You Love Us For It

Summary:

Bucky lives with the biggest idiots in the world, but he loves them anyway.

or, Peter being a genius, Steve being a great dad, and Bucky having no clue what the fuck is happening.

Notes:

this one-shot is literally just crack.

(thoughts are from those shower thoughts YouTube shorts where they say quotes that make no sense but at the same time make perfect sense.)

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

“Bear? What are you doing?” Steve asked Peter as he sat down next to his son on their couch.

“Hi Dad! I’m writing down my thoughts.” Peter replied, scribbling down something in his notebook.

“And what is our genius thinking about today?” Steve asked in that voice that only Dads could master, it was as if Peter was six and not fourteen.

(Peter might say he hated it when he did that, but Steve knew deep down that Peter loved it.)

At that moment, his husband entered the room from taking a shower.

“Hey Papa!” Peter called

“Hi крошка.” Bucky replied while walking over to their kitchen, presumably to make a shake.

“So Dad, I was wondering about random things. Like… this one!”

if you open up your head in the rain, is it called brainstorming?’ Peter read out loud.

“Pete, that makes no sen-“ Steve then abruptly stopped, thinking about the phrase. He raised his hand to his chin. “Huh. Actually, that makes perfect sense.”

Bucky stared at the two, confusion overwhelming him.

“Babe. What are you talking about? That makes no sense whatsoever.”

“Pa, it does makes sense. If you open up your head, it reveals your brain. And if you do that in a middle of a storm. Your brain is storming; brainstorming.”

“That- wait- hUh?” Bucky exclaimed, even more confused than he was earlier.

“I don’t know about you Buck, but that makes perfect sense to me.” Steve agreed.

“There’s this one too: ‘are orange’s named orange’s because orange’s are orange, or is orange named orange because orange’s are orange?’  Peter read, tracing his finger across the page.

“Hm… I wonder?” Steve replied

Peter looked up at his father in the kitchen, standing with his metal arm on top of the blender and his flesh arm on the granite counter,. He was staring at the two on the couch with unamused eyes. He seemed frozen in place.

“Dad…” Steve looked over as well. “I think we broke Papa…”

“I think we did, Bear.”

Bucky then stoped staring and walked over to the couch, sitting in between his son and his husband.

“You two are the biggest idiots in the world.” he said, coldly.

“My best quality!” Peter said, his voice high pitched. He laid his head down on his father’s chest.

“But you love us for it.” Steve added, smiling.

“Maybe.” Bucky replied

In truth, he really did.
