Agents of Shield: Interludes

Summary:

"Oh my god." Mack murmured, burying his head in his hands. He looked at the folder in front of him, flipped open with its contents spread out across his desk. The title page showing the annoyingly energetic smile of a brownhaired, scruffy looking young man was swept carelessly to one side of the desk. Someone stepped through the open door into his tiny office. He didn't bother looking up, he could tell by the steps it was May. "What's he done now?" she asked, annoyance already audible in her voice.

Notes:

Shield was aware of Dekes antics, i mean they had an undercover agent there just to keep an eye on him, and while the show never goes into it, i feel like its unlikely they would've let Deke Shaw unleash the kind of tech he was "developing" on the world again. So:

Chapter 1: Do we need to be sad about that?

The Lighthouse

"Oh my god." Mack murmured, burying his head in his hands. He looked at the folder in front of him, flipped open with its contents spread out across his desk. The title page showing the annoyingly energetic smile of a brownhaired, scruffy looking young man was swept carelessly to one side of the desk. Someone stepped through the open door into his tiny office. He didn't bother looking up, he could tell by the steps it was May. "What's he done now?" she asked, annoyance already audible in her voice. She must've seen the photo of Deke. Still refusing to lift his head, Mack closed his eyes and said: "Agent Khan's informed us Deke is working on framework tech to build some sort of a, uh, gaming system for the online market."

May massaged her eyes. "The framework. Of course that would be on his bucket list. Why doesn't he add the damn LMDs too while hes at it?" Mack finally looked up, a mock-serious expression on his face. "Don't tempt fate, May. I really don't need a sequel to that production." - "And are we finally doing something about it?" she asked, crossing her arms. "No, no need to step in yet. Taking down his company would generate a lot of attention we don't need, and so far, none of his prototypes have actually worked. We get lucky, this situation will resolve itself and his startup will just be the next popular crash." - "'We get lucky'? Now whos tempting fate?" May smirked. She had that one, Mack conceded mentally.

He started to push the files back into the binder, and put it on the pile with the others awaiting his attention, before standing up and walking around his desk. "While I have you here, I got a mission for you. We've been picking up stray readings all over the place, like, uh...." - "Don't say anomalies." Mack grimaced. Yeah, they'd used that word up in more ways than one last year. He motioned with his hand as if to wave the thought away. "Anyway, I need you to check it out. Take a team, head to one of the... points of interest when they appear, see if anything seems out of the ordinary. Hopefully it'll turn out to be nothing, but..." - "You never know. I'm on it, Director." May nodded. Mack leaned against his desk. "Be careful out there." he smiled, a little ruefully. "Sure. Always am." she smirked, and turned to leave.
