Work Text:
Ray storms out of Sand’s apartment and heads downstairs, only to be stopped by a heart-wrenching scream and the sound of broken glass. Sand. He falls to his knees and grabs his head. He could never see Sand in pain, specially knowing he’s the one who hurt him. But what else was he supposed to think when he saw Sand talking with his father with an envelope full of money between them? He lets out a scream of his own and starts sobbing without control.
Inside the apartment, Sand hears Ray’s scream and runs to the door, but hesitates with the hand on the doorknob. Any doubt leaves his mind when he hears him sobbing just outside his door. He could never see Ray hurting, so of course he rushes to comfort him. When he reaches him, he kneels beside him and holds him tight in his arms, trying to calm him down.
Once he manages to control his sobs, Ray speaks quietly.
“I thought you cared, Sand. I really thought you cared about me. But I’m alone. Everybody leaves me and I’m completely alone. No one can put up with me. I’m a burden to everyone. No one cares enough to stay. I deserve to be alone. I’m not worth it”
“Ray, no. Of course I care. I care so much. I love you. I never took the money. I swear. I should have told you when he offered, but I never wanted your father’s money. I could never do that to you. To us. Everything I’ve done for you has been because I love you. I’m so sorry I made you doubt my feelings for you. I’ve loved you for a while now”
“Really?” And Sand’s heart breaks at the hope he sees in Ray’s eyes.
“Of course. Ever since we met I haven’t been able to stop thinking about you. I told you I was never this yielding with anyone before. But with you I don’t mind, I like helping you. I like that you can count on me. You are worth that and so much more. You deserve to be happy. I want to make you happy”
Ray lets out a loud sob and hugs him tighter.
“I love you, Sand. I’m so sorry for what I said. I didn’t mean it”
“It’s okay. You were right. I’ll get rid of the alcohol”
“No! You don’t have to. That’s your business”
“I want to, Ray. If it helps you, there’s nothing I won’t do”
“Sand”
“I’m sorry I never realized this”
“But it’s your business”
“I’ll find something else. It’ll be fine”
They stay like that, holding each other, until their knees hurt from sitting on the floor for so long.
“Come on. I’ll make something for dinner”
They get back inside the apartment and Ray stops suddenly when he sees the broken glass on the wet floor.
“Sand...”
“I’ll clean it up”
“I’ll do it. You prepare dinner”
“You don’t have t-”
“It’s fine. I’ll help you with dinner when I’m done cleaning this mess”, Ray tells him as he squeezes his shoulder.
“Okay”, sighs Sand.
They stare at each other for a moment and Sand can’t help but lean closer and wrap his arms around Ray’s body.
Ray immediately holds him back and buries his face in his chest, sighing in delight.
“Hmm... This is my favourite place”
“My apartment?” asks Sand in confusion.
“No”, laughs Ray as he leans back. “This” he says with a finger on Sands heart “ is my favourite place in the world”
Tears gather in Sand’s eyes and Ray raises his hands to wipe them with his thumbs, leaning their foreheads together. They both have so much to say but don’t know how to express it, so Sand just holds the nape of Ray’s neck and leans in slowly until their lips touch.
Ray gasps in surprise and opens his lips, offering access to Sand’s hungry tongue. They make their way to Sand’s room and fall together on the bed, not leaving a second without their hands touching all over each other.
Once their clothes are off, Ray holds Sand closer, needing to feel him as close as possible.
“Sand, please. I need you. Please”
“I’m here. I got you”
Sand starts to prepare Ray with his fingers and Ray pushes at him until he’s hovering over him, leaving bites and marks all over his neck, moaning in pleasure when Sand hits that sweet spot.
“Ungh... Please, Sand. Please, please, please”
“Yeah, okay... Lay back” he says as he reaches for the condom on the nightstand. Ray takes it from his hand and helps him put it on.
Sand aligns himself with Ray’s entrance and starts pushing in, making Ray groan at the intrusion. Sand tries to stop and let Ray adjust, but he grabs his ass and pushes him further in, making both of them moan in pleasure.
“Ah, Ray. Fuck. You’re so tight”
“You feel so good...”
Once he’s all the way in, Sand caresses Ray’s cheek and looks him in the eye. He’s tempted to look away, not being able to handle how much love he sees in Ray’s eyes, but Ray grabs his head and smiles.
“I love you so much, Sand. I’ve never felt this way about anyone before”
Sand buries his face in Ray’s neck to hide his tears, although his trembles give him away. Ray wraps his arms around him and holds him tight.
“I love you too, Ray. So much”
Ray wraps his legs around Sand and they start moving in sync. They don’t last much longer and they climax together, both holding on to each other as a lifeline.
Afterwards, when they are laying together wrapped in the sheets they feel like everything will be alright. Ray now knows he has Sand’s honest and never-ending support in his fight against addiction, and Sand knows his feelings are not one-sided. They finally see a future for them, full of happiness and love.
Sand runs his fingers over Ray’s naked chest and rests his hand over his heart.
“This is my favourite place”
Ray holds him closer and kisses his head.
“We’ll be okay. We’ve got each other”
“Hm. I promise next time he tries to approach me, I’ll send him away”
“I’ll be there to support you. Always”
Sand hugs him closer and nuzzles his neck, only to lift his head in shock when Ray’s stomach groans with hunger.
“Come on, I’ll make some dinner”
“Hm... I’ll clean the mess in the living room and then I’ll help you”
“You don’t have to. Just wait here”
“Sand. Let me help you. It’s my fault in the first place”
“Hey, it isn’t your fault. I should have realized sooner”
Ray leans in for another kiss but Sand turns his head so his lips land on his neck instead.
“If you start again we will never eat”
“Can I eat you instead?”
Sand laughs and kisses his cheek before pushing him away and standing up.
“Later. Let me feed you first”
“Okay, okay” says Ray with a kiss to Sand’s lips as he heads to the living room.
Sand stares lovingly at him before sighing and making his way to the kitchen to start dinner.
They will be fine. They are finally on the same page about their feelings. And if they survived this fight, they can survive anything. He’ll make sure of it.
