Fallen Brother

Summary:

Playing on the platforms in the trees that Jason and Dick made Tim jumped to short. Lucky Jason was there to grab Tim but that caused a dislocated shoulder and now a worried Jason.

Work Text:

Ever since Tim had been taken in by Bruce he had been following Jason around like he was a lost puppy.

Jason knew that it wasn't a little brother thing since he never did that to Dick. Maybe it was a Tim thing.

If Tim was going to follow him around he might as well get some training down. Maybe even teach Tim a thing or two.

"You wanna be Robin after me, right?" Jason asked Tim.

Tim nodded, "I would love to!"

"Cool. Let's head to the forest."

Jason walked out of the back door, going past the garden and the pool they went to the gate that blocked the garden from the forest. It only partly surprised Jason that Bruce owned most of the forest around his property. Old, rich people like to spend money on random stuff. Plus, if Bruce wanted to spend his money on a forest, what is Jason to judge?

Walking to the edge of the forest Jason spoke up, "Dick and I made this a long time ago."

Looking up, in the trees were platforms. It seems that they were close enough for people to make the jumps.

"Come on,"  Jason said, heading towards a ladder.

Of course, Tim followed.

On the platform, they weren't that high up. It would hurt if they fell but not do too much damage.

Jason jumped to the first one. Clearing the gap perfectly.

Tim wasn't a little unsure but he didn't want to disappoint Jason. So, with a deep breath, he jumped.

Jason caught him and pulled him onto the platform.

"You are a natural!" Jason told him, "You'll make a great Robin."

Tim felt pride spread through him. If Jason was praising him then Tim must be doing something right.

"You want to try again?" Jason asked.

"Yeah!" Tim said excitedly.

Jason jumped to the next platform.

Tim bounced on his feet. He was ready but Tim still hesitated and that was his downfall.

He jumped but it was way too short. Jason acted fast and grabbed a hold of Tim's arms as he fell.

There was a pop sound and then a blood-curdling scream that filled the forest.

Fear and shock filled Jason. He swears he didn't mean to let go.

People say watching someone fall, time slows, like a slow-motion film.

That’s a lie.

It happens fast. Too fast.

Before he even realizes Tim is falling, the sound of his body hitting the ground reaches his ears.

Jason quickly climbed down the ladder that was on every platform.

If Jason was being honest he was scared to see what happened to Tim. He couldn't even hear him or that could be the ringing in Jason's ears from the adrenaline.

Jumping down from the few steps, Jason ran to Tim.

He was laying on the ground on his back struggling to breathe.

Jason ran up and dropped to his knees.

"You're okay, you're okay," Jason repeated as if a chant.

Tim was crying silent tears.

"It's okay. Let it out," Jason told him.

That's what Tim did. He opened his mouth and let out giant, loud sobs. Sobs that broke Jason's heart.

"Can you tell me where it hurts?" Jason asked.

Tim shook his head.

"You don't know where it hurts?"

"I-I'm scared," Tim hiccupped out.

Jason bit his lip. It was different when he was Robin but when he was just Jason and it was his baby brother that was hurt.

"Please, can you show me, and then we will make it better," Jason promised?

"J-Jason," Tim cried, "I want B-Bruce!"

Jason paused at that. What would Bruce do to him?

Jason had hurt his baby brother. How would Bruce react to that? Jason just had a feeling this would be the last straw. That was when Bruce found out he would be kicking him out.

"We can't get Bruce," Jason told him, "but I'm Robin and your big brother. I can help you."

Tim nodded. What else could he do?

Jason scanned Tim's body. By now Tim had partly calmed down.

Right away Jason saw the problem. His shoulder was clearly out of place.

"I'm gonna pick you up. Is that okay?" Jason asked.

"Yeah."

Jason slipped his arms under Tim's small body and lifted him.

Tim cried out in pain.

"I'm sorry."

Jason carefully carried Tim back to the manor. He just couldn't believe that he dropped his brother like that. What kind of hero couldn't save a family member?

Taking Tim to the back entrance of the Batcave, hoping not to run into anyone, he went to the med bay and placed Tim down on one of the beds.

"Okay, okay, this is fine," Jason told himself.

Jason grabbed a pair of scissors and started cutting Tim's shirt, to make it easier to get to the dislocated shoulder.

He looked over Tim's shoulder. This should be easy, Jason was taught first-aid during Robin training. He knows what he is doing so why are his hands shaking?

"Tim, you have a dislocated shoulder. I'm gonna have to put it back in place," Jason explained, trying to keep his voice from shaking.

Tim didn't reply, he was trying to stop himself from sobbing. Tears were all over his face.

Jason slowly placed his hands in position on Tim's arm. Just when he was preparing to do this a voice called.

"Jason! Tim!" Dick called out, making both of the boys in the medbay freeze.

No one made a sound. Not even Tim who had to bite his lip. Jason was hoping Dick would see no one was here and walk away but a part of him wanted Dick to look for them and maybe just maybe Jason wouldn't have to cause his little brother's pain anymore.

They heard his footsteps get closer and closer until he entered the medbay and looked confusedly at his brothers until that quickly changed to panic as they were in the medbay.

"What happened?" Dick asked, moving closer to Tim.

"We were playing on the platforms. Tim jumped and he didn't make it and when I grabbed his arms something happened and I dropped him," Jason quickly explained, hoping that Dick would see this as the accident it was.

"Do you know what injury he got?" Dick asked.

"Dislocated shoulder," Jason told him.

"Painful but easy fix if you know what you are doing," Dick explained.

Dick went over and grabbed some Morphine. Making sure that Tim had an IV placed in his skin he put some Morphine into the kid's system. Hoping that it hit him fast.

They waited around for 30 minutes just to make sure the drug was in Tim's system. Once they were sure the drug was working they acted.

Jason grabbed a hold of Tim's hand that was on his good side and held onto it.

Dick went to the other side and got ready to fix the injury.

"On three," Dick said and started counting. Once he got to three he popped the shoulder back. Only wincing when Tim cried out a bit. During that moment Jason squeezed Tim's hand.

Finally when everything was finished they all let out a sigh.

Dick went over to a cupboard while Jason stayed with Tim. Grabbing out a white cotton cloth, he walked over back to his brothers, where he tied the cloth around Tim’s neck and placed his arm through the gap to take some pressure off it until it heals.

Dick started patting Tim's hair as he began to talk to Jason.

"Are you going to tell Bruce?" Dick asked.

"Heck no. Bruce would be so mad at me," Jason replied.

"I don't think so. Maybe just have a talk. It's better than keeping something from him. Trust me," Dick explained.

Jason sighed, "later. I just wanna see that Tim is okay.

Jason sat on the edge of the bed holding Tim's hand, trying to give him a bit of comfort.

A couple hours later they were still in the cave but moved to sitting around the Batcomputer. That's when Bruce called them up for dinner.

Jason knew that Bruce would notice the sling on Tim. They couldn't hide it anymore.

When they sat down at the dining table Bruce's eyes zoned to Tim and the sling. Before he could even ask about it Jason stood up.

"Can I talk to you?" Jason asked.

Bruce looked over Tim one more time before agreeing.

Heading to the study, the second the door closed Jason started talking.

"I didn't mean to hurt Tim. We were playing on the platforms on the trees and his jump was too short but I caught him. It's just that when I did a dislocated his shoulder and dropped him," Jason explained.

"Is he okay now?" Bruce asked, trying to take all this information in.

Jason nodded, "Dick gave him Morphine and put his shoulder back into place."

Bruce sighed, "I'm glad you guys helped but please next time something like this happens come and get me."

"You ain't mad?" Jason asked, looking at Bruce for the first time since entering the room.

"I'm a little mad you guys didn't get me but I'm not mad about what happened. Accidents happen. It's okay." Bruce explained.

Jason stood there awkwardly not knowing what to do now that he knows Bruce isn't mad at him. Lucky Bruce did.

He opened his arms in a silent invite for a hug. Jason took it.

They stayed like that until Jason broke it.

"Can we have dinner now? I'm hungry," Jason told him.

Bruce placed a gentle hand on Jason's shoulder.

"Of course."

With that they went back to the dining room table to finally enjoy their meals without worry.
