Work Text:
"Mr. D, can I go get some water?" Kevin raised his hand.
"I would prefer if it you didn't go during class but any time without you is good time."
Kevin got up from seat and was making his way to the door when Demartino put his right foot in his path and.....
"AHHHHHHHHHHH!" Demartino screamed and tried to hold his foot as bright, red blood gushed out of his brown dress shoe and created a giant puddle on the floor.
"I'm sorry Mr. D, I didn't realize my shoes were so sharp; I'll go get the nurse. Kevin ran out of the room and rushed to the nurse's office as quickly as he could.
"Ms. Roy, I'm sorry to interrupt you but it's an emergency!" Kevin burst into the room and ran to Ms. Roy's desk.
"Kevin, what happened?!" Ms. Roy jumped out of her seat and grabbed the first aid kit by her desk.
"I stepped on Mr. D's foot and he's bleeding out of his shoe." Kevin spoke quickly and fidgeted as he paced.
"You're saying that you stepped on your teacher's foot and now he's bleeding?" Ms. Roy glared at him with her blue eyes and crossed her arms.
"Yes he is, I saw it with my eyes." Kevin waved his hands around as he spoke.
"Let's go check it out." Ms. Roy walked out the door with Kevin trailing not too far behind the short woman.
Ms. Roy couldn't help but gasp when she entered the classroom; Inside, Jodie and Brittany were holding Mr. Demartino's sock to his foot, the custodian, Mr. Doughty was cleaning up the blood while Jane carried an ill looking Daria out of the classroom.
"Brittany and Jodie, you can join the rest of your class in the hall, I'll handle things from here." Ms. Roy rushed to where Mr. Demartino was sitting while Jodie and Brittany left the room.
"Hi Mr. Daughtry." Kevin waved to the custodian.
"Kevin, my name is Dow tee, not Dau tree."
"Kevin, could you step out of the room and join the rest of your class please?" Ms. Roy requested as she bandaged Mr. Demartino's foot.
"Okay, bye Ms. Roy and Mr. Daughtry" Kevin walked out of the door and into the hall.
"He's never gonna get my right, is he?" Mr. Doughty sighed.
"Probably not, he can't even say Demartino properly."
"Fair," Mr. Doughty shrugged.
"Hey, could you call 911? I can't get the bleeding to stop." Ms. Roy asked.
"Sure thing." Mr. Doughty dropped his mop and walked to the phone by the classroom door.

Once the paramedics had arrived and whisked Mr. Demartino away, Ms. Roy went to check on Daria, who noticed looked a bit sick earlier. Ms. Roy had to walk around a little to find her but eventually, she found Daria in the corner behind the stairs with Jane sitting next to her.
"Hey Daria, are you okay, I noticed you looked a little sick earlier?" Ms. Roy sat down next to Daria.
"Yeah I'm fine, just got startled by all the blood." Daria looked up from her book as a wave of nausea hit her.
"Daria?"
"Yes, Ms. Roy?"
"Did you feel sick before you came to school or was this caused by the incident?" Ms. Roy asked as she moved closer to Daria.
"I wasn't sick before it happened but after seeing so much blood, I threw up..." Daria paused as more nausea crept up on her.
"Come honey, let's go to my office." Ms. Roy attempted to get Daria to stand up.
"I'm fine, I just can't think about it without feeling nauseous." Daria reassured the kind nurse.
"I get it honey, If I was in your situation, I'd feel nauseous afterwards as well but, I have to tell your parents you threw up anyways." Ms. Roy replied, looking Daria in the eye.
"Don't worry, I'm fine, I just needed a minute to recollect myself." Daria looked away from the nurse's unbreaking eye contact.
"Daria, I know you're not sick and that you're okay to attend classes but I legally have to tell your parents if something happens. I'm not sending you home; like I said, you're good to go to class. I just need to let your parents know, okay," Ms. Roy asserted.
Daria walked over and slung her bag over her shoulder, "Okay, Ms. Roy." Daria sighed as she followed the nurse.
"Take care, Daria." Jane said to her friend as she left for her next class.
"See you soon, Jane." Daria waved.
-------------------------------------------------------
"Just to let you know, my dad is out of town and my mom's secretary answers all calls through her work number before forwarding it to her." Daria explained as she sat down on the light blue cot behind her.
"Okay, thanks for letting me know." Ms. Roy replied.
"Your welcome."
"Now, Daria." Ms. Roy looked at her.
"Yes, Ms. Roy."
"I'm going to be at my desk; If you feel sick, there is a trash can beside you, okay," Ms. Roy explained.
Daria nodded in response.
"Good." Ms. Roy said before walking towards her desk.
After walking to her desk, Ms. Roy pulled out her chair and sat down. Then, she reached for the address book on the desk and searched for Daria's parent's numbers. Once she found Helen's work number, she grabbed the phone and punched in the number.
"Hello, you have reached Maryanne Bowman, Helen Morgendorffer's secretary at Vitale, Davis, Schrecter, Schrecter and Schrecter, how may I help you?" Maryanne cheerfully answered the phone.
"Damnit, I forgot Mel and Rick's name." Maryanne thought to herself.
"Hello Maryanne, this is Bernice Roy, nurse at Lawndale High. I am calling because Helen's daughter, Daria threw up at school due to an unfortunate incident," Ms. Roy explained.
"I'll forward you to Helen right away. Also, tell Daria I said get well soon, bye."
"I will, take care, Maryanne." Ms.Roy replied before she was put on hold.
"Hello, Helen Morgendorffer speaking; is this Ms. Roy."
"Yes, I am."
"You said that Daria threw up due to an incident, care to elaborate?" Helen questioned.
"Today in Daria's history class, a student stepped on her teacher's foot so hard it caused his foot to bleed profusely and Daria threw up after seeing that amount of blood on the floor." Ms. Roy explained.
"Oh my god, is her teacher okay?!" Helen yelled through the phone.
"Don't worry, the teacher is doing fine. He's currently at the hospital right now." Ms. Roy assured.
"Okay that's good, how's Daria then?" Helen asked.
"She's okay but still a bit shaken up."
"Is she still sick?"
"No, she hasn't thrown up since but she does get a wave of nausea from thinking about the event."
"Is she okay to return to class or does she need to come home?"
"She's clear to go to class but if she throws up again, I'll let you know."
"Thank you, have a good rest of your day."
"You too, take care." Ms. Roy hung up the phone, stood up and walked towards Daria.
"Daria, you're free to go to class, just give this note to your teacher." Ms. Roy handed the yellow sticky note to her.
"Thank you, Ms. Roy." Daria stood up and grabbed her bag.
"You're welcome, sweetheart."
"Bye."
"Have a good rest of your day."
"You too." Daria walked out of the room and went to her next class.
