His New Look

Summary:

Puss looks in the mirror and sees his stubble. His first thought is to shave it, but what if he wanted to let it grow out? He’s fine with trying out a new look, and he loves the idea of it.

Chapter 1: Hesitation

Chapter Text

Asking the person at the front desk of a hotel was not always easy. It may seem like it is not that big of a deal, considering your just asking for a room, but it does not help at all when your entire team are outlaws. They may have entered the building without any fear just now, but that person at the front desk can always pull out a small gun as they go to reach for a key. They all needed to be extra careful.

“Excuse me.” Puss caught the attention of the lady standing at the front desk. She looked down at the group. Puss, Kitty, and Perrito all stood there, looking innocent, but on the inside, they were ready to pounce if anything were to happen. “Do you, by chance, have any rooms available?” Puss pulled off a sack of coins and raised it up in the air.

The lady did not waste and time and turned around to grab a key to one of the rooms. She placed it in front of her. “That’ll be one gold coin.”

Puss grabbed the one coin from his bag and placed it on the table. “That’s fair.” He grabbed the key from her, and looked at the giant number hanging from the key. Room number seven.

It took a few moments to find the room, but they all eventually stood in front of the door. The giant seven on the wall next to the wooden frame spelling it out. He took the key and inserted it inside of the lock. Thankfully, it worked, and they all entered the room, too tired to say anything.

Well, almost too tired. “Man, today has been such a long day.” Perrito exclaimed as best he could with his face planted on the bed, muffling his voice. He turned his head to look at both Puss and Kitty. “How early do we have to wake up tomorrow?”

Puss looked at Kitty, expecting an answer, but she didn’t really say anything. She looked puzzled. “What? I don’t care when we wake up.”

He looked back towards Perrito and began to walk towards him. “We wake up whenever we wake up. Sleep in, Perrito, it’s going to be another long day tomorrow.” Puss placed his paws on the dog’s head, and started petting. It was both comforting for the dog and for even the cat. “I’m gonna clean up before I go to bed.”

“Alright, Puss.” Kitty said as she got into the bed and under the covers. “Just don’t take too long, before I take up the entire bed.”

Puss laughed quietly. “I will be quick.” Puss grabbed the small little bag from his boot that he carried around and walked towards the bathroom in the room. He pulled the light switch on the ceiling and revealed a small, but cozy, bathroom with a toilet, bathtub, and a sink with a mirror. He closed the door behind him and walked up to the sink, setting down the small bag.

Opening it up revealed a small razor blade, some small bandages, and some eyeliner just for his eyebrows. He stopped using it a while ago because he didn’t need to look pretty to be able to be himself, but he had it just in case there was a situation where he’d need it. Like a disguise of some sort.

He grabbed the small blade and raised up to his face, looking at the mirror. There was a few stubbles on his lower chin and he looked at them deeply, as he began to move the razor closer to his chin. He was an inch away at this point.

But he stopped. Something about this look kind of appealed to him. It was weird, because he had always liked to be clean shaven. The small or big beard never really fit his style, and it was always amazing to have a clean-shaven face. But as he looked longer into the mirror, the razor moving farther and farther away from his face, he realized something.

Maybe it was time for a change.

He set the razor back inside of the small bag and closed it up, taking it into his arm. He looked back at the mirror. The stubble on his lower chin was still there, but he looked at it in awe rather than in disgust. After a second, he smiled at his new look. It kind of fit him.

He turned off the light and walked outside into the main room where the bed was. Perrito was fast asleep already, and Kitty was there, looking back at him with an eyebrow raised. “Okay, Mr. Boots, that was a little too fast.”

He jumped up into the bed and chuckled. “Kitty?” He asked in a serious tone, and Kitty nodded, indicating she was listening. “Do you like this look?”

Kitty looked long and hard at the orange cat, and got confused. “You look no different from when I first saw you back at that retirement home.”

“Don’t remind me of that place.” He responded immediately, and this caused Kitty to quietly laugh at his reaction.

“And even if you did look different, that wouldn’t matter. You are still Puss In Boots, and that’s good.” Kitty raised a paw up to his face, and they both started purring. Puss got under the blanket and began to close his eyes, both of them were hugging in the bed.

“Goodnight, Kitty.”

“Goodnight, Puss. Have a good sleep.” Kitty placed a small kiss on his forehead and turned the other way, getting ready to sleep.

As he closed his eyes and got himself ready for sleep, he thought a lot about how he would look. Would he try to grow it out like his first few weeks at Mama Luna’s, would he grow it out just a little to a small beard? He just wondered how this ‘no shaving’ thing would go. Sometimes, change is nice.

He can’t wait to see his new look.
