Chapter Text
It was their third day at the Conjuring house.
Sam would like to say he's starting to feel somewhat comfortable in the house. But truth is, you can't get used to a haunted house like this one.
This house was the worst of the worst!
They already got some crazy footage today. Just like the last two days.
Sam couldn't wait to show it all to the world. This was going to be life-changing! He just knew it!
He was even more excited of what they would capture in the next four days though. It's still wild to him that they were doing this. A whole week at the Conjuring - who's dumb enough to do that?
He looks to his side where Colby was munching on a protein bar while setting up their equipment. The only reason he was here right now was that man. He wouldn't have dreamed to do any of this without Colby by his side.
Truth was, Sam didn't even feel scared to be here. Sure, he had freaked out a lot in the last days and knew he would continue doing so for the next. But he felt safe as long as Colby was by his side. Like nothing could get to him.
He had no idea what the evening would bring.
Sam looked out the window and saw the setting sun. He used to hate sunsets. Still isn't particularly fond of them. And yet, he felt calm in a sense.
In the background, he could hear Josh and Seth talking. In a way it felt reminiscent to film with the both of them. They've been to quite a few places together and it felt somewhat comforting to have them here.
Sam felt a soft nudge from Colby. He turned to look at him and Colby's expression was a mixture of questioning and concerning. Sam must have zoned out for a moment. He sent a reassuring smile Colby's way and could see Colby relaxing a bit.
"Ready whenever you are, Sammy."
Sam nodded and stepped away from the window. He took the camera and put it on the mantelpiece of the fireplace. They stood in the living room of the house, the one leading to the library room. Both doors to that room stood open, since they knew how much activity happened in there. Josh had set up a second camera in that room. If they caught books flying or the doors slamming shut like other people did before them, that would be great.
Sam pressed the Record button on the camera and stepped away. He positioned himself across from Colby. Josh and Seth stood between them, together forming a half-circle.
Colby had put two REM-Pods on the floor. One by the doors to the library and the other by the wooden arch opening leading out into the hallway.
After testing out if it's working, Colby handed the EMF reader to Sam. It never changed from green, indicating that nothing was near them right now.
"If anything is here with us, could you come up to one of these devices on the floor and touch it? Or come over to my friend Sam and make the device in his hand go off. Just step near it and it will go off."
They waited a few seconds.
The REM-Pods didn't blink at all. The EMF in Sam's hand stayed on green.
Colby started addressing specific spirits. He started with the soldiers and went on to Bathsheba Sherman, asking them to give a sign that they were here with them.
Nothing happened.
Sam was worried they would have to stop for today. That none of the spirits wanted to communicate anymore.
They asked a few more times, but didn't get any signs.
So they wanted to pack up and move to another room.
Just as Colby was about to turn off the camera, the EMF in Sam's hand went all the way to red.
Sam noticed it immediately.
"Ohhh, wait wait wait, it just went to red!", Sam called out in an excited voice, showing the device to the camera. It kept blinking red.
"Is someone standing in front of me right now?"
They waited a few seconds for an answer.
When nothing happened, Colby asked: "Could you step away from Sam for a second?"
But the device stayed on red, not even blinking. Colby tried again: "If you are here, step away from the device in Sam's hand!"
They waited another moment. The EMF was still on red.
"Nothing."
But right as Josh said that, Sam's eyes rolled into the back of his head and the last thing he knew was that he's falling.
