Chapter Text
Katsuki is getting tired of that blond guy with the weird smile; he thinks he's better than everyone else, which is why he's always trying to piss Katsuki off because he's actually the only one who doesn't believe anything that he says.
But he must admit, he's getting on his nerves that morning.
"Just ignore him, Bakubro," Kirishima says, looking a little bit tense, probably because Katsuki is infamous for his explosive personality. Sometimes he wishes he could actually blast things off with his hands; he would have made that presumptuous guy shut up already. "Mina told me one of the cheerleaders (that cute new guy actually) turned him down and that's why he's been like that lately."
"Ha! I knew Monoma couldn't get himself a date!" Kaminari laughs then, but he's loud enough for the guy in question to hear.
"He wasn't even that cute," Monoma comments, getting closer to their table, which is why Katsuki starts cursing Kaminari internally. "Besides, you can't say anything if you're bitchless."
Kaminari grimaces then, but looks down at his bowl instead.
"FUCK OFF!" Katsuki growls; he's not in the mood to tolerate stupid people.
"Blasty!" Monoma grins. "Can't believe you're even more pathetic than your friend there! Because people do seem to find you attractive, but they say you're too intimidating to date. Bet you don't even know how to ask someone out!"
"I'M THE BEST AT EVERYTHING! SO SHUT UP!"
"Don't listen to him, Bakubro."
"You don't have what it takes–"
"You know what? Shitty hair is right, I'm wasting my time here," he seriously needs to start his essay after all, but he's not going to say that because he doesn't want to look like a nerd. "Besides, I don't have time to date anyone."
"What? Are you afraid of getting rejected?"
Katsuki has been trying to control his anger, but sometimes it's really difficult, especially with idiots like Monoma around.
"I bet you can't ask one of the cheerleaders out and take them to the school dance as your date."
"That's enough, Monoma..."
"Don't worry, I'm not making him ask your precious Ashido out. Good for you for landing that one, by the way."
Kirishima narrows his eyes; he always gets upset when someone like Monoma mentions his girlfriend.
"I told you to fuck off! I'm not interested!"
"Seriously? No one? Look, the cheerleaders are just walking in the cafeteria! What about that last one who looks like a nerd?"
Katsuki's heart starts beating in a funny way inside his chest as soon as he sees those green curls; he recognizes those freckles and that laugh, although he must admit, the thick thighs are new... No! Why is his mind going in that direction?
Still, Izuku looks really good in the cheerleader's uniform.
Katsuki has to shake his head and blink a couple of times in order to snap himself out of it. He can feel his own face turning red.
That's his childhood friend. The one he thought he lost, the one he didn't treat that well when they were kids because he used to have a crush on him and didn't know how to handle it back then.
But he does now... right? Although it's not like Katsuki still has a crush on Izuku.
At that moment Izuku starts giggling at something one of his friends says and his cheeks turn slightly pink; Katsuki's heart becomes louder, almost like it's trying to tell him something.
Alright, maybe he still does.
"So you ask him out, go on a couple of dates with him and then you can break up with him after the dance."
"No. I'm not going to do that."
"You're no fun!" Monoma sighs dramatically. "I'll have to ask someone else instead..."
"No, I'll do it!"
"That's not manly, Bakubro!"
Katsuki ignores his outraged and annoying friends in order to shake that idiot boy's hand.
"But you'll have to do things for me and my friends for a month and shut your stupid mouth up."
"If I lose, Blasty." Monoma grins. "And if you do, you'll stop talking to the cute cheerleader."
Katsuki hesitates, but just for a second.
"Are you afraid to lose?"
"I always win."
"We'll see."
***
"Don't do this, Bakubro! Why would you break the poor guy's heart just for a bet?"
"Kiri is right. Besides, I know you're a jerk sometimes, but I thought you weren't that kind of a jerk," Kaminari pouts, looking from his bowl to Katsuki.
"I'm not going to break anyone's heart!" Katsuki has to lower his voice because they're still in the cafeteria. The mere thought of hurting Izuku (more than he did when they were kids) makes Katsuki feel physically ill.
No, he's going to take care of him this time. And maybe also make Izuku fall in love with him.
Just like he is already... Alright, perhaps Katsuki doesn't have just a crush on Izuku after all.
But he can't handle it this time; he's not going to panic or get overwhelmed by his own feelings.
"You're going to break up with him!"
"No," he almost growls, but the thought hurts him, even though he's not dating Izuku yet. "The idiot guy said I could, but I'm not going to."
"So you'll date someone you don't like?" Kaminari cuts in, confused. Kirishima looks seriously worried about the whole thing.
"Who says I don't like Izuku?"
"Izuku? That's the cheerleader's name? Wait... How do you know that?"
Katsuki pinches the bridge of his nose, takes a deep breath and then proceeds to tell his friends about Midoriya Izuku.
He doesn't like the fact that Kirishima looks even more concerned now.
"Of course I'll... ask for forgiveness first. I'll try to make it up to him."
"You must know that this could go very wrong. Bakubro, you should tell him the truth."
"That I made a bet about him? Yeah, way to earn his trust back!" Katsuki hisses, although he can clearly see Kirishima's point. He didn't want to do it at first, but he wasn't going to let Monoma go to someone else. Someone who could break Izuku's heart. "I told you, I'm not going to break up with him. I'm going to win the bet and stay with Izuku because I... really like him."
He loves him.
"So it's a win-win situation, right?" Kaminari relaxes immediately. "That sounds pretty good actually."
"The fact that Kamibro thinks this a good idea should tell you something," Kirishima says, almost desperate. "No offense, Kaminari!"
"Nothing bad is going to happen!" Katsuki growls before heading towards Izuku's table. On his way there he sees Ashido walking towards the opposite direction, probably to see her boyfriend.
"Where are you going, Blasty?"
Katsuki ignores her, because he's too nervous to say anything.
However, everything seems to fall into place as soon as those green eyes meet his. Oh, he's missed him so much.
He's not going to let him go this time.
"Kacchan?" Izuku jumps from his seat, before taking a few steps towards him. "It's been a while!"
"De-Izuku... Can I talk to you for a second?"
"Of course!" He beams, like nothing happened, like Katsuki was never a jerk towards him, like he never ignored him when they were kids.
A girl with brown hair glares at Katsuki before asking Izuku if he's alright.
"Yes, don't worry, Uraraka! I'll be right back!"
They get out of the cafeteria and walk around for a bit. Katsuki is nervous and it doesn't help that Izuku looks absolutely stunning in that cheerleader uniform.
"Listen, Izuku... I wanted to apologize for what happened years ago..."
"We were kids."
"That still doesn't make it, right," Katsuki argues, looking from Izuku's eyes to the ground. "I'm sorry. I truly am. It's okay if you don't want to forgive me, you don't have to, I just wanted to let you know I feel bad about what happened and I'll try to make things right if you let me–"
Izuku pulls him into his arms, prompting Katsuki to relax into the embrace almost immediately.
"I forgave you a while ago."
"Of course you did, nerd," Katsuki rolls his eyes, feeling like he doesn't deserve any of it. He forgets about everything else for a moment; he's just so glad to have seen him again.
"Let's start again, what do you think, Kacchan?"
"That's a great idea," Katsuki nods, smiling in a way he knows it makes him look like a besotted idiot, but he doesn't care because being with Izuku feels so right.
Like he never stopped seeing him, like he still knows him completely.
Everything is going to be fine.
Right?
