Partners in Crime

Summary:

Kara loves Halloween. Kara loves candy. Kara loves snacking on candy as kids come around in their cute little costumes. How well does Lena fit into this equation? As amazingly as all the peanut butter that goes into Reese’s cups that Kara devours.

Notes:

First time I've written for the SuperCorp fandom, but I might have a few other small plot bunnies coming to fruition for SuperCorp instead of the stories I need to complete for another fandom. Oops. I suppose that's a win for all of you? Enjoy!

Work Text:

Kara’s always loved the fall. The cooling temperatures, the leaves changing into hues of red, orange, and yellow, cozy sweaters, and of course, all the fall seasonal flavors. At night, she finds nothing better than curling up under a throw blanket and cuddling her girlfriend.

Her girlfriend, Lena.

She still can’t believe it. Lena is her girlfriend after all these years of secretly pining for her. According to Alex, and the rest of the masses, her secret pining wasn’t so secret and all she was missing was a big blinking sign advertising her feelings for Lena. The only person who didn’t know was ironically Lena. Then again, Lena was fooled by a pair of glasses for years. Not to mention her loveless upbringing and self-deprecating jokes that blinded her to Kara’s obvious romantic affections for her.

“Friendship?” Alex nearly shouted, clenching her fists at the news. “How is this friendship?” Wildly, she gestured at them. Lena’s legs were draped and slightly bent in Kara’s lap, the rest of her pressed into Kara’s side with a protective Kryptonian arm around her waist. “You can’t tell me you have all these fancy degrees, and you couldn’t see that my little sister was making lovesick eyes at you ever since you met!”

“This isn’t friendship anymore. We’re dating now,” was Lena’s curt response, pressing a kiss to Kara’s shoulder.

“Excuse me?” Alex shrieked, throwing her hands up in frustration and on the verge of tearing her hair out. “This is what we’ve all put up with for years because you were both too dumb to realize you liked each other. This is not normal friendship behavior. And don’t think I never noticed you undoing a few too many buttons! My baby sister was too stupid to make the connection, but we don’t all need an eyeful of your boobs!” Alex paused, taking a deep breath. Then delivered the final blow, “You’ve unofficially been dating for years!”

Kara remained silent at the lecture/scolding, willing the red flooding her cheeks to wash away. Lena wasn’t one to back down so easily though.

“You must’ve liked what you saw if you kept watching my seduction tactics, Agent Danvers.” Just to spite her, Lena blew a kiss towards Alex and winked.

Alex stormed out of Kara’s apartment after that, claiming that Lena had to pay for her therapy and the emotional distress their blindness and idiocrasy forced all of them to endure for years. The embarrassment of getting a lecture from her sister was soon forgotten once Lena readjusted herself to straddle Kara’s lap and initiated behavior that would surely scar Alex and anyone else had Kara not zipped to the door and locked it.

It may have taken a few too many years to start their official romantic relationship, but the important thing is that their feelings are finally known to one another. Because of this momentous event, they get to experience Halloween and trick-or-treat together as a couple. They were already going to celebrate together, but celebrating as a couple makes Kara giggle since they could do a couple’s costume.

The knock on her door jars Kara out of her thoughts. A quick scan twists her lips into a pout. As excited as she is to see her sister and her family, she hoped that Lena would arrive first. Setting her eyes on her eager niece in her cute costume brightens her spirits again and scoops her up.

“Aren’t you just the cutest little baby pink shark?” Kara coos, blowing kisses all over Esme’s giggling face. Kara props Esme up against her hip and bites her lips at Alex and Kelly’s costumes. “And aren’t you two the cutest little parent sharkies? I must say, it’s a bit of a change from Alex’s usual FBI costume that isn’t really a costume and a terrible cover to carry her gun.”

“Just because I’m in a blue shark onesie doesn’t mean I can’t carry,” Alex grumbles, kissing Kara’s cheek and makes her way inside with Kelly, in her yellow shark onesie, following close behind. “Did you just come from work? Even for work, you look too stiff.”

Looking down at her outfit, Kara evaluates her outfit. Deep red, almost maroon, 3-piece suit with a crisp black button up. She has her hair up in a tight, high pony tail to show off her neck. She even has a matching pair of towering heels to complete the look that lay unused by her bed. She may be nearly indestructible, but shoving her feet into those shoes isn’t her idea of a fun Halloween.

“Wait a second…” Alex trails over, squinting at Kara’s outfit. “Lena has an outfit just like that. Christ, Kara! Really? Don’t tell me you’re Lena for Halloween?!”

Kara may not have told Alex that she was going as Lena as Halloween. Or that Lena purchased her a near identical suit to the purple one that has Kara salivating at just the thought of it. She would’ve purchased a purple one for Kara, but it had to be red to fit in with their couple’s costume.

“What’s wrong with being Lena?” Kara asks, setting Esme down.

“That’s not even a costume!” Alex fumes, waving her hands – fins – around.

“I stand to differ. I am proud to be Lena for Halloween.”

Alex rolls her eyes. Seeing as how she won’t win the argument, she steps up to Kara and starts fidgeting with the buttons on her shirt. “Fine, if you’re going to be your girlfriend, you have to perfect the look. You have too many buttons done up. You may not be as ample as Lena is, but there’s enough to work with.”

“Alex!” Kara hisses, smacking her hands away and crossing her arms to protect her dignity. “Lena doesn’t do that…anymore.”

“Hah! You don’t remember because you were occupied with her boobs! She just did it the last game night to win against you!”

Kara isn’t about to admit that she does remember that or how Alex called Lena out on it. She has a love-hate relationship with all the button ups that Lena wears. Since getting together, disappointment fills her whenever Lena doesn’t wear a button up. She knows she purposely wore that button up instead of a comfy shirt for game night to tease her all night.

To get them off the topic of Lena’s assets, Kara gathers them around the snacks. Esme goes on and on about the path that she’s carefully chosen to get the best candy loot of any kid. The smile on Kara’s lips feels like it’s going to rip her face in two. She misses that aspect of Halloween. The youthful innocence of going door to door asking for candy and comparing her loot against Alex’s.

“Kara, is this all the candy you bought for tonight?” Kelly asks, shaking the bowl that is half-empty which is definitely through no fault of hers or Esme’s.

“No, that’s the candy for us,” Kara replies, swallowing the last bit of snack sized Hershey’s bar. “Lena wanted to handle the candy for trick-or-treaters because she’s never participated in giving it out before.”

That was a crime. Sure, Lena told Kara how generous amounts of candy are handed out for patients and staff at the hospital and at work, but never at home. Kids are non-existent in her complex. Who is Kara to deny Lena this simple pleasure in life in debating what candy to purchase for children? Kara also secretly hopes that Lena brings some candy for them to snack on themselves throughout the night.

Speak of the devil, Lena’s delicate knock rings out. It confuses Kara. Lena has had a key for years. There’s no reason why Lena shouldn’t be strutting her gorgeous self into Kara’s apartment and getting greeted with kisses from Kara.

“Lena!” Kara gasps in the doorway. By Lena’s feet are three large bags filled to the brim with boxes of candy. “What is all this?”

“I wasn’t sure how many kids come ringing your bell. I had to come prepared,” she explains, reaching up and pressing a long kiss to Kara’s cheek. She migrates her lips to Kara’s ear and adds, “I might have a couple special treats for my girlfriend in addition to the leftover trick-or-treat candy.”

Pure elation at the thought of sugary candy has Kara pulling back and hefting all three bags into her hands. Lena follows closely behind and closes her door as Kara places the bags on her dining table.

“Luthor, I didn’t realize Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory was real,” Alex teases, rifling through the bags. “You must’ve bought out the whole store.”

“Well, my girlfriend’s home is going to be the cool door on the floor.”

The sour expression on Alex’s face is challenged with Lena’s famous eyebrow lift. Kara’s too busy pulling out box after box of the full-sized candy bars to notice the exchange.

“What’s with the glasses and the trench coat? You better not be topless under there. My child and wife are here!”

That gets Kara’s attention. She was so focused on the candy stuffed bags and greeting Lena that what she’s wearing wasn’t noticed. Her outfit also confuses Kara. As lovely as Lena’s coat is, hugging her in all the right places and tempting Kara to come over and run her hands all over them, this isn’t what Lena was supposed to be wearing.

“Agent Danvers, do you really believe I’d come across National City half naked with troublesome children and paparazzi roaming the streets? I have some dignity.” Lena pauses, leaning back against Kara’s table and a hooded look overcoming her as she hungrily locks eyes with Kara. “Clothes are arbitrary. Kara can look through my clothes any time she desires.”

Lena has taken great joy in tormenting Alex ever since they became official. As much as Kara’s face floods red every time Lena makes a suggestive comment in front of her sister, the fact that Lena can have a semblance of a genuine sibling relationship is worth it. Even if Alex’s exaggerated gagging is off putting.

“I do have to say, you are absolutely devasting in this suit,” Lena says, voice growing huskier by the word. Her arm slinks around Kara’s waist, pulling her close. “You wear it a lot better than I ever could.”

Bashfully, Kara ducks her head down with new meaning to the red in her cheeks matching her suit. “You’re kidding. I’m no big bad CEO.”

“You’re just the big bad editor-in-chief of CatCo.” Lena winks and pulls away slightly from Kara, undoing the tie of her coat. “It’s only fair. You’re all in costume. I suppose I should be in costume too?”

“Lena,” Alex warns at Lena’s loud announcement. “I swear to God, if you-“

One for dramatics, Lena flashes Alex. While Alex’s scream reverberates off the walls and she covers her eyes, everyone else laughs. Only after Alex uncovers her eyes does Lena shrug the coat off and drape it over Kara’s chair.

“My God, you’re dressed as Kara, assistant to Cat Grant.”

The stipulations of how Lena dressed as Kara were purposefully left ambiguous. Kara was curious to see what Lena chose. And Lena’s choice wants to slowly kill Kara.

For years, she was teased for her fashion sense or lack of fashion sense. Kara was and still is comfortable with her chinos, cardigans, sweaters, and button ups. Seeing Lena in a pair of dark blue chinos and a white button up with her sleeves rolled up is better than Kara could ever imagine. It’s not even that different than what Lena would usually wear. Throw in the glasses and the Kara-esque ponytail? Whole new person. This must have been what Lena felt like every time she saw Kara like this.

“Keep it in your pants! There is a child here!” Alex smacks Kara in the back of her head to stop her ogling. Not that it does anything. Flies continue to have their merry way in and out of Kara’s mouth.

“You haven’t even seen my best trick, darling.” A mischievous expression grows on Lena’s face. She starts unbuttoning her shirt, a move Kara is very familiar with in many different contexts, as Alex shouts at her to stop. “Do you really believe anyone except the Girl of Steel gets an all exclusive with Lena Luthor? Give a Luthor some credit.”

“You’re very pretty, Aunt Lena!” Esme bounces over and extends her arms to get lifted. Lena obliges, and Kara’s eyes hone in on how Lena’s pants stretch across her thighs. “Do I get any of your candy?”

“Well, if it’s okay with your moms, you can choose any bar you want.”

There’s more than enough candy to go around. Everyone except Lena partakes in their choice of candy while Lena digs through her large handbag.

“I have a special treat for Kara,” Lena announces, biting a smile back. She scans all the eyes and finally lands on Kara’s. Blindly, she whips out an orange and yellow package. Kara’s eyes immediately brighten up.

“Big Reese’s cups!” Kara squeals and snatches the candy from Lena’s hands, ripping the package open. A pinch of superspeed, a spoon is in her hand and she tears into one of the two half pound Reese’s cups in front of her. “This is so good!”

“You’re such a child.” Alex bunches up her Kit Kat wrapper and tosses it at Kara’s forehead. Not one care is given to the fleck of dust whacking her. “Really? Only you could get excited at Reese’s cups bigger than your palm.”

There is just something about bigger Reese’s that Kara’s taste buds love. Maybe it’s the fact that she can eat more and it’s not all gone instantly. Or maybe it’s the fact that there is more delicious chocolaty and peanut butter goodness to indulge in. She wishes potstickers came in mega sizes too.

“It’s either this or she’s going to tear into all the Reese’s for the kids and start invading your claim on the Kit Kats,” Lena points out, eying how Kara has already inhaled one of the mega Reese’s and making quick work on the second one. “Nothing worse than a Kryptonian with an empty stomach on Halloween.”

It takes a mere minute for the other Reese’s cup to disappear into Kara’s stomach. When Esme tries mimicking Kara and reaches for a full-sized Hershey’s bar when her Twix remains mostly uneaten, Kelly sweeps in and stops that. There’s no need for two children hyped up on sugar this early on.

“Now that my girlfriend’s stomach is satisfied with enough sugar to induce a coma in a regular human being, I’d like to reveal my final trick of the night,” Lena announces in a voice that draws everyone towards her again. A smirk, almost haughty, flashes on her lips that changes into almost bashful as she fiddles with her glasses, a mannerism that might as well be trademarked by Kara. “I still can’t believe I was fooled by a pair of glasses for so many years.”

Kara knows what those glasses hold, but she truly isn’t prepared for the out of world experience of Lena removing her glasses. Instead of whipping them off and vanishing into thin air to save the day, she methodically takes them off and casually places them on the counter as her new and improved nanobot technology materializes.

Thigh high red boots, red flowing skirt, blue lycra stretching across her lean form, red cape billowing behind her, and front of center is the House of El symbol. Her original Supergirl outfit paired with modern technology.

“El Mayarah.”

The proud smile that Lena bears as she pounds the symbol against her chest makes Kara lose all motor functioning. On several occasions, Lena has decided to traipse around her apartment wearing her cape, only her cape. That only resulted in them rolling around in the sheets and any chance of a productive, giving back to society kind of morning was off the table. She certainly won’t complain about those kinds of mornings, and Lena certainly isn’t either since she keeps doing it.

But putting the whole ensemble together, getting a live version of what Lena would look like as a real superhero, how the entire world should view her each and every day rather than focus on the crimes of her family, creates an ethereal vision for Kara.

“Miss Luthor, who would’ve ever thought? A Super and a Luthor working together for the greater good of the world.” Lena confidently strides over to Kara, holding herself similarly and differently than she usually would and drawing from her business persona and how she’s observed Supergirl’s body language. “Delivering justice and candy to the youth of National City.”

“All that Kara’s missing now is three fingers of scotch.” Alex snickers and winds up elbowed by Kelly. “Supergirl, I do believe you’ve rendered her useless with your appearance.”

Alex is right. All forms of communication leave Kara’s brain and leave her as a puddle of mush. Seeing as Kara has become incapacitated, Kelly collects Esme and nudges her and Alex towards the door to begin trick-or-treating.

Their exit isn’t without one more snarky comment from Alex.

“Brunette Supergirl doesn’t sit right with me.”

And then, they’re finally alone. Blue eyes have followed Lena around the apartment. Neither words nor sounds have fallen from Kara’s lips, mind running a million miles a second trying to articulate the feelings that overcome her. When Lena’s mere feet from her, she strikes the iconic Supergirl pose with her hands on her hips with a cocky smile that’s more Lena rather Kara.

“I have rendered you speechless. What an exhilarating feeling it is to hold this power over you.”

Hindsight is twenty-twenty. Kara finally understands why she’s been frozen in time.

She leaps from her seat, grasps Lena’s face in her hands, and seals their lips together before Lena can react. Like the first time, sparks jolt through Kara’s body and shock Lena based on the quiver in her body. Kara’s hands snake around her to stabilize her shaky knees.

“You’ve held that power over me ever since we met in your office and when I saved you from your helicopter,” Kara whispers into her lips, bringing them together for another, slower kiss. At the same time, she presses her hands against the House of El symbol protecting Lena’s heart and feeling its frantic beat beneath her fingers. “I just wish we’d realized sooner so we could’ve been doing this all these years.”

“Me too,” Lena whispers, a twinge of somberness filling her voice. “Also, you taste like Reese’s.” Lena swirls her tongue to savor the remnants of the sweet goodness of Reese’s and Kara mixed together on her lips. “Let me help you with that. You can’t be a Luthor with chocolate smeared all over your lips. Of all the ways to besmirch the Luthor image.”

Cleaning up Kara’s lips is a great pleasure for both of them. But alas, the chocolate is eventually kissed and licked away from Kara’s mouth and they receive their first trick-or-treater.

Together, they tag team the door and watch as children’s eyes widen to saucers at the choice of full-sized candy bars. Lena does have to smack Kara a couple times to stop sneaking candy bars so they have enough for all the kids. Kara has to hold her tongue as she pouts, seeing the mountain of candy boxes on her table. Unless all the kids within a five-block radius came knocking on her door, there is more than enough candy for her to keep up her strength.

All the kids flock to Lena. Kara’s out as Supergirl, but none of them seem to recognize her in her Lena Luthor costume. That or the fog of candy and sugar take priority over getting to meet National City’s resident superhero so they settle for the imposter.

Watching the kids all smiling and jumping at the chance to speak with Lena makes Kara’s heart want to burst from her chest. Especially after the numerous threats and attempts on Luthor Family Hospital and the lead poisoning incident that have gone against Lena. For tonight, they get to meet a real-life superhero that the world has yet to truly recognize and separate from the rest of her family’s crime.

Soon enough, the trick-or-treats dwindle down, and as Kara suspected, there is still dozens of candy bars remaining. Lena, the ever generous and kind person she is, puts a small table outside the door and leaves four boxes for any stranglers or any of her neighbors who need a sweet treat after a late night out.

“Damn it!” Lena hisses, clipping her hip against a corner of Kara’s island.

Kara rushes over and asks what she can do to help. Before Lena can respond, Kara drops to her knees and kisses the afflicted spot over clothing. Lena gently shoos Kara’s face away and pulls her skirt down a little and her shirt up.

“That’s going to leave a bruise,” Lena mutters, revealing the already darkening spot against her pale skin. “If only I were really Supergirl.”

“You’re Supergirl to all those kids tonight. And my Supergirl forever.” The kiss she presses against Lena’s skin rattles with the shiver shooting through Lena at her words.

My Supergirl,” Lena echoes softly, combing her fingers through Kara’s pony tail. If Kara didn’t have super hearing, she may not have heard it. “And I’ll be your Luthor, standing with you for every battle that we’re challenged with and being co-mastermind behind all our supporting technology.”

Lena offers a hand to Kara, acting the part of Supergirl and good girlfriend. Kara takes it, but when Lena attempts to pull her up, Kara twists her hand around and kisses the back of Lena’s hand. The flattery brings a roaring fire to Lena’s cheeks, and against Kara’s better judgement, boosts her ego to elicit such a profound reaction from her with a simple hand kiss.

“I am honored to have you as my humble partner in crime.” Kara rises to her feet and kisses her again, collecting Lena in her arms to prevent her wobbly legs from collapsing beneath her. As soon as their lips separate, Kara scoops her up in a squealing bridal carry.

“Wait, wait, wait! My bag!” Lena fires off, reaching for her bag. “The couch please, darling.”

Lena’s softly deposited onto the couch with Kara quickly following and falling on top of her. Laughter bubbles out of both of their chests, and they engage in another make out session. Kara tries initiating another one, but Lena presses on her chest and reluctantly retreats.

“I have one more treat for you tonight,” Lena drawls, reaching into her bag and whipping out another package of big Reese’s cup that Kara jerks for. “Ah! These are for us to share!”

And they do share them over Kara’s coffee table. Kara in her Lena Luthor costume and Lena in her Supergirl suit. Kara winds up eating most of Lena’s Reese’s cup in addition to her own. Despite Kara’s greedy appetite, Lena doesn’t seem to mind. Especially when they both taste like chocolate and peanut butter.

Kara especially loves when Lena’s on top of her, the House of El proudly displayed on her chest and cape draped protectively around them. Kara loves it even more when she’s out of the restrictive suit that she can’t believe Lena wears on a daily basis for twelve hours a day. Kara loves it the most when she gets to strip Lena of her original Supergirl suit and wrap herself around her soft body to protect and cherish her like she deserves for the rest of her life.

As great as the Halloween candy is, Lena in her bed makes this the best Halloween ever.

Notes:

This was really just an excuse for me to write about candy and Kara and Lena switching wardrobes for an evening. Happy Halloween!
