Work Text:

It was just him in the house.

His parents left to go shopping for groceries, and Ritsu was hanging out with that Suzuki kid, so that meant Shigeo was alone for the time being.

He mostly stayed inside his room, before deciding to get a glass of milk. Shigeo pushed himself off his bed, heading out of his room and down the stairs.

Pouring himself a glass of milk, Shigeo decided to sit down on the couch and watch TV to bide some time. He placed the milk on the coffee table, reaching to grab the remote.

Shigeo's hand brushed against a book, it wasn't stacked on top of the various magazines and manga also present on the table, it was weirdly isolated.

He picked it up, examining the book. Shigeo found the name 'Ritsu' neatly printed on the book cover, which he now knew was a journal. There was nothing else on the cover or backside, just the name.

Shigeo assumed Ritsu was using it for schoolwork, and knowing how his younger brother liked to keep his room organized, Shigeo flipped through the journal to get a good idea of what it was - then he could neatly put it back into Ritsu's array of books where it belonged.

He wasn't expecting this.

Flipping through it quickly, he landed on an oddly personal page filled with broody thoughts and complaints. Shigeo flipped to another, then another, then another, it was becoming pretty apparent this was something Shigeo shouldn't be seeing.

He was about to close the book before a particular name caught his attention, or, well, a nickname.

Teruki Hanazawa, or in this case just 'Teru-san'.

Hearts surrounded the name, and Shigeo couldn't help but continue reading.

There were pages upon pages about the author swooning over Teruki. Sometimes he even seemed to hate him, but Ritsu could not be more abundantly clear about his crush on the haystack.

Shigeo's eyes flickered over the pages, forgetting about how he shouldn't be intruding on his younger brother's diary. Once the topic shifted away from Teruki, Shigeo snapped out of the trance, quickly closing the book.

He wasn't supposed to be reading this diary, it's private, it's Ritsu's. Yet, he did.

Shigeo quickly placed it back on the coffee table, rushing up the stairs and hiding in his room. This was a lot to process.

Ritsu had a crush on Teruki Hanazawa. Shigeo's friend, the same person Shigeo had a crush on as well.

This was too much for him.

Surrounded by the guilt of reading Ritsu's diary and the newfound information that Teru was the subject of both the Kageyama sibling interests, Shigeo opted to hide under the covers of his bedsheets.

Calming down, Shigeo took the opportunity to think for a while.

Okay, so, Ritsu had a crush on Hanazawa. That's fine, right? Totally not a big deal, Ritsu can like who he likes.

But, he likes Teru, too! He doesn't want Ritsu to like Teru as well!

On second thought, that sounds selfish and possessive.

Shigeo likes Teru. Ritsu likes Teru. Ritsu CAN like Teru, but Shigeo doesn't want that. Shigeo wants to be the only person who likes Teru. He's been doing well so far regarding the various girls at Black Vinegar Middle School, though it may have just been because he didn't know those girls - and Teru didn't that well either.

But, they both know Ritsu. Why couldn't Ritsu have just gotten a crush on someone else? Why did it have to be Hanazawa? Shigeo stands no chance against Ritsu, he's average, while Ritsu is perfect. There's no way Hanazawa would choose him over his brother.

Shigeo really, REALLY doesn't want Ritsu liking Teruki, if only there was a way to make Ritsu lose feelings.

He quickly shoved the thoughts of sabotaging Ritsu and Teru's friendship with each other away. He couldn't do that to Ritsu. Shigeo didn't want to hurt his little brother.

A better idea came to mind though - what if he made Ritsu fall in love with someone else? That way no one would be hurt, and Ritsu wouldn't have a crush on Teruki anymore.

Yeah, yeah that would work. It's a happy ending for everyone. Hey, isn't Ritsu out with Suzuki? He could try and set those two up. It'll be fine.

Shigeo didn't want to think of this any longer and opted to just rest in his bed.

Yeah, it should be fine. Shigeo has a better chance at having his happily ever after with Teru, and Ritsu wouldn't be heartbroken over it. Everyone would be happy, right? Right?

Slowly falling into a slumber, Shigeo decided that the specifics of the plan would have to come later, and the realization that this plan was formulated entirely because of Shigeo's selfishness? Well, that would come never.

Shigeo Kageyama wanted Teruki Hanazawa all to himself.

Notes:

i want to contribute to the riteru tag more, and although this really isn't riteru, i think it works.

i'll probably make an actual riteru fic eventually
