As Fate Would Have It

Summary:

HOLY SHIT!!

I went back and decided I wasn't happy with how the story was starting, so I rewrote the story! I went from 3416 words to 8343 words. I altered to shipping a bit and added more detail. I am working on chapter 2, and updating it in more than just detail. Thank you all for the Kudos and Comments!!

Notes:

Do be warned, I am trying to line this up with the story line a bit starting at the Alone Mission. So there is mentions of Graves and the Shadow Company killing innocent civilians and trying to kill you.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Panting, I slid on the wet ground running from these strange men wearing solid black uniforms. The men were less than kind, as they shoved and pushed people about. I passed the bodies of men, women, and children alike that these people had killed for no reason. I could faintly hear the men getting further and further away as I took shortcuts through alleys and streets to get away. I yelped as the rain had made the ground slick, causing me to fall. As I lay there, I slowly began to realize the pain in my left thigh as my adrenaline began to wear off. I must've been shot while trying to get away from the soldiers. The sound of someone's feet on the ground to my right caught my attention. Glancing right, I saw a guy with a mohawk in a different uniform. In fear, I struggled to get up and shift away, which got his attention.

"Hey, hey, it's alright. I'm not with them, I'm running just like you." The man spoke, his voice thick with a Scottish accent. Looking at him, I could see his right arm was also injured. I knew he had to be in just as much pain as myself. Slowly, I crawled over to him, now hearing the other soldiers get closer. Even looking like he had been through hell already, he managed to give me a charming smile. With his back against the wall, he began to fidget with his vest. Before I could question him, he spoke.

"This is Bravo 7-1 in the blind... how copy...?" He waited a little as he waited to hear back from what I could assume would be allies. All that could be heard around us were the sounds of rain and people getting killed in cold blood.

"Ghost, this is 7-1, do you copy?" He paused before sighing heavily both from not getting a response and from his pain.

"Fuck... Where are you Ghost...?" He grunted as he shifted to glance around the corner before grunting as he stood. I could only imagine how much pain he was truly in from how much he had already been through. It made me wonder if he knew what a good night's rest even was. I could see him struggling to stand as it was, but each step forward he took showed just how bad off he was. My heart clenched as he fell, I struggled but managed to get to his side. I gave him a bit of support as he got up enough to lean on his hip. He brought his hand up to his wound before glancing at the blood. This man seemed more relaxed than before as he pushed forward, taking cover behind a car.

"Solid." I heard him say as he took in our surroundings before he looked back at me. He offered a smile before gesturing for me to follow him.

"You can call me Soap, I'm one of the good guys. I can help you get out of here, but you'll need to trust me. Are you willing to handle a gun and kill these guys? " He asked, glancing back to make sure the men in black uniforms weren't close. I quickly caught on he wanted me to follow him, which meant going back through the other guys.

"I'm (Y/n). I'm willing to kill these assholes. They are killing innocent people, and someone needs to put a stop them." I spoke softly, keeping my voice down. My words brought a smirk to his face as he nodded. Following him closely, we stayed low to the ground and crept back the way I had come. Taking cover on the right side of a pickup truck and creeping forward. Soap stood up with a strangled 'ow' before he kept moving forward. He made a small conversation with whoever was this Ghost person as we began heading for an alley.

Soap, and I made it through an alleyway towards a house using anything we could as cover to hide us from the soldiers. My nerves were everywhere, but my instincts told me to trust the man in front of me. Something about him made my inner omega feel safe, what it was, however, I don't know. We made it into the house's garage, but the door leading inside was locked. He turned and opened the door leading to the storage closet, listening to his friend before breaking a piece of a fan blade off and wrapping an end with rope. He used it to pry open the garage door open before cautiously moving in the house. As we made it through the house, Soap gathered various materials, even picking up a head lamp to help light the way.

The further we got into the house, the more items Soap grabbed as he made quiet small talk with his friend. We got to the master bedroom only for the caged dog to spook the daylights out of me. I clung to Soap's arm when the dog began growling at us. Soap guided me to hide by the bed with him as a Shadow could be heard saying he was coming to check it out and came to investigate why the dog had growled. We stayed as quiet as possible as the soldier looked around a bit before wandering around the rest of the upstairs.

"Did you see the caged dog?" He asked over comms in a hushed voice. He led the way towards the balcony checking for anymore materials he could grab.

"You are stone cold, Simon." Soap muttered into comms once more as he picked up a few more items.

"Don't tell me..." He muttered once more as he gauged to distance from the balcony to the ground.

"I asked you not to tell me." He spoke again as he crept to the balcony, slowly climbing over the railing and jumping. He landed roughly on the ground, and I knew I was in for the same landing. I took a breath and followed him down, wincing at the pain of my leg flaring from my attempt to land on my feet. Soap gave a soft apology as he helped me up before leading me once more. The sight was out of a nightmare, Las Almas cops were also being killed on top of things. Nowhere was safe, I had been here trying to help the sick and wounded, but this was never something I foresaw. I had only been here six months, and yet I had made a great standing with everyone I came in contact with. Soap panted as he rolled his arm a bit, almost like he was testing how bad the pain was. He made small talk with his teammate, whom I now properly knew was called Ghost. Soap checked every corner of the gated alley before moving right of the alley. He stayed low and moved slowly as we climbed stairs, leading to another house. The stairs led us up to a balcony that connected to a roof. Soap climbed over the small bit of wall that divided the balcony and to the roof. Following him, I mimicked his movements despite the pain I felt in my leg.

"Stop resisting! Don't resist, understand?" A Shadow called out before a gunshot echoes. We lay still near the balcony edge as the Shadows came into view.

"Escuchame, cabron... (Listen up, asshole...) You are making a big fucking mistake!" One of the police officers spoke as the other ran for a building. The Shadow closest to us shoots the other officer at the water fountain before walking off slowly.

"You like workin' for narcos... Huh? You like money... ¡¿El dinero, hombre?! (Money, man?!)" The Shadow questioned as he approached the officer that fled for a building.

"¡¡Esto es el territorio de Las Almas!! (This is the territory of Las Almas!) No... no, no, no... please... PLEA-!!" The officer's plea was cut off by the Shadow shooting him. I flinch and look to Soap nervous. Soap gently squeezes my hand as if to offer reassurance. We slowly climb down to the ground, Soap grabs a bottle and quietly speaks to Ghost as he leads me around the fountain. As we move slowly, we overhear a conversation between two Shadows.

"...I got too much respect for these guys to go to guns unless they do."

"I bet we'd come out on top o' that fight."

"I don't wanna test my skills against 141."

"What are you thinkin'?"

"We should white flag this thing and talk, or everyone's gonna end up dead."

"You gettin' scared, dude?"

"I'm not fuckin' scared, bro. I'm not stupid either. Any movement over there? It's quiet here... Narcos got outta Dodge. It's not them I'm worried about anyway..."

"I thought you said you're not scared..."

"I'm worried, worried is different than scared..."

"Same fuckin' thing..."

"No, it's not, it's not the same thing at all..."

"I'm telling you right now, don't let these guys get in your head..."

"So, you're tellin' me you see that big boy with the skullface and you're not gonna start sweatin'?"

"I'm not gonna see him--"

"You're right, you won't see him. It's too late if you see him, you're fuckin' already dead."

I gathered a few things from their conversation. First, the guy in the skull mask must be Soap's friend, Ghost. Second, there must be more of than these two because one of the Shadows mentioned 141. That or there are others out here that I don't know about, and from the sounds of it, I don't want to meet them. Soap motioned for me to wait behind one of the stands before throwing a bottle. The Shadow quickly turned and moved to investigate what caused the bottle to shatter, with his back to us, Soap motioned for us to move inside. We crept further, finally entering the ice cream building in front of us. I remember helping some kids pay for ice cream on a hot day. The joyful smiles and rushed thanks as they scampered off. Now, the place looked like a wreck, as if someone came in and trashed the place. Damn Shadows had no respect. We entered just as the Shadow turned around to return to his position.

Soap quietly closed the door and began looking for more items he could use against the soldiers. He spoke calmly and quietly with Ghost as he picked up certain things and began making makeshift items. It wasn't long before I began to pick up on the items he needed and how to do things with him. Soap offered a smile as he moved to slip out the window. We bounced around to the other buildings, searching for weapons or more items before we came across a dead Shadow.

"Ghost, you missing a knife?" Soap asked as he examined the blade. There must've been a response because Soap smirked as he began checking the dead soldier.

"Think I found one." He chimed in again as he moved about, shifting to open the box that seemed to a type of care package.

"You came through here?" Soap questioned pausing for a moment before grabbing the explosives within the box.

"And left me?" He casually asked again as he turned to give me a reassuring smile.

"So much for no man left behind." He commented as he claimed out of the window into the back alley again.

"Taken a shine to me, then?" Soap chimed with a grin. Every bit of banter between them, even though I couldn't hear his teammate, told me they were close. From what I could gather by their conversations and by how Soap enjoyed teasing his friend, we would be meeting up with this Ghost individual. Soap motioned for me to stay behind the street stand as he quietly approached one of the soldiers. He quickly stabbed the man and pulled him down so he didn't make much noise. With his help, we took off the guards main armor and fitted it to me. He helped me set up the comms so I could hear his friend and him if I were to get separated. Arming me with a gun, Soap gave me his charming smile.

"Hey LT, I got a friend coming with me. She managed to survive the Shadows." Soap spoke into the comms to his friend on the other end.

"Johnny, what are you going to do when she slows you down? Or when she turns on you?" The man with a gravelly British accent remarked. I could understand looking out for his teammate and not trusting me, so I held no ill feelings towards his defense.

"With all due to respect, sir, these bastards killed innocents and nearly me. I came here to help not sit by and watch them die." I replied into comms as I followed behind Soap watching for any signs of the so called Shadows. I could see Soap smiling in front of me, making me feel confident in my choice of words.

"We'll see about that, now won't we?" He remarked as Soap chuckled softly. Every ounce of the male's voice made his second gender clear this man, Ghost, was an alpha.

"Yes... L.T., about to play rough with the Shadows..." Soap eagerly said as he began connecting wires and using tape to connect a mousetrap to something he pulled from the supply box.

"I like the sound 'o that." Ghost's rough voice came through comms, sounding pleased.

"Fashioned a trip mine..." Soap responed with a grin as he motioned for me to stay back a bit. Nodding, I watched him creep forward.

"A man after my own heart..." Ghost chimed calmly with a tiny hint of amusement.

"That's a scary thought." Soap replied, his voice giving away the grin he had.

"You learn fast, Johnny." Ghost commented, sounding relaxed, as if we weren't all surrounded by hostiles. Soap paused as we approached a small group of three Shadows. Their conversation finally able to be heard as we crept closer.

"I wanna find those English motherfuckers. That asshole with the mask and the other leprechaun."

"Leprechaun's-they're Irish, I told you that."

"Right. One o' those dudes with the skirts."

"It's called a kilt."

"It's a dude in a dress, that's all I know..."

Soap huffed quietly in annoyance before he made swift work of getting ready to toss a jug he rigged up. He motioned for me to be ready to shoot in case things went wrong. Nodding, I watched him throw a jug of chemicals that exploded into a mist. With precise movements, Soap pressed forward and began taking them out one by one. Moving to catch up to him, we split the ammo that was gathered off the Shadows. Nodding Soap step over towards a ledge of yet another balcony. I was sincerely beginning to hate these balconies with a passion, each one being a pain in my ass. Soap jumped over first, landing on his feet with a grunt before looking up at me.

"Come on, Bonnie, I'll catch ya." He said with a smile, I let out a huff of a laugh softly as I climbed over.

"Not with your arm hurt Soap, any other day I'm all in." I said, letting my body slide to the ground just barely getting my footing. Soap chuckled and nodded in agreement. He may not say it out loud, but I could see how his arm was killing him. My leg wasn't fairing much better, I could feel my warm blood oozing down my thigh, soaking my leggings along with the rain. I noticed another supply box across the flooded drain, I began moving towards it with Soap behind me. The rushing water making it a bit tricky to navigate, but the boys provided a distraction with their banter.

"It's pishin' it doon out here." Soap groaned as he followed me. I giggled slightly at his complaint, making him smile.

"Speak English." Ghost called back through comms.

"It's rainin' fuckin' hard!" Soap translated with a playful attitude.

"Then say so." Ghost replied, unfazed by Soap's tone.

"I did!" Soap defended himself slightly.

"Rain's good. It'll cover your tracks." Ghost explained as I looked in the direction of the church that Soap and I were told to go to.

"Covers theirs too..." Soap groaned as he checked the area for threats.

"Let's worry about you, Johnny." Ghost remarked calmly.

"So, you do like me?" Soap said with a bit of a rumble to his tone as he smirked.

"I like you alive..." Ghost replied, brushing the male off. Finally stepping forward past the rushing water, I opened the supply box and quickly pulled out the med-kit from within. Soap chuckled at my look of excitement before noticing and sitting on the chair while offering his arm. I made sure to tug his sleeve a bit higher while using some binding I found to form a tourniquet.

"You sure know what you're doing, lass." Soap said, watching me get to work on removing the bullet from his arm.

"I came here to help people, I didn't care who they were or what they got hurt by. It got me a good reputation and protection from the most unlikely people." I said, gently pulling the bullet out and quickly getting to work in using the gauze roll to fill the hole before tightly wrapping it. I undid the binding and let him move his arm before I offered him the only stim inside. He hesitated a bit before injecting himself with it.

"Good mornin', Mexico..." He breathed, sounding nearly happy.

I cut some of my leggings away and began tying the binding around my leg above the wound. Soap watched me as I used alcohol wipes to clean the clamp before going for the bullet in my thigh. I gritted my teeth in pain as I slowly pulled it out, letting to fall to the ground with a breathy 'fuck'. I began the same process of rhythmically stuffing the gauze into my wound before wrapping it tightly. Nodding to Soap, he gently squeezed my shoulder as he stood and began moving to slowly nudge a door open.

"Oh shit!! Hells fuckin' bells, look at this... Talk about some home defense..." Soap commented as we took in the sight of a shotgun connected to a tripwire. I gently touched his shoulder and led him around the building. He looked around, noticing another supply box. I followed him over to the box and let him clip the sight on to the pistol I had as he did the same to his. Soap moved back to the kitchen window and busted it in, lifting himself up through the window. I followed in, settling myself on the countertop so he could disarm the tripwire.

"Sweeeet... Don't mind if I do... Now, we're in business... Ghost..." Soap commented as he let the wire recoil after unlatching the shotgun.

"Soap..." Ghost called back over comms.

"Found a tripwire rigged to a shotgun. Disarmed it. Took the gun." Soap said as he motioned for me to follow him with a grin. I smiled and nodded as I eased myself off the countertop.

"Open hearts and minds with it, Johnny." Ghost chimed back with a very faint rumble in his tone. The rumble made my inner omega shiver slightly. I paused on the stairs in shock and a pinch of fear, I hadn't paid much attention to my second gender in years. Constantly popping heat suppressants and wearing scent blockers made it easy to forget sometimes. Soap turned towards me as if he was checking on me, I forced a smile and sped up to catch up with him. I watch as Soap enters the bathroom, searching for more items to use.

"Johnny... Graves is burning the midnight oil to find us... Why...?" Ghost questioned as if he were trying to fill in the quiet.

"Graves and Shepherd are both involved. No matter what- this is an unprecedented amount of fuckery. We need to get to the bottom of it." Soap commented, sounding pissed off, his tone carrying anger.

"Accurate and deadly fire tends to resolve these things. Right now, we're not safe here." Ghost chimed calmly through comms as Soap and I moved through the house.

"Right now... we're not safe anywhere, L.T." Soap replied as he watched me grab a few items to mimic his crafting.

"You learn quick, lass." He chimed, joining me in making the improvised weapons. I smile briefly as I focus on what I'm doing.

"You and Ghost know what you guys are doing, I'd be an idiot to not learn from you two. Especially with the situation we're all in." I spoke as I offered the items to Soap to check over. He was careful as he checked my work before offering them back with a proud grin.

"Smart girl." Ghost remarked, making me jump as I completely forgot he could hear me as well. Soap chuckled as he watched me jump he gently rubbed his inner wrist on mine. At first, I was confused before a rush of comfort washed over me, making me feel almost foggy like I had just woken up. As quickly as I relaxed, I jerked away with alarm, making him look at me with worry.

"Y-you know..?" I asked, my voice lightly trembling.

"Aye, your blocker has worn off. Don't worry, your scent isn't super strong, I can just faintly smell you." Soap replied gently, offering his wrist again to offer comfort. The only way the gland rubbing, like this, would work is if he is an alpha. With my hand shaking, I gently allowed him to rub his gland against mine. He took a minute to reassure me in a non-verbal way after a bit, I nodded to him. He nodded back before pushing forward, guiding the way to the church once more. Heavy bashing on the door had me tense, Soap got ready to shoot as he got closer to the door. He ripped open the door only for a guy to topple to the floor, slowly reaching out before going limp. Soap muttered curses before glancing back at me, I swallowed thickly before nodding to him. I caught up with him as he searched the alleyway he grabbed what I now knew was called black powder. We moved forward into a coffee shop, the railing broken and the place feeling eerie with it being so empty. The boys once again provided a distraction with their playful banter.

"I'm in the coffee shop." Soap chimed as he looked around.

"Get us a tea." Ghost remarked making Soap roll his eyes.

"Fucking Brits... You're gonna owe me for this." Soap replied back as he began prying open a door.

"Why?" Ghost questioned.

"We're fixing each other's problems." Soap replied with a grin as the door gave way.

"What's my problem?" Ghost asked almost sounding offended.

"The mask... Take it off..." Soap commented as he began looking over the safe inside the office he had just broken into.

"Show my face?" Ghost questioned playing along to Soap's joke.

"Yes, sir." Soap replied with his smile growing.

"Negative." Ghost stated firmly.

"Are you ugly?" Soap asked, the safe finally popping open.

"Quite the opposite." Ghost stated once more with a calm tone.

"I doubt that." Soap remarked glance back at me with a playful sarcastic look. I snorted lightly at their commentary with each other. Soap smiled and handed me a knife, gently showing me how to hold it.

"This is a throwing knife, hold it like this then bring it back and throw it at the Shadows. You can always get this back and reuse it, so keep it with you if possible." Soap explained as he guided me through the motions of throwing it. I nodded with a look of determination as we both moved to check the rest of the upper floor for any supplies. I look out the window and freeze, gathering out front is a group of Shadows. Soap joins me to see what I'm looking at before cursing as he locked eyes with the group below.

"Steamin' Jesus, we just can't get a break." Soap groaned lightly. I shifted to peek over the railing examining as much of the shop below as I could before turning back to Soap.

"I have an idea that might help." I whispered moving next to Soap.

"Please do share, I'm all ears." Soap remarked settling himself a bit to listen to me.

"We can toss the trip mines at all the entry points and take cover while waiting for them to enter. If this is the right shop I'm thinking of, there should be tables and bars to sit at. We can take cover there and let them enter and thin the line. We'll need to be careful, it looks like they have shotguns." I explained looking out over the group the was closing in. Soap didn't even give time to think about it before he nodded.

"Sounds like a plan, lass. Let's give this a go." Soap remarked carefully jumping down to the main floor, with me trailing behind. As we got down to the main floor we could hear two soldiers talking.

"You two, check out that warehouse." The first one leading the group explained.

"Guy's got no gun, he won't get far." The second remarked.

"He's 141... Still dangerous. Go left, I'll clear the alley." The first responded as he began to move.

"Roger, on it." The second spoke up again. We moved according to the plan, quickly and quietly placing the trip mines at the doors before moving for cover. I slide behind the bar and gave a silent cheer at the sight of a shotgun. If what they had said was correct and Soap is a part of 141, then I probably couldn't be safer. We didn't have to wait long before the mines got tripped one by one. Soap was kneeling by the last bar, his back turned, facing the back door as a Shadow was making his way there. I moved on instinct throwing the knife at one of the men that had entered the door behind him. Soap shot the soldier entering the door in front of him before nodding at me, both of us thinning the group carefully. I resisted the urge to cheer when no more men were trying to enter the shop.

"Great work, (Y/n)! Let's loot them for ammunition, we'll need it." Soap remarked moving to loot the bodies near him. Nodding, I moved to collect my knife and ammo, I moved back to the bar and cleared it off. Placing down the ammo, I began to separate it equally before calling to Soap. He smiled and sorted out the ammo he picked up as well, smiling I gather my portion. We exit the coffee shop out the back door leading to the alley. Soap led the way to the auto repair shop where he searched for more items to use. Ghost calmly talked him through making a molotov, while Soap quietly showed me how to make it. I looked over the open laptop as he continued to search the area, an excited whistle caught my attention.

"Got ourselves another safe." Soap expressed excitedly. I giggle and move into the office where he had just knelt down to it.

"37, 60, 80" I explained to him. Soap looked confused before dialing it in on the safe. With a noise of confirmation, it popped open causing Soap to look at me with curiosity.

"There is an open laptop out there that had the previous safe and this one's code open in a notepad." I explained with a soft smile. Soap took this knife for himself before he motioned for us to move.

"Johnny, (Y/n)... town's full o' tunnels. One leads out across from the church. Be advised- the tunnel is flooded. Prepare for a cold swim." Ghost warned over comms. His mention of cold water was both welcome but annoying, on one hand I was burning up but then again a cold swim wasn't my idea of cooling down.

"Can't wait." Soap muttered seeming to share my thought process. Getting low and following him towards the bar, Soap gave a smirk and lightly motioned to comms.

"L.T.- I'm at the bar." Soap informed.

"You like tequila?" Ghost questioned back.

"Could use one right about now." Soap remarked glancing at the wall of alcohol.

"I'd murder for a whiskey." Ghost said his tone sounding relaxed.

"You mean Scotch?" Soap said sounding more liek he was correcting Ghost.

"I drink bourbon." Ghost expressed in a matter-of-fact tone.

"Like a good ol' boy..." Soap rumbled teasingly.

"I love Kentucky." Ghost said nonchalantly.

"You're out o' your mind, L.T." Soap chuckled as we moved to the court yard in front of the bar.

"That's for sure." Ghost chimes in. We climb up the stairs to another balcony and look over a vending yard. There in the vending yard patrolling are four more Shadows, looking back I see Soap holding a molotov up and I nod. We both toss molotovs before ducking into the small room at the top of the stairs. The screams of the burning Shadows fade before two voices of the last two take their place. I ready my pistol and Soap nods as we both crept towards the other two. With little thinking time Soap leads the way in firing at them. With freedom from Shadows for the moment Soap sighs in relieve, moving towards the memorial.

"The apartments here could be open, we could search for more items to use." I suggest pointing to the other buildings. Soap nods and moves with me to check them. Sure enough, the buildings are open for the most part, giving us a bit of access to the main floors.

"Soap- you makin' progress?" Ghost questioned.

"Aye. Gettin' there..." He remarked as he searched near me.

"Two goldfish are in a tank...?" Ghost started. I couldn't help but smile eagerly waiting for their usual banter.

"Go on..." Soap took a deep breath with a grin.

"One turns to the other and says... "You know how to drive this thing?" Little army humor." Ghost finished his voice carrying a smile.

"Very little..." Soap sighed sounding unamused, despite his tone he was smiling. I snorted a bit at the joke softly shaking my head.

"Another?" Ghost asked.

"I got one for you..." Soap spoke up as he moved back to make more weapons with me.

"Let's hear it..." Ghost encouraged lightly.

"Why was the strawberry crying?" Soap started being cautious as he starts the joke.

"Why?" Ghost asked.

"Because, he was in a jam." Soap commented with a quiet chuckle. I giggle and shake my head at him playfully to which he shrugs at softly.

"Not bad... We can do this all night..." Ghost expresses lightly.

"That's what I'm afraid of." Soap says as he leads the way back to the memorial fountain. Sighing, I mutter about how tired I am of climbing over balconies, my comments make Soap chuckle as he gently rubs my back. I go first this time taking a deep breath and holding it as I slide into the cold water. Soap follows behind me and chuckles at my gasp and forced slow exhale. He gently rubs my arms before looking towards the tunnel that isn't blocked off.

"Ghost..." Soap checks in.

"Talk to me, Johnny..." Ghost immediately answers.

"We found the tunnel." Soap informs him gently holding my hand as he slwoly leads the way through the water.

"The church plaza is on the other end of the tunnel. Push through, you're nearly here." Ghost explains before going quiet once more. As we slowly push forward more Shadows can be heard talking.

"Where the hell are they?!"

"Maybe, they're both dead."

"Graves wants proof."

"Just cut the mask off."

"Do I get a bonus for that...?"

"Not if I beat you to it."

"I'll kill the Irish one."

"The kid's Scottish, not Irish."

"It's the same fuckin' thing...!"

Soap cursed quietly, gently pressing me backwards away from the Shadows. He guides me behind a car that is stuck in the flooded tunnel.

"Ghost, I got Shadows wearing body armor." Soap expresses slowly peaking out towards the Shadows.

"You'll have to get in close and find the gaps." Ghost explains as if he were here.

"Rog. (Y/n) stay here while I clear them out." Soap explains quietly, diving under the waters before I can even reply. I can hear him taking them out, the sounds growing more and more distant. As I wait for Soap, I begin to realize that either I'm adjusting to the coldness of the water or... or my body is going into to the early stages of a heat. It would make sense from how stressful the situation is while having an alpha directly rub his scent gland on my own. When was the last dose of my heat suppressants? I snapped out of my thoughts as Soap returned to me, his chilled hands gently cupping my face.

"Are you nearing your cycle? I can smell your scent clearer than before." He quietly asks gently holding my face. He must've seen the worry in my eyes because he gently rumbles to me offering comfort.

"I-I don't know, it could be a stress heat.." I mutter as I try to hide against him. Soap nods in understanding as he gently guides me towards the exit of the tunnel. Soap stays a bit closer since my scent picked up a bit. We climb the stairs finally reaching the surface, I breath a sigh of relief at the sight of the church.

"You got eyes on the church?" Ghost asks calmly.

"Aye." Soap remarks looking toward the church.

"Good. You're on the right track. Keep comin'." Ghost informs calmly.

"Ghost, area's blocked off." Soap comments as he looks around us seeing the different areas blocked off by cars or barb wire.

"Try and cut through the shops." Ghost explains. Soap approaches as car parked perfectly to be used to climb the gate leading to an alley.

"Think I found a way through, L.T." Soap informs his teammate as he offers me a hand. I nod softly letting him help me on to the car before he climbs over the gate. He opens his hands ready to catch me. I climb over falling against him, Soap is careful in setting me down before turning towards the shop door.

"Shadows are everywhere. I'll hold 'em off until we RV in front of the church and secure a vehicle for exfil." Ghost informs us as we enter the shop. Feeling paranoid, I gently turn back and space out trip mines leading into the shop.

"Roger that." Soap responds watching me place the trip mines as protection.

"Give 'em hell, Johnny- We're almost there." Ghost encourages as Soap begins prying open the shop door. As the door gives way, a Shadow slams the door open and bashes Soap with the butt of his gun making Soap fall.

"Fuck-!" Soap curses as he looks up to see the Shadow holding me at gun point.

"What the... GET DOWN-! All Shadow stations, Got one near the church-!" The Shadow yells over comms.

"Kill him." Another voice responds as the Shadow adjust his aim to point at Soap. Before I can react a shot echoes in the area and the Shadow drops dead. Two more come running only to get dropped as well.

"Holy hell... Ghost- was that you?" Soap asks as he gets up readying his gun.

"Who else...? Now go..." Ghost commands. Soap pushes forward with me trailing behind him, I step beside him and motion to the alleyway leading to a shop.

"Gimme a bloody break... Ghost, how copy?" Soap asks as more Shadows begin to show up and open fire.

"Johnny, got company in the church, and they're not here for forgiveness...! Get to the steps, I'll be there..." Ghost response gun fire heard on his end as well.

"Copy, L.T.." Soap follows me through the alley and into the shops kitchen. I toss my last trip mine at the kitchen doorway before getting to cover. Soap opens the doors to the area where we are hiding only to get a Shadows' attention. As they come into the doorway, Soap stabs them, just as the Shadow drops faint explosions are heard.

"Smart thinking on the trip mines back there, seems like our buddies found them." Soap praises as we open fire on some Shadows coming in through the front of the shop. Just as I thank him a closer explosion shakes the walls, I move to cover the alleyway. Soap waits before deciding its clear and motions for me to follow him. We run for the church steps eager to meet up with Ghost and get the hell out of here. A tall man with a skull mask on comes into view, turning to kill two Shadows trying to follow him from inside the church.

"Ghost!" Soap calls out.

"Soap!" Ghost returns the call before climbing the church fencing. Ghost raditates alpha energy from his height and build to his stance. He is every meaning of intimidating, that much is clear. He briefly nods to me as he makes his way down the steps.

"We need a vehicle, on me-! Stay sharp, they know we're here and they know it's us. They'll send more." Ghost informs as he and Soap take lead in going back the way we had just come.

"Contact-! Dead ahead!" Soap calls as we all spot more Shadows running towards us.

"I see 'em. Watch the alley!" Ghost calls back. I take an opportunity and throw a molotov at the Shadows in front of us, with some form of luck it hit the two that had been racing at us. Soap and Ghost take care of others that come into veiw as we push forward.

"Stay close. Heads up for a vehicle we can take." Ghost comments as we get closer to the shops Soap and I had just been in.

"Soap, pickup truck ahead. Lights on." Ghost calls out. The truck stands out with the military vehicles being the only other vehicle in sight.

"See it!" Soap confirms as we all get close to it.

"I'll drive, Johnny- take shotgun!" Ghost informs as we all load up into the truck.

"Alright, Johnny- You made it..." Ghost remarks as we all finish getting in.

"We made it, L.T." Soap responds with a grin. The reunion is cut short as bullets break the back window just barely missing me. Soap quickly turns and opens fire on them.

"Hold Fast...!" Ghost shouts as he throws the truck in reverse, backing into the two Shadows.

"That's one way o' doin' it!" Soap says, giving a breathy laugh.

"Get back!" Soap suddenly calls. Ghost leans back as Soap shoots at a Shadow that had come up on the left.

"Thanks." Ghost says, getting situated once more.

"Drive- (Y/n) and I will cover us!" Soap responds as we both turn and fire at the Shadows that begin running into our line of sight. Ghost hits the gas, driving over the barb wire and vendor stand. It jerks the truck as he does, but the ride evens out as he proceeds to drive through the streets. As we get in the clear, I sigh and lean back in the seats, happy to finally be out of there. Soap smiles back at me and gently rubs my knee as he, too, begins to relax.

"Told you I'd make it." I comment with a laugh as Ghost looks at me through the rear view mirror.

"That you did, and you proved that you can be useful." Ghost replies, making Soap laugh slightly.

"Aye, lass, you thought quick on your feet, keeping pace with me even when walking hurt." Soap complements as he slightly shifts to look between Ghost and me for a moment. Silence fills the truck as Ghost drives us to wherever he deems safe. I sigh softly and lean my head against the window as exhaustion fills my body. I can still feel the flowing warmth of the stress heat that was building beneath the surface. Soap must've picked up on the scent again because he reached back and gently rubbed my leg. Ghost peeks back at me as he, too, picks up on the scent. I whisper a soft sorry as I try to repress the building heat as much as possible.

"No need to apologize, we don't get a say over our cycles especially, stress induced ones." Ghost comments as he focuses on the road once more as he speaks again, "I'll admit I'm surprised an Omega made it through that mess."

"I've gone through plenty of stress to kill a man. It's not my first time with this amount of stress but definitely my first time in this situation." I reply, relaxing once more as we begin to enter the country side. Soap chuckles, keeping his hand on my leg offering comfort. The low hum of the truck and the almost rhythmic rock of the truck lulls me to sleep. The truck turning off is what wakes me, it's early morning, we are pulled up to a building in the middle of nowhere. Ghost and Soap stepped out of the truck with caution, Soap making sure to gesture for me to stay put.

"Where are we?" Soap asked stepping forward with Ghost not to far from him.

"Alejandro's safehouse. Gave me the location just in case." Ghost replied sounding very nonchalant about giving Soap the information.

"Why didn't he tell me?" Soap questioned back with a hint of joking banter.

"It was need to know." Ghost replied, his tone mixed with the same playful banter but seriousness laced in.

"What if I needed to know--?" Soap started, his voice sounding slightly offended.

"---Shhh." Ghost said quickly as they got closer to the building. Their playful banter made me smile softly at just how close the two were, not that either of them would probably genuinely admit it. I watched as Ghost and Soap knelt down to examine something on the ground before Ghost glanced around at the building. Both he and Soap moved towards a window, Soap leads the way in at first, and Ghost climbed up behind him.

"Don't move." Ghost said loudly and sternly. A call of Spanish could be heard before Soap's voice calling out Rodolfo was heard. His name was returned by this individual before things were quiet, I could only assume they were talking, but the anxiety began to eat at me. What if they were in danger? What if they needed help? A million and one thoughts raced through my head, making my inner omega stir within, a sense of distress flooded my veins. The main door to the building opened revealing Soap as he came stepping towards me. I opened the door, trying to ease myself out of the truck only for my leg to give out. The pain from the bullet wound manifesting as a sharp stabbing pain.

"Easy omega." He whispered as he moved to give me support. The way he said it made me shiver as I looked up at him. Smiling, he pulled off his scent blocker, letting me get a clear smell of his natural alpha scent. The scent of burnt cinnamon and gun powder alone made my legs weak, the scent making my inner omega react blindly. My hand reached out and pulled him into a hug, rubbing against his scent gland. Soap didn't fight me or push me away, he simply let my inner omega bask in his heavy scent. The moment my mind registered my actions, I pulled away from him, nervously apologizing. Spending so long ignoring my natural instincts and suppressing my inner omega clearly had its consequences. He gave a laugh before nuzzling himself into my scent gland as well, only then I realized my patch had come off at some point during the whole mess.

"No need to apologize, I'm sure it's been a while since you've been around a proper alpha." He laughed, pulling himself away. Shyly nodding to him in agreement, I took his arm and limped to the building. Upon getting me in and seated in a chair, he jogged to close the door before returning to my side. Soap gathered the needed medical supplies and gently began undoing the bandaging around my thigh. He focused on cleansing the wound with alcohol, the sting making me groan. Soap gently patted the area dry before getting to work on stitching the wound close. He gently dabbed antibiotic ointment on the wound before wrapping the wound securely.

"It's only fair since you patched me up, hahaha." Soap explained softly chuckling before standing up, he moved over to their supplies here.

"She'll have to stay here where we know she is safe." Ghost explains to their friend who nods. It's clear from the lack of scent patching on him that he is a beta, he must be.

"I'm Rodolfo, an Omega for the Mexican Special Forces." Rodolfo greets offering his hand out. I happily take his hand and shake it.

"I remember! We met before, and I was helping out with patching up some Special Forces wounded." I express, he smiles as he remembers.

"Si, Alejandro, our Colonel, was wanting to thank you, but we got called for work." He explains as Soap hands me a MRE.

"Aye, the lass would make a great medic." Soap comments with a grin. I smile and begin to eat the MRE, I had heard that MREs tasted bad, but this tasted amazing. Maybe it was because it had been a while since I last ate, and I burned off more calories than what I had. As I ate, the three began talking about the events that occurred. Rodolfo led Soap and Ghost over to a tabel where I can only assume a map was.

"Graves is holding him here." Rodolfo explained motioning to a part of a map.

"His own personal black site prison." Soap commented.

"My team is locked in there, too." Rodolfo expressed looking between Ghost and Soap.

"How do we get 'em back?" Soap asked, looking up at Ghost and Rodolfo.

"By breaking in." Ghost now says, his tone carrying authority.

"And that's why I love the Ghost." Soap chuckles earning an affectionate punch to the shoulder.

"It's gonna take more than this." Ghost said, motioning to their guns. Rodolfo turns and pushes a gated door open, revealing rows of weapons and other things they may need.

"It's well-stocked." Rodolfo says with a shrug.

"Alright." Ghost nods.

"My man- We're gonna need new wheels. Preferably up-armored." Soap explains lightly, shifting his feet. Rodolfo tosses a set of keys to Ghost before flipping a switch. Rows of light turn on one by one before illuminating a vehicle that makes Soap whistle.

"Alejandro thought of everything." Ghost states, his tone sounding impressed.

"Yeah, he did. Let's go get him." Soap replies sounding just as impressed and yet determined. They begin to get their needed items set up and ready.

"She will stay here and wait for us to return if anyone other than us show up, then she has full right to open fire on them." Ghost replied before turning towards me, " Understood?"

"Yes, sir." I replied, standing and catching a gun he tossed my way. I could see the pride in Soap's posture when he noticed Ghost had accepted me into their team for the time being. I could feel my inner omega pulling to get to Soap, but I knew very well he had work to do and that if I was lucky, I'd see him when he returned. I decided to keep my hopes up, feeling that it was the better option than keeping negative headspace. I knew very well why my inner omega wanted to be close to him, but it had been years since I was that expressive and close with an alpha. The last alpha I was close with treated me far from being his potential mate and more as a toy. He abused me in more ways than one, leaving my inner omega to feel broken and deprived of proper love and attention. I swore that I would never do that to either of us again, and yet here I was, yearning for an alpha I barely knew.

A gentle hand cupped my face, making me look up at the person in shock. Seeing Soap's bright blue eyes looking at me with concern, I offered him a smile as I nuzzled into his hand. A soft whisper of him saying 'thata girl' made my heart flutter. My nose brushed against his gland at his wrist, causing his scent to flood my senses. A sudden small whine left my throat as he started to pull his hand away. Soap chuckled softly before returning his hand, letting his scent rub off on me.

"I promise to return omega, and once all of this is over, I'll be sure to bring you with me. After all, Ghost and I wouldn't have made it without you." Soap rumbled softly, stepping closer to me, letting me bask in his warmth that radiated off of him in waves. Nodding, I let his hand pull away even though everything in me called to him. I watched him and his team leave to go save their friends. Everything in me wanted to scream for him to come back because I knew in his line of work there was a chance he wouldn't come back. Sighing, I began tasking myself with familiarizing myself with the surroundings.
