Jungha remembers the first time she met Seokjin, her brother Yoongi had brought him to their apartment. She had moved with him since she had just started university. Jungha couldn’t forget their first meeting. She had a bunch of books in her hand and her hair had gotten loose from the little clip she had. It was literally blinding her but then cold, thin fingers had tucked her hair behind her ears making a shiver run down her spine.
When she managed to focus on her savior Jungha came face to face with the most handsome man she had ever seen. She would have dropped all her books then if it wasn’t for Seokjin to take them away and put them on the counter. After formal introductions done by Yoongi who for the life of it couldn't figure out why both his sister and best friend looked like tomatoes Jungha found herself unable to stop thinking of Seokjin.
It didn’t help that Seokjin made it a point to show up anywhere and everywhere he knew Jungha would be. They finally confessed their liking for each other at their friend Hoseok’s party when Seokjin almost got into a fight with a guy for excessively flirting with Jungha and not taking no for an answer when she didn’t want to dance. They professed their love for each other on Chuseok and had their first kiss at Jimin’s birthday party.
They were always together. Like those couples that you just know are made for eachother. Not the cringey kind but the kind that makes the spectators heart warm. They first slept together sometime around Christmas when the cold outside was countered by the heat between their bodies. Seokjin promised Jungha that he would marry her someday and Jungha promised him that she would always wait.
Seokjin tried auditioning for an entertainment company later that year and was instantly selected to be an idol. It was hard but they still were together. Everyone at the company loved Jungha. The decision was that of course on debut Jungha’s existence would be kept a secret. It was okay. Seokjin was steadily gaining fame. Their love was stronger than ever but then tragedy struck.
Seokjin had an international concert and on the way back from the venue the car had met with an accident. No fatalities but Seokjin had a head injury. When he woke up he didn’t remember.
He didn’t remember Jungha, he didn’t remember their love, he didn’t remember their promises. Doctor’s had told Jungha that the blood clot in his brain was too dangerous to operate on and even if they did there was no proof that he would remember so she decided to walk away. As is the Seokjin she fell in love with wasn’t there anymore.
Seokjin didn’t forget music though. He played even better than before. Writing melancholic rock love songs that made him even more famous. People found beauty in the pain expressed in those songs and when asked why his lyrics were so sad Seokjin just said it's what his heart told him to write. Jungha tried to stay away. She missed the first two shows after his comeback but then the third show was on their anniversary and her heart couldn’t stand it anymore.
When she made it to the venue Namjoon, Seokjin’s manager recognized her and even offered her a VIP pass but she didn’t want that. She wanted to be obscure, hidden, she didn’t want Seokjin to see her. After that she never missed a show. Namjoon had made sure there was always a ticket for her. She would usually be on the second floor, in the front, too far for Seokjin to see her but close enough for her to see his smile.
It had been 4 years already. They were both getting older. Jungha’s parents were starting the marriage talks and even though she knew it was pointless to wait her heart didn’t want her to break the promise she had made. That was until she saw Seokjin’s latest interview. There had been an incident at one of his last show outside Korea. Some structural issue and a member of the technical team was injured. He had come to reassure his fan’s that he was okay since rumors were rife that he was hurt too.
After the boring questions the host attempted to spice up the interview by asking about Seokjin’s love life and when asked if he had someone special in his life he had said “Yes, my dream girl” and then proceeded to be coy about the topic and the interview ended. Jungha didn’t know how long she stared at the blank screen neither did she know when the tears had begun to fall. When Yoongi finally shook her out of her daze she called her parents and agreed to the last proposal.
She agreed to marry her best friend Taehyung. Not because she loved him but because she knew he didn’t expect her to love him. He was in love with Jimin and they couldn’t get together because of their families. Maybe they would all leave and settle somewhere else where Taehyung and Jimin could be happy together and Jungha could be happy with her memories.
She debated going for Seokjin’s show, she had the ticket in her hand and could rip it apart but decided to go one last time. She watched from her usual spot as he had the time of his life, singing, dancing, joking with his fans, playing with the confetti gun. He’d finished the show and was on the platform that descended to the bottom of the stage. That’s when he looked up and their eyes met. He didn’t stop looking at her till he was completely under.
Jungha just shook her head telling herself that there's no way he saw her with all the lights and all the lasers and fireworks there's no way he would have noticed her. She kept telling herself that as he went out through the special exit Namjoon made her go through. One without any crowds since he knew of her aversion to large crowds.
She was almost out when she heard “Hey! Stop!” she turned around to see Seokjin running straight at her, he stopped right in front of her and she didn’t know how to react. And for what happened next she definitely didn’t know how to react because she was being kissed. Seokjin was kissing her. The same way as before, the same intensity as before, the same passion as before.
She pushed him away, heart too fragile to hope “Seokjin-ssi what the hell is wrong with you? You don’t kiss anyone like that!” she said with angry tears. How dare the universe play with her like this. “I'm not kissing anyone, I'm kissing you!” Seokjin said, still trying to catch his breath. “What?” Jungha asked bewildered “I'm kissing my dream girl. The one I see in my dreams every night. The same big eyes, the same soft skin, the same pink lips, the same pretty mole, the same bunny teeth.” Seokjin said, almost kissing her again.
Jungha didn’t know which angel had decided to mess with her for fun so she just said “You got the wrong girl, I'm engaged to someone else.” and began walking away but then she heard “I promised I would marry you. You promised you would always wait.”
Jungha spun around so fast she would have fallen if Seokjin hadn’t caught her. “Yeobo, is this really you?” she asked, crying so hard her chest hurt. “It is, my agi-ah” Seokjin replied, holding her close, kissing her face anywhere he could before taking her lips again in a kiss so deep it ended with both of them being wrapped around each other like vines.
At the end of the corridor 5 men cried in happiness as they saw the couple love each other again. Turns out there was an accident but a different type. Seokjin had bumped his head against the bathroom sink when he went to pick something and that had somehow dislodged the blood clot bringing the memories of Jungha back to his head but she’d never left his heart. Who else was it writing all those sad songs for?
Seokjin didn’t risk anything after that. He paid for Taehyung and Jimin to leave Korea and settle abroad. He announced Jungha as his dream girl and they got married the next month. There wasn’t a day they weren’t together, there wasn’t an hour they weren’t holding each other, there wasn’t a minute they weren’t kissing, there wasn’t a second they didn’t love each other.
After 6 months when some talk show host asked Seokjin if it was too early for him to be settling down Seokjin said “No, it’s already too late. I've already lost enough not being with the love of my life” as the anchor smiled at him Seokjin mouthed “ I love you ” to his wife, his love, his Jungha who was standing behind the cameras, big smile on her face as she mouthed “ I love you too ” while cradling the bump where the proof of their love grew.
