Chapter 1: Chapter 1

Chapter Text

Three months have passed since the firefighter's ball, and everything has remained seemingly calm.

Station 19 had become what it used to be, a home. Ruiz had decided to go to station 88, Beckett was still in therapy and Vic was slowly getting back to being that jovial girl she was, that sarcastic and irritating little sister we all loved.

Andy was everything you could ask for in a captain, firm but approachable. Kind and understanding.

Ben was still the papa bear of the station, Travis and Eli were better than ever and what about my relationship with Carina; turning down the captaincy had been the best thing I had ever done in my life.

Sullivan and Chief Ross had taken a holiday; getting away from the drama.

You may have noticed that I have left someone unnamed, Gibson.

Jack scared the hell out of all of us when he collapsed in Travis' arms, I don't think we've ever done a transfer as fast as the one we did with Jack to the Grey-Sloan.

Carina had mobilized everything, calling Altman and Shepherd who, as soon as they arrived at the emergency room door, took charge of the situation and moved Gibson to one of the OR.

It was an agonizing 6 hours for everyone, but it was all worth it. Jack was fine as far as we could tell. The week in intensive care was a fact, but with the goddess of neurosurgery as your doctor, what could go wrong?

We went back to work, but that didn't stop us from getting daily updates from my wife and Ben's wife.

He has not yet been given the 'go-ahead', but according to the information we have... it won't be long before the 19th is complete again.

"Bambina, are you OK?"

"Yeah, why?"

"You are crying while watching 'Bambi', you don't cry while watching 'Bambi'; with 'Finding Nemo' yes; but not with 'Bambi'; you say it is a story of overcoming and it should be applauded; not cried."

"The hormones" was my answer as I snuggled tighter against Carina.

Indeed; we had started treatment.

If I was already a person with little patience, the hormones didn't help. I was more irritable, I reacted to the slightest thing... but it all came to nothing when the thought of a DeLuca-Bishop baby popped into my head.

"Tomorrow is the appointment with Dr. Montgomery, she will tell us if it is time for the trigger shot, and my Italian intuition tells me it is." said Carina as she gently caressed my lower belly and left a kiss on my temple.

"Let's hope so, for the sake of our friends" I replied as I began to laugh.

I wasn't going to miss the hormones.

"Relax, I think they prefer hormonal Maya to Clipboard Queen Maya Bishop" replied my wife as she helped me off the sofa "Now, off to bed. Tomorrow is an important day and we need to rest so no games Maya DeLuca Bishop, am I making myself clear?"

"Yeah, mom"

"I prefer mamma, mommy" she answered.

The next morning, as had been a habit for the last 8 days, I woke up alone in bed.

Carina was in the kitchen, and from the noise I could hear, making my smoothie.

Spinach, nuts, avocado, peach and blueberries.

It sounds disgusting, but I've had worse.

Thank you, Lane Bishop, my smoothie tolerance is at an all-time high.

I've always had an iron stomach, but hormones have also played a trick on me in that area; unlike Carina; she had been on hormones for two days less than me and had not had any side effects; at least not the annoying kind.

Who's going to mind if his wife is more affectionate than usual? Not me.

After a quick shower, I took the injection that was due that day, got dressed and went out to meet my wonderful Italian wife.

"Buongiorno amore mio, sei pronta?"

"Sì, tesoro. Sono pronto" I replied, waiting for her reaction.

"That, that was Italian? Maya, when did you learn to speak Italian?"

"I wouldn't say I speak Italian, but knowing that my wife and my son or daughter will speak Italian; I will have to understand what you say, don't you think?" I asked as I took a sip of my smoothie.

"I just fell in love with you again, Maya Bishop"

"DeLuca Bishop, Dr." I said as I kiss her lips.

Her lips met mine again, it was brief, but let's be honest, any kiss with Carina was a short one.

I'm so damn grateful to be able to call this woman my wife.

Breakfast ready, we set off for the clinic. Seeing Carina behind the wheel was something I would never tire of seeing. She and her Porsche were something to behold.

"I think I'm going to change my car"

"Why? Your Porsche is perfect and on top of that it's a family car, it's perfect for us. If we had to change a car it would be mine, it is 10 years old and it is the car of a woman without children. We are going to have a child." I said breathlessly, Carina wouldn't leave her Porsche as my name is Maya.

"Model X, it's a good family car and it's environmentally friendly."

"It is a very expensive car"

"We have enough money, and as a Spanish film that I like very much says 'Que me quiten lo bailao', it's basically that you do now what you can't do when you don't have time to do it."

"I think it's to much money for a car babe, we are having a baby, and that is not cheap. We will need a lot of things, clothes..."

"Bambina, I earn about 400K a year and you earn almost 100K which I think is very unfair because it puts your life at risk; besides, I've been saving for years... I won't even notice it in my account."

"What if it's not one but two babies? We won't fit in the apartment, and we'll have to buy a house, and they're not cheap Carina."

"Amore mio, don't worry about it. I know it seems like a lot of money, but in the long run you will see the benefit. And if two babies come along and we must buy a house we'll buy it... we don't have financial problems luckily and the security and stability of our family is something I don't mind spending all my money on."

"Well well, if it isn't my favorite lesbian couple. Don't tell the others." Dr Montgomery said as she entered the examination room. "You know how it goes Carina but as a matter of protocol I have to say it. We are going to do a vaginal ultrasound to see the state of your ovaries Maya and then we will decide if it is time for a trigger shot or not."

The feeling was familiar, but never the same as when Carina did it... you know what I mean.

"Olympic athlete, Olympic ovaries. You are more than ready. I will give you the prescription for the trigger shot, you apply it tonight at 23:00 and we will see you tomorrow at 11:00 for the extraction. I'll let you get dressed" said Addison.

"We are having a baby, bambina"

"Let's become moms"
