since all that had happened, devon had been having nightmares constantly.
the death of their mother, his kidnapping, the explosion and the death of his best friend.
devon always woke up in the middle of the night gasping for air, sweating cold and in despair.
and now that he and jake were roommates, they felt ashamed when they had nightmares.
what was weird was that jake never woke up when devon had a nightmare, jake must be some kind of heavy sleeper.
it wasn't embarrassing to have nightmares, that was normal, but devon didn't feel the same way.
and the nightmares were always the same:
started with chucky jumping on his mother, rolling around and making her dizzy. then it switched to when nica!chucky revealed herself to them and hit them with the teaser, all of devon's memories of that house popped up in his dream. over and over.
started with a normal dream and ended in a nightmare.
and what woke him this time was the sound of their mother's neck breaking.
devon gasped on his own breath, causing him to get up and sit on the bed, causing ragged breathing to catch chucky's attention, who was tied to the chair.
devon looked around to try to recognize if he wasn't in that house, tied up like in the nightmare.
he noticed that his hands were shaking and that their breathing was louder than normal.
and that woke jake, who looked worried and bewildered at devon. he went to their bed to try to calm down.
"dev, dev, whats wrong??" jake asked, sitting up in bed and holding devon's hands calmly.
"n-nothing.... it was just - it was a nightmare..." devon said, trying to catch his breath.
"Hey, here with me, okay?" jake replied, making a move for him and devon to breathe together, wanting them to calm down.
the two breathed together, and in a few seconds devon's breathing was normal and it wasn't that loud.
"i didn't wanted to woke u up, im s-"
"shh, shh, it's okay. it happens to everyone, no need to apologize." the curly said caressing devon's face.
the two were silent for a few minutes until they realized that chucky was looking at them.
"what are you looking at, dickhead?" jake asked, causing chucky to quickly turn to the left.
devon chuckled weakly.
"you ok now?"
"I don't know... sorry for waking you up. sometimes i just... have these nightmares that are about... what happened." devon replied as he held jakes hand for comfort.
"i know how it's like..." jake said as he moved closer to devon, pressing their foreheads together. both closed their eyes.
they were silent, just enjoying each others company.
"sleep with me?"
"sure."
devon moved and lay down on the bed, waiting for jake to lie down beside them.
and jake did, lying down beside his partner, wrapping his waist and placing his chin on devon's shoulder, feeling them hold his hands, still shaking.
"i love you" jake whispered, giving devon a kiss on the cheek.
"love you too." devon replied in a whisper.
even if they didn't say, since he was falling asleep, he was finally feeling safe. safe close to jake, being held by him and the warmth of his body.
safe, for now.
