By Your Side

Summary:

Yang adores waking up to Blake curled in her arms. They're always so adorable, it's one of the few times they look truly at peace. Ears that always seem to be in motion, at ease. That mix of sharp and rounded features that Yang's been admiring since Beacon relaxed into a peaceful sleep.

The point is, waking up to Blake in her arms is one of the many highlights to Yang's day, since they started living together. So finding one side of the bed cold leaves her frowning. Sure sometimes Blake is up before her, but it's certainly a rarity.

Her partner would sleep through the day if it were up to them

Work Text:

Yang adores waking up to Blake curled in her arms. They're always so adorable, it's one of the few times they look truly at peace. Ears that always seem to be in motion, at ease. That mix of sharp and rounded features that Yang's been admiring since Beacon relaxed into a peaceful sleep.

The point is, waking up to Blake in her arms is one of the many highlights to Yang's day, since they started living together. So finding one side of the bed cold had her frowning. Sure sometimes Blake is up before her, but it's certainly a rarity.

Her partner would sleep through the day if it were up to them

So Yang decides to finally get up, shivering as her feet touch the chilled wooden floors. She'll have to talk to Blake about getting rugs or something, Vale gets cold in the winter.

She stretches with a groan, back cracking as she does. She grumbles, adjusting herself in her boxers before finally padding out to find Blake.

Yang spots them easy enough, standing in front of the sink, really her eyes are always on her partner, but who could blame her? Even right now, in something as simple as sweats and one of Yang's oversized t's, hair an absolute mess, they're stunning.

Yang slips her arms around Blake's waist, hooking her chin on their shoulder, "G'morning baby." Yang mutters, placing a quick kiss to Blake's cheek, "Who do I have the honor of being married to today? Wife, spouse, or husband?"

It's a daily occurrence, always checking in, seeing how Blake's feeling in the moment. Though it had changed slightly a few years ago, no longer was it a simple relationship, not when Yang had asked to marry them.

It's been so long and she still can't believe Blake said yes.

But then Blake spins, sharp eyes narrowed in on Yang, oh she fucked up somehow.

"You," And Blake jabs her chest with a finger, "have an enemy today because you didn't do the dishes." They say with another jab.

Yang's eyes widen, brows raising, oh she had forgotten about that. Still, she can't help but chuckle, which just makes Blake's eyes narrow further.

"First off, I got a little distracted by a certain someone practically ripping my close off when they walked through the door." Blake had come home frustrated from a rather stressful White Fang meeting yesterday, and Yang is usually that outlet. Not that she minds in the least. "Second, that was an amazing comeback, how long have you been holding onto that one?"

She knows the anger was never real the moment Blake's lips curl ever so slightly.

"Remember a few months ago? When you killed our plants-"

"Another accident might I add."

Blake rolls their eyes, but continues, "that's when I thought it up."

Yang hums, tilting her head with a lazy grin, "So I haven't made you mad since then?" She chuckles lightly, "Sounds like a win in my book."

"Watch it, or you'll be sleeping on the couch." Blake shoots back with no real venom, not as they reach up, arms wrapping around her neck.

Yang knows it's a bluff, but she also knows when to fold, "What if I cook dinner tonight and clean the dishes?"

Blake's ears flit, considering the proposition, "Your wife approves, but I think I want a massage too."

Yang just huffs a laugh, "That hardly sounds like a punishment." She'd take any chance she's given to touch Blake.

Blake hums, lips curling into that mischievous little grin, "That's because you don't know what I have planned." She all but purrs, fingers threading through Yang's hair before tugging lightly.

A quiet gasp falls from her lips as she stares down into burning eyes, ambers but a ring around blown pupils. "Don't you have a meeting in like an hour?" Yang argues weakly, hands falling to Blake's hips, pulling her closer.

Blake's mouth opens, a retort no doubt on her tongue, but something fuzzy winds between their legs and meows up at them, "Looks like Gambol's hungry." She chuckles, tiptoeing up for a quick kiss.

Yang can't help but smile against Blake's lips, huffing out a laugh, "You go get ready, I'll feed her."

Blake slips away with that happy smile on her face, one yang can't help but mirror, "I love you Yang."

"I love you too Blake." Maybe she looks ridiculously in love as Blake heads back to their room, she can't help it because she is. They've been through so many ups and downs, fears of rejection and acceptance, how could she not fall in love after all of that?

But, as much as she'd like to stare at the spot Blake disappeared to all day, the world keeps turning, and Gambol will not stop meowing until she's fed.

Yang thinks it's a pretty good way to spend her life.
