Work Text:

Hiccup wanted. He wanted more than anything in the entire world; call him a selfish asshole for that, but it was so painfully true. He yearned for acceptance, for somebody to love him despite his aura of flaws, despite his past luring over him.

Men had been something Hiccup knew he was interested in, ever since he was a young boy he would look at them the same way he looked at the girls on Berk. It was simply a fact of life. That caused no problem when he was young though: it was to be expected from the chief’s daughter. Because that was who Hiccup had been for half of his life, the chief’s daughter - living a life for nearly fifteen years.

Falling for men became a problem when he had been seen as the chief’s son. Even if he couldn’t have children of his own with his wife that didn’t mean the village didn’t assume he would have one. Everyone had believed he and Astrid would be each other’s forever, they seemed like a handsome pair, but then Heather had come along and Hiccup had realized that maybe their friendship was more important than their relationship.

Hiccup had fallen for multiple other individuals after that - men and women alike. Nobody had played with his heartstrings quite as much as Viggo had though.

Viggo was one of the smartest men Hiccup had ever met, and he played games that made his head spin. If you would have told Hiccup all those months ago that he would be falling into the man’s arms he would have laughed in your face.

Viggo had been a dragon hunter, a trader, the kind of person that Hiccup despised, but there was something different about him. Even if Viggo said that he was ruthless, there was a softness under the scarred exterior, a part of Viggo that many had not had the pleasure of seeing.

Oh but Hiccup had; he had seen the walls fall around Viggo’s heart and the love that he allowed to flow forth. He knew how passionate of a lover Viggo could be, how tender his touches could be, how despite his rough calluses his fingertips ran gently across Hiccup’s cheeks. The rest of the world didn’t see that part of Viggo: Hiccup relished being the sole person who experienced those tender moments.

Tonight was one of those moments, Viggo had set up camp on an island a day or two’s flight from Berk. Hiccup had said he was on a reconnaissance mission; he was extremely lucky that nobody had actually followed him this time. That had been a problem for a while.

Viggo's thumb grazed across Hiccup’s cheek, finding its way to his chin, grasping ever so slightly to bring Hiccup’s face a few centimeters closer. Their lips were a breaths width apart; he smiled into the kiss once they finally met. The man’s touch was intoxicating; Hiccup drank in the sensations. Viggo could encompass him entirely and he allowed it wholly.

Heat grew between them, tugging Hiccup closer and closer - kissing and touches lasting longer and longer.

Hiccup wanted. He wanted to give in, completely. Viggo tugged him closer; oh, gods how Hiccup wanted to give in.

He pulled back, lips bruised and bitten, “Viggo…”, his hands were pressed against the man’s chest and he was perched in his lap.

Viggo looked up at Hiccup in concern, “What’s wrong, my dear?”

Hiccup glanced around the room, not wanting to match Viggo’s gaze. The fire crackled on the other side of the hut that Viggo had built, illuminating the room ever so slightly. “Nothing’s wrong per se…”

“Clearly something is,” Viggo arched up, raising himself onto his forearms, “Hiccup, my boy, please tell me.”

Hiccup bit his lip, wincing, “There’s something I’ve been keeping from you, and… well, I hope that it doesn’t change anything between us, but I know that that’s thinking far too optimistically.”

Now Viggo sat up completely, taking Hiccup’s face in his hands, forcing the other to look at him, “Nothing, nothing at all, could change how I feel about you.”

“Oh, I’m not so sure about that one.”

“My dear, it’s quite alright.” Viggo began pressing gentle kisses to Hiccup’s jaw, “You are wonderful to me no matter.”

Hiccup sighed, years of stress piling onto his shoulders like rocks, “I’ve been keeping something from you, and if we want to… well it's important that you know.” He took a deep breath, attempting in vain to calm his racing heart, “I was born a woman.”

Viggo’s eyebrows raised, “Pardon?”

Hiccup pulled back, “I’m not a man, not physically at least, but I am a man, just not in the whole body sense, I just-”

Viggo’s surprisingly soft lips stole his words away, moving in a way that worked much better at calming Hiccup’s thoughts. They slowly broke apart, “If you say you are a man, then you are a man,” his lips trailed over Hiccup’s collar bones, beard tickling the sensitive skin there, “the most wonderful man in the entire archipelago.”

Hiccup crooned, “Is that so?”

“You have no idea, my dear.”

Hiccup fell into Viggo’s embrace, the man’s arms wrapping around his waist, hugging him close. This had gone far better than he had imagined; there was a dark part in his brain that assumed Viggo would hate him, push him away and leave him in the dark. But no, Viggo was here kissing generously across Hiccup’s freckled skin.
