The Right Kind of Comfort

Summary:

Izuku just suffered through a very long and stressful day. His omega is crying in his head and he just wants some comfort. Unfortunately, the comfort he needs is no longer within his reach.
He searches out the next best thing and hopes, for his omega's sake, that he isn't rejected.

Work Text:

Izuku might cry. And yeah, sure. Izuku is the biggest crybaby in the Eastern Hemisphere, but seriously, he's losing his mind here.
First he had to deal with a weird, slimy villain that secreted a mucus-like substance from his feet. Not exactly a powerful quirk, but the guy knew martial arts and that made him even more slippery (pun intended). Capturing that guy was one big, messy, frustrating, nausea inducing, headache.

Next, he was almost completely finished with his reports for the day, when a first-year intern tripped over their own tail. Which, okay, Izuku wasn't the most graceful intern either, so he understands. BUT, she was holding a carrier full of hot coffees, all of which ended up on Izuku and his laptop. Consequently, Izuku had to change clothes, was forced to see the healer for some light burns that he didn't even bat an eye at, AND had to rewrite his reports on a company laptop that he would have to borrow until support could fix or recover and replace his personal laptop.

Then, when he thought he was home free after leaving the agency past curfew and visiting the convenience store close to the dorms, he was accosted by a very drunk civilian. The man was absolutely sloshed and mistook Izuku for the man his girlfriend cheated on him with. Unable to do much else, Izuku restrained the man with Black Whip, but not before the belligerent guy splashed his beer in Izuku's face. He held it together and stayed calm while he waited for an officer to come and take the man away to toss in the drunk tank for the night.

Finally. Finally, Izuku made it back to Heights Alliance. His classmates had already gone to bed, so he had the common spaces to himself. The ongri he picked up from the store was ruined so he chunked it in the trash, showered off the pungent beer smell that had been attacking his sensitive nose for hours, and crawled into his nest. He laid in the dark for awhile, snug and comfortable now that his exhausted body could finally rest and curl into the familiar smells of friends and family, pack. Unfortunately, his brain didn't get the memo. He's not really sure how long he actually laid there, and he might've dozed some, but every little sound had his omega on edge. Twitching and jerking awake at the smallest noises.

He knew what he really needed. Izuku was very in tune with his omega. After the stressful, frustrating day he just had, he knew on an instinctual level that he needed comfort. Usually, that wouldn't be an issue. He could take his pick of cuddle buddies.
He could go next door and snuggle with Yuga. The flamboyant blonde omega would attach to him like a koala and he could burry his nose in his hair and inhale his earl grey tea and honey scent.
Or he could head further down the hall and sandwich himself between Fumikage and Dark Shadow. The alpha's room was always dark and cool and Izuku loved to burrow under the thick blankets that held the alpha's sandalwood scent. Dark Shadow would gently pet and play with Izuku's hair while he ran his fingers through the soft downy feathers at the nape of Fumi's neck.
If Izuku wanted something more than cuddles and soft touches, he could visit his other dorm neighbor. Shinsou might even still be awake. It's was no secret the alpha had a hard time sleeping. More than a few times Izuku had slipped into his room after hours to, ahem, work off some excess energy. The two would work each other up and tease and edge each other for so long, that when they finally tipped over the edge, they would crash hard into the lavender and espresso scented sheets. Their sleep would be extra restful and blissfully dreamless.

Izuku certainly had options, and those were just the ones on his floor. Unfortunately, as wonderful as all of those options sounded, it just wasn't the type of comfort Izuku's omega really needed. Who he needed, and Izuku couldn't ask for who he really needed anymore and even her scent had faded from his nest. There was an alternative, something he had thought about on more than one occasion. A person Izuku's omega recognized, but he had always been too afraid to ask. To initiate.
But, Izuku was exhausted. Physically and mentally and emotionally, and his omega was loud. Wailing in his head. A low whine escaped his lips and Izuku threw off his blankets and bolted from his room before he could talk himself out of his decision.

Shouta was just about to take some headache medicine and crawl into bed with Hizashi, when he heard a light knock at the door to their shared apartment. Irritation was his reflexive response, but as he neared the entryway, he could smell distress pheromones even through the thick door and scent neutralizers. Shouta quickened his pace and pulled the door open to reveal what his nose had already picked up on.
Teary, emerald eyes met his for a fraction of a second, before he dropped his head enough to hide them behind green curls.

"I'm s-so sorry to bother you so l-late, Sensei," Izuku took a deep breath and blew it out before continuing, obviously struggling to control his emotions. "I ha-had a- I n-need- I ca-can't-"

Shouta's alpha was begging him to comfort the omega pup, but he had to remind himself that, as much as he saw Izuku as his own, he wasn't actually his sire. He couldn't just scent him like his alpha wanted him to.
Instead, he opened the door wider, "Come inside, Problem Child."

"No," Izuku practically shouted and Shouta winced inwardly. "I just," he clenched and unclenched his fists a few times, "I don't want to b-bother you. I just want to- to ask-." Izuku took another deep breath and Shouta waited patiently. "Can I please ha-have something with-." he swallowed hard and Aizawa could see tears dripping from his chin. "I just n-need a sh-shirt or something. I c-can't-" A loud sob broke past his lips and Shouta had enough.
He gently pulled Izuku to his chest and held him with his nose pressed against his scent gland.

"I'm," sob, "s-sorry," he clenched the front of Shota's shirt in his fists and tried to pull away. "I can't- she's gone." he wailed and Shota's heart broke. "She's gone and even her scent is gone. And I need her and I know I'm not your pup but my omega doesn't make the distinction. I just- I need-"

"Shh, it's okay."
Shota held him tighter, shuffling them further into the apartment so he could close the door.
"Listen-"

"Hey," Hizashi rushed into the room and brought the younger omega into a hug, resting his head against his chest and petting his hair, "Sh-sh-sh-sh-shhhh. It's okay, Izuku. It's okay."
He gently scuffed his neck with one hand, releasing calming pheromones and rubbing his back with the other. Izuku sagged against him.

"Come on, pup," Hizashi gently led Izuku over to the couch and sat him down, holding him and carding his fingers through his hair while his shoulders shook through his cries.

Shouta grabbed the large throw blanket that had been draped over the armchair and wrapped it around the two omegas. He turned to leave to get some water for Izuku, when crooked fingers shot out and wrapped around his wrist. He immediately sat on Izuku's other side and wrapped his arms around him. Izuku's sobs had died down to quiet sniffles.

"I might not have sired you," Aizawa spoke rubbing a large hand across Izuku's back, but you are my pup."

"That's right," Hizashi added. "I could never replace your dam, but if you ever need anything we will always be here for you."

Izuku's cries started up again, but his distressed pheromones shifted from summer thunderstorm to the fresh scents of spring blossoms with a hint of citrus. They stayed silent and continued to pump out their individual calming scents while he worked his way through his emotions.

Hizashi didn't speak up again until his breathing started to even out, "You want to talk about it, or do you want to build a nest with me here on the couch while Shouta makes us some hot cocoa?"

Izuku sniffled and glanced up at Hizashi with red-rimmed eyes and flushed cheeks, "Can we do both?"

"Sure," Hizashi chuckled, ruffling Izuku's hair, "Nest, then hot cocoa, then you can tell us all about it, okay pup?"

Izuku managed a weak but genuine smile and a nod, "I would love that."

Izuku woke the next day to the smell of coffee, snuggled against his surrogate alpha sire. He spent the morning with Hizashi fawning over him and Shouta hiding fond smiles behind his coffee mug. They each scented him before he left their apartment, feeling lighter than he had in months.

Later that day, while watching movies with a few members of his pack, Tenya stopped on his way to the kitchen and sank a hand into his curls, "How are you feeling today, Izuku."

For the first time in a long time he didn't have to fake his smile, and he answered honestly, "I'm feeling really good."

"Yeah?": Tenya double checked. "Need anything? Are you comfortable?"

Izuku sighed happily, "I'm perfectly comfortable."
