Work Text:

A large crash interrupted the morning stillness, followed by a scream. Everyone ran toward the commotion, finding Jimin hanging by his ankle from the ceiling of their spell room.

“Uh, you okay up there?” Jungkook asked, perplexed at the situation.

“Oh, sure, just peachy,” he grumbled.

“How are we gonna get him down?” Hoseok wondered, looking toward their coven leader Namjoon for guidance.

“Where’s the ladder? Somebody grab the ladder!” Taehyung said, running around the room in a panic.

“He broke the ladder when he was stuck on the roof, remember?” Seokjin said, watching the younger man run around in a frenzy.

Their familiar, a black cat with a white patch on his forehead, meowed in response to the group. Turning to look, Namjoon saw the cat tapping his paw on the pepper shaker.

“Of course!” Namjoon exclaimed, grabbing it and throwing it toward the upside-down man. “Use it!”

Jimin looked at him like he was nuts before shaking it in the air, causing him to sneeze loudly, fall from the sky, and land in Namjoon’s big strong arms.

“Hey, good lookin’, come here often?” the older man winked, earning a giggle and a kiss on the cheek.

“My hero.”

The rest of the group groaned, heading back to their previous activities, with the exception of Taehyung who insisted on doing a complete check up to ensure Jimin was unhurt. This had become a routine thing as of late with Jimin working on a gravity spell.

Once everyone dispersed, only the cat was left to lick its paw in indifference.

Seokjin sat far back from the group clustered around the bubbling pot brewing Hoseok’s latest concoction. The men stepped aside as their familiar, whom they only referred to as Kitty, climbed the small wooden steps leading up to the pot and dropped in some mysterious plant clippings.

“Kitty, what did you just put in?” Jungkook asked, reaching for the clippings but stopping when the cat nipped his finger. “Ouch!”

The cat mewled angrily.

“Okay, fine, we’ll leave it. Yeesh,” Jungkook pouted.

Hoseok continued to whistle as he stirred the ingredients happily. If all things went well, this was going to be the formula to end all formulas. The one he had been working on for ages.

The group began to chant the magical words Hoseok made them learn, watching as the flames grew around the pot. Soon, a terrible shriek filled the air. Seokjin watched as their familiar writhed on the ground, yowling in pain as his body lifted up high in the air. The cat continued writhing as he flew above the now quiet group before plopping down in the boiling mixture with a howl.

“KITTY!” Jimin yelled as the cat was submerged in the boiling hot liquid.

They all tried pulling the cat from the liquid, but it was simply too hot. In a flash, Seokjin pushed them all out of the way, reaching into the hot liquid and ignoring the pain until he pulled the drenched, unconscious, and twitching cat from the waters. As he laid the wounded cat down, Seokjin collapsed from the pain.

Yoongi woke up with one hell of a headache, groaning in discomfort. Reaching up, he rubbed his eyes before stopping in realization. Looking down at his now human hands with a gasp, he looked back up at the staring group of men above him. All of whom jumped back in shock as his eyes met theirs.

“W-Who are you and what have you done with our Kitty?” Jungkook asked, tears in his eyes.

“I swear if you hurt him, I’ll have your liver!” Hoseok threatened, wielding the large ladle as a weapon.

Holding the right upper quadrant of his abdomen in defense, Yoongi frowned, “I-I didn’t do anything with Kitty. I’m Kitty. Just back to this form I suppose.”

“What do you mean back? And how do we know you’re really Kitty?” Taehyung grumbled.

“I wasn’t always a cat!”

“He does have the white patch like Kitty,” a disheveled Seokjin groaned from his place on the couch.

“He has to have some sort of magic. There’s got to be a reason why he went into that boiling pot and came out unhurt. I mean even Seokjin’s wounds disappeared before our eyes. Something’s up with him,” Namjoon rationalized.

“Of course, he has magic. He’s a familiar for crying out loud,” Jimin rebutted.

“Um, I’m actually a daemon. Uh, and my name’s Yoongi,” Yoongi interrupted, wincing when they all turned to look at him with wide eyes.

🔮🐈‍⬛🔮

“Seriously, guys? This is inane,” Yoongi complained from the makeshift shackles that tied him to the corner of the home’s main room. “You know I’m a daemon not a prisoner of war. Let me out. Guys?”

“Shh,” Hoseok mumbled, spraying him with the spray bottle he’d use when Yoongi was still in cat form.

Yoongi pouted in frustration. He hated that stupid spray bottle.

“What are we gonna do? We can just leave him like that,” Taehyung said, motioning toward the upset daemon who was trying to blow the white streaked curl of hair from his eyes unsuccessfully.

“What do you suggest, Tae? We just let him run amok and destroy us all?” Jimin argued.

“Must you be so dramatic?” Seokjin rebutted.

“Oh, now I’m dramatic, but last night I was…”

“Shh,” Hoseok interrupted, spraying Jimin with the spray bottle as well. “Now is not the time.”

“He’s right,” Yoongi said from directly beside him, earning screams from the group.

“How did you get out?!” Namjoon argued, throwing a nearby dishtowel at his face.

“I’m a daemon,” he shrugged. “Um, I’m hungry. Can I eat?”

The rest all looked at each other in confusion before Seokjin rolled his eyes, pulling Yoongi with him, “Come on, I’ll get you something.”

Yoongi stared at the silverware in horror. He was hungry but these things were confusing. The last time he was human was too long ago to remember. This…this stuff was confusing. One was a stabby stab. He knew that. The other looked like an octopus on a stick missing a few tentacles. And the last looked like a tiny shovel.

He looked down at the plate of food. Some worm looking things covered in brown that he saw the others eat before. He couldn’t remember which of these tools they used to eat these, just that there was a lot of slurping involved. Too tired to figure out the puzzle that was human food and too hungry to care, he did what he always did when eating.

“I brought you some…water,” Seokjin said, looking at the man seated at the table, face shoved deep into the bowl of jajangmyeon, eating like he was starved. “I’ll just set it here,” he said, placing the mug next to him.

Looking up with a lick of his lips, Yoongi leaned down and began licking up the water without touching the mug it came in. Soon, the others walked into the room, all stopping behind a bewildered Seokjin and all staring in confusion.

Yoongi soon looked up, jajangmyeon sauce covering his face, before smiling at the group and diving back into the noodles.

With a huff, Hoseok pushed past them all, sitting next to Yoongi, cleaning his face, and showing him how to use a fork. He was unsure why the former cat insisted on calling it an “octostabby”, but he went with it.

There were many things, it turns out, that a daemon whose been stuck in cat form for too long, needed to remember. He talked about a curse placed upon him by an angry witch who damned him to serve his fellow witches while slowly forgetting what it meant to be human.

Although, he couldn’t remember many things, he did remember that it was his pride that had angered the witch. He had been pompous and a complete jackass, but now he had been humbled by years spent as a cat familiar.

He could barely remember what it meant to be in this form, still having trouble with human language. He would often make up various names for things, something that the others honestly found adorable.

They had each started teaching him various things about day-to-day life. Hoseok taught him about manners, showing him how to properly drink a good cup of tea and how to show strangers and elders respect. Namjoon taught him about plants and caring for them, as well as various lessons in history since his transformation into a cat.

Seokjin taught him about food, cooking, and how different things were served. Jungkook began giving him boxing lessons for strength and yoga lessons for flexibility, saying they were both good ways to deal with the stress of life.

Taehyung taught him curse words and how to sneak into the kitchen for snacks late at night while Jimin showed him the various responsibilities good witches such as them took on when performing magic.

Yoongi was still apprehensive about being on the witch side of things given his past experience with the evil witch that had damned him. However, he did his best to learn from the group who had proven to be hard workers.

The potion they had been working on when he transformed had been one to help people heal quicker and more thoroughly from injury. He was glad that was the one he had fallen into on that fateful day. After reattempting to make said potion, the group was happy to see that indeed it was successful.

They would be able to use the potion to help countless others in their town. As a group of healers, they knew the possibilities would be wonderful.

🔮🐈‍⬛🔮

Little by little, the group showed him what life as human was. It had been so long since he had to know how to function as anything other than a familiar. As a familiar, his memory was short, his thoughts restrained, and his life simple. He had been a cat for so long, he had forgotten what it was like to be like everyone else. He had been unable to use his magic during that time as well.

Now that he was free, he was able to help them all with his magic. Slowly, his memories also started to become clearer. He could only remember bits and pieces, but it was something. It made him feel like there was hope after all.

He still had habits he’d developed in his years as a cat. He still loved curling on their laps and napping, letting their fingers through his hair lull him to sleep. He found himself seeking their comfort quite often, rubbing against their arms until he was pulled into a hug or better yet a warm cuddle.

For their part, the men were happy to entertain the daemon’s neediest moments. After all, who wouldn’t want to snuggle Yoongi? Soon, their hugs and cuddles became more until Yoongi found himself being asked if he’d like to be a part of their polyamorous relationship.

When asked, however, Yoongi looked at the group in confusion. “But I thought I already was?”

This further endeared him to them all and earned him countless kisses and hugs that night. He was happy to have found his spot in life and happy for the chance to love them all.
