Work Text:
"Is there anybody listening? Eager words, are making me an awful mess."
"Wednesday!" comes the grating, sickening voice that she hates so much. Wednesday Addams hates, she detests such cheerful attitudes, or anything cheerful at all that should make life any less dull than it really needs to be.
Enter Enid Sinclair, embodiment of sunshine and cheer itself, in all it's disgusting "glory." So why doesn't Wednesday despise the her? Why doesn't she despise the way Enid smiles in her direction everytime she's in the general vacinity?
"Enid, your optimism is greatly opposed." and that's all she says. No threats, nothing more than a simple sentence. This is how Wednesday comes to the conclusion something is urgently wrong.
She thinks the situation can't get any worse, and she's wrong. How is she wrong, you may ask? Put simply, as she swivells in her desk chair, she finds herself starstruck by the dumb smile plastered onto Enid's face, finding it impossible to look at anything but her while she admires all of Enid's features.
what on earth.
"..nesday, WEDNESDAY!" and that, my friends, is what it takes for Wednesday to realise she's been so distracted by Enid, 15 minutes have passed and she hadn't caught a lick of what the other girl had said. "Are you even listening to me?" she asks in her disgustingly sweet voice, whining for attention.
Wednesday Addams never fumbles her words, she is articulated and anything below that standard is simply unacceptable. So when that happens, such as right in this very moment, she finds it troublingly difficult to form a coherrent sentence as her brain is running 100 miles an hour, trying to find an actually believable excuse within herself.
What Wednesday really wants to say is, "Enid, I find myself so enraptured by the way the light reflects off your features so gorgeously that no, I did not infact hear a word of what you said, but if it safisfied you I would listen time and time again. Anything you want, if you should so ask it will be yours, cara mia." Except she doesn't.
Wednesday Friday Addams will never fall in love, much less with an angel of light and all things good in the world, disguised as a measly werewolf with eye wretching painted nails and ridiculous knitted sweaters. Never.
