Lucy had no idea why she was still awake. It was 4am! Her exam was only a couple hours away, but for some reason she couldn’t get her damn brain to turn off.
It was at this moment of pure bewilderment when her phone lit up on her bedside table. It read: ‘Natsu’ on the screen. Lucy groaned.
“Yo! Lucy, you up?”
“Unfortunately.”, Lucy quickly replied.
“Awesome! Listen, I need help with preparation for our exam :P”, Lucy couldn’t believe what she just read, but considering that this is Natsu Dragneel, it’s pretty normal.
“Natsu… why are you awake at 4am?”, Sometimes she couldn’t handle Natsu’s seemingly endless energy.
“Why are YOU awake at 4am??”
“Answer the question Natsu.”, Lucy hadn’t had enough coffee to deal with Natsu’s thick-headed personality just yet.
“Well… I was about to hit the hay for the night when I remembered how much I needed to pass English :/”
“…”
“Lucy?”
“Can’t you bother someone else.”
“None else is awake at 4am :)”, It’s hard to argue with that logic.
“Fine, Natsu, I’ll help”, Lucy had to do something with her time and sleep was certainly out of the question.
“Great! Right… Which book were we studying again?”
This was unbelievable. “Have you even read 'Of Mice and Men’ Natsu?”
“Um…”
“HAVE YOU NOT READ THE BOOK?!”
“'No’ is the wrong answer isn’t it.”
Lucy quite literally smacked her forehead while reading this. “Okay… Just talk about foreshadowing throughout the book, with Lennie and the mice and Candy’s dog. Also mention George and Lennie’s strong bonds of friendship.”
“You’re a lifesaver Lucy :D”
“You’re lucky this is a mock exam and not the real thing”
“I’ll be sure to prepare for the real thing”, Lucy doubted this.
“Go to sleep Natsu”
“Shouldn’t I be the one telling you that?”
“Natsu!!”
After sending the text Lucy promptly smacked her phone back on her bedside table with enough force to shatter stone and rolled over in her bed.
But despite her effort to break the damn thing, the phone lit up again presenting 'Natsu’ on the screen.
If this was anyone else Lucy would have thrown her phone out the window but since this was her best friend, she gave in and checked her messages.
“Yeah, yeah, love you too ;)”
It was at this point when Lucy’s face turned as pink as Natsu’s hair. Even though she knew he was teasing her, it didn’t stop her heart from beating a little faster.
