Chapter Text
Immediately after you walked into The Burrow, you were engulfed in a hug by Bill which caused a bit of your anger to dissipate.
“It’s good to see you (Name),” Bill commented after he had let you go. Peering over Bill’s shoulder, you could see Tonks moving over to one of the chairs in the dining room in The Burrow to sit down.
“Good to see you too, Bill.” You replied. “Love what you’ve done with your hair,” you added cheekily.
Bill chose not to respond to that remark and instead held out his hand. A beautiful woman with silvery hair and glittering blue eyes stood up from the table and glided over to Bill, placing her hand in his as she drew level with him.
“This is my fiancée, Fleur,” Bill introduced. “Fleur, this is (Name) one of my friends from Hogwarts.”
“It is a pleasure to meet you,” Fleur gushed after she’d kissed both your cheeks. “Bill speaks of you often.”
“Likewise.” You commented with a grin, “Congratulations on your Charms and Runes Masteries! Bill told me that you had earnt those in his last letter. The three Runes you created for your final project helped us out in a tricky situation in Germany.”
Fleur’s accent grew a little thicker due as she responded, “My work made it to Germany?! I must write to my sister! She bet me that my work would only make it as far as the Italian Alps in the first year of its creation.” Her tone was cheerful and she turned away from you and Bill in order to send an owl to her sister.
“What situation did her Runes help you with?” Bill asked eagerly.
You frowned slightly as you noticed the worried gazes of Tonks and Mr. and Mrs. Weasley, “Let’s just say that a vampire was close to attracting muggle attention, and the magical communities of Germany, Bulgaria, and Romania needed to step in to prevent the situation from escalating further and prevent the possibility of future attacks.”
Bill shuddered in response. You had a feeling that he, out of everyone, would be able to read between the lines of what you’d just said considering his experience as a Curse Breaker and an employee at Gringotts Wizarding Bank. Composing himself, he turned to Fleur.
“Actually Fleur, could you stay here? I think we might need your opinion on this matter.”
Fleur turned around to face you and Bill. A look passed between the two of them and Fleur nodded.
You rubbed your hand over your face, “Tonks explained it all to me when I finished at the Ministry. Basically,” you caught yourself before you said Voldemort’s name, “You-Know-Who returned at the end of Harry Potter’s fourth year. To the surprise of many, not only did the Minister believe Harry about his return but also asked Harry for a memory as proof in order to prepare Wizarding Britain. Since Fudge chose this course of action, You-Know-Who’s plans to operate in secrecy had to be disregarded and moved out into the open at the end of Harry’s fifth year. Because he chose to attack a protector of a magical minor for the fifth time, it appears that Lady Magic intervened. It seems that she removed his ability to wield magic and because his body was built from magic, it could no longer sustain him and he died for good.”
The wizards and witches in the room nodded to confirm what you were saying.
“Since his defeat, a lot has changed. Sirius Black has been declared innocent by the Wizengamot and Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy have divorced. Their Marriage contract stated that they only needed to produce an heir and both of them realised that they’d grown apart. They figured it would be better if they divorced and Draco is currently living with his father.”
“Didn’t you meet him while you were at Hogwarts?” Tonks questioned. “I have a faint memory of someone telling me that you and Merula worked together to babysit him.”
You chuckled wryly, “I did meet Lucius and Draco when I was at Hogwarts. I met Dobby too, come to think of it. Working with Merula and babysitting Draco were not easy tasks.”
“I can imagine,” Mrs. Weasley stated.
Her tone was frosty and you remembered about the feud between the Weasleys and the Malfoys. Figuring that it would be best if you changed the topic, you continued recounting what Tonks had told you. A part of you wished that she’d sent all this information in a letter but since Fudge had enacted the War Time protocol, sending mail had been heavily restricted.
“The Ministry requested that I return to Magical Britain to work in a research capacity to determine whether any laws had been cursed or magically altered behind the scenes. Somehow Sirius and Lucius both received word that I would be returning and they both submitted Letters of Intent to Court me. On the same day.” Your tone took on a frustrated edge by the end of your speech and some of your anger returned.
Tonks groaned apologetically, “It’s because of your fame and renown for your actions with the Cursed Vaults at Hogwarts. If it helps, it’s not public knowledge yet that they’ve both submitted those letters.”
Molly’s tone was gentle as she nudged Arthur and looked pointedly at Bill, “We’ll leave you to discuss the matter privately.”
