"No! Please, please, please!" Sky begged as Kan threw him violently onto the bed and pinned his neck into the duvet.
Kan laughed into Sky’s face, and stared coldly into Sky’s panicked eyes. In that instant, Sky truly saw Kan’s soul for the first time and it was horrifying. What had happened to the Kan he first met? Who is this Kan?
Sky vaguely felt pairs of hands tug at his clothes, move his limbs…then he felt prodding, poking…hitting, tearing, slamming…thrusting…but it was far away. He felt no pain, no fight, nothing.
SLAP
"Oh don’t fall asleep dear! We’ve barely started!!!" Kan mockingly said into Sky’s ear as he slapped Sky’s face repeatedly.
Sky jerked back to awareness, into a world of fire. Every atom of his body was burning with pain, a pain so complete and all-consuming that it belonged in the fires of hell. At least I’d be dead if this was hell.
He looked into the pairs of eyes above, some cold, some angry, some with a sliver of hesitation…and one pair of eyes that was proud. Kan was smugly looking down at Sky’s broken body as if it was a grotesque work of art.
"We’re gonna have fun tonight." Kan whispered.
Sky screamed.
"Sky! Sky!!!!! Sky wake up! Please wake up!!!!" Prapai yelled as he hugged Sky tightly.
Sky jolted awake, tears dripping down his face and breaths harsh and desperate.
"Sky! Are you ok?" Prapai worriedly asked. He smoothed Sky’s hair, and gently cradled Sky in his arms. "I’m sorry for yelling at you to wake up. You were thrashing and screaming in your sleep and I couldn’t bear to hear you like that. You had a bad dream?"
"No…it wasn’t a dream…" Sky hesitated, looking into Prapai’s worried but gentle eyes. He’s not Kan. He won’t hurt me. He promised.
Prapai felt like he was being assessed…Sky was deciding. Sky looked like he wasn’t sure if he could say more, and Prapai’s heart skipped a beat. After all this time, he still hadn’t fully proven himself.
"Sky…you don’t have to tell me anything. You don’t owe me an explanation if you aren’t ready, ok? Don’t force yourself." Prapai said gently but firmly while tightening his hug. "I love you, Sky. I don’t know exactly what you’re afraid of, but I promise you’re safe with me. I’m here for you."
Sky looked up at Prapai, and saw the streams of tears flowing down his handsome face. Prapai…was crying? Oh my god, he’s crying for me?! Sky took a deep breath and was about to speak when the words just choked in his throat. He took another breath, and the words got stuck even more.
Calm down, Sky. He’s Prapai. He said he loves you. He’s shown you for months that he loves you. He’s been here for you. He made models for you. He bought food for you. He bought sunflowers for you. He…
Prapai looked down and saw the internal battle in Sky’s eyes and leaned in to whisper, "Darling…my love…it’s ok. Relax…it’s ok. I love you." Prapai gently hugged Sky, hoping that the warmth of his arms could offer some comfort.
Eventually, Sky’s breathing calmed and his eyes cleared. He had decided.
"My ex boyfriend gang-raped me with his friends. It wasn’t a bad dream…it was a memory. I guess the screams just slipped through…I’m sorry. I’m sorry for scaring you."
Prapai became very very still. He clenched his hands, and took deep breaths. He was absolutely livid. Someone had hurt his Sky! He wanted to find that evil bastard and tear him limb from limb.
But no, no. No. Sky must come first. Sky…Sky, who just apologized?! To him?
"Please don’t apologize, Sky. You haven’t done anything wrong." Prapai begged Sky. "I’m so so sorry for your pain. I wish I could take it from you."
Sky sniffled, and looked up at Prapai’s pleading face. He slowly raised his hand to Prapai’s cheek, wiping tears. Prapai leaned into his gentle touch.
"You’ve already helped me so much…more than I think you know." Sky whispered. "I had lost all hope for love after that. I had decided that my life would be work and nothing more than friendship. And maybe sex. But, to me, love was dead."
"…It probably didn’t help when I took you home that first night after the race, did it?" Prapai asked hesitantly.
Sky’s eye dropped briefly, then raised back up almost immediately. But Prapai saw it, saw how Sky’s eyes dimmed when he looked down.
"Honestly…no. That didn’t help…but that’s not on you! I was the one who offered."
"But I was the one who took the offer. I didn’t question it…I gladly took advantage of your offer."
Sky was silent for a moment, not sure how to respond. He couldn’t deny the sadness he remembered from that night after the rounds of pleasure. He could still remember how empty he felt in the lobby afterwards. If it wasn’t for the transactional nature of the entire evening, it would’ve been fine, maybe even better than fine. Prapai was considerate and kind…not rough, and made sure Sky enjoyed plenty of pleasure.
Sky reached out with his trembling arms for a hug and hummed into Prapai’s chest.
"I’m sorry. I’m sorry things started like that for us." Prapai earnestly said while he returned the embrace. "I didn’t love you then…but I love you now. I’ve loved you for some time now."
"I know." Sky murmured, smiling lightly. He believed Prapai now. Prapai even cried for him…Prapai didn’t mock him, didn’t question him…Prapai hugged him and gave him his love.
"I love you, Prapai. Thank you for being here." Sky whispered.
With tears on both their faces and quiet murmurs, Prapai and Sky shared the most tender and gentle of kisses and drifted back to sleep.
