Summary:

Insipired by blackrazorbill (Soul Dichromatism) and (Tricksters and Monsters) by RansomXenom

Three years have passed since the end of the second human monster war. After the thirty yearlong conflict started by Asgore, Monster Kind was forced back down into the Underground as part of the peace treaty signed by Toriel who has taken over ruling all Monsters.

Frisk and her adopted brother on the Surface along with a revived Chara, they and Toriel have created a makeshift family where some semblance of normality has taken place.

Yet forces deep within the void wish to wreak havoc upon this era of peace and bring Humans and Monsters back into another war. Even if it means bringing both the future and the past clashing into one another.

Notes:

BEFORE YOU READ! This work is inspired by two other works; Soul Dichromatism by BlackRazorBill and Tricksters and Monsters by RansomXenom. That being said I have my own creative twist and ideas with this work and so it may at times diverge from source material. You do NOT need to read either work to understand what is happening as this chapter will give you a good chunk of explanation so no one will be lost. More info will be given through other chapters. Though I highly recommend you read both of these works just because of how amazing they are! Also this has been beta read by AnotherShamelessSelfInsert

Chapter 1: Newest Threat (Prologue)

Chapter Text

Its been two years since the end of the second Human-Monster war, and although there is still tension between the two species, it has lessened since the start of the reign of the new monarch. With Toriel now ruling over Monster kind after Asgore’s death, finding out his war was in vain, the move of all Monsters into the Underground and setting all of the human souls free, a relative peace has been made. Toriel, who was killed by humans well over 30 years ago when she absorbed Chara’s soul, rather than Asriel during the buttercup plan. This led to her and Chara’s fused selves being slain by humans, their souls taken to the “OtherWorld”: A plane of existence where the lost souls were called to. Through the trials and tests that Frisk’s younger adopted brother Cam faced, he and his group of misfits were able to bring Toriel and Chara back to life. Cam found himself in the OtherWorld after he was killed during the attack on his village by Monsters, his Soul taken to be used in the Monster’s war against humanity. But mysteriously, his soul vanished from the Soul cannons which were created by Monsters to use against humanity as long range weapons. They were powered through the determination of hundreds of thousands of harvested human souls.

Once Cam had gathered himself when he awakened in OtherWorld, he began his journey to freedom. Through their adventures in the OtherWorld, trying to reclaim their once lost souls, the group of several humans and one goat Monster was able to take on the Angel of the Deltarune.

“The Angel of the Deltarune” turned out to be the collective magic of all Monster Kind, akin to a hive mind that sought out self preservation through the destruction of humanity. It was like a thread that attached itself from monster to monster, a magical force that grew from the Monster’s magical bodies to bring itself into being. A cursed creature born of hatred and cruelty, its nature was that of domination and death. In all instances, such evil could never be stopped, nor bargained with. Yet, through the efforts of Chara and Cam (along with several of the lost souls), they were able to vanquish the enemy and send its spirit to the outskirts of the world, where even the Void itself could not provide any comfort to this wretched being.

However, when the dust settled and the monsters, having now lost the war, humanity triumphed over this Second Human-Monster War. Finally, Humans and Monsters started slowly, but surely, making progress for a better tomorrow. However, mistrust from humans and monsters remain: For neither can fully find common ground, still viewing the other as enemies who may destroy the other.

Frisk, who is now 19 years of age, was merely 16 at the time of her capture by Asriel during his attack on her village, forcefully being turned into a goat boss Monster after her Determination was sealed and her physical matter depleted. Now, seemingly stuck forever as a monster, she had to stay a prisoner of Monsters until the defeat of the Angel of the Deltarune by her younger brother. Fortunately, after almost a year of being a prisoner, she was freed by Toriel, who came to the Capital to overthrow Asgore once Cam and his group escaped the OtherWorld. Unfortunately, Frisk was still unable to fully regain her human form, due to the large amount of her Determination being taken away from her by Dr. Alphys’s DT experiment. Thankfully, she is much more durable than other Monsters and doesn’t dust when injured, with blood still flowing through her. One could say she is a unique amalgamation of Human Determination and Monster Magic.

Now that there is a new found “peace” between the two species, due in part with the guidance and understanding of the horrors done by her fellow monsters; Queen Toriel, with the help of Frisk, have been making strides to find common ground for both to meet, but due to the intensity of the war, humanities trust towards Monsters is fragile at best. However, with statements made by a group of humans, the very same group that traveled with Cam during his time in the OtherWorld and after his revival, the Union Leaders had been slightly swayed: Especially after Toriel had given up all territory the Monsters had taken on the Surface, relocating them all back into the Underground. However, many Monsters still hold out hope that, one day, they will be able to see the Sun and the Moon once again. This time not from an invocation of war, but an invitation of peace. Unfortunately, the blockade made by the Union, the collective nations who formed a singular nation to fight against Monster Kind during the war, makes sure that no Monster ever leaves the Underground. With 30 long years of pain and suffering committed by Monster Kind the likelihood of this physical barrier coming down in the near future is next to none.

Currently, only Toriel can move freely between the Surface and the Underground. And when not in the Underground, her son Asriel takes charge of decision making (Although all ‘Big’ decisions that he makes has to be approved by the Queen herself, he is permitted to handle smaller things that don’t affect the whole of Monster-Kind.)
Asriel, for his part in the War, is confined to New Home: unable to travel the vast land of the Underground as a form of punishment. Toriel couldn’t bring herself to physically punish her own son, or anyone for that matter, but she does recognize the evils her own magic and dust has done to humanity.

As for the Royal guard, they have been disbanded, as part of the terms of the peace treaty, along with the Royal Council who also received the same punishment as Asriel, and were thrown out of power. Only on the rarest of occasions would they be called upon to help with certain matters.

But with Monsters surrendering and accepting the terms and conditions of the treaty, their return to the Underground finally bringing an end to the Second Human-Monster War, HOPE fills Monsters. That one day soon, they can return to the Surface once more.

********************************

The sky is painted with countless stars and constellations, the ground itself seemingly made of the same substance as water yet capable of walking on, and never wetting the feet of the two individuals. A faint glow of a rudimentary jar, holding in it an upside down soul, with hundreds of black wires and worn out machinery strewn about the place: all connecting to the soul jar.

“Should you not be happy with this new found peace?” Questioned the tall, black figure. “Is this not what you wanted?” The cracked face of the Monster spoke in a mix of static, his speech strained.

“No.” The other breathed out a cool and calm breath. “This is not peace, just a false hope that we can all live together.”

“If you go through with this plan of yours, time and space will be out of order.” Warned the black figure. “You lack the DETERMINATION to commence such a plan. I implore you,” the figure pleaded, “to at the very least listen to what I have to say. I know you don’t trust me…and after everything I have done, you have no reason to. But the consequences of this plan could wreak havoc upon the timeline!”

Unscrewing the jar and taking out the Monster soul, the figure held it up to its starlight eyes.

“My family, my friends, our own souls, were all lost because of actions of the past and the ignorance and FEAR of the present. I look now only towards the future.”

Raising the soul high, the figure smiled in excitement.

“You know, they say the will of a single man can change the course of history, right?”

Shoving the soul right into their chest cavity, the wielder started to gasp out for air that couldn’t come. Blinding flashes of neon light flooded the area, making it impossible to see anything. After the great light show, the figure turned to the other.

Smiling, sharp rows of teeth glistened in the dark. What was once human had been twisted into a sick amalgamation. A mockery of nature itself of the Human person. Standing with only one human arm, their right one now drenched in blood, while their left arm was turned into a furry white Goat Monster arm. Which was splattered in a thick black ooze and blotches of blood due to the painful and horrific nature of the transformation. A singular curved horn ripping out of the left side of their forehead. Even the legs were changed allowing the figure to stand at an impressive height with the same Monster appendages.

“How… I… you…”

Walking up slowly to the other, they placed a small hand on the taller one’s shoulder.

“Dr. Gaster, I assure you that I am no MAN.” The figure spat out, droplets colored black. “The power of the DeltaRune is within my grasp.” The figure whispered out with black ooze pouring out of their mouth. Its eyes now pointed towards twilight.

A New Dawn Approaches…..
*****************************************

“Deep in the watery caverns of the Underground, a hero emerges to bring light to this dark, dark world.” A set of pink eyes glisten in the cavern, excitedly monologuing to no one.

Pouring a bluish potion into a cauldron, the Goat Monster stirs the pot quickly. Taking a dash of red dust and sprinkling it in, the Monster places both of its paws above the liquid. “All right, and now the valiant hero finishes his great concoction!”

Infusing magic with the cauldron’s continents, the liquid shines brightly with a mixture of different colors, moving in a beautiful circle. Satisfied with their work, the Monster collects the liquid, placing it in several vials, and makes way to Hotland, their destination, The True Lab.

Knowing the entire underground like the back of their paw, they quickly make their way to the abandoned lab without anyone seeing them. Jittery and happy, the caprine jogs to the repaired DT extractor; Imputing the proper codes, while making a few minor adjustments, the Monster pours one of the vials into a tube connected to the DT extractor. As the tubes are filled with the unknown concoction, the Skull lights up, mouth opening as a spiral of blues and purples pooled in the center, electricity sparking as wires are pulled from both the machine and the walls.

“Okay, deep breaths…” The Goat Monster inhaled “Count 1…2…3… and out.” They release some of their anxiety “Everyone is counting on me. I feel it, all of our souls are beating as one.” Taking hold of a handle, he pulls with force, and the ground begins to rumble.
