Chapter Text

There are a few things that come with being an omega.
Heats, being far too susceptible to an Alpha’s command, having to be on a ton of suppressants so you don’t go around smelling like walking sex .

But the most prominent one, probably, was lack of choice.

It was a joke, initially, when you sent in an application to UA Hero Preparatory school. You didn’t think they’d accept you at all. Heroism was an Alpha-only gig- they’d only this year begun to take in Betas. You just sent in a request thinking it would be funny to get accepted into a hero program when Omegas weren’t even allowed to go to real high schools in the first place- if you were Uber rich, you could go to the specialized early childhood education programs, or even culinary school so that you could raise kids or keep an Alpha or two happy-

But a glitch in the computer system had all but thrown a empire-state-building-sized wrench in your plans.

You got accepted, and you got a full ride, and your paperwork Read Beta.

Oh.

You were not a beta. You were very much an omega, who didn’t have many options. And you really, REALLY wanted to be a hero. Ever since you were a little girl, you wanted to be a hero. You were always told that it was impossible, that you couldn’t even go to highschool, that you were never going to be anything but a wife, mother- or a comfort item.

This school was giving you a full ride, it had an amazing hero program… you weren’t going to let it go just because it was only for Alphas and Betas. That was unfair- sexist even.

You’d already been accepted based on your grades- if you could pass the entrance exam, no one needed to know that maybe you were born with two Uteruses and the ability to handle a knot.

You did what any rational person would do, you bought illegal suppressants on the dark web, you meticulously tracked your heat to ensure its duration would happen during school breaks, and you got used to being called a Beta.

When transfer season started, you practically buzzed with anxious anticipation. You weren’t necessarily shy, but you knew that if anyone found out about your situation, you’d be expelled, and you’d never be able to finish schooling, and you’d probably be forcibly mated like all other Omegas that tried to step out of line-Omegas were getting rarer and rarer these days. One per every five alphas. It’d gotten so bad Alphas were starting to mate each other- Betas just couldn’t measure up, couldn’t handle ruts or knots. Omegas were being assigned two, three Alphas at a time- which was fine, considering female Omegas had two Uteruses- one accessible through the vagina, the other the anus- male omegas, while a little rarer- were lucky, with only one uterus and heats that were half as long.

One of your cousins was a male omega- had SIX mates- poor guy had been pregnant for the last five years straight, and TWO of his Alphas were female! The group had eight kids altogether, and he was expected to stay home with them all as the Omega- You’d rather die than live a life like that.

Your entire life was riding on your ability to accurately portray a Beta.

It was maybe a little helpful that your power was incredibly strong, and stereotypically Alphan by nature.

You were a capacitor. You could absorb, store, and expel energy. Kinetic and potential, as well as quirk energy used on you. Electricity, grenades, even nuclear power can be stored and used by your body. You were a walking bomb.

You could use the power to do other things too, manipulate your voice’s pitch, volume and value, you could empower your hits, and, if you had enough power, you could expel waves and fly.

Which, of course, made it incredibly easy to pass the entrance exam.

And now, here you are! The very first day of UA hero University. Most of these students have known each other since middle school, and you were alone in more ways than one-

You’d been homeschooled- most Omegas were.

It was a stroke of genius alone that had you forging an acceptance letter from a prestigious Omegan boarding school to give to your parents- and yeah, maybe you felt a little bad about it, but it was wholly necessary.

You worked in silence, unpacking your things in your dorm- until one green-haired student who’s dorm is directly across from yours leans on your doorjamb.

“Uh hey! I’m Izuku Midoriya- I was asking around and uh- you’re new too?” His voice was higher-pitched, and breathy. You swallowed, paused the organizing of your desk and regarded him fully. He smelled like a Beta- it was fine for you to dorm so close together- it’s not like there would be any hanky-panky going on- especially without any omegas around.

“Too?” You asked, maybe if you got him talking more. You wouldn’t have to talk about yourself and possibly give yourself away.

“Oh, yeah. You, me, and Todoroki.” He pointed to a boy with split hair down the hall talking to a boy with glasses. “He went to private schools ‘cuz his Dad’s Endeavor. I went to a Quirkless school… I was a late bloomer.” He grinned. “What about you?” He asked, tilting his head.

“Uh… I just… went to a different school.” you trailed off, and realized he was waiting for something else. “Oh- uh- the names (Y/N).” You offered, waving awkwardly.

“Oh cool! So- have you given any thought to what kind of school club you want to be in? You don’t look like a sports type.” He regarded you carefully, and you became increasingly self-conscious.

Absolutely no sports. The showers and changing rooms were a definite no-go, since your scent patches would be too visible. Not to mention, you were not going to do well against all of the six-foot-tall and above muscled jocks even if you were actually a beta.

“Ah- no clubs. I just wanna do my schoolwork and graduate with my hero License.” You shook your head, and he frowned.

“Oh- but you have to- it’s part of your credits to graduate- what about theater?” He suggested, you frowned.

Drama club was also not gonna fly, quick changes and measurements would leave you exposed, and again, exposure meant expulsion.

“I don’t uh… like being in front of a lot of people like that.” You tried, and he nodded.

“So, that leaves the photography club. Easy enough. Nice and quiet, and you should have plenty of time to yourself. It’s where Todoroki’s going!” He grinned at you, the overly friendly type. You offered him a small smile and nodded.

“Yeah, that sounds nice.” You nodded, and he blushed. His eyes went wide.

“Uh- yeah. So. I’ll see you there?” He started to grow awkward, blushing like mad. You’d seen that look before. Fuck- you took a discreet sniff of your hair after his back was turned. No, your pheromones were undetectable. He had no idea- somehow, you never calculated this into your risk report. Someone thinking you were cute outside of your secondary sex designation.

“I guess- ah, I’ll have to tell my boyfriend that I might not be able to make it to dinner those nights.” You added in a total lie to get a point across. You could watch his hopes sink in real time.

“I’ll hold you to it.” He smiled anyway, and left the doorway to go into his own room. He left his door open.
