Kitchen Adventures

Summary:

When Dean awakes, alone, and the alarms in the bunker go off, he has no idea what awaits him in the kitchen.

Suptober - Day 15: Smoke

Notes:

Today's answer for the prompt is a lot shorter than my fics yesterday. And it's pure domestic fluff.

Not beta'd, sorry.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Still sleepy, Dean yawned and stretched himself. “Morning, sunshine,” he mumbled with a smile on his face. Rubbing his closed eyes, he turned around and felt around the bed, only to find it empty and cold.

“Huh?”

Confused, he sat up and looked around, but Cas was gone. The room was empty. Instinct took over and his goddamn anxiety peaked up. Cas was— Cas has—

“Shuddup!” he cried out and pressed his fingers against his temples. He fucking trusted Cas. There was no need to—

Suddenly, alarms blared and the lights blinked red and threatening.

His anxiety forgotten, Dean jumped out of the bed and grabbed his Colt from under his pillow. He dashed through the door, skittering through the corridor, and came to a halt in front of the kitchen door.

Dean listened up. Muttering and clattering sounded from inside. Cocking his gun, the hunter inside him took over, and he opened the door.

Cussing and fussing, Cas frantically wagged a kitchen towel in front of the smoke detector, obviously trying to dissolve the air.

One glance around the room brought Dean the answer. He sprinted towards the exhaust hood and switched it on.

Next, he placed a chair under the blaring smoke detector. Standing on it, he turned the detector off. At once, a pleasant silence filled the bunker.

“Thank you, Dean,” Cas greeted him. The angel tackled him as soon as Dean hopped down from the chair.

With Cas’ arms slung around him in a tight embrace and Cas’ face pressed against the crook of his neck, Dean chuckled.

“I’m sorry,” Cas mumbled.

“Hey, hey. It’s okay, sunshine,” Dean soothed him, brushing one hand over Cas’ back while burying the other in Cas’ hair. “Nothing’s happened. Whatcha doing here anyway?”

“It was supposed to be a surprise,” Cas admitted sheepishly. “I made you breakfast.”

Dean finally inhaled the aroma in the kitchen. It smelled heavenly. There were no traces of burned food or anything, only the delicious smell of fried bacon.

“Seems you’ve been successful, babe.” Walking them over towards the stove, Dean looked at the perfectly coloured bacon in the pan. He resisted the temptation to pinch one stripe and focused on Cas. “Just turn on the exhaust hood next time. Otherwise, the fuming grease will trigger the smoke detector.”

Cas pulled back and squinted at Dean, his head slightly tilted. “That’s all?”

“Yeah, that’s all, sweetheart.” Dean laughed, kissing Cas’ nose. “That sensor is a bitch. Triggered it several times myself, before I remembered the basics.”

“It’s still edible?” Cas sounded doubtful.

“Duh? Look at these beauties.” Dean snagged a stripe of bacon and happily munched it. “They’re fucking delicious. Want to have a taste?” Wiggling his eyebrows, Dean leaned forward and pecked Cas’ lips.

Cas’ tongue shot out and swept over Dean’s lips. A smile broke out on his face. “It’s delicious.”

“There’s more where this came from,” Dean mumbled and deepened the kiss, morning breath and all be damned.

After several minutes of lazy making out, a thought hit Dean and he pulled back. “Uh, where’s Sammy?”

“He left for a case,” Cas explained while chasing after Dean. “Eileen called earlier.”

“A case, huh?” Dean chuckled and welcomed Cas’ lips once again. “Which means the bunker is ours for the next few days.”

“Yes.” Cas nodded, pushing Dean back till he hit the counter.

Oof!

“Time enough for you to show me how to use the kitchen properly,” Cas whispered seductively in Dean’s ear, only to pull back and walk over to the stove, leaving Dean a shuddering mess.

Shaking his head, Dean grumbled, “You’re a menace, Cas.”

“You love me,” Cas deadpanned. “Hungry?”

“Hell, yes! I’m starving.”

“Good, because I made you breakfast. And then there’s more.”

“Promise?”

Dean didn’t need an answer. The grin on Cas’ face said it all.

Notes:

Hope you enjoyed.

If you ask me, I'll deny bacon is the reason why I always try to have a ladder readily available in the proximity of the smoke detector in my living room. It would be so much easier, if I only remembered to close the kitchen door.
