Before Lux could say anything Jinx glanced behind her and her expression dropped. Lux didn't even have to look to know Evelynn and the group were coming.
"20 bucks" Jinx said flatly glaring back at Evelynn.
____________________________________
As much as she hated the days Evelynn came in, it was probably still the best day of her week. Lux actually wanted to hang out with her. Which was totally awesome.
Lux was starting to grow on her. She was super nice, had good taste in music, and was just cool all around. She was even considering telling Vi and Caitlyn she'd made an actual friend, but she wasn't so sure yet.
Lux didn't know that much about her yet. And she'd probably not be so eager to hang out with Jinx if she knew about her past. But might as well enjoy it while it lasts.
As for the concert, it turned out there was a few coming up in the area. The one that really caught her eye was Cheap Trick, which she remembered Lux had liked. Plus, they were one of Jinx's favourites. Definitely top three for rock.
Since she hadn't gone to school for over a year, she didn't really know the schedule. She also didn't know what grade Lux was, but she guessed Lux was around her age. So that would be... Junior year?
Maybe? She'd have to look it up.
She was pretty sure the school year was ending soon, sometime in June. Which would be good because the concert was in the beginning of June.
Jinx:
Cheap Trick is coming June second
R u free then
Lux:
I should be
School is out but I'll have to check with my parents
Jinx:
No beer tho
Got it
Lux:
Do I seem like the type of person to drink?
Jinx:
No :p
Jus making sure
Im not aloud to hang out wif people who are 'intoxicated'
My sister in law will hang me
Lux:
I'm free that day
Your sister in law sounds smart
Jinx:
She's stupid
But a little cool
Don't tell her I said that
Lux:
I don't even know her
Jinx:
You will
She will find a way
Probably watch us with binoculars
Lux:
She sounds nice
Jinx:
Ur crazy

Some Fridays, the ones where Caitlyn and Vi got back early, they'd watch movies. It was one of those days. Originally Jinx hated it but she started to like it. Just like how she had hated Caitlyn for a long time but gave in eventually.
They'd brought back Pizza, with broccoli on three pieces for Jinx. Not even she knew why she liked broccoli on pizza, she didn't like it plain.
It was Jinx's turn to pick a movie, which made it even better. She already knew she'd pick The Empire Strikes Back, since last time she picked they watched A New Hope. She was a bit of a Star Wars nerd.
Unfortunately Jinx had to wait to watch it because Caitlyn wanted to shower after dinner. But it did give her an opportunity to ask Vi if she could go to the concert, which was required because she wasn't aloud to hang around anyone shady, especially somewhere alcohol was present.
When Vi sat on the couch next to her shortly after finishing washing the dishes, Jinx didn't care to wait for Caitlyn since Vi would tell her anyway.
"Y'know the girl with pink hair from work?"
Vi looked up from her phone
"The one you were talking too Wednesday?"
"Yeah her"
"What about her?" Vi said like she was expecting Lux to have been picking on her
"We wanna go uh..see Cheap Trick live, June second."
"Does she drink?"
"No, she's cool. Like nice. If I had to guess she's probably a nerd, like the kind that likes school. And she totally dresses like a grandma"
Vi crossed her arms
"If I can meet her, properly, first then you can go."
Hopefully that wouldn't be awkward
"Okay, I'll see if she can come to the shop Wednesday."
"M'Kay"
Jinx:
My sister wants to make sure u rnt weird
Can u come to the store Wednesday
Lux:
Yeah
Should I make myself presentable
Jinx:
Ur always presentable
U dress like your eighty
Plus she dresses likes bum it doesn't take much to get her approval
Lux:
I do not dress like I'm eighty
Jinx:
U do
But u kinda rock the old lady look
Lux:
Thanks?
Jinx:
Your welcome
Lux:
You're*
Jinx:
A Nerd and old lady

Tuesday, Jinx's day off, was actually going to be put to use for once. Ekko and Zeri had invited her to get curry, which they knew was her favourite food, so how could she decline?
They were her only close friends, the only ones that stuck around after she dropped out. They both knew about the shit she'd done and been through, but still hung out with her. That's what she qualified as a close friend.
She already told Vi she was going, but she didn't really have to since Vi was knew Ekko as long as she had, and had met Zeri enough to trust her.
Maybe at some point Vi would trust Lux like she did them. She liked Lux, and hopefully would find a time to tell her why she didn't go to school.
They got to the curry place, got a booth seat (the best seat), and ordered. Thankfully the place wasn't too expensive. Ekko and Zeri shared about school, which didn't actually sound as bad as they made it out to be. She hated school when she did go but kind of missed it, just the social part, she still fucking hated the idea of schoolwork.
Eventually the topic switched to Jinx. Which is where the conversation really got interesting.
"So, how's work? Anything cool? Like a robbery?" Ekko asked, never having worked anywhere but an automatic shop, aka the last place someone would rob.
"I met this girl, she's pretty cool"
Zeri and Ekko both raised their eyebrows
"Not like that."
"Oh" they said in unison, disappointed.
"She's probably straight anyway" Jinx shrugged
"Bummer"
"What's her name?" Ekko asked
"Lux"
Ekko and Zeri exchanged surprised glances
"Like the Crowngaurd girl?" Zeri asked
"I dunno her last name. She's got the pink hair? Kinda short?"
They both kind of stared at her like she said she was crazy or something
"You think Luxanna Crowngaurd is cool?"
"You know her?"
"She's in a few of my classes. How the hell do you think she's cool??" Ekko asked
"I dunno, she's got good music taste and is kinda funny"
"She hangs out with Evelynn's gang, and is totally a nerd! How did you being friends with her even happen?!"
"She came into the shop and then we kinda started talkin, so I gave her my number"
"You gave her your number?!" Zeri grinned
"Ina friendly way! Then we texted a whole bunch and now we're gonna go to a concert"
Now both of them were grinning at her.
"Sounds like she's pretty special" Ekko smirked
"Mhm, you gonna introduce her to Vi next?" Zeri added
"Vi's meeting her tomorrow so I can go to the concert with her." Jinx said knowing it was useless to argue they were friends. Lux was definitely straight.
"Who are you guys seeing? George Micheal? Maybe have a moment during Careless Whisper?"
"Cheap Trick"
"Damn, she doesn't look like a rock girl" Zeri said sipping from her soda
"Yeah it was seriously surprising, probably why I like her"
"Oh so you do you like her?" Ekko smirked
"Shut up"

Lux didn't know why she was so stressed about meeting Jinx's sister, it's not like it was her parents. Hopefully dressing like 'an old lady' was appropriate enough. She'd only had a glance at her before, pinkish hair, darker than hers , almost red, and didn't seem to dress very..professionally.
After school she'd checked her hair at least three times. It felt stupid, but kind of necessary. Jinx was just a friend anyway.
Once she got to the store, she saw Jinx's sister at the cashier. As soon as she walked in the woman looked up in grinned.
"You Lux?" She asked sliding her phone into her pocket.
"Y-yeah, hi. You must be Jinx's sister?"
"Yep, my names Vi. And I'm gonna interrogate you to make sure you ain't gonna cause problem for Jinx. I'm a cop by the way" she smiled leaning on the counter.
Comforting. She was being interrogated by an actual cop.
"So, y'ready for some questions?" Vi asked
"Yeah, o-of course."
"Good. Do you go to school?"
That wasn't so bad
"Yeah, I'm a Junior at Valor"
"So you're what? 17?"
Lux nodded
"Hm. Same age, good. You a good student?"
"I get straight A's and I've never been in trouble"
Vi raised her eyebrows
"What's a nerd like you doin hanging out with my sister?"
As much as she wanted to say she wasn't a nerd, she refrained.
"She'd nice, and we have similar music tastes."
"Nice? That's new. Did she not call you an old lady yet?"
"..she did. How did you know?"
"She called you an old lady when she told me about you."
"Oh. Was it all bad?"
"Nah. You don't drink right?"
"No"
"No drugs? Or anything delinquenty?"
She was pretty sure delinquenty wasn't a word
"No, my parents are kind of strict anyway. I wouldn't get away with it even if I did."
"Hm. Cool. You pass, for now. You mess up with Jinx and-"
"Vi!"
Lux turned her head to said Jinx stomping out of the back.
"Oh hey Jinx, you can go to the concert" Vi smiled ignoring how pissed Jinx looked
"Did you interrogate her?"
"Only a little"
"You're a scary cop Vi, don't interrogate my friends" Jinx grumbled punching her sister on the arm.
"Was she an asshole?" Jinx asked turning to Lux
"N-No she was just..questioning me"
"Sounds assholey." She said flatly, glaring at her sister.
"Well I'm done being assholey. Go do whatever I'll man the counter" Vi sighed sitting down and pulling her phone back out.
"Does that mean we can go to the cafe?"
"Yeah, jus' bring your phone and be back within an hour got it?"
"Yeah got it, thanks" Jinx said grabbing Lux's wrist and leading her out the door. Lux quickly followed, and as it turns out, a little to quick. Jinx stopped at soon as they were out the door and Lux bumped into her. Not enough to push Jinx over but enough for Lux to stumble, but Jinx caught her. Which brought her to the real issue. When she was caught from falling fast first into the concrete it was in very close proximity to Jinx.
Hence why her face was slowly warming up while she stared at Jinx for a second too long before standing up straight.
"S-sorry"
Jinx dropped her hands from Lux's arms, and after a moment grinned.
"Geez you really are an old lady! You need a walker? A wheel chair maybe?" Jinx laughed while Lux stood there still flustered. Slightly.
"Okay, cmon this cafe is really good. I'm payin" Jinx said walking ahead. Lux followed behind avoiding thinking about the situation. The feeling of Jinx catching her, the way she smelt like fresh cardboard boxes which was actually kind of good, looking into her yellowish eyes-
Oh.
Whoops.
She didn't think about that.
Totally.
"Quit walkin so slow grandma, you're gonna turn a three minute walk into an hour walk"
"Sorry, I was thinking"
Jinx stopped walking and Lux almost bumped into her again
"You don't gotta say sorry stupid. You don't gotta be polite or nothin, just chill pinkie. I don't get offended" Jinx said patting her shoulder before continuing to walk.
"My parents raised me to be polite, it's imbedded"
"Sounds boring. How about you don't thank me for the meal, and don't use table manners? See if it's really imbedded"
"Why would I not thank you?"
"I dunno, friends get each other meals. Shouldn't be like some big gift n crap."
"And why wouldn't I use table manners?"
"Because food isn't enjoyable when you don't eat how you want! Have you ever eaten a crepe with your hands? It's awesome!"
"That's gross"
"See?! You're already being impolite! It's baby steps!"
Lux smiled. She didn't know what it was about Jinx but it just made her want to smile.
"Oh! Look there no line! Damn were lucky. Hurry those old legs you never know a bus of elderly might pull up and stink the place up!"
Jinx paused
"No offence to your kind. You smell pretty good for someone so ancient"
"Thank you?"
Jinx grinned at her before swinging the cafe door open. And then Lux saw someone she didn't expect to see. Although she probably should have.
Seraphine.
"Hi Jinx! And..Lux? Hi! Are you two here together?! That's so unexpected! Are you-"
"Relax Sera"
"Sorry! It's just good to see two people I like! This is great!"
"Mhm, can we get some menus?" Jinx asked sitting down at a booth seat, Lux sitting at the other end confused by the situation.
"Yeah, sure! I'll go grab some clean ones!"
As soon as she disappeared into the back Jinx sighed and slumped onto the table.
"Are you friends with Seraphine?" Lux asked
"Ehh...she a little weird. I'm guessing you know er from school?"
"Yeah, not too well but we're acquainted"
"Huh. I cant stand 'er. She's nice and all but, eh"
"I think she's sweet. She's a bit energetic and loud..and shoves cameras in peoples faces, but she's sweet"
"One of the reasons I'm glad I no longer go to school" Jinx said flatly, Lux was going to ask if Seraphine hadn't burst out of the back with the menus. Lux appreciated she'd gotten clean ones, she had a thing against germs.
"Here you go!" Seraphine smiled giving them both menus before standing up straight
"Can I ask a question?" She asked
"Don't make it weird" Jinx said scanning the menu
"Are you guys..here on a date? Or is it-"
"No!" Lux and Jinx said in unison. Seriously why did everyone thing she was interested in Jinx? She didn't even know her that well!
"Oh okay so you're friends! Can I tell people or is it like a secret like in those shows?"
"Like in those shows blondie, you know Ekko and Zeri have a bad reputation from hangin around me"
"Oh okay! Let me know when you want to order!" Seraphine smiled before walking back to the register area.
Lux didn't know Ekko and Zeri had bad reputations because of Jinx, she just thought they were delinquents.
"Wait you know Ekko and Zeri?" Lux asked realizing
"Uh yeah, duh. They're by best friends, known Ekko since I was tiny, and I met Zeri a while back too."
"Oh cool. I don't know them very well"
"They're totally chill, I'd tell you to talk to them but, they put some ideas in there head bout' us"
Why did everyone think they were into eachother? Lux didn't even like girls!...Probably
As for Jinx, she didn't know. She kind of looked gay but she shouldn't make assumptions like that.
Lux ended up just getting what Jinx got, pancakes. Except she didn't get it doused in syrup. She didn't know how that didn't upset Jinx's stomach.
Things went..smoothly.
It was really nice.
She really felt free talking to Jinx. She was pretty sure she could say anything and Jinx wouldn't have a problem with it.
She did end up thanking Jinx. Over text.
She got called a polite grandma.
But despite how crude Jinx was, she liked her. Not in a gay way...
***
School was pretty easy since it was nearing the end of the year, and all the testing was done with.
The day of the concert was approaching, and with every visit to the store she grew more excited.
She wasn't aloud to very many concerts, but this time she would use Akali as a cover so she could go. Her parents would definitely not approve of her going with Jinx.
The hard part was explaining to Akali why she needed to be covered for. Akali already had her ideas about them, which she still didn't understand why.
Lux:
Don't make this weird
I need you to cover me June second
I'm going to a concert
with Jinx
Akali:
So you are gay
I knew it
I'll cover so you can go on your date
Lux:
It's not a date
Akali:
Riiiiight
You also don't deny being gay
Lux:
Im not
Akali:
So you're going on a not date to a concert
With Jinx
Lux:
Yes
As friends
Akali:
Mhm
How are things with her
Is she a creep
Lux:
Things are good
She's definitely not on drugs
She doesn't even drink
Akali:
Damn
That's unexpected
Lux:
Her sister and sister in law are both cops
I think that's why
They're protective ig
Akali:
Maybe being gay runs in the family
You're in luck
Lux:
Im going to block you
Akali:
NO
I won't make anymore jokes
Lux:
Fine
Lux didn't actually know that she wasn't gay anymore.
Was she still straight if there was..one, small, minuscule exception?
Very, very, minuscule.
She wouldn't even go as far as to call it a small crush.
But.
Jinx was...good looking.
And if she were to...make a move of some sort
She wouldn't be completely opposed.
But she didn't want that.
She just wouldn't be against it.
Not gay.
Just...striaght but wouldn't mind small stuff.
Jinx was a very kind of good looking, funny, and nice-ish person. Who wouldn't be a little bit into her?
The important thing was. She had a cover. Her parents knew Akali, and so did Garen. They weren't the biggest fans but they trusted her enough to go to a concert with.
***
Last day of school. Last day of Junior year.
It was a lot of her friends last day, the graduating seniors. Including Evelynn, she couldn't say she was going to miss her to much. As for Akali, she was a bit more upset that she couldn't go to school with Evelynn anymore. Lux still didn't get why she liked her so much.
Of course every class was more of a fun social event than anything close to a class. Except for her science class, Viktor made it educational, and kind of fun.
What she was really looking forward to was after school. Most people she knew were going to the pier, as was she. She was of course, going with Evelynn's group. She was pretty sure Evelynn liked her a little bit more now, but treated her like a complete child, but she did that to most people.
Evelynn's car was able to fit the group of them. Thankfully they'd gotten out of the schools parking lot quickly because there was a lot of people trying to get the the pier first for good parking. Evelynn may or may not have speeded a little..a lot to get there quick.
The pier had all sorts of stuff. Rides, restaurants, escape rooms, mazes, stores. Lux hadn't been in a while so there was a lot she wanted to do, especially the mirror maze.
Together they'd made a plan of what they'd do. The pier closed at eight, which left them a little less than four hours. They'd decided first they'd do an escape room, which would eat up an hour, assuming they did it in the given time. Second, they'd do the mirror maze, which couldn't take longer than a half hour. Third, rides for about an hour. Then just shop around.
***
As it turns out, they weren't very good at escape rooms. Akali broke something, Kai'sa and Evelynn chatted while doing a half assed job, which left Lux and Ahri doing most of the work. It didn't pay off, they still failed. Despite the failure it was still fun. It definitely got her somewhat closer to Ahri, which was nice.
Since it took the full time they didn't have much to get to the mirror maze, which was actually hard to find on its own.
There wasn't any line, which made things easier. After the group individually bought their tickets, there was a bit of a wait since there was a small group before them.
A bit of a wait turned into fifteen minutes.
And Evelynn wasn't having it.
"Excuse me, are they done yet? Isn't this supposed to be on the quick side?"
The ticket vendor shrugged and checked his monitor, unfazed by the rudeness.
"Uhh, there's one of 'em still in there. I can let you in, if your okay with some random kid in there too"
Evelynn glanced back at the group, everyone either shrugged or said they didn't care.
"We'll go in."
"Kay'" he said hitting a buzzer that unlocked the door in.
"Finally" Evelynn sighed opening the door, revealing a dark passage. They followed her in single file, Lux being the last in.
"Woah that trippy" Akali said as they walked into the maze, mirrors in every direction with green dot lights moving across them. It was impossible to tell which wasn't a mirror. She almost instantly walked face first into a mirror, which hurt but she wasn't walking fast enough for it to be that bad. Akali had already hit three.
"This ways clear" Kai'sa said, her hands held out in front of her in cation as she moved forward.
Just as Lux was about to follow something caught her eye. Someone.
With red hair.
___________________________________
Jinx fucking hated this. Ekko and Zeri had probably gotten out twenty minutes ago. Who even thought mirror mazes were a good idea? They were confusing and hurt like a bitch. She lost count of how many mirrors she'd hit, but it was enough to make her nose bleed.
She'd managed to stop her nose from bleeding, but the front of her shirt was very bloody, which made it look like she was in The Walking Dead or something, so she didn't care to much.
She could hear the chatter of another group somewhere in the maze, she would've found them and followed them out if she could, but that just resulted in hitting another mirror.
"Damn it" she swore feeling blood start to trickle from her nose again.
Just as she was about to wipe the blood on her shirt she felt a hand on her shoulder. She whipped her head around and suddenly going into the maze didn't seem so bad.
"Lux? The hell are you doing here?!" She grinned, ignoring the metallic taste dripping into her mouth.
"I-I'm here with friends, why are you bleeding so much?!"
"Well, I've been stuck in here for a while, and this is my second nose bleed, heh"
"Did you get in a fight or are you just stupid?"
"Hey! I'm not stupid, the mirrors are!"
Lux chuckled lightly and grabbed a tissue from her...Fanny pack.
"Oh my god. You really are a grandma! I thought you were my age! Tell me, how were the 90's? Did you get candy bars for less than a dollar??"
"Shut up, it's convenient! And they're having a comeback!" She fussed handing Jinx a few tissues, which didn't do much but it was less blood on the floor.
"Thank you for the tissues, dear grandma." Jinx said in a posh tone, tossing the bloody tissues on to the floor.
"You're really just going to leave blood soaked tissues on the ground?"
"It'll be funny if a kid sees it, so yes. Now, let's get out of this thing, and I'm counting on you because I think I've proven I can't"
"Yes, you have. Just keep your arms out and follow behind me, closely or you'll hit another mirror."
"Yes ma'am, lead the way"
Lux sighed, looked around, and starting walking, holding her arms out I front of her. Jinx followed closely behind, careful not to flat tire Lux.
And then she hit a mirror.
"Fuck!" She hissed, Her nose hurt enough but now it was worse, hit another mirror and she might break it.
"How did you run into another one?!" Lux asked from the left, where Jinx guessed she'd missed a turn.
"I dunno..magic?" She said wiping her nose
Lux sighed and held out her hand
"Give me your hand"
"Huh?"
Lux rolled her eyes and took Jinx's hand, which had some blood on it. It was probably going to look like Lux had punched her in the face.
"T-This way you won't hit mirrors. Your nose might break if it happens again"
"Eh, might be broken already"
"Let's hope not" Lux said starting to tug her along. Jinx, although she hated to admit it, was pretty happy she had an excuse to hold hands with Lux. Creepy, she knows. But it was so small, and soft, and it was like, super cute that Lux was helping her, it was almost funny.
"You have nice hands" Jinx said abruptly, almost happy she didn't think it through, but also mad for possibly being creepy.
"What?"
"Jus sayin, not to be creepy, but they're nice." Jinx shrugged
"T-thanks." Lux said keeping her head turned, probably just focusing on not running into a mirror.
Jinx knew she wasn't good at compliments, but she thinks that went pretty well.
Lux somehow didn't hit any mirrors. Probably cause she used her hands, which Jinx didn't do because the mirrors probably had kid snot on them. And it was dumb.
As they neared the exit, which was now in plain sight, Jinx was almost disappointed they found it so soon. She like hanging out with Lux, and she knew they'd have to go their ways once they got out. And this would probably be the only time she ever held Lux's hand, which sucked but she'd had little crushes on plenties of straight girls. It was a pain in the ass. But she'd get over it. Probably.
"See? It's so hard when you don't use your face" Lux smiled pushing open the exit door, in doing so dropping Jinx's hand.
"You should wash your hands, probably got kid snot on em now" Jinx said squinting at the bright lights that she hadn't been exposed to in a good thirty minutes.
"You should wash your face. You look like you were beat up" Lux said glancing around
"Who'd you come here with?"
"Ekko n' Zeri, they got out a while ago, so their probably doin rides or somethin"
"I'm guessing my friends are doing the same" Lux said, pausing to think.
"Do you want to go on the ferris wheel?"
***
After cleaning up, they went to the Ferris wheel.
Was Jinx totally ditching Ekko and Zeri? Yes.
Would they be cool with it? Yes.
Was Lux totally ditching her friends? Yes.
Would they be cool with it? No.
But Lux asked, so she couldn't say no. Lux's friends sucked anyways. She was kind of shocked Lux was willing to, especially for her. Maybe they were even better friends then she thought? Which was awesome, and she was totally down for it. No buts.
Jinx:
I'm ditching you guys
Lux saved me
Zeri;
Of course you need help to get out
Ekko:
Of course you'd ditch us for your girlfriend
Jinx:
She held my hand
It was awesome
And she's ditching her friends
Ekko:
Wait fr???
Is she..?
Jinx:
Definitely not
But I'll take what I can get
Zeri:
Have fun on your date with your definitely not gay girlfriend
Jinx made sure her screen brightness was all the way down while texting, since Lux was right next to her as they waited in line for the Ferris wheel. She'd seen Lux on her phone, so she'd probably come up with something as an excuse.
The wait wasn't incredibly long. The girl operating the coaster gave her a bit of a look as they stepped into the cabin. Probably because of her blood stained shirt, which she hopefully would make a fuss about.
"Y'been on this before?" Jinx asked nothing Lux looking around once they'd gotten in the cabin.
"No" Lux said almost nervously
"Why not?"
"I'm..a little bit afraid of heights. And I haven't been here in a while so I didn't have the chance..."
Jinx grinned.
This was going to be so much fun.
"Do you need a big strong girl like me to protect you?" Jinx teased, kicking Lux's shoe.
"Shut up. Are you even strong?"
"Uhhh, yeah! You don't need an excuse to see my muscles I can just-" Jinx started to lift her shirt before Lux (very) quickly stopped her
"Y-you don't need to do that"
Jinx shrugged, barley able to keep her self from laughing at Lux's expression. She was totally red, it was hilarious. Jinx wasn't even that muscley, she had light abs but she liked to act she was some sort of buff lady like Vi.
Then the Ferris Wheel started to turn.
Lux definitely looked nervous. Jinx didn't get why people had fears of heights, but she knew it had to suck.
"Hey, jokes aside, if the floor falls through or somethin, you can use me as a landing pad"
"That's not helping"
"How about..." Jinx said stepping across the canon and sitting down next to Lux
"This" Jinx smiled offering her hand. Why not be a little bold? It was a Ferris wheel.
Lux looked at her hand skeptically before taking it, avoiding looking at Jinx.
"Y'want know what I'm afraid of?" Jinx asked, trying to avoid it becoming super awkward.
"What?"
"Hair dryers"
Lux looked at her with a small grin
"Hair dryers?"
"Uh huh. hate em"
"Why?"
"They're loud, I heard about them blowing up, and if the nozzle touched anything it would burn. You'd have to be crazy to put that thing near your hair! Isn't hair like, super flammable or somethin?"
"I use a hair dryer and my hair has never burnt off."
"You're crazy, one day it's gonna scotch off your hair"
Lux laughed a little. Jinx was pretty sure she'd successfully distracted her from the fact they'd reach the top. And as nice as the view was, she was pretty sure it would kill someone with a fear of heights.
Jinx managed to keep Lux distracted from the nearly two hundred foot drop outside the Ferris wheels cabin. It was fun, totally would've been considered pretty fucking romantic if Lux wasn't probably straight. Probably because they had now held hands twice. That was a little gay.
When they did get off, which was after about fifteen minutes which flew by, Jinx again had to stop holding hands with Lux. Sucked.
"You should get back to your friends, they're gonna be pissed as is" Jinx said walking along side Lux, going nowhere really.
Lux sighed "yeah, probably, Akali's been blowing up my phone"
"Mhm. Thanks for hangin out, it was nice. Like, super nice, and cool"
"Yeah, we should hang out more. I really enjoyed this, except for the heights part but that wasn't so bad."
"Totally. I'll text ya alright?"
"Yeah" Lux smiled
***
She was such a lesbian it wasn't even funny.
She could barley sleep the night of the Pier not date. There was two days till the concert, and now she was pretty sure she had a pretty big crush.
Like, massive.
How could she not? Lux was cool, but not like Jinx was. Lux was like...cool at everything. She didn't know what other word to use. Sure she dressed like she was eighty, was a total nerd (the bad kind), she reminded her of pinkie pie from my little pony as a human a little bit to much, and she was friends with the biggest assholes known to humanity.
Gods she was stupid for liking her so much.
Especially since she was probably straight and even if she wasn't she wouldn't like someone like Jinx. And even if she did like Jinx, big if, she wouldn't date her, because she cared about how she looked to people to much.
But hey, she had a good friend. That's the most she could ask for.
____________________________________
The concert was still three hours away, and Lux was going insane. She didn't know what to wear, what to bring, how it would go. She was excited for the concert, and even more excited to be going with Jinx, but that was the thing. She could barley handle the Ferris wheel, and not because her fear of heights. It was because Jinx was holding her hand, and was really close, and was being really nice. She wasn't gay but....
Anyways.
The plan was Akali would pick her up at 7, drop her off, come back at 10, and bring her back. Assuming everything went the way she thought it would, aka, a normal concert where they sit, listen, talk, snack. That's it. That's all. Nothing else.
Lux decided to dress as she usually did, as Jinx would put it a grandma. White short overalls and purple sweater underneath. It was cute, not trying to hard, and appropriate for a concert. If she had to guess Jinx would look like she rolled out of bed, but she wasn't complaining.
When Lux got the text from Akali that she was there she got out of the house as quick as she could to avoid her family holding her up. She quickly yelled bye before closing the door and getting into Akali's car, which was actually a really nice car, a Subaru.
"Hey, thanks for getting me"
"No problem, anything to help you have your first date with a girl"
"Akali I swear-"
"Not a date, right." Akali smirked pulling out of the drive.
"Are you sure you don't like her? Even a little, cause it's pretty obvious Lux."
"It's not like that, really" Lux lied. Like hell she was telling anyone anything. That would make it real.
"Hm, alright. If you say so."
Most of the car ride the chatted about what they were doing for the summer, and thankfully Akali dropped the date thing.
The venue was a little over a half hour away, but they got there soon enough to leave some time before the concert.
Lux assumed she'd need the time to find Jinx and get snacks. Jinx had already messaged her she got a good spot on the lawn were she'd already set up the 'rebel base', which Lux thought was kind of nerdy, but she loved Star Wars so it was cool.
Lux exchanged goodybyes with Akali before going through security, which wasn't as much of a line as she expected.
Now was the real challenge. Finding Jinx. Easiest way was texting her, right?
Lux:
I'm here
where are you?
Jinx:
Here
*image*
....
It was a picture of the sky. Why did Lux think she'd make this easy.
Lux:
Why are you like this
Jinx:
Part of my charm
Hurry up and find me
And get snacks
I'm hungry
Lux:
I'll get you snacks if you actually tell me where you are
Jinx:
The lawn
Now hurry or I'll starve to death
Lux sighed and put her phone back in her pocket. Jinx did have pretty unique hair, so it shouldn't be to hard to find her.
But first she jus had to get snacks. Jinx would probably start chewing the grass if she didn't.
Food lines were kind of long, but she knew they moved fast. She guessed Jinx liked sweet things considering what she got at the cafe, so she decided on funnel cakes. They were always good.
Once she had the funnel cakes, which she got extra powdered sugar on, it was time to find Jinx in the sea of people that had arrived during the short period of time she took to get funnel cakes.
The lawn was huge, covered in towels where people sat with family and friends. As much as Lux liked kids, she really hoped Jinx didn't pick a spot near any. Little kids were annoying during concerts, they cried louder than the music played.
She did see some people she knew as she searched, but she made sure they didn't notice her. As much as she liked Jinx...she didn't want a bad reputation.
Speaking of.
She spotted red hair. And said red head was sitting on a towel that looked like it was dragged through an auto shop and then an art studio.
Definitely Jinx.
Lux walked closer, and after confirming it was Jinx sat next to her.
..
"Hi?"
Jinx slightly jumped and turned her head
"Oh hi! I was zonin out, how long ya been there?"
"Only a few seconds. here" Lux smiled giving her a funnel cake, immediately getting a big grin from Jinx
"You are amazing" She grinned snatching the plate and ripping a large portion off and stuffing it in her mouth.
"How long have you been here?" Lux asked taking a small bite of her funnel cake.
"I dunno, twenty minutes? Caitlyn wanted me to be early"
"Is she your mom or something?"Lux asked chuckling lightly
"Basically"
"Does your real mom not live here?"
A little bit of silence
"Nah, she's dead. Caitlyn n' Vi are my fill ins"
Jinx took another large bite of her funnel cake before noticing Lux's shocked and worried expression.
"I don't even remember my parents, so don't say shit okay? It'll make this kinda suck. Ask later alright?" Jinx said quickly right before Lux could say anything.
"Y-yeah. Sorry"
Jinx looked her up and down
"You look more like an old person than usual."
At least it was a change of subject. Though Lux was seriously still wanting to say something about Jinx telling her that her parents were dead.
"Plenties of people dress like this you know?"
"Yeah, people as in senior citizens."
"There's people at school who dress somewhat similarly"
"Eh, you're probably the best at it"
She wasn't sure if the best at looking old was supposed to be a compliment or what.
"Is that good?"
"I dunno, it's kinda cute I guess"
Lux guessed that was good seeing as Jinx had called her cute. Kinda.
"You think old people are cute?" Lux smirked
"Ew, no, old people scare me. You make it look good, I guess."
Lux smiled fighting the blush
"Thank you, you make looking slightly homeless look good"
Jinx laughed and took another mouth full of funnel cake.
The first half of the show went by. It was really fun. Jinx finished her funnel cake and all that Lux couldn't finish. Jinx had really gotten the perfect spot, the music wasn't so loud it hurt, but it was still to loud to hear anything else. They even played the Transformers mix.
Sure there wasn't any handholding, but it was still nice.
Then there was the break. Jinx went to use the bathroom, which made sense since she'd had a lot of orange juice to wash down the funnel cakes.
And that, unfortunately, left a window where she was alone.
Which was perfect for people she knew to walk up to her.
"Lux?"
She turned her head to see Ezreal with a drink. One he probably shouldn't be drinking.
"Oh, Ez, Hi! What're you doing here?" She asked, though she'd already seen him earlier.
"One of my buddies offered free drinks if I came, can't turn that down. What about you? Dosent seem like your kind of scene"
"I'm here with a uh..friend"
"Just one? That sounds lame. It isn't a dude is it?"
"It's not"
"Oh, good. You guys should come hang with us"
Honestly, she really just want it to be her and Jinx. But Ezreal was her friend too, she couldn't just say no.
"Uhm...I'll have to ask her.. I don't know if-"
"Hey." Lux and Ezreal both looked over to see Jinx, who looked considerably grumpier.
"You know this asshole?" She asked glaring at Ezreal.
"I-..yeah he's my friend..do you know him?" Lux said glancing at Ezreal who looked like he was about to shit himself.
"Hell yeah I do. This walking piece of shit totally tried to bully me a while back. Course I didn't let it happen tho"
Lux quickly looked back to Ezreal. There's no way Ezreal would bully someone, why would he even do that?
"L-Listen I was youn-"
"Oh shut up, you tell er' bout it or we can repeat freshman year"
Ezreal swallowed hard and glanced at Lux before staring at his feet.
"Uh..do I..wasn't the nicest, when I was younger. And uhm...one of my friends found out Jinx and Seraphine were...whatever-"
"Dating you can say it dumbass"
Oh. So she did like women....
But Seraphine? She..dated Seraphine?
That was weird. Really weird, they were totally incompatible. And Seraphine was a lesbian too? And actually dated Jinx? That was really weird, and for some reason a little upsetting. We're they still together? Wait no they didn't get along.
"Y-yeah..and I may have..been a little mean to them.. and planned on..doing some really mean stuff...but then Jinx..kind of almost killed me"
Lux's eyes shot back to Jinx, who sighed
"Don't be such a drama queen, it was the ER. Not a morgue."
"I'm not a drama queen you committed a felony!"
"The sheriff didn't think so"
"That's because she's fagging with your sister!"
Jinx grinned and looked at Lux
"See? An asshole"
"Ez-"
"Is leaving now before I make him."
"R-right. I'll see you Lux."
Lux slightly waved watching him stumble away.
Then turned to Jinx is sat back down next to her.
"Sorry bout that'. I dunno why you're friends with that asshole, but whatever."
"You didn't tell me you were a felon" Lux said nervously
"Yeah, my bad. He didn't give you a good chunk of the story, but it was totally for a good reason."
"I'd like it if you told me now. I ..don't really like to hang out with..criminals"
Lux winced at her own words. Jinx wasn't bad, and she had to have had a good reason to put Ezreal in the emergency room.
"Come on! I ain't gonna lie, I was a little bit of a criminal, but I'm chill now . I got cop sister parents, I ain't even aloud to be around people they don't approve of!"
"Still.."
Then the speakers rang as the microphone was turned back on.
Jinx groaned into her hands
"You wanna know now?"
"Preferably"
"Alright, let's go, it's gonna be to loud. I can get us into another one if you deem me not a criminal"
Lux didn't want to leave, she really liked cheap trick. But...she really couldn't hang out with someone who sent one of her friends to the ER, and who has probably committed plenties of other crimes.
She knew Jinx was, or used to, be a delinquent, but she didn't think she was an actual criminal.
"Where are we going?" Lux asked standing up so Jinx could pick up the towel.
"My house. Caitlyn's already waiting in the parking lot so why not?"
There was a lot of reasons why not. But Caitlyn was the Sheriff, so it's not like Jinx would be able to do anything if she suddenly got aggressive or something. She didn't know how criminals worked.
"Y-yeah that works."
"Good, let's go, I can show you my pop figures too"
How was Jinx still so..carefree about this? Like, yeah Lux loved pop figures, they even made gremlins cute, but was that really appropriate?
Like Jinx said, Caitlyn was in the parking lot, which meant she must have come really early to get a spot, most people were parked on the street.
Jinx opened the back door sliding across to sit behind the passenger seat. Lux followed in a little hesitant.
"You're back early. Was it cancelled?"
"Nah Lux wants to know why I sent that asshole Ezreal to the ER, it can't wait sooo"
Caitlyn turned around and gave Jinx a look
"And everything else id hope?"
Jinx grumbled
"Jinx"
"Yeah fine, and everything else"
Caitlyn turned to Lux
"She'll be good, don't worry." She smiled before turning back around and starting the car.
Lux glanced over at Jinx who gave her a slightly nervous smile. Maybe she killed someone?
____________________________________
Great. She had valid excuses for sending Ezreal to the ER, but the drugs, alcoholism, vandalism, and other little violent occurrences that she did not have good excuses for.
She could easily get them into another concert, so that didn't suck to much. But she did wish she couldn't stayed for Dream Police.
Lux probably already thought she was some crazy freak for sending someone to the ER. And if she heard the other stuff no way in hell was she sticking around.
Stupid Caitlyn and her stupid ideas. Maybe she'd spit on her pillow or remove all the toilet paper from the house.
***
As soon as Caitlyn stopped the car Jinx hopped out, not wanting Caitlyn to go off about anything. She quickly ushered Lux out of the car, excited to show off her funko pops, before the bad part of course.
"Come on! We gotta lot to do!" Jinx said rushing Lux through the door.
"Keep the door open got it?"
"Yeah I know Caitlyn"
Jinx didn't get the keep the door open rule. It was dumb, and she thought they deserved some privacy. But whatever, rules were rules and if she broke them it wouldn't be good for anyone.
Lux silently followed Jinx up to her room, which thankfully was kept clean. She wasn't aloud to leave the house if it was messy. Jinx was actually happy that was a rule right now.
"Alright so," Jinx said shutting the door, oops, maybe it was the fan.
"These are my pop figures!" She grinned looking at her impressive collection of figures stacked to the ceiling and nearly taking up half the wall.
"You have three Britney Spears?"
"Uh huh. I spend most of my money of pop figures and all this other junk"
Lux looked around the room. Jinx was pretty proud of her collection of stuff, although it was completely nerdy. She wasn't sure if Lux was into nerdy stuff, but whatever, she loved showing off.
"Soooo? You want to look at my awesome stuff all night or do you wanna get the bad part out of the way?"
"Oh, uhm. R-Right."
Fuck this was going to suck.
"Alright come sit it's gonna take a minute" Jinx said jumping on to the bottom bunk of her bed and patting across from her. Lux hesitantly sat in front of her.
"So, you wanna know about Ezreal first?"
Lux nodded
"Awesome. So, you know the bit where he goes and starts being a total homophobe-"
Jinx paused
"Oh shit I didn't tell you I was lesbian my bad. That doesn't weird you out right?"
"No, of course not."
That was a relief.
"Okay good. Anyways, he threatened to tell everyone, which Seraphine was definitely not cool with, her parents are chill with it and she ain't tough enough to get bullied. And worst part, he said if we didn't want him to tell anyone we'd have to 'let him into our shit'. Which is creepy as fuck and we were like fifteen."
The expression on Lux's face was priceless. She definitely wasn't expecting that.
"That is a really good reason.I-I'm sorry..he did that"
"Yep, I made sure he wouldn't try anything ever again. And it worked, but it was the end of my nutso stuff, Caitlyn and Vi made sure of that."
"Is that why you don't go to school?"
"Yep. That and the rest of my history. Which is full of things I don't have good excuses for"
"How many people have you sent to the ER?"
"Just one other than Ezreal, and it was me, so it doesn't count."
Lux's eyes widened a little.
"How the hell did you get yourself in the emergency room?"
"Five times actually. Three times cause fighting, and the other two....eh"
Jinx scratched the back of her head, this was the rough part.
"This is gonna sound real bad so don't freak out to much, alright?"
"It depends on how bad its going to be" Lux cringed
"Pretty bad. Ready?"'
Lux nodded
"Great. The first time was an accidental overdose. Heroin. That was when I was thirteen, Vi was in jail and I didn't really have the best parental figure"
"When you were thirteen!? Jinx, how did that happen?!"
"Uhh this dude who was fostering me was a bit of a drug lord. Vi went to jail, which was a total misunderstanding by the way, when I was eleven and the dude said drugs would help me cope, which just got me addicted and blah blah blah."
"That's- that's terrible Jinx, are you alright? Like Health wise?"
"Oh yeah, I mean it took a while, after the other ER trip which was..probably worse" she grimaced
Lux look terrified.
"When I was fourteen I had a little bit of an on purpose overdose, I found out Vi had gotten out of jail and the dude never told me, but did tell Vi I was dead... so I thought she didn't want me or whatever"
Lux looked like she was staring at a puppy that was brutally beaten.
"Are you..alright now?"
"Totally, after the Ezreal thing they found out I was alive thanks to Cait, hated her for a while but I got over it. Kinda."
Before Jinx could say anything else Lux leaned forward and hugged her. That took Jink by surprise.
"Ooookay." Jinx said not really knowing what to do. She didn't get upset telling about her past anymore, she'd had a therapist for while.
She knew how bad it was, so she guessed Lux's reaction was appropriate. But still awkward.
Jinx patted Lux's back, cringing at her own actions.
"There's a few small things, like vandalism and fights but those aren't so bad" Jinx said trying to make things less awkward.
"S-sorry" Lux said pulling away, pushing her hair back into place.
"It's cool. We good?"
"Y-yeah. Sorry we missed the concert"
"I'll get us in another one, besides, now you get to admire my awesome room!"
Lux smiled
"It is a really cool room. I like your posters."
"Oh so you're both kinds of nerdy! What's your favourite show?!"
"Probably The Boys?"
Perfect. She could now completely change the subject and never have to revisit her past.
"Oooh I love that show! Have you seen The Walking Dead?"
"Only up until the end of season six"
Jinx grinned.
"You wanna watch the next episode? It's really good."
That was a lie. The next episode was a complete disaster and a lot of favourite characters died.
"Sure!"
This was going to be fun.
***
Roughly fifty minutes later, Lux was very shocked. They'd been sat on the couch in Jinx's room with a bowl of candy, watching the chaos unfold. Jinx loved it, watching Lux react to everything.
And then they watched the next episode.
Then another.
And another.
Yeah. So they may have lost track of time enjoying the episodes and chatting. It was really fun, and honestly worth missing the concert and having to explain her not so nice past.
After about another two hours, which was equal to three episodes, it was pretty late. Lux was half asleep, and probably not able to pay much attention. Jinx usually stayed up pretty late but she guessed Lux didn't.
"Ya wanna sleep? You look like you're about to pass out" Jinx asked nudging her slightly
"Hm? Oh, yeah. I guess. I don't usually stay up late" Lux said gorgily, clearly tired.
"Alright," Jinx started turning off the tv, the episode had just finished
"Top or bottom?" She asked dropping her candy wrappers into the bin.
"Huh?"
She must be really tired.
"Top or bottom bunk?"
"O-oh right, uhm..which do you want?"
"Mmmm, top, I feel like you'd fall off and break something."
"Maybe" Lux chuckled softly as she climbed into the bottom bunk. Why did Jinx have a bunk bed? Because they're awesome, that's why.
Jinx climbed onto the top bunk after turning out the lights. She knew she wouldn't be able to fall asleep for a while since one, big day, two, Lux was in the room.
"G'Night"
"Good night" Lux mumbled
Jinx opened her phone to look for something to do until she was tired. But as soon as she opened a game Lux spoke up again.
"Can I ask you something?"
Jinx clicked her phone off
"Sure"
Lux was quiet for a second
"Are you and Seraphine still dating?"
That was random.
"Nah we broke up a while ago, why?"
"I don't know..how did you know you liked her?"
Jinx popped her head down to look at Lux, careful not to fall and give herself a concussion.
"What're you really asking?" She smirked
Lux averted her eyes
"How did you know that you...liked girls?"
Jinx picked her head back up and hopped down from the top bunk. Lux sat up as Jinx slid into the bed in front of her sitting criss cross with a big smile.
"You think you might like girls?"
Lux shrugged "I-I don't know."
"I started to think like, 'huh maybe I'm a bit gay' when I had a crush on Seraphine, cause she's cute and I'm a teenager. And then when she kissed me I was like 'oh yeah, totally'"
If Lux was even the tiniest bit into girls, Jinx might actually have a shot. This was kind of awesome.
"How do I know if I like someone..like that?"
"Haven't you had crushes before?"
"Not really?"
Okay. That was a big sign. Not having crushes is basically saying, 'I don't like men so I'm just going to tell myself I've never had a crush because I never thought to look at women that way'.
"Well that's a sign. How many people have you kissed?"
"I- none? I'm not very but m-my family's religious, and I've never liked anyone.."
Huh. Never had a crush. Never kissed. That was a very very very big sign. But if her family was religious..they probably wouldn't like if she was into girls. She guessed Lux was probably pretty sheltered.
Was Jinx still gonna help her figure it out? Yep.
"Kiss me" Jinx grinned watching shock consume Lux's face
"H-huh?!"
"If ya like it, then you'll know right?"
Even with only the light of a single night light, Jinx could see how much Lux was blushing.
"It don't gotta mean anything, just to see right?"
Was this low? Yes. But would she get to kiss Lux? Maybe.
"Y-yeah but..isn't that a little weird?"
"'Course not. It's just a kiss, not like we're going to go any further" Jinx shrugged.
"I..I don't know how"
"You'll catch on. You wanna try?"
Lux finally looked at her. She was hella nervous, that's for sure. Jinx didn't want her to be nervous. But this might be her only chance to kiss Lux.
"It dosent gotta mean nothing, alright? Just testing"
Jinx gave her a genuine smile as she looked at her a little longer.
"Y-yeah. Okay. J-Just to know."
Wow.
She was actually about to kiss Lux.
...
"Jinx! Door open!" Vi's voice rang from the hall way.
Jinx jumped at the sound and quickly scooted back from Lux, who was also startled.
Vi swung the door open and stared Jinx down before noticing Lux
"Oh hey Lux! Is she keepin you up?"
"N-no, we were about to sleep."
"Oh, alright good. Jinx, get in your bed, you were supposed to be asleep an hour ago. And keep the door open."
Jinx groaned and crawled back up into her bunk. She was so damn close.
"I hear a peep and you're grounded, got it?"
"Yep." Jinx replied flatly
"Alright, g'night, be good."
"Night."
The door shut.
And silence.
She totally fucked up.
___________________________________
The minute Lux woke up it hit her.
She didn't tell her parents she was staying the night. She also didn't tell Akali she was staying at Jinx's.
She grabbed her phone and opened her messenger app to see that Akali had left a lot of messages, and some from her mom.
Akali:
LUX R U KIDNAPPED
I COVERED FOR YOU IF YOURE NOT
WHERE R. U
DID JINX KILL U
LUX
LUX
LUX
Lux:
Sorry. I wasn't checking my phone
Thanks for covering
I stayed at Jinx's
Akali:
...
You...
Slept.
At Jinx's house??????
Did you two do anything your parents wouldn't
like? ;)
Lux:
Omg
I want to block you
I won't
We just watched TV
And then we slept
Akali:
Sureeeeee
Send me ur location I'll come get you
Your parents are gonna be maaaaaad
Lux sent her the address and got up. She really didn't feel like having a full conversation with Jinx, after last night...would it make things weird? Jinx said it wouldn't, and they didn't even kiss. But it was still embarrassing that they almost did.
She thinks she might want to kiss her, but it such a new feeling, and it was Jinx, who was made it very clear the kiss wouldn't change anything, which Lux thought would be good but it kind of made her sad to hear.
Did she want something with Jinx? She'd only had small crushes that were kind of fake because she wanted to fit in, having crushes on the most popular boys.
She'd never let herself think she could like a girl romantically, which was probably because of her parents and their intense teachings of how that was a sin.
She wasn't religious, as least not as much as they were. But if she did like girls...they wouldn't be happy. And her friends would probably think it was weird too. She knew Akali wouldn't think it was weird, but she wasn't so sure about the rest of them.
When Lux got the text from Akali that she was there she decided leaving without saying anything would make it seem like she was mad at Jinx.
So she stood on the bottom bunk and tapped Jinx a little to wake her up, which just got a grumble. Clearly not a morning person.
"Hey, Akali's here to pick me up, I'll text you okay?"
"Mmh"
Well, she was acknowledged, good enough.
She didn't see Vi or Caitlyn on the way out, which was good because she really had to go.
She already knew that Akali would not let it go that she stayed over at Jinx's.
"Wow, no visible hickeys, good job" Akali grinned as Lux sat in the passenger side.
"..thanks for getting me."
"Of course, I understand why you couldn't answer your phone. To busy getting laid, the only valid excuse" She smirked beginning
Lux looked at her for a second
"Something did happen, almost."
Akali slammed the breaks and whipped her head to stare at Lux.
"Wait what?! Tell me everything! Unless it's super kinky or something!"
"I said almost! We just...almost kissed. Maybe."
Akali was completely flabbergasted, mouth completely agape, eye brows shot all the way up.
"You. Luxanna Crowngaurd. Almost kissed Jinx. The criminal wacko?"
"Kind of?"
"And did ya want to kiss her?!"
"Kind of." Lux whined into her hands. She did. And she missed her chance.
"That's awesome! This is like, the first time you've had a crush right?! So are you like, lesbian? Bi?"
"I don't know, I just..like Jinx"
A car honked at them, since they were stopped in the middle of the road.
"Can I tell you a secret?" Akali said starting to drive again.
"Yeah?"
"Me and Eve have been together for almost two years"
"What?! Really?!"
"Uh huh, we're good at hiding it. And if you needed to hide something with Jinx, I got advice for you"
"Woah, I thought Evelynn would be homophobic."
Akali snorted "I thought so too. But she immediately starting flirting with me"
"How do I know if Jinx likes me?"
"People have different ways of showing it, if you ask me, she seems like the bold type. Does she compliment you often?"
"She said my hair looked soft and that I have nice hands"
Akali silently laughed, and then laughed louder. Lux was pretty sure she was missing something.
"She said- She said you have- Nice hands?!"
"Yes??"
"Do you-" she coughed "Do you know what that could have meant?!"
"No!?"
Akali never told her what it meant
***
When Lux got home, her parents were pretty mad. Like, very mad.
They didn't like when she did sleepovers, and especially when she didn't ask, or even give a heads up.
Worst part?
They took her phone. The phone she needed to text Jinx, and meet with her friends. She was also grounded to the house till Wednesday. There was actually a set date Wednesday to go, but was that soon enough? Maybe Jinx would think she was mad? If she snuck out she'd be in even more trouble.
The best choice was to wait and hope Jinx didn't think she was pissed.
What did she even do when she saw Jinx again?
Just ask if they can go kiss?
Was that even still on the table?
Jinx was just doing it to help her understand herself, and even said it wasn't going to change anything. Was she even interested in Lux? Jinx could really just want to be friends. Maybe there wasn't even a little wiggle room.
Lux had never done this before, so she didn't know what she was doing at all. She had friends tell her about their dating lives, she'd seen plenties of romance shows.
The only show with a romance between two girls was about an evil half cat girl and a princess. And the shoes target audience was young kids. She also wasn't a princess, nor a magical cat. Neither was Jinx.
How was she supposed to go about this? She couldn't even ask Akali till Wednesday. She obviously couldn't ask her family, she didn't even want to think about telling them she liked a girl.
***
Those couple days were agonising. Thinking about how much people were probably messaging her, especially Jinx.
But, it was Wednesday. She could finally talk to her friends again, and hopefully have a time to talk to Jinx, in private.
When she did get her phone back, which was Wednesday morning, she wasn't surprised to have a ton of messages from her friends, all except for Jinx.
Maybe Jinx was mad at her? Did she do something wrong? Maybe she offended Jinx by asking about her past?
Gods she hated this.
She wanted to text Jinx but didn't know what to say.
She decided to wait.
Akali would pick her up and go to the music shop. Then she could think of something to say.
On the spot.
Akali came to pick her up at noon. Lux had of course stressed over what she wore, of course no matter what she wore Jinx would think she looked like an old woman. But apparently that was a good thing.
Jinx did kind of flirt with her, but she might just be being friendly.
When Akali showed up, as always, Lux got out the door as quick and into Akali's car as soon as possible.
"You ready to smooch with your girlfriend?"
"She's not my girlfriend" Lux said buckling
"Mhm, but you're ready to smooch her?"
Lux smiled and ignored her
"Is everyone coming?"
"Mhm, don't say anything about me and Eve, you're the only one who knows"
"As long as you can distract everyone so I can talk to Jinx"
Akali chuckled "talk, right. Sure, I'll distract everyone while you 'talk' to Jinx."
Lux was sure that no matter what she said Akali would not shut up about it.
They got to the store first. Evelynn was driving everyone else, which left time to talk to Jinx.
When she walked in after Akali she noticed Vi was at the counter. Right, they both worked Wednesdays. Maybe Jinx wasn't there?
She felt Akali nudge her
"Go ask where your girlfriend is" she whispered through a smirk.
Lux rolled her eyes and walked up to the counter where Vi was sat shuffling through cds.
"H-hi. Is Jinx here?"
Vi looked up at her and smiled
"Oh hey! Yeah she's in the back. careful though, she's been a bit grumpy"
Shit.
"I'll go try to cheer her up a little, thanks"
Vi nodded and went back to what she was doing.
Lux looked back at Akali who gave her a thumbs up before walking to the employees only door. Hesitantly she opened it sticking her head in
"Jinx?"
She heard some fumbling before the red head came in to sight.
"Oh shit..hi" Jinx said sheepishly.
"Hey, are you alright? You look terrible" She grimaced stepping in.
"Y-yeah not a lotta sleep...uh, listen. I'm really super sorry about the other night. I-I didn't mean to make things weird or anything." Jinx explained like she killed Lux's cat.
"A-and I totally shouldn'tve pressed ya to do that, it was stupid and creepy as-"
"Jinx- I'm not mad" Lux interrupted setting her hands on Jinx's shoulders, which was a bit awkward because of the height difference.
"Y-You haven't messaged me in days, I-I thought you were pissed"
"My parents took my phone for not telling them i wouldn't be back till morning. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make you worry"
Jinx took a few heavy breaths
"Y-you're not mad?"
"No, of course not. I- I wanted to, b-but I got nervous"
Jinx's expression switched up really quick. From worry and fear to a smirk.
"Want to?"
Lux felt her face flush
"I-...I guess so? I-Is that weird?"
"No, I'm totally kissable,"
Jinx cocked her head and squinted her eyes at Lux
"But do you mean that in a 'want to figure out your sexuality' type of way or a 'want to kiss me' type of way?"
She was pretty sure she was starting to figure out that first one already.
"Would y-you want to kiss me?"
"Don't get weirded out?"
Lux nodded in agreement
"Totally would. You're like super cute, nice, and awesome. Not a lot of people like that." Jinx said almost nervously.
"So basically I'mtotallyintoyou but I get it ifyoujust wanttobefriends...or whatever." Jinx said quickly averting her eyes.
Holy shit.
Jinx liked her.
"Can we kiss?" Lux asked quietly, but still thought it was pretty confident of her.
Jinx's eyes widened a little as she looked back at Lux
"Mhm" she peeped.
And then she leaned down meeting Lux's lips, placing her hands on either side of her face.
Lux didn't know exactly what to do, but she ended up wrapping an arm around Jinx's neck and pulling her closer.
Lux tried her best to copy Jinx's lips. Jinx must have had lolly recently as her lips tasted like butterscotch.
She could feel Jinx's hand lace into her hair, she could feel the warmth of Jinx's lips, and she could hear her heart beating in her ears.
Jinx pulled back letting her hand remain in Lux's hair.
Lux took a moment to observe her face, the slight trace of nervousness, the pink colouration across her cheeks, her slightly parted lips.
She then stood on her tip toes, connecting their lips again. Jinx made a bit of a sound, a good one, as she pressed back. Jinx's hands slowly ran down her back to rest on her hips.
"Lux I found this-"
Lux hadn't even heard the door.
They both whipped their heads to see Ahri standing in the door way, eyes wide and holding a record.
Jinx removed her hands from Lux and stepped back, clearing her throat, staring at Lux not knowing what to do.
"U-uhm...Hi Ahri" Lux smiled sheepishly.
Ahri looked between them.
"I'm so sorry. I'm just gonna-" She said shutting the door leaving Jinx and Lux in silence.
Ahri would probably keep it to herself, right?
"You should.. probably go make sure she isn't telling everyone" Jinx advised
"Yeah, but uhm...we should talk later, about this," she gestured between the both of them
"But I...I liked that..it was really nice" Lux said. She meant it. That was...really something.
"Yeah, that was totally awesome, we should do that more often" Jinx grinned
"Will you take me on a date first?"
"You ever been on a date?"
"Only one's my parents arranged"
"Oh, gross. Yeah I'll take you on a date, and it's gonna be amazing. We're gonna call it your first date cause set ups don't count."
Lux smiled.
A real date.
Not one with some boy her mother set her up with that she has no interest in. Someone she'd met, befriended, grown feelings for, and actually kissed. Her parents would hate it.
"Thank you...I'll text you okay?"
"Yeah. good luck with Ahri" Jinx smiled as Lux exited the back.
Time to deal with Ahri.
She probably hadn't told anyone what she saw, she didn't seem like the type of person to just go spreading information about private things she'd walked in on.
When Lux found her she was with the group in the pop section again, and none of them did anything when they saw her approach.
Accept Akali and Ahri.
Akali smirked at her, while Ahri glanced at her and quickly looked away.
"Ahri?" Lux said quietly
"Hm?!" Ahri smiled, which was clearly fake
"Can we talk quickly?"
Ahri glanced at the group, then back to Lux and nodded.
Akali gave Lux a confused look as they separated themselves from the group. Lux knew she'd have to explain it to Akali later as well.
Once they were in a section far enough Lux stopped to turn to Ahri.
"Listen Ahri...about what you saw-"
"And what exactly did I see?" She interrupted. Lux pressed her lips into a thin line. What did she see exactly? They kissed, twice, but it wasn't as simple as that.
"How long have you been..involved Jinx? Don't you know what she's done?" Ahri said crossing her arms
"We've been friends for a while, she's actually really nice. I know about everything she's done, and she had her reasons."
"Wait so..you're friends with benefits then?"
"What?! No! We're- we're currently just friends. But we are going to...go on a date."
Ahri sighed
"So you've not even been on a date and you're making out with her in the back of the store?"
"We weren't making out" Lux protested
"Right. And I suppose you want me to keep you're little friendship a secret?"
"I'd appreciate that. Akali knows some. but for now I'd like it no one else finds out."
"I won't say a word. Just assure me she isn't as bad as I've heard"
