Waiting For You

Summary:

They had not been together for long, but it surely had taken far too long for it to happen. Between Overwatch and many long talks and even a second Omnic War, far too much had happened before they finally got themselves figured out.
Wasn’t it weird to think that just a few weeks back her mornings would never start like this?

--

Or, Angela’s slow morning while cuddling with her girlfriend in bed.

Notes:

I’m spending the month in my home country at my grandma’s house and started listening to Bossa Nova again, so blame all that for me writing this in one night while I have 5 WIPS sitting in my drafts for months.

Inspired by “Só Tinha De Ser Com Você” and written while listening to “Águas Do Passado” on repeat♡

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

She woke up to soft kisses on the back of her neck and two arms wrapped around her waist.

The sun was already starting to come in through the open window, blinds only half-closed and swaying lightly with the breeze. It took her a moment to blink the sleep away, but Angela smiled as she leaned back into Fareeha’s lips as soon as she did. She had always been the kind to be up with the sun, both of them had.

”Good mornin’” she mumbled, voice still tired and low.

She felt as Fareeha pulled back slightly, whispering a low and raspy Good Morning back right by her ear, sending a warm feeling all the way through her body.

She brought her hands to the other’s arms, caressing her skin softly.

The blankets felt heavy atop of them, but it was warm and comfortable and she could not be bothered to move, them or herself, just yet.

”Have you been up long?” she asked, allowing her eyes to close once more, though they hadn’t quite opened fully yet.

The reply took a moment, just a few, in which she could feel and hear the other’s breathing, the way her chest moved up and down slowly.

”Just for a bit… didn’t mean to wake you yet” She could feel Fareeha bury her nose in her hair, and plant a kiss there as well.

How she loved the way her voice sounded so early in the day, filled with sleep, her accent thicker than at any time of day. She could hear the other talk for hours to no end, especially if it meant to stay like this.

They had not been together for long, but it surely had taken far too long for it to happen. Between Overwatch and many long talks and even a second Omnic War, far too much had happened before they finally got themselves figured out.

Wasn’t it weird to think that just a few weeks back her mornings would never start like this?

”Breakfast?” she heard her ask, voice almost completely muffled thanks to her hair.

Angela breathed in and out slowly, starting to shift in bed.

”Not yet..”

Finally turning so they were face to face, eye to eye, Fareeha’s hands now rested on the small of her back, still holding her close. She took her time to do nothing but take in her girlfriend’s face, almost mesmerized by the way the sun seemed to shine on her and her only, leaving her skin glowing and eyes shining. Her hair was a beautiful mess, and she would likely complain about untangling it for at least three full minutes before realizing it wasn’t that bad.

She couldn’t help but lean in and place a kiss right on the gap between her girlfriend’s eyebrows, letting her lips linger there for a bit. She smiled, watching how that made her cheeks darken.

Moments like this… how did she live without them before? Perhaps she didn’t know how to miss something she had never quite experienced.

Still, she couldn’t help but wonder just how it could be possible for someone to look this beautiful. How it could be possible for her to feel this much love for someone.

In early mornings like this, when your brain is still hazy with sleep, it was the perfect time to say the most silly of things.

“You know, sometimes I feel like my heart had always been waiting for you.” Angela giggled, hand going up to brush a strand of hair away from her girlfriend’s eyes. Wasn’t that the only way to explain it? The way she had never felt such things until her?

She loved to watch how her smile grew.

After a second, as if she was thinking of what she really said, Fareeha replied,

“Really?”

Her gaze was soft, drawing her in.

”Is that weird?”

The response this time was immediate,

”No, I feel the same way.”

Fareeha leaned in, and so did she, their lips meeting in the middle in a soft, warm kiss. It was slow, there was no rush when it was so early in the day, when they were both like this. Her breath likely tasted terrible, and there was probably still dried up drool on the corners of her mouth, but her girlfriend did not seem to mind (or notice). While it lasted seconds or an eternity didn’t matter, but it left her wanting more as they pulled back.

With her cheeks tinted red, Fareeha smiled at her once more, and it made her want to kiss her all over again, and again, and again.

They kept their gazes locked on one another, noses just barely not touching with mere milimetres separating their faces.

And they just stayed there, Angela’s arms pushing their way around to also hug her girlfriend’s waist, their legs entangling with one another.

For the next moments to come, not a word was spoken by either of them. They didn’t have the need to say anything.

When had silences ever been this comfortable? When had anything ever been this comfortable, before Fareeha?

At times like this it was all very clear. She had always been only hers, only Fareeha’s.

Why had there ever been any doubt of that? Had there ever been any doubt of that? Had either of them truly been anyone else’s but each other’s?

It was sappy. Cheesy, even. She knew it was. She had always rolled her eyes at things like this, before. Now, she didn’t care. When it came to Fareeha, she wanted to be as sweet and sappy as one can be.

They stayed cuddled up in bed, her arms and hands reaching up to play with the ends of Fareeha’s hair, while they both kept on holding each other close. Time went on and on, yet neither of them showed any signs of wanting to stand up or move. Angela was more than happy to stay exactly as they were, for as long as it was.

Whether an hour had passed or a mere few minutes, it did not matter. They continued to enjoy each other’s embrace, their breathing even as their chests moved up and down almost against one another.

What rush did could she even have, when the girl of her dreams was in her arms and there was not a single other thought in her head?
