Chapter Text
The Addams family has always been known to be around strange creatures more than the typical outcast would wish to be. So it’s not a shock that Morticia and Gomez Addams were close with the only Hyde at nevermore in their year- or the whole school. Francoise Sylvanne —now Galpin. Throughout Nevermore, Morticia helped Francoise control and understand her Hyde properly, though never claiming her or becoming her master, feeling that wasn’t her place.
The group of three stayed close even after they graduated from nevermore. Now Francoise’s husband, Donovan Galpin, wasn’t thrilled about this. He still believed that Gomez killed Gates, but once the four of them sat down and Morticia and Gomez told the couple what truly happened that night, Donovan finally did (with some begging and sweet talk from his dear wife) let go of the grudge he held on the man.
Over the years, the two couples saw each other through tough times and the best time. Both included the pregnancy and birth of both women’s firstborn children. Francoise had her son, Tyler, six months before Morticia had her daughter, Wednesday.
The two babies grew up as close as possible, with Fran still living in Jericho and The Addams in New Jersey. Every weekend from when Tyler and Wednesday were two, Fran would take the train down to New Jersey, or Morticia would take the train up to Jericho.
The two children quickly grew close. Both were raised being taught exactly what Tyler and his mother were. Both mothers believed hiding a big part of their identity wasn’t right. Wednesday–given her dark nature was immediately intrigued by the boy’s darker side. Over the years, the two spend the weekends and summers together testing the Hyde– even though both were instructed not to mess with it.
So no one was shocked when Wednesday bonded with Tyler’s Hyde. It ran in the family, it seemed. Everyone was less shocked that Wednesday was the one to unlock and become the master of Tyler’s Hyde. The Hyde knew Wednesday it’s whole life. It trusted her with its life. It just made sense. Fran was relieved that she knew her son was in the hands of someone she knew wouldn’t use or hurt him in ways she had been hurt before.
The winter before the two freshman years of high school, Wednesday suddenly felt a sickening twist of pain and overwhelming grief from Tyler through their bond. Not even an hour later, the Addams received a grief-stricken phone call from Donovan. Fran had died. He could barely get the words out to tell Morticia what had happened. She could hear Tyler’s sobs in the background. The poor boy was always closest to his mother. The whole Addams family took the train up to Jericho for the funeral. Usually, Wednesday loved funerals, but even she had to admit, this wasn’t one she was looking forward to.
The funeral was filled with things Wednesday usually loved to witness. Pain, agony, despair, but seeing Tyler feeling these emotions left a sour taste in her mouth. She could feel them through the bond and how much anguish, and pain Tyler was going through. He sat silently next to his father, watching his mother be lowered into the ground. Tears silently slipped down his face as his shoulder shook, trying to hold back the sobs that were scratching to be released. One of his father’s hands stayed firmly on Tyler’s back, occasionally rubbing his back for comfort.
After the funeral, Tyler was still sitting at his mother’s grave. His father tried to convince Tyler to head inside for the after-event and for something to eat, but the boy refused to budge. Sitting silently, staring at the grave, repeatedly rereading, “Francoise Sylvanne Galpin, Beloved mother, wife, and friend.”
Wednesday silently made her way to the other, staring at Tyler momentarily before sitting next to the boy. Tyler didn’t even glance over at the girl. They sat together in silence for almost an hour, the sun was setting, and Wednesday could feel both Donovan’s and her mother’s eyes staring at the two from the entrance of the graveyard when Tyler finally spoke.
“I miss her Weds. I don’t know what to do.” His voice was so quiet that she had to strain to hear even sitting beside him.
“I know, Tyler.” Wednesday’s voice was just as soft.
“Will you stay for a few more days? I don’t want to be alone.”
“I’ll stay.”
“Thank you.”
“Don’t thank me.”
"I'll always thank you, Wednesday."
Wednesday felt Tyler lay his head against her shoulder. She thought for a moment of pulling away, but suddenly all the pain and grief in this bond settled down and was replaced with a warm feeling of comfort. Sighing softly, Wednesday rested her head against Tyler’s and carefully took his hand. Tyler knew then that he would be okay again someday, not today or anytime soon. But one day, as long as he had Wednesday by his side.
In honor of Fran, Gomez, and Morticia fought the Nevermore school board to unban Hydes from the school. It took months, but finally, the school board decided they would allow Tyler to enter as a test run for other hydes in the future starting that school year. So for their freshman year of high school, Wednesday still refused to go to Nevermore. Still, Tyler was beginning his first year there at Nevermore. Tyler did try to convince Wednesday to join him at Nevermore but ultimately understood why she didn’t want to go.
His first year at Nevermore was not what anyone thought it would be. Wednesday listened to all his horror stories from being there. He almost considered dropping out and switching schools sometime during his third month there. After a lengthy conversation with his father, telling him how his mother would want him to keep trying for other hydes in the future, he stayed. It seemed that the other outcasts weren’t thrilled that Hyde was allowed back into the school and made it very clear to Tyler that they wanted him out of the school.
It started small at first, with glares in the halls—the normie high school bullying of shoving him into lockers and leaving rude notes in his books. The students slowly realized Tyler wasn’t fighting back, so they took it up a level.
They started to break into Tyler’s dorm and steal his stuff, ripping up his uniforms. They would leave blood on his desk with rude notes. They were transforming his lunch and dinners into raw meats or garbage. It got to where Donovan started to come up to the school during those times, and the two would eat in the man’s car together.
Wednesday heard all about this during their winter breaks together during freshman year. They both lay on the couch with a horror movie playing in the back–this time, it was “Clueless.” At the same time, Tyler complained to Wednesday about it all.
“They turned my shoes- my shoes!!- into freaking pieces of meat. Again.” Tyler groaned as he explained the newest unfoiled prank before he left for break.
“You could always hyde out and maim them,” Wednesday suggested with a slight smirk that grew in subtle amusement when Tyler shot her an unamused look. He laid his head in her lap, and she immediately put a hand in his hair and began petting his hair gently. An action Wednesday would only do with Tyler when they were alone. She would deny it otherwise.
“Or keep letting them walk all over you.”
“I’m not going to hurt them, Wens. I can’t hurt anyone, you know that.”
“I do, But I could order you too, as your master.”
“You wouldn’t, though. We both know it. You would never order me to do anything I didn’t want to.”
“... Stop talking. Or I’ll order you too.”
Tyler’s soft laughter filled the room, his eyes crinkling at the corners like when he was smiling. Wednesday hadn’t seen that smile since before his mothers passed. A warm feeling inched its way into the girl’s body. She tried to press it down and ignore it, but the feeling stayed. It usually did when she was with her Hyde.
The two fell into a comfortable silence for the rest of the movie. Tyler slowly shut his eyes during the last 30 minutes of the film. His breaths evened out as he fell asleep in Wednesday’s lap. Wednesday stared at him confused, wondering why her Hyde was so exhausted when it was usual for the two to stay up until the early morning together, not sleeping till around 5 am. But now it was barely midnight, and the Hyde was fast asleep.
“He’s not been sleeping. He’s nervous someone will break into his dorm while he sleeps.”
Wednesday turned at the voice, looking behind her and seeing Tyler’s father standing there. Wednesday sat up more, quickly taking her hand out of Tyler’s hair and turning to face Donovan ultimately.
“...I see,” Wednesday muttered quietly, glaring down at Tyler’s sleeping form. The taller teen seemed to leave out that detail.
“Some nights, he sneaks out. Ty comes home and sleeps here. On the weekends, he always comes home now. Some weekdays he takes the closing shifts at the weathervane, so he has an excuse to stay here for the night. I sometimes regret letting him go. The only reason his mother enjoyed it was because of your parents.”
Wednesday took in Donovans’ words but didn’t reply. She usually didn’t answer the man anyways. She didn’t like him too much. Wednesday leaned her head on the back of the couch. Her hand went back into Tyler’s curls.
Wednesday already hated Nevermore, hated the idea of going there, and ended up in her mother’s shadow. But now? Now she hates the school even more. No one was supposed to torture Tyler but her.
Gently, Wednesday laid down so that Tyler’s head was more on her stomach than her lap. She was carefully laying the blanket over both of them. Curling up slightly, Wednesday turned off the light and fell into what she would say was a dreamless sleep.
Wednesday would never admit her dreams were filled with a certain curly-haired hyde.
That specific curly-haired Hyde’s dreams were filled with a black-haired psychic.
The teens’ sophomore school year ended that summer Wednesday had an internship with a crime scene photographer. So instead of spending the whole summer in Jericho this year, Wednesday only finished the first half with Tyler. They have spent enough summers at each other’s houses that the guest room at Tyler’s was just Wednesday’s room. The room was filled with some of Wednesday’s summer and winter clothes. At Wednesday’s house, the guest room was just Tyler’s bedroom. It had some of his journals and flannels.
The two spent the first half of summer testing and training the Hyde, exploring the woods again, and hanging out in the weathervane while Tyler worked. They always spent the summers doing the same things. They never got tired of it, though.
On the last day before Wednesday had to leave for her internship. They were exploring the woods for the millionth. They returned to the small pond miles behind Tyler’s house. They were standing on the ledge a few feet above the pond. The two were tossing rocks into the lake below.
“So... Are you excited to go tomorrow? You’ve been talking about this for a while!” Tyler broke the silence carefully, his voice soft, and glanced over to Wednesday. Wednesday was wearing a pair of black shorts with a casual black t-shirt. Tyler was in one of his flannels and khaki shorts.
“I suppose so. I will miss testing the Hyde and the free Quads.” Wednesday kept her voice monotone like normal, but knowing Wednesday for so long, Tyler could hear the softness and the amusement underlining her words.
“Oh, is that all I’m good for? Making quads?” Tyler’s voice was filled with fake hurt as he looked at Wednesday with a pretend hurt look. Wednesday rolled her eyes and crossed her arms.
“Yes, of course. That and for my amusement.” Wednesday stepped closer to the edge and peeked down at the water below. Tyler followed and looked over the edge.
“Hey, Nes? Do you see that? In the water?” Tyler asked, pointing at a spot in the water below. Wednesday stepped closer to the edge, looking to see what Tyler was pointing to.
“No? Tyler, I’ve told you before. I believe you need glasses-TYLER!” The rest of Wednesday’s sentence was cut as Tyler pushed her into the pond below. Tyler bent over laughing as Wednesday popped back up from the water, glaring daggers up at Tyler above.
“I am going to cut your hands off as you sleep. You realize I still have a night here, correct? I sleep across the hall from you, you hairless Hyde!” Wednesday said very matter-of-factly, annoyance clear in her voice. Wednesday pushed her wet braids out of her face. A small smile forced its way onto her face hearing Tyler’s laughter from above. The sound of the laughter slowly made all the annoyance vanish from her body. Tyler had that effect on her. Wednesday kept her face down, looking at the water so Tyler couldn’t see the smile. But he knew he always did.
“That was so worth it! SO worth it!” Tyler laughed, shrugging off his flannel, before jumping into the water below. Completely splashing Wednesday. The second Tyler popped back up from under the water, Wednesday reached over immediately and dunked Tyler back under the water.
Wednesday smirked to herself, watching Tyler come up for air, spitting and coughing, still somehow laughing. Tyler whipped the water from his eyes before reaching for Wednesday’s hand and tugging her closer to the water.
The black-haired girl rolled her eyes but let him pull her closer. The girl got used to Tyler’s affection over the years. He got it from his mother. Wednesday has old memories of Fran being just as loving towards all of them as well. Maybe it was a hyde thing. Wednesday would never admit that she didn’t completely hate affection from Tyler. She especially would never realize that sometimes she also reaches out to him.
“You look like an angry wet cat.” Tyler laughed again softly before reaching out and gently brushing a piece of hair out of Wednesday’s face.
“I’m going to suffocate you in your sleep.”
“I count on it, Addams. It’s a date!”
Tyler laughed again as Wednesday shoved Tyler back under the water. It wasn’t so Tyler couldn’t see the slight blush on her face. Of course not. Wednesday just liked to shove Tyler underwater. That’s all. She suddenly felt Tyler’s arm wrap around her waist. Tyler came out of the water and spun him and Wednesday around before gently throwing Wednesday into the water again. She will deny the small squeak that came out while she was thrown.
When they got out of the water hours later, as the sun set, Wednesday would deny again that she accepted Tyler’s flannel. As the two walked back to the woods to Tyler’s house, Tyler gently laid his arm over Wednesday’s shoulder, pulling her closer. Wednesday allowed herself to lean against Tyler’s side. Wednesday was greatly glad for the dim light when Tyler quickly pressed a soft kiss to the crown of Wednesday’s head, even though she might admit that she leaned into the kiss.
On the last day of their mini-summer together. Tyler’s dad drove the two of them to the train station. Tyler’s legs were bouncing with nerves in the back seat. His Hyde always hated when Wednesday left. It felt like a part of him was going with her. Wednesday leaned over and put a hand on Tyler’s leg.
“Stop. You are shaking the car. It’s bothering me.” Wednesday squeezed Tyler’s knee before letting go and crossing her arms, giving Tyler a look. Tyler flushed slightly and looked out the window, though his legs stopped shaking.
“I hate when you leave….” Tyler’s voice was soft, a whisper, cracking his knuckles nervously. Wednesday sighed softly and put her hand back on Tyler’s knee, this time palm up. Inviting Tyler to hold her hand. An invite the boy immediately took, holding her hand tightly.
Wednesday took a moment to think before replying. Before Tyler’s mom passed, Hyde and Tyler took Wednesday, and her parting was much more manageable. Fran and Tyler always had a special relationship. She was the only one who truly understood everything about Tyler. No matter how much Wednesday tried over the years, there was always a part of Tyler she couldn’t fully understand as his mother could.
Tyler’s anxiety got much worse after his mother’s passing. It calmed down severely whenever Wednesday was there. His Hyde always settled down with his master here. He suffered from multiple panic attacks and paranoia whenever Wednesday left. Tyler once admitted to Wednesday that he had a deep fear that when she goes, she won’t come back. It took about a three-hour conversion after that to calm Tyler down. Wednesday never knew she could be so patient but for Tyler? She had it in her.
“My mother…bought me a phone. It’s waiting for me back home. This way, we can do that… facetime thing. It might help your anxiety.” Wednesday spoke slowly to ensure Tyler processed her words clearly through his cloud of anxiety.
Tyler’s head snapped over fast at Wednesday’s words. The shock was written all over his face causing Wednesday to smirk.
“That–That would be great! Thank you, Nes!” Tyler’s voice was so full of gratitude that Wednesday rolled her eyes and purposely ignored the fuzzy feeling in her chest.
“Don’t thank me.”
“I’ll always thank you, Wednesday. Always.”
With a squeeze of her hand, Tyler looked back out the window, smiling when he felt Wednesday squeeze before.
A few months have passed since Wednesday. The new school year started, and Wednesday and Tyler began their Junior year. Tyler was texting Wednesday like crazy. About some teacher that was bugging him a bit, and Apparently, he finally made one friend at school. The boy’s name was Ajax. He was a gorgon. Wednesday felt a strange sense of pride, knowing that Tyler had finally made some new friends. The school year was going okay for the most part, it was November, and nothing wrong had happened yet.
The keyword was yet. Wednesday was kicked out of her new school again, the 8th one. Rolling her eyes, Wednesday packed up her room. Her family finally got their way and was sending her to Nevermore. She was sure Tyler would be ecstatic to hear that Wednesday would eventually join him. That is purposely why she hadn’t told him. She won’t tell him until he sees her in uniform at the school.
Suddenly her phone started to ring. Rolling her eyes, knowing who was calling. Tyler was the only one with her number besides Puglsey and her parents. She sighed before answering the phone.
“Tyler–”
A panicked Tyler immediately cut off whatever Wednesday was going to say.
“No one believes me, Weds! NO ONE! Ajax keeps saying I’m acting crazy! I am not acting crazy! I’m not Weds!! I’M NOT!” Tyler’s voice was shaking. Wednesday could hear Tyler’s pacing. Worry filled Wednesday’s body. She quickly dropped what she was doing, focusing on Tyler.
“Tyler? Tyler, what are you talking about? Crazy about what?” Wednesday sat down on her bed, worried, filling her heart and body to the point she felt nauseous. She could feel the panic and fear filling her and Tyler’s bond. Both of them learned how to control their feelings, filling the bond years ago, but sometimes when one of them was seriously upset or overwhelmed.
“My feelings towards the fucking creepy teacher! I told Ajax that she’s been creeping me out, and he said that I was being overdramatic! I am not being overdramatic Weds- she’s always creepy towards me! I hate it!”
“Creepy, how Tyler? You’ve only mentioned a feeling before. Has she done something?” Wednesday felt angry and joined her feelings about someone hurting Tyler. Taking a few deep breaths, Wednesday brought a second to send calming energy through her and Tyler’s bond. She could hear Tyler sighing softly once he received the feeling through the bond.
“She just… She’s always finding a way to touch me. Whether it be my shoulder or my back, she always does! In class, she’ll always brush my shoulder with her hands! Or even at work! When she grabs her drinks from me, she touches and tries to, like–like, hold my hand! And she–...She…”
Wednesday waited a moment, confused why Tyler suddenly stopped talking. She could feel the tension rising between the phone and the bond.
“Tyler? Tyler, what else?”
Tyler sighed softly, and Wednesday could imagine how he was running a hand through his hand anxiously. It was a bad habit of his, along with biting his nails.
“She just…She always brings up my mom. She knows things about her–she had her fucking medical file Nes! I didn’t even know my mom had postpartum depression after having me! This teacher is the one who told me!” Tyler’s voice suddenly sounded choked up and hushed.
Wednesday was suddenly hit by shock and confusion at what Tyler told her. The gears quickly turned in her mind, trying to figure out why this teacher acted this way and how she got the file. Wednesday had so many questions.
“Tyler…What is her name? This Teacher?” Wednesday kept her voice even and calm. Rubbing her face, trying to calm herself down.
“Professor Marilyn Thornhill. She’s the botany teacher and Nevermore’s first normie teacher. But Wednesday... I’m not lying. There’s something off about her. Hyde feels it too.” Tyler’s voice was so quiet, and Wednesday hated how small he sounded.
“We will figure this out, Tyler. Just stay away from her for now.”
“We? What do you mean Weds–”
Wednesday hung up the phone, cutting Tyler off. Sighing softly to herself, Wednesday glared at the ceiling. Worry was all over her body. She hated the feeling of worrying about someone, about caring about someone. But if she genuinely thought about it, There wasn’t a time in her life when she hadn’t cared for Tyler.
Standing back up and packing her belongings, hastier than before, she knew she couldn’t let her parents know that she was okay with going to Nevermore now to see if what Tyler was saying was true. Slamming the lid to her trunks closed and headed downstairs to the car. Wednesday thought one thing to herself as she got into the car, seeing her parents waiting there.
“At least this won’t be a boring school year.”
