Work Text:
Superfly was dead. That was obvious.
Leo coughed, standing up with his brothers. His limbs felt heavy. His lungs burned. It was hard to breathe.
It shouldn't be this hard to breathe.
Leo ignored the surrounding crowd and pushed his way to his dad. His dad. His vision was blurry. Why was his vision blurry? He hadn't been paying much attention to anything during the fight.
He could hear his brothers from behind him. They sounded panicked. Leo ignored them and embraced Splinter.
Splinter wrapped his own arms around Leo, and Leo wanted it to last forever, but was surprised when Dad suddenly pulled away. He watched the blurry figure of his dad look down at his hands. Why was his dad's hands red?
Leo's shell hurt. It was getting harder to breathe.
"Dad?" Leo croaked out. His ears started ringing.
"Leonardo, oh no, no, my son. We must get you help." Splinter replied, sounding just as panicked as his brothers did. Leo's ears rang more.
Leo winced as he felt himself collapse to his knees. His legs were numb.
Splinter called out something about an ambulance.
"Dad, what happened to me?" Leo slurred his words. Somebody was holding Leo up by his shoulders from behind. Splinter took his son into an embrace again, but avoided his shell. What was wrong with Leo's shell? He couldn't remember.
"You're going to be okay, just stay awake, okay? You have to stay awake."
Leo yawned. Something warm started to drip down his legs from his shell. " 'm so tired." He groaned. the ringing in his ears grew louder. It kept getting harder to breathe.
"No, no, Leonardo, don't close your eyes."
Splinter's words kept getting fuzzier. He couldn't distinguish anything his brothers were saying, now. Just the blurred colors of their dirtied masks. They were shouting, grabbing Leo's hands and shoulders as Leo closed his eyes and tucked his face into his fathers shoulder, wrapping his numb arms around his dad again. He smelled like Cool Ranch Doritos, like he always did. "I'm so tired."
"Goodnight, Dad. I love you."
