The way that this man had annoyed Din since he started to stay here was nothing to laugh at, in his opinion at least it wasn't funny. Din had agreed to give Paz and Ragnar a place to live while Paz was healing from the injuries that he received during the battle of taking their home world back, but Din started to regret his decision. Paz could be loud and stubborn and none of that bothered Din, but as soon as he started to move around and feel slightly better he had started to try and treat Din the same way they treated each other when they were young and in the covert together. The empty threats and teasing that came from Paz was easy to deal with, but when he started to physically touch Din with light nudges or placing his hands on Din made him feel agitated. Even at the thought of it Din started to scrub the dishes that he was finishing cleaning in a fast and rough pace. Din didn't snap out of his thoughts until he heard the scraping of a chair against the wood floor.
Din turned his head from the dishes to face the noise and just in time he caught Paz slowly pulling a chair from the dinning table, sitting down with a huff and his back facing Din. Din had turned his attention back to the dishes, rising them off in a hurry as he felt tension in his shoulders again. "Did you put the kids to sleep?" The question was asked by Din as he set the dishes away to air dry. "Yes." Paz's answer caused Din to turn around and finally face him. "Did you make sure that they rinsed out before bed and took care of their teeth?" Din crossed his arms against his chest and Paz turned around to face Din as fast as he could with the injures that were still healing. "I have done this routine with them before. I know what I doing. They are in bed, all clean and fast asleep. If you don't believe me, go check for yourself." There was a moment of silence between them. Din was happy to have help with his son and he glad that the kids got along, but the thought of Paz having a child made Din feel something throughout his whole body it made his head hurt. He couldn't put into words. "No. I don't need to check, I trust you." Paz shrugged at Din's answer. "Okay, then what is your problem?"
This was going to start a fight between again and the fact that the kids might wake up because of them was upsetting Din more than anything else. Din shook his head at Paz, ready to dismiss Paz and his temper. "No, tell me. I raised Ragnar just fine. I know how to take care of a child." Din titled his head at Paz. "Yeah, sure. When I met him, he was about to get eaten. You were a second away from giving up on him. Some parent you are." Paz got up from his seat and he turned to face Din, pointing a finger at him. "Stop it." It was a warning. Din was accusing Paz of being a neglectful father, something that wasn't taken lightly where they came from. "Who's his mother?"
The question left Din's mouth before he could think about what he was asking and if he really wanted to know the answer to that question. Paz was frozen in place at the sudden question. "What?" Paz was confused. Din took a deep breath, hesitating to ask the question again. "Who is his mother? Who did you promise yourself to?" Din had figured that Paz had moved on and found someone else, but it was a fear of his if he was honest with himself. Paz tossed his head back, laughing loudly and Din became angry with that. He frowned and he was ready to launch himself at Paz, but Paz stopped him. Paz shook his head at him. "Is this what this is about? Is that why you have been acting weird this whole time?" He smiled wide to himself, his heart felt like it was expanding in his chest. "Ragnar is a foundling and I didn't promise myself to anyone. I thought that you knew this."
Din felt relieved at the confession and he instantly relaxed. Paz took a short stride to meet Din, staring down at him. Din had no choice, but to try and meet Paz's height by standing up straight and looking up at him. "Do you think that I would betray you that easily?" Paz's question hit Din's ears underneath his helmet and he wasn't sure how to respond to Paz because he wasn't sure what to think. "I have my doubts...We were kids when we used to talk about these things, I thought that we had changed a lot since then. I thought that...you forgot. That you moved on." Paz shook his head quickly at Din, even before Din was able to finish what he was saying Paz shook his head at him. "No. Never." Paz slowly placed a hand on the back Din's neck, tilting his head forward and Din rushed to mimic him. Din placed his forehead against Paz's and he sighed heavily. "We can start over and try again." Din suggested it to Paz and he smiled to himself when he heard Paz agree.
