Colby's Pov:
I facetimed Jake, this was getting way too much. I would call Sam but he was out with Elton and Corey at a haunted location. I didn't tell Sam I was going to investigate by myself or at all. I knew if I did he would cancel plans to come with me, ever since me and him have started dating he has started becoming more protective. I told Jake I was investigating, but not that I was by myself. I wanted to experience activity by myself but that was a mistake.
Jake: Hey bro
Colby: Hey man
I say with worriedness. He notices.
Jake: What's going on?
Colby: I'm at this haunted cabin in the woods investigating
Jake: Are you alone?
Colby: Yeah
His face immediately turns to worry and anger.
Jake: Why?
Colby: I wanted to experience stuff by myself
Jake: Ok. What's happened?
Colby: A bunch of scary stuff
Jake: Ok
We talked for a few minutes
Colby: I'm going to head to bed-
I hear a thud coming from downstairs
Jake: What's going on!?
Colby: There was a thud from downstairs
Jake: Be careful brother
Colby: I will bro
As soon as I say that the lamp falls over and crashes
Jake: Colby what is going on!? Are you ok?
Before I can reply my phone cuts out and shuts down.
Sam's Pov:
I was out investigating with Elton and Corey. We were getting a lot of activity. We decided to do the Estes Method. Corey agreed after 3 minutes of convincing to go under. Elton wanted to ask the first question.
Elton: Are you going to hurt someone?
Sam: Dude what is wrong with you?
Elton just shrugs his shoulders
Corey: Yes
My face falls
Elton: Who?
Corey: Colby Brock
Corey immediately takes the headphones and blindfold off.
Corey: Dude after I said that there was a scream then silence
Just then I get a call from Jake. I accepted the call.
Sam: Hey dude is Colby with you?
Jake: No
My face turns to worry
Sam: Wait what! What do you mean he's not with you?
Elton and Corey look at me with concern
Jake: Sam
Sam: Yes Jake
Jake: I need you to remain calm for a minute
Sam: What's going on Jake
I start getting frustrated
Jake: Colby just called me and told me he's investigating in a cabin in the woods
Sam: WHAT!
I yell and I feel anger and concern well up inside me
Jake: But um
Sam: Spit it out Jake
Jake: He may be by himself?
Sam: ARE YOU KIDDING ME!
Jake: That's not it though
Sam: what else
Jake: we were talking and then he heard a thud from downstairs and then he said he was going to go to bed but then...well
Sam:Jake
I say warningly
Jake: Something fell and shattered then the call ended
Sam: WHAT!!
Jake: Did you not know?
Sam: NO
Jake: oh. Why did you freak out that he wasn't with me
Sam: We were doing the estes method and Elton asked if they were going to hurt someone and they said yes then Elton asked who and it said Colby and Corey said there was a high pitched scream then nothing.
Jake: Oh no
Sam: I'll try to call him if that doesn't work I'll see if he has his location on and go over there.
Jake: Ok call me when you have information
Sam: I will bye
I end the call
Elton: Sam what's going on?
Sam: Colby went investigating by himself and apparently he heard a thud and then something fell and broke and the call ended.
Corey: And the Spirit box said that it was going to hurt him and he's by himself!
Corey starts freaking out
Sam: I'm going to call him and if he doesn't answer then I'll see if he has his location on
I started calling Colby. It rings and rings then goes to voicemail. I ended the call.
Sam: He didn't pick up
I go on maps and see that he doesn't have his location on
Sam: Goddangit!
Elton: What?
Sam: He doesn't have his location on
Elton: Wait a minute
Sam: what
Elton: I think I know where he is. Let's go!
We get into the car. I get into the passenger seat and Corey gets in the back.
Elton: He asked me a couple of days ago if I knew any good spots for investigating and I told him one not thinking anything about it.
Elton starts speeding. I slowly start panicking. Elton notices.
Elton: He'll be ok he knows how to handle himself
Sam: I hope you're right
Elton: Of course I'm right
Corey: Yeah Sam you'll soon have your boyfriend wrapped up in your arms
Sam: Yeah after I kill him
They laugh a bit and so do I. Elton is right, we'll get there and Colby will be fine, probably sleeping peacefully and unharmed.
I was so wrong.
Colby's Pov:
My phone was cut off! Shit! I grabbed my flashlight and assessed the damage of the lamp. Glass was everywhere, the main part was snapped in half, and the shade was ripped at the edges. This is bad, really bad. That's when I felt something grab me by the legs and start dragging me across the room. I felt searing pain go down my leg like claws digging into my skin. I was thrown into the wall and I heard a sickening crack. Something started squeezing my neck, making it hard to breathe. I was thrown again this time into the dresser. My head hits the corner and I hear another crack from a different part of my body. Black spots began to fill my vision. Darkness.
Jake's Pov:
After the call ended with Sam I began to panic. I knew something was up with Colby. I should have been more suspicious of him leaving, only saying that he was investigating. Aaron came home not too long after the call with Sam and I told him everything. I was trying to keep my mind off of things, trying to keep the bad thoughts from my mind. Colby is probably fine and I'm just overreacting, but just in case I'll keep my phone by me at all times.
Elton's Pov:
We were getting close to the location and I could see Sam start panicking again. I felt responsible for Sam and Colby like their Uncle. Guilt was drowning my body, I told Colby this place and now he might be in serious trouble. I try to keep calm for Sam, but I'm terrified. I took a right turn and I saw the cabin in the distance. Once we were closer I saw Colby's car parked right outside the front door, so I pulled up behind his car. Sam jumps out of the car and so does Corey. When I get out I notice how quiet it is.
Corey: It's so quiet
Sam: I know, it's super creepy
I notice the downstairs lights are on but the attic/ upstairs lights are off. We open the front door and look around a bit, hoping that Colby was in one of the rooms. He wasn't. At this point Sam is more jumpy and panicked. We go back outside and I go first up the steps. I open the trap door and I'm assaulted by the smell of blood, making me want to gag. I crawl in and the smell intensifies. Sam is next in and he reacts the same way as I did. Corey gets near the door but backs away immediately.
Corey: I can't the smell is to bad, I'll keep the car started
I throw the keys to Corey and he heads back down the steps.
Elton: Colby?
I start shining the flashlight on the ground, droplets of blood litter the floor.
Sam: Oh my God
Elton: Colby?!
Colby: Mm
I hear a faint groan. I walked over to where I heard the sound.
Sam: Colby?
Colby: S-Sam?
I point the flashlight to my right and see Colby sitting on the ground, head leaning on the dresser.
Elton: Oh my God! Colby!
I rush to him and check to see what injuries he may have. Sam comes up to the side of me.
Sam: What happened!?
Colby: Dragged...thrown...mhmm
He starts closing his eyes. I hit him and his eyes opened wide.
Elton: Don't go to sleep!
Colby: S-Sorry
Elton: It's ok! Just stay awake for me bud
I start trying to find things to stop the bleeding, while Sam talks to Colby to keep him awake.
Sam's Pov:
Elton is trying to find things to slow the bleeding down. There is a lot of blood, but right now I need to focus on keeping my boyfriend awake. Unknowingly I start crying. Colby reaches his hand up and wipes my tears away gently.
Colby: D-Don't cry
He puts his hand on the side of my face and I lean into it.
Sam: Why didn't you tell me you were doing this?
Colby: I-I didn't w-want you to worry
Sam: Well that didn't work well
I start laughing a bit and so does he, but he starts coughing and blood starts forming around his mouth.
Sam: Hey hey just breathe
Elton came back with cloth and bandages. He starts wrapping and bandaging Colby's more major wounds. Colby starts crying and squirming a bit.
Sam: Hey it's ok, it'll be ok
Colby: I-It hurts
Sam: I know baby I know
Elton: I've done what I can we need to get him to the car
Sam:Ok
Elton picks Colby up bridal style. I head over to the trapdoor and open it up so he can get through. Once they're out I go down the steps and wait for him. I hop in the back and Elton lays Colby down in the back with me. Colby's head on my lap. Elton gets in the driver's seat. Corey turns around and sees Colby's condition, his eyes widened in shock.
Corey: What happened?!
Elton: Not really sure but could you pull up directions to the closest hospital
Corey: Y-yeah sure
Elton: Sam make sure he stays awake
Sam: Of course
We get on the road and Elton starts going way past the speed limit, but that's not my concern.
Colby:I-I'm s-sorry
Sam: Why are you sorry?
Colby: Y-You were busy
Sam: I don't care you're more important
Elton: We're here!
I looked up and sure enough we were. I think we got here way more quicker than we were supposed to. Elton pulls up near the door and gets out and picks up Colby from the back. He rushes in and Corey gets in the driver's seat to find a parking spot.
Corey: How are you holding up?
Sam: I'm scared out of my mind!
Corey: That's what I expected
We get out of the car and Corey comes around the car and gives me a hug. I always saw Elton and Corey as me and Colby's uncle and aunt since me and Colby are the youngest. We walk inside and go to the waiting room. Corey sits next to a phased out Elton. While I call Jake, pacing in the waiting room. This is going to be a long emotional night.
Corey's Pov:
The moment I smelled blood I knew it was bad, but I didn't think it was this bad. Seeing someone I consider my nephew being carried out of the cabin, struggling to keep his eyes open freaked me out. When me and Elton first met Sam and Colby we made a silent agreement to protect them. The moment I heard Colbys name on the spirit box I knew something was terribly wrong, I never thought that I would be in a waiting room because of that. I mean you know something is seriously wrong if even Elton is panicking. This was the longest moment of my entire life. Minutes felt like hours, hours felt like days. One thing was on my mind, Sam and Colby are never leaving my sights again.
Elton's Pov:
Once I pulled up to the hospital doors my mind was set on one thing, get my nephew to a doctor. Everything was a blur, one moment I had Colby in my arms the next doctors were rushing him into surgery. Still in a daze I sit in the waiting room not noticing Corey sitting next to me. Corey taps me on the shoulder, startling me a bit. I notice Sam is calling Jake.
Corey: Hey
Elton: Hey
Corey can tell that something is bothering me.
Corey: What's wrong?
Elton: This is all my fault
Corey: How is this your fault?
Elton: I told him that location. I didn't even ask or think anything of it.
Corey: Hey it's ok. How could you even know that this would happen? No one could predict this.
Elton: I know, it's just I feel responsible for Sam and Colby.
Corey: I know you do and so do I but we can't protect them forever
Elton: I know
Sam gets off the phone with Jake and is still pacing, tears slowly coming down his face. I grab ahold of his hand and he turns to look at me. Tears rushed down his face even faster. I stand up and hug him.
Elton: It's ok it's all going to be ok
Sam: You don't know that
Elton: You're right but I know Colby and he is too stubborn to give up
That brings a slight smile to his face.
Elton: Pacing won't do you or Colby any good so why don't we sit down and wait till a doctor comes ok?
He nods and he sits down between me and Corey. His head on Corey's shoulder.
Corey: Why don't you try and get some sleep ok?
Sam: Ok
Not too long later Sam falls asleep.
1 hour later
Doctor: Friends and Family of Cole Brock?
Jake's Pov:
I was watching some random TV show with Aaron when I got a call from Sam. I immediately jump up and accept the call, I put it on speaker so Aaron can hear too.
Jake: What's going on? Is Colby ok?
Sam: No he's not ok
I can tell he has been crying. That gets me even more worried.
Jake: What do you mean he's not ok?
Sam: We found him in the cabin, he was severely injured so we brought him to a hospital so now we're just waiting for any news. I thought you should know.
Jake: Thanks brother. Text me the address of the hospital and me and Aaron will head over and contact some of the others.
Sam: Of course. I just texted you the address. I should probably go in case any news comes. See you soon.
Jake: See ya
The call ends and me and Aaron rush to my car. I plug in the address into google maps, while Aaron calls some of the others. I speed to the hospital and get there quicker than I was supposed to. We get out of the car and head into the waiting room just in time to hear a doctor say.
Doctor: Friends and Family of Cole Brock?
Colby's Pov:
I hear a loud beeping noise as I slowly regain consciousness. I slowly open my eyes but immediately shut them after they're met with a bright blinding light. I slowly start opening my eyes again, this time keeping them open. Memories from the past few hours start hitting me, being scared and calling Jake, the lamp breaking, getting thrown across the room. I notice that there is something on my face and in my throat making it hard to breathe. I start panicking.The beeping starts getting faster then somebody grabs my hand and I look over to see Sam.
Sam: Hey it's ok, it's ok you're safe
I start calming down and so does the beeping.
Sam: That's it, everything is just fine
Sam: I'm going to get the nurse. I'll be right back ok?
All I can do is nod my head. He stands up and kisses my forehead and walks out of the room. Once he's gone I look around the room and notice Elton and Corey sleeping. Sam comes back with a nurse. The nurse checks my vitals then turns to look at me.
Nurse: Good morning Colby! I'm going to take out the oxygen mask so sit still. It's going to be a little uncomfortable.
She slowly takes the oxygen mask out and it feels like my throat is getting ripped apart. Sam notices my discomfort and holds my hand. Once the oxygen mask is out I cough a couple of times which rattles my body with pain.
Nurse: I'm going to put you on stronger pain meds for a little bit so I'll be right back with those.
Sam: Thanks
Nurse: Yeah no problem.
The nurse leaves.
Sam: How do you feel?
Colby: Like hell
Sam: Makes sense you do have a severe concussion, two broken ribs, a broken leg, and 3 stitches
Elton: And a very angry aunt and uncle
Corey: Don't forget an angry boyfriend too!
I look around and all three of them have an angry face, but I can see fear in their eyes.
Colby: I'm sorry
Guilt was all I felt and I started crying, Sam rushed to my side and wiped my tears away. Elton was still angry but guilt had overcome him and Corey.
Sam: It's ok, I didn't mean to make you cry I've just been so worried.
Colby: I'm sorry, I'm so sorry
Sam: It's ok. Hey there are some people who really want to see you, I'll go tell them you're up.
Colby: ok
Soon a bunch of people we know rushed into the room and bombarded me with questions.
Sam's Pov:
I wake up to someone shaking me.
Corey: Hey sorry to wake you but the doctor came.
I perked up and noticed that Jake and Aaron had arrived.
Doctor: Is anyone here his parents?
I look down at the floor.
Elton: His parents are not longer part of his life
I remember the day his parents disowned him. We had gone down to Kansas for our one year anniversary and he wanted to come out to his parents, but his parents didn't accept him and told him he was going to go to hell. I came back to reality, noticing the doctor was talking.
Doctor: Colby has a severe concussion and had to get three stitches in head due to a major cut. Two of ribs are broken and his right leg was broken in two places. There are long cuts going down his leg but it's nothing super serious. His right lung was punctured due to one of his broken ribs so we had to fix that.
Elton: Thank you doctor. Are we allowed to see him?
Doctor: Yes if you follow me to his room, he probably is still sleeping.
Jake: You guys go ahead, we will wait for the others.
Sam: Ok
We followed the doctor into Colby's room. It was small with white walls and ceiling, one chair by the bed and two others against the wall. I sat down in the chair by the bed and grabbed Colby's hand in mine. Corey and Elton sat in the other two chairs.
Doctor: Once Colby wakes up we want to keep him here for a day or two and then he'll be released and he'll have to be in a wheelchair for about a month to allow his leg and ribs to heal. He is not allowed to do any strenuous activity due to his lung that was punctured for about two months, but he should make a full recovery!
Me, Elton, and Corey glance at each other knowing that Colby is not going to like the wheelchair part.
Elton: Thank you for the information
Doctor: Of course, once he wakes up get a nurse from the desk so they can take out his oxygen mask.
Corey: Ok, thanks again.
Doctor: Of course, that's what I'm here for.
He smiled at us and then left.
Sam: You two should get some sleep. I'll go let the others know what is happening
Elton: ok
I left the room and saw that a bunch of people I knew were all anxiously sitting in the waiting room. When they saw me they looked at me and I could feel the air thicken.
Sam: Colby is going to be ok
The air thinned and I could hear sighs of relief. I told everyone his injuries, gasps were heard across the room, and few tears were shed. I headed back to the room to see Elton and Corey asleep, Corey's head on Elton's shoulder.
Elton's Pov:
Thank the Heavens that Colby is going to be ok. Once the doctor told us I released my breath that I didn't realize that I was holding. We walked into the hospital room and the sight of Colby made my heart break. He was so pale and his breathing was shallow, tubes sticking into different parts of his body you would think he was dead. Me and Corey sat down in the chairs farthest from the bed so Sam could be near his boyfriend. Sam told us that he would tell the others and we should get some sleep and it was at that moment that I felt how hard it was to keep my eyes open, so I agreed. Once Sam left Corey leaned his head on my shoulder and whispered.
Corey: I told you he would be ok, everything is going to be just fine
Elton: Yeah it will
I allowed myself to slip off into a deep sleep knowing my nephew is safe and is fine. I swear one day that kid is going to give me a heart attack. With that my mind went blank and I feel into a dreamless sleep.
