Chapter Text
RING RING RING
Y/N shot up with a graceful yelp, spinning into a somersault as she fell out of bed in surprise.
Looking over to her alarm clock, she slammed a hand onto it, silencing it from its loud noises.
“Ugh…” she groaned, wiping her face and feeling a suspicious lack of eye crust or overall sleeping residue. This was normal, of course. She’s not like other girls after all.
She pirouetted onto her feet and gracefully strode to her wardrobe, pulling out a crewneck and jogging pants. Unlike other girls, Y/N didn’t worry about her appearance, pulling her hair into a messy bun before hearing a shout from downstairs.
“Y/N! GET YOUR ASS DOWN HERE!”
Y/N yawned, grabbing her book from her bedside table and running down the stairs to meet her mother’s displeased expression.
“Y/N,” Her mother began, “Your father’s gambling addiction has gone too far. We’ve lost a lot of money! If we can’t gain that back, we’ll have to sell you to Lovejoy or One Direction!!”
Y/N gasped at the implications. How could her mother even suggest such a thing?
“But,” Her mother continued, “If you keep your grades up, we won’t sell you. So go to school! You’re almost late!”
Y/N gasped, grabbing a piece of toast and rushing out the door. She ran to school, backpack in hand, and almost fainted by the time she reached her locker, her 3’2 20 pound body not accustomed to such hard exercise. Grabbing onto the locker door, she swung it open, shoving in her backpack and grabbing the books she needed for the first period.
As she sat down in her chair, the bell rang, and Ms. Evertree glared at her. “Y/N, late again, are we?”
Y/N gaped back in disbelief. “What are you talking about? I got here on time!”
“Don’t talk back, Y/N. Detention for the next week. And if you speak again, that’ll be detention for a month.”
Y/N slumped in her seat, devastated. How was she to keep her grades up when her math teacher hated her so much?
She stayed slumped until the end of class, thankful the teacher hadn’t called on her, before rushing out of the room as the bell rang, relieved. Instead of reaching her next class, she had a spare and slumped against the lockers in a forgotten corner of the school, pulling out her notebook and scanning the notes she’d received from yesterday.
As she read dejectedly, she was so immersed she didn’t hear the person walking up to her until they cleared their throat, and she snapped her neck backwards and looked up.
Above her stood a guy the same age as her, but significantly taller, staring down at her. His shaggy black hair hung down, and his leather jacket glinted slightly in the lighting of the school hallway.
“Hey,” He began, voice unfamiliar and low, “What are you doing here alone?”
“I’m studying,” Y/N said suspiciously, shooting to her feet. On her feet, the height difference was apparent, as he looked down at her, hair falling in slight curls over his shoulders. The stranger rolled his eyes, eying her back with an equal amount of disbelief. “Nobody studies in random hallways. They all do it in the cafeteria.”
“Yeah well, I’m not like other girls,” Y/N replies, rolling her eyes.
The stranger rolls his own eyes, shrugging and turning to leave. Before he does, Y/N impulsively cries after him “Wait! What’s your name?”
He turns, a slightly amused smile playing on his lips.
“I’m Maki Bot. Call me Maki.”
He disappears into the dark of the hallway.
