Chapter 1: Beginnings

Chapter Text

Long ago there was a royal family who lived in the sky, and they danced with their citizens. One fateful day they were put under a spell, and fell into a deep sleep. Their citizens tried to wake them but the curse could not be broken. Without their glow the world fell into cold Twilight. And it cracked. And it shattered.

However in their dreams the family wept, and the citizens caught their tears, blessing them with their gift of creation, so that they might revive the fragments of their lost world and dance forevermore.

But in the family one survived the youngest Prince, Theseus. While his family was cursed he was away picking flowers and berries only to return to their sleeping bodies. At 5 years of age he would be named crown prince and at 10 King.

He would have to move heaven and earth for his people, battling away the darkness, commanding armies, taking care of his people, maintaining alliances and securing his family’s position, in only a few seconds he was suddenly Atlas. Days strolling the gardens replaced with studies of infrastructure, agriculture, training of every kind.

Using his family’s tears to conjure weapons to give his people a fighting chance. He watched as his family aged in their sleep but never awoke to see how he aged.

When he was crowned king he immediately replaced every advisor , or noble who dared to interfere with his ruling. Lord Schlatt was replaced with his son Tobias, Sir Sam a commoner was made into a noble and so on. He was surrounded by those he trusted yet he yearned for more.

Strolls around his kingdom led him to a baby with no name but with bright red eyes that reminded him of his older brother, curls like his other brother and a smile of his father. He took the small thing in his arms and declared the boy Prince Shroud de Alger Obelia of the Antarctic empire. The people thought mournfully a child taking care of a child but how lovely it was to see a smile on their Kings face that no one dared to oppose.

As the years moved on the cracks, the darkness was almost gone, people who were controlled by the darkness were healed. Theseus recovered the enderians , elytrians, even those who resided in the ocean all thought to have perished. But none of their healers could save his family, elytrians helped take care of his sleeping family preening their wings when the thought of touching them made Theseus break down.

His kingdom the pinnacle of hope and prosperity has thrived under his care, his son was happy, and he had the strongest people under his hand but one day one of his commanders went rogue a risk taker Dream. Tasked with the simple duty of recovering another town covered with the darkness and its monsters.

But this one held a warden hybrid trapped in its grasp, the normal procedure would be to retreat and get Sam who’s in charge of wardens. So that there would be less casualties but Dream decided to take a gamble having his men trap the warden and pour the vile of tears down its throat.

It worked but many were injured, at one point it was said that Dream was thrown into the darkness and the only one who was able to take him down was his partner a man named George. Soldiers spoke of the man who wouldn’t dare hurt his beloved had slammed the man repeatedly into the ground till he was rendered immobile and stuffed him with another vile of tears. By the end in a troop of 50 there was over 30 injured not including the leader of the troop.

Of course word had spread throughout the kingdom and made its way to Theseus. As soon as Dream had recovered he was summoned immediately as well as his partner George. “You both have displeased me immensely, how can you both screw up a mission that even a scout could complete. When there are wardens your procedure is to retreat but you both had the idiocy to move forward. You put almost your whole troop in the infirmary including yourselves! This is something that has spread to every corner of the kingdom even to others. So I’ll have to act accordingly. You’re both stripped of your titles as Captain and Co-Captain of the recovery troops.” Theseus waved his hand to dismiss them but Dream spoke up.

“My king, I beg of you ,I’ve given everything, let me die saving my country and that throne. I’m asking you, your majesty.” Dream kneeled as he continued to beg for forgiveness. “Allow me to make this right.”

“Someone could’ve died, Dream.” Sapnap of the healing troops spoke up “Maybe we are being too hasty on George’s punishment he raised his spear to his own husband, his family.”

“And where is his treacherous family now but in a place he can visit if he wished! Mine?! Is with the ancestors! In a perpetual sleep!” As Theseus stood from his throne he continued.

“I am King of the most powerful nation in the world and my entire family is gone! Have I not given everything?!” He yelled as Sapnap shamefully looked away and the other advisors looked away.

Slowly Theseus walked towards him. “On your feet, Captain.”Slowly Dream rose to his feet beside George.

“I stood by you when Schlatt had control of this committee, and you and the advisors in this room stood by him, while I ran begging to the commoners for protection. And I warned you about taking risks on missions, and you did. So today ,I am done.” Without a word Dream took his sword and stabbed it into the ground and George did the same with his spear and without a word they walked out.

“That’s all for today.” The King said with a solemn tone.

Theseus sat back down and waved his hand dismissing everyone. As Tubbo turned to speak to his best friend to comfort him he was pulled back by the head alchemist Sam who led him away.

Sitting on his throne Theseus pulled up a map made of magic it showed every single territory that had been recovered but a single area near the desserts remained black. Vast dry lands filled with scorpion, spider and even snake hybrids. Even saving a single village had left many wounded with poisons.

As Theseus thought about everything on his plate his sleeping family, the darkness, trades, and the next captain and co Captain to reassign. He was interrupted with a giggle a familiar one, he got up and embraced his son like he always does.

His face covered in dry paint and for today he would forget everything and enjoy being with his son. While everything is moving at intense speeds the one thing that will remain peaceful and slow is the time with his son.

He saw the painting he made there was not two figures as always but six. A tall man in pink paint who carried a sword, a man in brown paint who held a guitar, a short man in green with wings, and a lady in purple who held violet flowers.

“Why did you draw your grandma with violet flowers?” Theseus asked because how would his son know that she loved those flowers. “It was in this bigggg picture of her and you were in it!” His son said with a smile.

“Y’know she loved them because they mean everlasting love but they also mean wisdom and remembrance. Everything she was, my family would spend our days in the gardens talking to the flowers.” He held his son as he walked through the halls to the gardens speaking about his family.

The maids and guards would listen close and smile sorrowfully at those good days where there was always laughter within the halls. But at least there was some now.
