Work Text:

Mirio sank into the ground and deactivated his quirk, preparing to repel himself out into the villain. He was intimately familiar with the sensation of overlapping with matter. He would only truly intersect for a single instant before being ejected, but he had felt it so many times before that it was normal, almost comfortable.

However, what he felt this time was not that.

Instead of a brief sensation before returning to the normal world, it felt as if his entire body was suddenly thrust into a rock tumbler. But then suddenly it was gone, replaced with the feeling of flying at high speed through the nothingness.

Suddenly, it stopped, reality coming back into focus around him. But instead of being in front of the villain, he was in an... office space? Had someone build an office space below the street? Surely that was against some sort of building code.

Ultimately, it didn't really matter. He could ask Sir about it later, but the villain was a more pressing issue. He leapt up, phasing himself out so he could go through the roof before phasing back in so he would be ejected to the surface.

Nothing. Not the "nothing" of no result, but a horrible, chilling Nothingness. A tiny primeval region at the back of his brain screaming that it was w r o n g that he should not be there that the Void was endless and dark and—

His eyes opened once more to the office space. He pushed himself onto shaky legs from the yellowed, musty carpet, his arm placed against the wall for support. The buzzing of the fluorescent lights seemed to mock him. Did you really think you could get away so easily?

But he's going to be a hero. Even if he's shaken, even if someone is interfering with his quirk, that won't stop him. If he walks in a consistent direction, it shouldn't take too long to find the end and make his way out. How large could this place possibly be?
