This isn’t how Chan imagined he would get discovered. Honestly, he didn’t even think he would get caught, but there he was on the shower floor. He cursed himself out for not taking his pills on time and not being more careful. He couldn’t help it, the night before was one of the best he had in a while.
His friends and more importantly, his boyfriend convinced him to take some time off his music to go on a vacation with them. At first he was hesitant, but his boyfriend being the best told him that it’s good to rest, and that they rented a beach house. The moment ‘beach house’ left his boyfriends mouth Chan was set on going.
It’s not like he was going for the house in its self, he was going because he was going to see his home again, the sea. He left his home a long, long time ago. His parents thought it would be beneficial for their child to grow up with more opportunities, and more opportunities is what he got. There was many things he couldn’t do underwater that he could do on land; like music. There is music underwater, but he wanted his music to be heard by everyone. Chan wanted people to experience what music made him feel.
When Chan’s family left the sea, they away from it. Not because they didn’t love it, but for the risks. Back when Chan was little the pills that kept them human weren’t very liked by a majority of merfolk. The ruler seemed indifferent to the whole situation; if merfolk left or merfolk hunted other merfolk who took the pills, they didn’t care.
Now Chan has heard that it’s been calmer. No more merfolk killing their own, and that made Chan so glad. That meant not having to be far away from the sea anymore. What he didn’t know growing up is that his dream would lead him far from the sea. It’s something that always tore him, never being close to home. But now he got close to his home and he couldn’t care less about responsibilities.
That was his big mistake.
When they arrived to the beach house, he couldn’t stop smiling. He saw his friends having big smiles on their faces, rushing to pick their rooms. He turning to his boyfriend who had stopped the car and was getting ready to get out; Chan couldn’t stop smiling. His restraint went out the door, he leaned towards his boyfriend, as he was taking off his sunglasses, and gave him a quick kiss. The look on his boyfriend was so cute, flustered and confused. Chan didn’t wait for his boyfriend’s respond to the kiss, he got out the car and started running towards chasing the others to get the best bedroom.
After getting their things to their respective rooms, they threw a little party. A barbecue outside by the sea. They all decided it would be best if they ate first and then go out swimming, but once everything was put away; beer cans, trash, plates cleaned, soda back into the fridge, they went out into the water.
Chan ever since he was little he got into the routine of every 25th of the month he would take the pill that would let him be human. He never had any alarms for it, it was second nature waking up and taking them first thing in the morning. But that day he didn’t get the chance to take them, his boyfriend wanted them out of the house as early as possible, so they would have more time to relax and have fun. Chan had put the pills in his bag waiting for the chance to take them without being seen. If he ever got caught taking them, he wouldn’t be able to hide his identity. He was a horrible liar, and he wouldn’t dare to lie to his boyfriend if he ever asked Chan what the pills were for.
But that doesn’t matter anymore. He forgot to take the pills and now his boyfriend is knocking on the bathroom door.
- “Channie are you okay in there? It’s been a while.”
“Yea, I’m fine…”
Minho on the other hand wasn’t buying it. Chan told him he was going to shower but he only heard the water turn on for a few seconds and then rapidly turn off; that was thirty minutes ago.
- “Chan”
‘Oh no’ Chan thought. He was utterly screwed, when Minho used that voice its over. He knew that he was lying, and Chan is pretty sure that Minho might break down the door if Chan didn’t open it for him.
“Minho, baby I’m totally fine, I promise. I just-”
Yea Chan totally messed that up. He should have pretended as if he wasn’t there. If only he could reach the towel to dry himself off, but his tail didn’t let him. It’s too heavy and big, definitely not something that made it easy for him to move.
Just then, when Chan was trying his hardest to get a towel, he heard a click. The bathroom door opened and his beautiful boyfriend was standing in front of him.
“Hahaha…hey babe” Chan said nervously.
Minho didn’t say anything for a while, he was trying to process why his boyfriend had a fish tail, and how did he manage to sneak it in without him knowing.
- “Honey, did you want to be a mermaid so bad that you bought yourself a detachable tail?”
“More like I am a mermaid got careless.”
Minho didn’t say anything to that, he just kept staring into Chan’s eyes searching for any signs that Chan was lying. A few seconds after Minho started getting closer to Chan, kneeling down to poke Chan’s tail with a curious glance.
So much was going through Chan’s head in that moment, but seeing his boyfriend with that adorable expression on his face made them all quit down. He observed as Minho ran his hand over the scales, glancing at them with sparkling eyes. It’s been a while since Chan had his tail out for that long; black and white shiny scales felling sensitive to the touch, fins moving on their own reacting to his boyfriend.
- “So pretty” Minho said under his breath.
Chans heard his boyfriend, and he couldn’t help blush. Minho lifted his face back to see Chan with a big smile on his face.
- “Babe your tail is so pretty!” he told Chan with his fist closed moving them up and down to show is excitement.
“I’m glad you think so” Chan replied looking down a bit.
Minho grabbed his boyfriend’s face with both of his hands and gave him pecks all over his face, until both of them were giggling.
- “So, what do you want to do now?” Minho asked
“Kiss you again” Chan said giving his boyfriend more kisses causing Minho giggle again.
- “For real, do you want to talk about this? WAIT- DO YOU NEED WATER?? YOUR LIKE HALF FISH NOW RIGHT? OH MY GOD, WATER!”
Minho stood up quickly and turning the shower water on, letting chan get splashed with ice cold water. Chan quickly grabbed Minho’s hand from the shower handles and turned off the water.
“BABE, MINHO, IT’S TOO COLD. Plus I don’t need water to breath, here come back and we can talk about it.”
Chan took his hand off Minho’s and waiting until the younger one would go back to his side, but to his surprise Minho shook his head no.
- “It’s wet.”
“Gee, I wonder who made it that way.” Chan said in a sarcastic tone.
- “Sorry, I thought you were going to DIE!” Minho bantered.
“If I didn’t have the water on before you came in, why would you think I would die without water?” Chan tried to reason.
- “Bang Chan, it’s not everyday you find out that your boyfriend is a mermaid!”
“Okay okay, sorry. You’re right I shouldn’t have assumed this discovery would be easy, my fault. Umm…I have these pills, do you think you can get them for me please? They’re in my bag.
- “Pills?” Minho questions as he leaves the bathroom to retrieve the item his boyfriend desires.
“Yea, they make me human…I don’t know how they are made, but I’ve been taking them forever.”
- “except yesterday” Minho points out.
“except yesterday” Chan repeats.
- “How long has it been since you had your tail out?” Minho asks as he’s coming back into the bathroom shaking a container with little blue balls, labeled ‘HP’.
“Umm…since I was like five, and it was by mistake. My parents forgot to give me the pills, so the next day I was stuck in the bath tub for a good while until they came to check up on me.
- “So like what happened now, except you look super uncomfortable.”
“Oh I am but what can I do? My tail is too long to fit in here. Back then the tub was big enough for me to swim back and forth in.”
After saying that Chan had a sad smile playing on his face.
Minho bent down and gave his scales and fins a stroke and kissed Chan on his nose.
- “My lovely boyfriend, would you like to go swimming as a mermaid?”
Chan’s eyes opened wide at the question he was being asked; he missed swimming. Yea he’s gone swimming before but that was with his human legs. He missed dashing through the water with his tail. Being able to breath and see clearly without his eyes hurting.
“But others will see me”
- “Channie, we are in a secluded area of the beach. Changbin’s family wanted to make sure no one interrupted our vacations. We’ve been here for a day and a half, so far no pictures of us on the internet. And if you’re worried about the rest of the guys, you know they won’t expose you. If you want I’ll take their phones away until you go back to being a human.”
Chan’s eyes swelled up a bit, he can’t believe that his boyfriend would be so accepting of him. He couldn’t get any words out, all he could do is nod and give Minho a kiss on the cheek.

Minho didn’t waste any time. After giving chan another kiss, he went to the living room where the rest of their friends could be found. He quickly grabbed the microphone from Jisung’s hand before he had a chance to sing again.
- “Hello friends I hope you have all slept well, because I’m going to put you all to work.”
A cohrus on grones were heard through the room from the dudes who were there to relax.
- “Okay, you guys can stop making sex noises now.” Minho says rolling his eyes “I need you three to get a cart.” He points at Changbin, Felix, and Jisung. “and you three” pointing at Seungmin, Jeongin, and Hyunjin, “I need you to fill buckets of water so we can fill the cart.”
Minho thought he made himself clear giving orders, but the other apparently didn’t think so because they just stared at him as if he had gone mad.
“Umm…not that we wouldn’t love to do that but, why?” asked Felix
“Speak for yourself, this is child labor, aka illegal!” Jeongin added after Felix.
- “You stopped being a child ages ago,” Minho rolls his eyes and continues “I’ll explain once you get here with all the things. Now please help me.” Minho finishes giving his best puppy eyes and pout.
Not too long, everyone was out the door doing their respective tasks.
Minho on the other hand found some wood slacks. He used them to make a little trail from the beach house to the sea, that way the wheels on the cart wouldn’t be stuck in the sand.
When he got back to the house, he saw the rest of his friends all set with the cart filled half way with water. He knows that they might didn’t need the water, but it’s better to play it face than making his boyfriend into fried fish.
- “Come follow me” Minho told his friends.
As they walked to Minho’s and Chan’s shared room he heard them talking about Chan really being an old man and sleeping until noon. Minho chuckled at their obliviousness about whats to happen in a few seconds.
Minho got to the bathroom door, knocked and asked Chan is it was okay if he came in.
Chan was terrified, he didn’t know how the others would react. He knows he doesn’t need to worry, that they would love him all the same, but there was no helping feel like they wouldn’t accept him. It scared him so much, but if he didn’t tell them now then he wouldn’t have the guts to tell them later.
“Yea, come in.” Chan said in a low tone.
Minho opened the door letting them all pile into the big bathroom. Upon walking all Minho heard were gasps.
“Hey guys.”
“OH MY GOD IS THAT A TAIL?”
“CHAN FURRY?”
“CALLED IT! YOU OWE ME 20 JEONGIN”
“I’m not a furry. I’m a mermaid, now can you guys help me? It’s small here and my tail is super uncomfortable.” Chan asked
The rest stared, waiting for Chan to tell them he was lying, that it was just a plastic tail that he brought. But non of that happened. Minho went in front of them and called Changbin over.
Minho trusted Changbin to help him get into the cart without hurting his boyfriend. He’s very gentle and strong, just perfect for this type of mission.
As they were carrying Chan on the cart, they tickled him taking his fins and scales move a bit.
“Holly shit, it’s real” said Hyunjin
- “Yes it’s real, now come over here and help!” Exclaimed Minho “Babe when you said your tail was heavy, I thought you were just exaggerating.”
“Yea, no. It’s a pain, but you guys got this!” Chan replied in between giggles.
“God Chan, stop moving or else i’ll drop you” said Changbin.
“Sorry, it’s just that my tail is sensitive and it feels as if your ticking me”
“Jeonginie, jisungie come hurry or else I’m really going to drop him” called out Changbin
The two got close and helped the other two get Chan on top of the cart.
Once Chan was safely in the cart, they all pushed it outside. Hyunjin and Felix were in charge of Chan’s tail and making sure it’s weight wouldn’t flip the cart over. Changbin and Seungmin were on one side of the cart, while Jisung and Jeongin were on the other. Minho was at the end pushing the cart from the two handles and steering it to the water with the help of the wooden slabs he put down. Once they were at the shore, Minho gently pushed the cart down, letting the tide take his boyfriend.
Chan couldn’t believe it, the water on his tail felt so welcoming. He couldn’t help it but to dash once the tide rushed him further into the ocean. He swam and swam and swam, going faster with each stroke of his tail. Spinning under water, jumping, diving, he was having a blast being in his home again. It wasn’t until a few moments later that he saw his boyfriend call him over. Chan feeling refreshed thought it was an amazing idea to sit on top of a rock.
- “Hello my mermaid, my beautiful mermaid.”
Minho said stroking Chan’s hair out of his face.
- “I’m here to inform you that the others are going out to eat. Do you want me to making you something?”
“No I’m fine, you should join them though. I don’t want you to miss a meal.”
- “Don’t worry too much about me, I’ll rather be here watching you have fun.”
“hmm, okay then” Chan replied
- “What’s up? Whats going on in that pretty head of yours?”
“I know that you can’t swim, and you never let me take you into the water in my human form, but can I umm…take you for a swim in my mermaid form?”
Minho doesn’t say anything for a while and Chan can’t exactly see what Minho’s expression is. He’s too scared of being rejected, it’s childish yes, but this is Chan in his realest form. It would make him so happy to have Minho by his side in the water. But if Minho said no, he would respect his boyfriend’s wishes.
“It’s okay if you don’t want to, it was just an idea.” Chan adds fast
- “Alright”
“Okay, well I’ll just be swimming here, you should go with the others and-”
- “Baby, I said alright to you taking me swimming.” Minho smiles at Chan.
Chan lights up and leans closer to his boyfriend “Really?”
- “Yes, really you cutie” Minho replies scrunching his nose
He takes off his shirt throwing it to the sand next to some towels the others left for Chan when they realized that he wasn’t going to get out soon. Chan gets off the rock while Minho steps closer to the water. Chan smiles dumbly as his boyfriend laches on to him, wrapping his arms around Chan’s neck, and his legs around Chan’s torso.
- “I swear Bang Chan if you let go of me I will tell your parents that you forgot to take your pills.”
“I’m never letting you go, you already know too much, I can’t let you go anymore.” Chan says to his boyfriend, squeezing him tighter, feeling happier.
“plus this position is the reason I forgot to take my pills baby” He whispers into Minho’s ear making the other blush furiously.
- “Shut up and swim, or else I’m leaving.”
Chan giggled pressing kisses on his boyfriends face.
“Anything you say.”
- “Damn right!”
