The search for the perfect mate (HIATUS)

Summary:

Midoriya Izuku is born an omega in a world where omegas are extremely rare. Being bullied his entire childhood for being different, he is shocked to find his time in high school completely different. All of a sudden his secondary gender isn't a cause to feel ashamed, it is praised.

And Izuku slowly learns that he can be allowed to love as well. In fact, he soon realizes he is the most desirable mating material at the school, and everyone wants his attention.

Who will he choose?

Notes:

Okay, so there are a few things I want everyone to know before we get into this. For starters, this will be my first fic containing smut, so if it's bad, that's why.
Secondly, I will add tags along the way, which is why right now Aizawa and Midoriya is the only pairing and why there are so few additional tags. This will change in the future.
And this will be a little slown burn, just so everyone knows that. It will take some time to get to the smut, which is why I haven't tagged smut yet, but since once it appears it will get a lot, I still rated this fic as Explicit from the start.

Chapter Text

First day of school. Oh my god, it is the first day of school. The first day at UA. Izuku couldn’t believe it. Maybe he was dreaming? Not that he hadn’t worked for it, he had. But really, did he really make it to UA? It seemed like he had. He had gotten the acceptance letter, and when he walked through the gate, which had really high-tech surveillance and stuff, he had had gotten through without problems. He had found his seat in the classroom and not once had anyone come and told him to leave the school. Although his teacher had really scared him when they were doing the quirk assessment thing, since he doesn’t actually have a quirk. But he didn’t come in last, so he didn’t need to leave the hero course. Actually, he wasn’t anywhere near the bottom, he had come in seventh place, surprising everyone except for his teacher it seemed. His teacher just looked at him with the same tired expression as he did with everyone else. And apparently the whole “gonna expel the student that came in last place” thing, was just a logical ruse.

Oh, and then it was Kacchan of course, now he had glared at Izuku the whole day. From the moment Izuku entered the classroom he had been glared at. But now the day was over and no one had told him he didn’t belong in the hero course, so he figured he was in the clear.

Izuku was so caught up in his own thoughts he didn’t notice the person calling for him.

“Hey! Hey, you with the green hair!” Surprised, he stopped and turned around. It was the girl from the entrance exam. Izuku studied her closely, she didn’t look upset or angry. Actually, was she happy? Excited? “I’ve been looking for you. Do you want to go to the station with me?”

Looking for him? Was she happy to meet him? Why? Sure, Izuku could tell that she was a beta, and they were never as bad as the alphas, but still. Wait, she wanted to go to the station with him? Was it a trap? Once again Izuku studied her face, but she looked completely sincere. And she was a beta after all, not an alpha, so it should be fine. Right?

He hesitated only for a moment before he nodded and turned around to follow her when she walked past him toward the station. When he hesitated to follow, she stopped and smiled at him.

“Are you coming?” She tilted her head to the side while she waited for his answer. When he started walking, she beamed at him and walked beside him in silence. After a while, Izuku couldn’t help but ask.

“Um.” When he started talking, she looked at him encouragingly. “Why did you want to walk with me? Don’t you know that I’m an omega?” He said it quietly, but he knew she heard him when she gave him a small, knowing smile before she answered.

“Because, you seem kind and cool, I mean you totally nailed the quirk assessment today and you don’t even have a quirk. And don’t worry about being an omega, at least not with me.” She gave him a meaning look before smiling. “You see, my mom is an omega. So I know all those mean things that kids say aren’t true, and most adults know that too, so don’t worry about the teachers.”

Midoriya couldn’t stop his shocked expression, it wasn’t often he heard of another omega, and even less often that he interacted with one. Omegas were rare after all. But that certainly explained she was being so nice.

“Oh. Okay. Cool.” And Izuku totally didn’t know what to say. Or do for that matter. But the girl just smiled at him. That reminded him, he didn’t know her name, did he?”

“I-I’m so sorry, but I don’t seem to remember your name.” It was a little scary to ask. What if she got angry. That was the worst part, she could both get angry at him for not remembering, as well as getting angry at him wanting to know in the first place. But she had been so kind, so it should be fine, right? Turned out he was right. She just kept smiling, telling him with her eyes that she understood.

“I’m Uraraka Ochako, and you’re Deku, right?” Izuku's cheeks started shifting colors fast and he did everything to find somewhere to look that wasn't near Uraraka.

“Um... Actually, my name is Midoriya Izuku.” As soon as he finished Uraraka stopped walking, staring at him, no smile covering her face anymore.

“Wait, so then you mean it’s an insult. That Bakugou-guy is calling you that to be mean!?” Izuku was frankly a little shocked at the fact that this girl he hadn’t known for long, was getting mad for him. This was probably the first time anyone had gotten mad for him instead of at him. Except his mom of course, but that was a long time ago. And even if his previous teachers never had gotten mad at him directly, they also had never really defended him against his classmates. So, this was definitely a new experience. He was even more surprised when Uraraka kept going.

“That is so not okay! You should definitely talk to him about it.” It only took a glance at Izuku’s terrified face for Uraraka to instantly change attitude. “I mean, you don’t have to! Besides, we’re at that age now when we are going to be educated about this stuff and grow out of childish attitudes, so I’m sure he will stop soon. And it probably won’t be as bad as in middle school.”

Once again, she only had to take a look at Izuku’s face to know what he was thinking.

“Yeah, I figured middle school hadn’t been that great for you. But like I said, adults usually get it, and you will too soon. But just remember, even if the others in the class are mean, I’m in your corner. I got your back.”

Her smile was so bright it totally made Izuku forget what she meant about going to get it as an adult, or whatever she had said. Either way, it was out of his mind by the time they had reached the station and parted ways.

…..............................................................................................................................................

From that day, Uraraka became Izuku’s first friend in a very long time. She was so kind, she was a beta and she understood him. Understood why he got nervous around people, and she didn’t seem to mind. She was patient and helped him when he didn’t understand something.

Because of her, the first week at UA was actually pretty good. She was right about the adult thing and maturing or whatever. Because all the teachers were great. Even Aizawa-sensei, who kind of had this look that he wanted them all to disappear like 90 percent of the time. Even he was kind. And most of the class had reached that stage Uraraka was talking about, that they started to understand that there was nothing wrong about being an omega. No one was as friendly or as nice as Uraraka, most kept their distance.

But no one was bullying him, not even Kacchan. Sure, there were looks. Mean looks, cold ones, disgusted ones and some confused ones, as if they didn’t understand what he was doing at UA. And he was sure they talked about him, but no one said anything to his face. There were no name calling, no one following him and insulting him, no harassment, no one used their quirk on him, and no one punched or kicked him. It was a totally new experience. When he told Uraraka that, she had given him a pained look and then hugged him for a long time. Also a new experience, but he didn’t want to upset her further, so he kept it to himself.

At the start of the second week, they had battle trials in teams. Him and Uraraka against Kacchan and Iida. Izuku was really scared to fight against Kacchan, especially since he could see that the explosive blonde was really mad. But Izuku had always been a good strategist, and it’s not like he got into the hero course while depending on his strong quirk, he had worked hard to be there.

So, the winning team ended up being him and Uraraka, surprising everyone. Unfortunately, even if Kacchan had acted just like Izuku had thought. He had underestimated exactly how mad the blonde was, so even if their team won, it had ended with Izuku having to be taken to the infirmary.

This started a few things Izuku never had anticipated. For starters, he had a really good talk with Recovery Girl about being and omega, and meds and stuff he never had gotten help with before. And Recovery Girl decided quietly to herself, that she would help this sweet boy, who definitely hadn’t been treated fairly so far. And she swore that would change this year. She would make sure everyone on the staff understood that too.

The second thing was that when the day was over, Uraraka came to visit him (he would have to stay the night to properly heal his injuries), but she wasn’t alone. She brought with her Iida and Asui. And Izuku listened to them apologizing about their behavior (once again, this shocked Izuku) and after they had praised him for his plan and performance during the exercise, they asked if he would be their friend. So Izuku smiled at them, the sunshine smile that Uraraka had come to love, and accepted gladly.

And lastly, after his friends had left, Aizawa-sensei and All Might-sensei came to talk to him. At first he thought they were mad at him, but they quickly made it clear that wasn’t the case. And maybe it was the happiness from realizing he now had three friends, or the relief that came when realizing he wasn’t in trouble for what happened with Kacchan. But he couldn’t help but smile, smile and smile.

And he was so caught up in his own thoughts that he didn’t see his teachers’ surprised expressions, because Izuku had never looked much at his own smile. He didn’t know that the teachers saw exactly what his friends had seen earlier, a literal ray of sunshine almost blinding them. He just knew that during the rest of the talk he caught Aizawa watching him intently several times, and on more than just a few occasions they locked eyes, though Izuku was quick to look away every time. And if Izuku spent the rest of the night thinking about how his teacher had given him a small smile before he left, then no one else had to know.
