I've got you, brother

Summary:

Just a small snippet of what I think the childhood of two certain brothers could have looked like.

Spoilers for the most recent lore (obviously) "Gold ink stains"

Warnings: hints at living on the road

[Title from: Brother by Kodaline]

Work Text:

Two children were sneaking through the streets of the small town as the sun set over the horizon.

The Oldest pointed at a stable, not that far from where they were hiding, their younger brother at the hand. "Rae. We can sleep there tonight. Just sneak in and in the morning we will be out. Like always."

But Rae shook his head. "I don't wanna sleep in stables tonight, Sherb"

"Well do you have a better Idea? We don't have enough money to rent a room"

But the younger of the two nodded eagerly and pulled out a pice of cloth. "Hold that to your eye"

Begrudgingly Sherbert did what they were asked. The white cloth becoming red with blood as they held it to their new ans bleeding purple eye.
Rae pulled them along to the nearest Inn. And walked over to the counter, sherbert being pulled along by their connected hands.

Behind the counter stood a friendly looking woman who looked surprised at the two children as big blue eyes looked back at her full of hope.

"Esuse me, ma'am." Mumbled Rae in a tone Sherbert had never heared from their brother. They also noted that he had started to speak with a speech impediment that he hadn't had in years.

Rae's eyes had started to water as he looked at the woman. "We. We lost our dad an- we don't have any money for food or a room. An- my broter is hurt"

The woman smiled warm. "Oh no you poor thing. You can sleep here tonight. If you go up the stairs and the first room to the left should be free and I can probably make you something to eat."

She looked up at Sherbert noticing the bloody rag they still had over their eye "Oh dear, you should have someone have a look at that."

Later, after they had eaten, the best food in weeks, and they were laying in bed, Sherbert turned to Rae who was already sleeping. They would never question the ideas of their brother.
