Work Text:
Today was a Thursday. I was walking back home from school and listening to vocaloid. I wasn’t in the fandom, but I liked the songs. I liked the Japanese songs and English songs and songs in other languages. I didn’t care what language it was in if it sounded good.
Sometimes, I tried to see if I could learn some Japanese from the songs, but I hadn’t really learned anything. It wasn’t like I was going to ever speak it anyways. My parents already wanted me to learn French, since they were French. I currently spoke almost none.
When I got home, my dad greeted me. “Do you know when you’re having a test in math?”
“I had it today.”
“And you didn’t tell me!”
“Well, I didn’t know!”
“How!?”
“I’m sorry.”
“You lied to me!”
“I genuinely didn’t know!”
“You’re in big trouble!”
“Because I forgot about a math test?!”
“Yes! You’re grounded!”
“Because of a fricking math test!? That I probably didn’t fail?!” I didn’t know why I was still arguing. When my dad had made up his mind, no one could change it. “Whatever!” I stomped upstairs.
I closed the door and slammed my face into my pillow. I hated my dad so much! All he ever did was yell at me and scold me. And, yet I was always in the wrong, according. I mean, maybe both of us were wrong, sometimes, but he always blamed me and never himself. At least he was going to pay my college tuition.
I can’t believe I got grounded, had my electronics taken away, and had to cancel my sleepover plans with Marina and some of my other friends because I forgot about a math test! I bet I was the first kid to get grounded for not telling my parents about a math test.

The next day, I angrily stomped to school. I didn’t have my phone, so I couldn’t listen to vocaloid on the walk there. Instead, my mind was filled with anger.
When I got to school, the doors hadn’t opened yet. I saw Marina reading a book on a bench in the shade and I walked over to her.
“Hi. I am so excited for our sleepover today!”
“It can’t happen. Sorry.”
“Why?”
“I got grounded.”
“What for?’
“Not telling my dad about our math test. But, we can do it next Friday.”
“Okay. I’ll tell the group chat about it.” She pulled out her phone.
“Thanks.”
I pulled out a book, feeling a little better than before. Even though my dad sucked and my life wasn’t the best, at least I had some good friends.
