The day had started of perfectly normal.
Hiccup was leaning against Toothless on the floor while he drew, Snotlout was having a nap on a chair with his legs on the table, Fishlegs was reading a book on plants and the twins were hitting one another with different objects as hard as possible.
Everything seemed normal..
Until Astrid walked in with a confused expression and pointed behind her "there's a Berkian ship coming into the docks, anyone know about this?"
Hiccup looked over confused "Berk has dragons, why they using a boat?"
Fishlegs stood up and began walking over to the main entrance with a shrug but Hiccup could hear the concern in his voice "maybe they don't have one or maybe their dragons are injured in some way"
The group walked over to the docks and they watched as three men and a woman walked off. Hiccup was aware that in the woman's arms was a baby and, what Hiccup assumed to be the parents, looked over at him nervously.
"Can i help you guys?" Hiccup asked politely and one of the men stepped forward with a small smile. "Hello Hiccup, I'm Youz" The man, Youz, then pointed to the man next to him "and this is Froy." Youz then pointed to the parents behind him "and that is Hela and Nork"
Hiccup smiled at them "what can i do for you?"
At this, the woman stepped forward and showed her baby to him "we were hoping to have you do the naming ceremony and maybe.. bless our child.." she trailed of nervously but Hiccup was too stunned to say anything about it. Suddenly he was pushed aside "don't you want MY blessing?" Snotlout boasted confidently but he was crushed by the woman's husband, Nork, as he chuckled "sorry lad, but we were hoping to have the Heir's blessing"
"Didn't you just come from Berk? can't you just have the Chief's blessing? its higher then Hiccups" Ruffnut asked as Tuffnut nodded before he suddenly gasped "Hiccup! you never told us you could bless someone! Quick! Bless me!"
Hiccup turned back around with a mumble before shrugging his shoulders at the four vikings in front of him "they're right though. My dad could of blessed your child" The group looked at one another before Froy leaned forward and rubbed his arms nervously "do you have somewhere less open? sorry but i'm a little cold"
Hiccup nodded before gesturing them to follow him.
Once they were in the clubhouse, a fire blazing in the middle, Youz came forward and admitted "you see, Hela and Nork came here to ask you to bless their child and we..." Hiccup watched as Froy came over to stand next to Youz and he watched as they both linked hands and understanding came over him ".. we were hoping.. you could marry us?"
The group was stunned. An awkwardness came over the group before Hiccup sighed and walked forward, putting his hands on both men's shoulders as he admitted "i can try"
Both couples relaxed as Hiccup smiled at them.
"But why can't Stoick do it?" Everyone turned to Astrid when she said this but it was Hiccup who answered with a wince "he's a.. little traditional and you should know that marriage between two of the same gender is forbidden"
Froy nodded "that's why we came here, we knew you were more open towards this"
Hiccup smiled, suddenly feeling enthusiastic, and he clapped his hands together "who wants to go first?"
The two men gestured to the couple and everyone watched as they came forward and carefully handed over their baby to Hiccups open arms. Hiccup looked down at the child and his left hand immediately went to the child's face, attempting to sooth it when it made a fuss. He didn't realise a smile had come across his face until he heard Toothless warble as he came close to see the child as well.
Hiccup smiled at the child before looking to the parents, who were watching with smiles of their own, and asking "what's their name?"
Hela smiled "we wanted to call her Ingrid"
Both parents held hands as Hiccup straightened up and everyone in the room could see his authority. The other riders moved so they were behind the couple and they all watched, especially Fishlegs, with excited expressions.
Hiccup looked at the parents with a smile before speaking with as much authority as he could muster "I, Hiccup Haddock the Third, Heir to the throne in Berk, formally declare this child's name as Ingrid" as he spoke, his thumb moved to brush over the child's forehead and he continued "and I bless this child to live a long and fulfilling life so long as Odin looks upon her"
Carefully, Hiccup gave the child back to the teary eyed parents and he smiled as Nork shook his hand enthusiastically "thank you dear boy, thank you"
Hiccup smiled and he caught his friends looking at him in awe and he couldn't help but flush at the attention.
The two men stepped forward nervously and Hiccup smiled warmly at them " I presume you both have your ancestral swords?" There were swords on both men's belts but Hiccup was only saying this to calm himself down and he saw the two men nod nervously but there were smiles on their faces as well.
Hiccup took a deep breath as the men faced one another and he asked "do you want a sword ceremony or a hand-fasting ceremony?" Froy slowly revealed a beautiful golden cloth with sword runes on them "can you do both?"
Hiccup grinned widely as he carefully took the cloth an both men relaxed. Talking a second to breathe, Hiccup looked over to his friends. They all looked intrigued, even Astrid, and Hiccup had to stop himself from laughing at Fishlegs' excited expression.
Looking at the two men, Hiccup cleared his throat and cupped his hands in front of him "May the protection of the All-father Odin embrace you and bring light on your future days. Marriage is a form of tying fate and these two lives shall forever be intertwined until they reach the gates of Valhalla. In a marriage, both parties must respect the others spirit, mind and body. Your devotion to one another should bestow upon you more courage to face the difficulties this life brings. Now, Froy, you can bestow your protection onto Youz and the process shall be repeated so both of you shall have one another's protection and courage."
Hiccup stopped speaking in order to watch as Froy carefully extended a beautiful sword towards Youz, who took it with a grin, before expending his own sword which was taken with a smile. Once the swords were placed in the others sheath, Hiccup continued.
"Please, hold hands for the hand-fasting ceremony" once the couple were holding hands, Hiccup took the cloth and wrapped it around their linked hands. "This cloth binds you together and through this marriage, you become more affectionate, knowledgeable and committed as you age apart and together. Let this marriage be blessed and protected under the eye of the Gods" and with that, Hiccup watched with a smile as both men leaned in and kissed one another.
Hiccup smiled wider before cheering made him look up. The couple were off to the side, cheering loudly and so was Fishlegs and the twins and Hiccup suspected that they were crying.
Hiccups eye then caught Snotlouts and Hiccup became concerned at the sadness he saw in his eyes and so he gave a nod to his cousin as well as a smile and he was relieved to see Snotlout relax slightly.
Looking back at the couple, he smiled at them as they came towards him and shook his hand with tears running down their faces "I hope you have a happy marriage" Hiccup smiled at them as they chuckled and hugged one another "thank you"
The moon was creeping up the night sky when there was a knock at his door. Confused, Hiccup shouted for them to come in and he was surprised to to his cousin standing there, looking nervous.
"What can I do for you?" Hiccup stood up from his desk and gestured Snotlout to come in and he watched as the other boy nervously came in before sitting with his back against the wall.
Snotlout wouldn't look him in the eye "when you said Stoick was traditional, what did you mean?" Hiccup stood in front of Snotlout with his arms crossed but he answered in a careful manner "he's.. traditional, you know? He's not really open to anything... Different" Hiccup saw how Snotlouts shoulders went higher and he moved to sit down next to his cousin but far enough to give him space "its like with the dragons, took him months to be open to Toothless sleeping next to me inside"
Snotlout nodded before he moved to look Hiccup in the eyes "your ok with what happened today?" Hiccup immediately nodded before answering "of course. They loved one another, I was just happy to help"
The room got awkward for a while before Snotlout admitted quiet voice "I might like boys too"
Hiccup let out a small hum before capturing Snotlouts eyes and stating confidently "I'd support you anyway I can"
Snotlout teared up "you don't think it's wrong?"
Hiccup immediately shook his head before smiling widely "I encourage it and if I'm being honest.. "
Snotlouts eyes widened in disbelief "what... No, you've always liked Astrid"
Hiccup smiled before standing up and moving to his desk where a scroll layed. Moving back over, Hiccup tossed the scroll to Snotlout who, once he read it, looked at Hiccup with wide eyes "It's a love poem... from Viggo?" Snotlout was stunned and when he looked up to Hiccup, he saw the other boy blush deeply but Snotlout saw something in his eyes that made his jaw drop "you can't be in love with Viggo Grimborn"
Hiccup gave him a small smirk "say that to the kiss we had last week"
"No way"
"Yes way" Hiccup smirked before sighing in despair "i know, i know.. but we do love one another and if my dad found out about that, even the other dragon riders... I could loose everything from my status as Heir and i'm pretty sure Stoick would be furious..." Hiccup made sure to look in Snotlouts eyes and he finished "I can be me with him and I love him.. of course we're still at war with him but who caaares"
Both Snotlout and Hiccup laughed before Snotlout sighed "I won't tell anyone.. but still, seriously? How did th- you know what? I don't want to know"
Hiccup just shook his head before smiling "i wont tell anyone either and there's a reason Viggo always has me alone when he starts the interrogation"
Snotlout shuddered before looking over appreciatively "thank you"
Hiccup took his hand and squeezed it "were family"
It was quiet for a moment before Snotlout shook his head and stood up "I'm gonna leave before it gets awkward so, see ya"
Hiccup laughed lightly "see ya later "
Hiccup watched him go before a warble made him look over to Toothless and he invited the dragon over, Toothless wasting no time to shove his head into Hiccups and licking furiously.
Hiccup laughed loudly as he struggled to get away "you know that doesn't wash out!"
From the outside of the hut, Snotlout heard this and he couldn't stop his chuckle and he shook his head, making his way to his own hut "he's family.." with another chuckle Snotlout stretched as he cast a glance being him "...and he's the strongest of us all"
