Work Text:
TK walked down the street looking down at his hand where he was busy twisting the new wedding band adoring his ring finger. He smiled happily to himself as it twinkled in the sunlight. It was a warm day, the sun only just starting to light the day. He had got up early leaving his gorgeous husband sleeping in their bed. It was rare that he was awake before Carlos, but they had got into multiple rounds the previous night and Carlos was thoroughly worn out. TK chuckled as he thought about that, proud that their honeymoon was very much still ongoing as they finished up their last few days off work.
TK had snuck out of bed and quickly put on his boxers, shorts and a t-shirt and crept out of their bedroom, slipping on his sneakers as he quietly left the loft, deciding that his husband deserved to be woken up with coffee and bagels from his favourite coffee shop down the road from their home.
He carried on wandering, continuing to be mesmerised by the new jewellery on his finger, the most precious thing that he now owned. He hadn’t ever realised that it was possible to be this happy. And it was all down to the wonderful person that he hoped was still sleeping soundly in their bed.
He rounded the corner, turning into the street of the coffee shop when he accidentally walked straight into a man. TK stumbled backwards stunned as the man he had collided with fell to the ground. He looked up and went straight over to him.
“Hey, I’m sorry man” TK said as he held a hand out, the man reaching up to take it. “TK?”
TK dropped the hand shocked, the man falling back on to the ground. “Alex? Oh, I’m sorry.” He said, putting his hand out again, Alex once more taking it, TK pulling him back up to standing.
“What on earth are you doing in Austin?” TK asked him.
“My Aunt Mary moved here, and I’m helping her get set up.” Alex said, dusting off his shorts.
“Oh right.” TK nodded.
“I totally forgot you were here. How are you?” Alex said cockily.
“I’m good, great actually.” TK grinned.
“You look good, really good. Happy.” Alex said, sizing him up and down.
“I am happier than I’ve ever been.” TK held up his left hand. “I actually got married recently.”
“Oh wow. I guess congrats then.”
“Hmm, thanks” TK beamed.
“I’m not surprised, after all it’s what you always wanted.”
“It wasn’t actually what I wanted.” TK said, “but then I found the right person, and I just knew that it was right.”
“Good for you.” Alex said, slightly jealously.
“Yeah, he’s literally my heart.” TK said. “Anyway, I owe my husband his favourite breakfast, so I need to get going.”
“Sure, nice to see you.”
“Yeah, right.” TK said, turning and heading towards the coffee shop.
“Hey TK” Alex called after him. “I guess it worked out better for you that I moved on then huh?”
TK shook his head and walked into the shop.
TK slid the door to the loft closed behind him and clicked the lock. He slipped off his sneakers and placed them by the door under the coat hooks. Dropping his keys on the table, he looked over to the bedroom where he found Carlos sitting up in bed, reading a book with his glasses on. TK smiled as he walked in and leant against the wall, holding the coffee cups and bag of pastries in his hands. “Damn, I hoped I would be back before you woke up.” He said, Carlos looked over the top of his book, smiling at him. “There you are husband.”
“Right here husband” TK said wandering over and sitting on the bed next to Carlos, handing Carlos a coffee.
“Ooh thank you husband.” Carlos said taking the coffee and placing it on his bedside table. He put down his book next to the coffee cup, took off his glasses putting them on top of the book. “And some breakfast treats?”
“The very best.” TK said handing Carlos the brown bag in his hand. Carlos took the bag frowning at TK.
“I’ll get a plate.” TK said, shifting off the bed and heading into the kitchen as Carlos chuckled, calling after him. “Thank you baby.”
“Thank you what?” TK shouted back.
“Husband, thank you husband.” Carlos shouted back in reply.
TK grabbed a plate from the cupboard and walked back into the bedroom, handing it to Carlos then pulling his t-shirt over his head and putting it on the floor, and slipping his shorts down, them joining the t-shirt. “TK…” Carlos whined.
“Oh husband I know, a mess on the bedroom floor.” TK said climbing back into bed and kissing Carlos on the cheek. “I promise I will tidy up later.”
Carlos giggled. “Ok husband.”
“Control freak” TK whispered into Carlos’s cheek, kissing him again.
Carlos put the bag on the plate, carefully opening it to make sure that no crumbs escaped. “Almond croissants, hmm, yum.”
“And some pain au raisin”
“The wedding diet is officially off then?”
“It’s the married diet now, which means” TK said grabbing a croissant and taking an accentuated bite. “I can eat whatever I want, and you” TK continued, poking the end of Carlos’s nose with his finger “can help me burn those calories off.”
“No problem husband” Carlos said giving TK a quick kiss on the lips.
TK hummed snuggled into Carlos, leaning against his side. “Oh baby, you won’t believe who I literally bumped into out there?”
“Who?” Carlos asked taking a bite out of the croissant.
“Alex.”
“Alex who?”
“My ex, Alex.”
“What?” Carlos said jumping and causing TK to slip further into him. “You’re kidding? What’s he doing here?”
“His aunt moved here, and he was helping her with the move.” TK said, settling back into Carlos’s side.
“Oh right. Hmm” Carlos said.
“What are you thinking sweetheart?” TK asked kissing Carlos’s shoulder.
“I’m thinking that I hope I see him.”
“Why?” TK said, sitting up and looking at Carlos, slightly concerned.
“Because I want to shake his hand.”
“You want to shake his hand? Really?” TK asked.
“Yeah. Not because he hurt you, or because of what happened next.”
“Then why?”
“Because” Carlos cupped TK’s cheek in his hand “if he hadn’t been stupid enough to let you go then you never would have moved here to me.”
“I think that we would have met anyway.” TK said kissing Carlos’s palm.
“Oh you do huh?” Carlos said, stroking TK’s cheek.
“Yeah, I do. I think that we would have met anyway, because we are meant to be.”
Carlos smiled lovingly at TK. “Me too baby.” Carlos sat back against the headboard, pulling TK into his arms. “I was meant to love you.”
TK looked up at Carlos, kissing him. “I was meant to love you. And I love you so much husband.”
“I love you too. Husband.”
