Misfortunes Love

Summary:

The tragedy of a photograph

Work Text:

It was the day we met. Your perfect smile was incomparable to even the brightest sunrises, but it came close.

As I run my fingers across the crisp edges, I remember the words that pop into my mind.

‘Come on. Your halo is out of the frame, and you know you’re too tall.’ I laugh softly as I recall the sharpness of your feathers. The wishes we made on them as they floated past us on the warm breeze. The scent it carried brought tears to my eyes, for it smelled like the remnants of a dream.

I remember the softness of your fingers as you tilted my head until the angle was perfect. The flash was blinding, but you were there to kiss it better, your laugh soft as a baby’s breath.

We sat and watched the sunset, our eyes reflecting the molten gold. I was breathless, lost in the infinity of those endless pools of possibilities. As all else melted away, the sky turned dark with that purple twilight.

‘Love, do you remember,’ I whisper to your ashes. ‘That was the day I saw you last.’
