Work Text:
A ball of paper nearly hit Data as he entered Geordi’s quarters, but his reflexes kicked in approximately 3.6 seconds before the wadded sheet would have bounced off his face. Data caught the paper and looked curiously on at his boyfriend.
“Geordi, may I inquire as to what you are doing?” He asked the engineer who was sitting at the desk in his quarters, furiously scribbling on another sheet of paper. Throughout the room, he saw more balls of paper littered around. Some were in different shades, including one that almost seemed identical to their yellow uniforms
“Data!” Geordi shouted, grabbing the piece of paper he had been writing on and holding it behind his back, “I didn’t hear you come in. I was just -“
Geordi stopped speaking just as Data opened the crumpled ball of paper in his hand and read.
Ode to Data
He looked up at Geordi who was looking back at him with what he had heard described as sheepishness. He mentally filed away a reminder to look up the etymology of that term later.
“You’re always writing poetry about, well, everything,” Geordi explained, “And I really appreciated the poetry you wrote about me, so I thought I’d return the favour.”
Data thought back to the poem he had presented to Geordi in this very room two days ago. It was a bit of an experimental piece and Data had been unsure how it would be received. However, the passionate kiss that Geordi had given him when he was done reciting indicated that it was a successful experiment.
“Except,” Geordi continued, “I’ve never been a word guy, so anytime I try to write something, it never comes out right. I even tried recording something like a 20th century hip hop song, but it didn’t feel right.”
Data approached Geordi slowly. He was still hiding the piece of paper behind his back.
“May I see?” Data asked, extending his hand out.
Geordi sighed and handed Data the paper. He noticed there was a bit of a sparkle to this page. Written all over the page was the same message over and over.
I love you.
“It’s the only way I -“
Data cut Geordi off by pressing his lips to Geordi’s.
“It is more than sufficient,” he told Geordi after they broke apart.
