Fish inside a bird cage

Summary:

Oakleys stuck in a cage I guess

Chapter 1: Not a great way to start

Chapter Text

Two seconds.

He relaxed for two seconds. That’s all it took for everything to fall apart.

He had had everything he wanted. Peace.

But peace had never been in Oakleys nature and that wouldn’t change now.

Oakley look down at his mutilated arm bent in the wrong direction blood pouring out bone exposed and muttered angrily

“Screw it I tried to be normal I really did but I suppose that’ll never be enough”

Pushing himself up with his good arm he sits on his butt in the cold floor of the dungeon he was being kept in.

Gripping the broken arm he takes a breath and yanks it back into place, his arm giving a skweltch as he did so.

“Good enough”

I pitiful baa startles Oakly out of his inner lament over what had happened.

“Oh James you're still here” Oakley said a little shocked the small sheep was here.

“At least I’ll have some company”

“Baaaaa” James comes over and sits in Oakleys lap his wool warming his bear chest.

“Me and you just like old times huh”

“Baaaa” James gently head butts Oakley.

“Yeah I’m a bit hungry too” he sighs. ”I don’t know if I’ll be fed down here, the last place I was kept we wouldn’t be fed for days sometimes.”

Just thinking about food made Oakleys stomach rumble.

Hungerly glancing at James Oakleys fingers start to extend into claws and his smile extends up and his teeth sharpen.

James bleated worriedly backing out of Oakleys lap and trotting into the corner away from him.

“Oh don’t worry James nothing will hurt you while I’m here”

Oakley stalkes closer to James, his limbs becoming a little to long his normally deep blue eyes changing to an endless black

“Won’t hurt a bit”

Oakleys jaw unhinges

———

“Well that should last me a while”

Blood covered the walls, the smell of decay poignant in the air.

Feeling satisfied for the moment he could finally actually focus on his surroundings.

A single metal door was all that was between Oakley and his love. But nothing was ever that easy or simple.

No, the celestials and devils had put far too much effort into keeping him contained.

But just to be sure.

Oakley slowly stood up and cautiously made his way to the door.

Tentatively he goes to place his hand on the door.

The second his skin makes contact with the metal the brand on the back of his neck burns making him cry out in pain

Quickly pulling his hand away and panting he sits back down in the middle of the room.

“So that won’t work then. Alright plan B”

Oakleys hands started to to elongate bones cracking to fit their new structure.

A ripping sound fills the otherwise silent chamber as Oakley reaches into his abdomen and rips out a rib.

“You will suffice” he says to the bone as the wound on his stomach knits itself back together.

Scanning the room for where he left the teeth and bones of James he quickly finds them in a pile he made beside the makeshift cot that’s in the room.

“Wonderful. Aster I hope to return to you soon. Though I apologise in advance for the things I may have to do to get back to you.”

Collecting all the various bones he starts fiddling with them.

With anger in his eyes and an empty heart he begins to plot the next steps to escape.

Anything for Aster the only angel he believes can be truly good and not egotistical and drunk on divinity.

—————-

The creek of the door opening brought Oakley back to reality from where he was dozing with his back against the wall.

“I’m glad to see your alright. I was worried when I heard the scream” The man in front of Oakley was dressed in sickeningly nice clothing, his long blond hair pulled into a low pony at the nape of his neck.

Though he wears a friendly smile Oakley knows the devil is anything but.

“Oh no witty come back. Such a shame and I was hoping to have to break you to stop them. Now your just disappointing me”

At that Oakley scoffs and rolls his eyes not able to hold it back.

“And there he is. The number one thorn in my side, you know I was so hopeful for you when I heard you became a sheep herder, but it seems not even innocents are safe from your wrath.” He clicks his tongue looking around the bloodstained room.

“You know as well as me that sacrifices are necessary for survival” Oakley couldn’t help but say

A smug grin came over the pale man. “And I was beginning to worry I kidnapped the wrong ‘human’” he said the end with an air of indignity as if the very thought of humans disgusted him.

“Well sadly your deductive skills are as sharp as ever.” Sighing trying to cut to the chase Oakley added “what do you want with me.”

“That is the thing isn’t it. I could just leave you down here and seal the exit but, well, that’s just no fun”

The man walked toward Oakley who stayed sitting.

Grabbing Oakley by the neck he smirks down and says “I think I’ll keep you as a pet perhaps. Let you run little errands for me. You always were so good at killing.”

Oakley looks up at him and spits right in the stupid man’s face “Never. Never again.”

Tutting he lets go of Oakleys throat and immediately yanks his hair.

Yelling out in shock and pain Oakley is lifted up by his hair.

“No, you're not obedient to be a pet. Not yet anyways”

Then he mutters some arcane words and Oakley feels weird, suddenly tired and drained. His eyes feel like they are weighted and he can’t keep them open any longer.

As the world starts to blur and the blonde man lets go of his hair Oakley falls to the ground. Head hitting the floor first full pain radiating through his skull. The last thing he hears before passing out is the man saying

“When you awaken I hope you’ll have a better attitude my dear princeling”

The dark finally takes Oakley away from reality.
