A chase like any other

Summary:

Just your average cat and mouse game between Gepard and Sampo, but something doesnt seem right..

Notes:

tada! fluff, i like the idea of sampo immedietly dropping all acts the second anything happens to gepard. its all a game until someone messes with his captain. theyre mutually pining and they like, know it, but also theyre too busy being yknow a guard and a con-man but also too flustered sdfghj

Work Text:

It's a chase like any other.
Thrilling, weaving through the back streets of Belobog, taking routes and cut throughs he knew like the back of his hand, all while his adored captain fought to keep up with him.
It was a chase like any other, until it wasn't.

The street had gone quiet, no one in sight, no sound of running footsteps clad in armor fighting to keep up with him.
In any other circumstance Sampo would have thought he’d simply outrun and lose the captain as he always did. If not for the fact, firstly it was too early in the chase to lose the captain, secondly he was just behind him a few streets ago.
Where was he?
Sampos pace slowed, his smile slowly falling as he looked around.
“Captain?” he called out to the empty street. Tentatively, he began to backtrack.

Sampo would deny that he was worried. He’d say if anyone asked that he simply wanted to make sure the captain was gone for good.
But.. that's not true now is it? He was worried.. Plain and simple. He always fought the maddening urge to be near the captain, he knew it was true the other way around as well. It's just.. Wasn't in the cards to do anything about that urge.
Of course all those ideas of keeping distance were long gone as the further he walked back, the less he saw of the captain.

Until…
A soft shuttery gasp just down an alleyway. Sampos head jerked and he saw the glittering armor and the remains of a fragmentum monster. One of those small ones that flutter around and are more a nuisance than a threat.
So why does Gepard look so disheveled..

Tentatively, like a skittish cat taking food from a stranger, he stepped closer. Flinching back as Gepard reached for his own leg.
“Gepard?” he whispered.
The blond captain looked up and then Sampo saw the problem. The razor wings of the monster had sliced clean through his leg armor and into the flesh of his lower calf, dangerously close to his achilles, to run any further or push himself could mean graver injury.

Sampo stared for a moment, Gepard stared back, breathing heavily as he fought through pain and exhaustion, the slice was deep and red, certainly requiring medical attention as the blood pooled under him.
“You're not going to run?” came the captain's shaky voice. Sampos' gaze flicked from baby blue eyes back down to the wound, back up.
He swallowed. Truth be told he really should run..
But…

Before he knew it he was jogging the rest of the distance between them and slid beside Gepard, rummaging through his bag, between the little boxes with bombs in them and more bombs he pulled out a similar looking little heart shaped box, this one red.

Gepard could only watch as Sampo was quickly applying some sort of disinfectant and wrapping the wound tightly.
“I'm taking you to the underworld clinic.” the captain blinked.
“But the-”
“Look i know it's closer up here but i'm not risking my neck doing a good deed.” he shot the captain a smug smile to which the other just rolled his eyes. But Sampo preened seeing the little smile that graced his beautiful features.

Effortlessly, and with no hesitation, he pulled the captain, armor and all, up into his arms in a bridal carry. He started walking, making it a point to smash his heel down into the remains of the fragmentum creature, digging it in. He let his rage for the insolent beast, for daring to hurt Gepard, fester and fume under his skin, before he heard Gepard cough with a little laugh.
“I took care of it, Sampo, it's dead.”

The thief blinked and smiled, pulling himself together.
“Why of course my dear captain, only double checking.” he purred.
“..and i can walk y'know…” Gepard murmured, but the blue haired man bristled at the thought.
“Nonsense! Sampo would never allow a patient to put himself in harm's way!” he insisted, full of saccharine false charm but Gepard could see the worry in his gaze. The way his smile strained and his brows reset into a scowl too quickly.

Sampo walked, humming softly. Though he was surprised when he felt the captain weave his arms around the con-man’s neck, and bury his face under his chin.
“Maybe you aren't all that bad..” he heard the blond murmur, but Sampo pretended not to hear. Not wanting to break whatever spell the captain was under that made him so cuddly.
With a choppy breath he continued on, fighting the blush crawling up his neck, praying the captain wouldn't notice..
