Chapter Text
“Sina, such a pretty name. A pretty name for a pretty girl,” the tall lanky blond slid into the seat next to her and wrapped a strand of dark brown hair around his finger. Sina tried not to recoil, she was used to handsy clients. Just smile and flirt. They pay more, she told herself.
“A pretty girl like you shouldn’t trouble herself with such dangerous tasks, getting in bed with dangerous men. A man should be ready to take care of you,” he crooned. “Mr. Bellavaugn, most men can’t afford me,” Sina teased and eyed his hand as it pushed her dress up her thigh.
Sina grabbed his hand moving it to her knee safely away from anything else he might try to touch. He didn’t take the hint wrapping his arm around her shoulders tightly and dragging her into his side. “Oh I think I could, sweet girl,” he tilted her chin up with one finger and leaned in close.
Sina jumped up grabbing the package off the table leaving him to fall on his face. “Oh look at the time!” Laughed checking her watch, “I gotta get to the docks before the next ship leaves,” she hummed. He grabbed her wrist pulling her back, “so soon sweet girl,” he murmured.
Sina tugged at his grip but he didn’t release her, “unfortunately, I have to…” Sina halted when she felt it. The eyes on her, familiar and intimidating. She scanned the dark bar looking for him, hidden away no doubt watching. She needed to go. Now.
“I’m so sorry I have to get to the dock to get your boss's package there on time,” she smiled and yanked her hand away darting off into the crowd before he could make another attempt. An attempt that could cost her, an attempt that couldn’t smell trouble for them both.
Sina made a break for the door and out into the street. The night air of the island was cold, even worse in a tight dress. She made her way quickly to the inn she had rented not too far from the bar. Sina felt eyes on her but no matter where she looked all she saw was empty streets.
She scurried into the safety of the inn and up to her room. Slamming the door closed she leaned against it and locked it. There was no way he could have found her, she had been careful. Sina even avoided having a bounty this far with as much as she worked in the underground.
Sina still felt eyes on her no matter being safe in her room. She carefully inched her way to the window peering out into the dark streets below. Dina’s eyes were fixed on the darkness until she saw him. Standing just in the shadows away from the street lamps.
Her heart hammered in her chest, trapped and trying to make an escape. Until she saw the flash of purple from Mr. Bellavaugn’s suit. It wasn’t him, it was just that stupid ass following her this whole time. Sina sighed, shutting the curtain closed and turning in for the night. No need to fear him, just a handsy asshole. Probably annoyed she didn’t really go to the docks, but she had her money.
—
Sina slipped out into the darkness of the early morning. She would sleep more on the ship, for now, a few hours was enough. She was only twenty minutes from the docks as she made her way down the street. Her outfit is much warmer now that it covers her whole body.
She expected the cold air, what she didn’t expect was the hand that shot out from the alleyway dragging her in. She didn’t even have time to scream as a hand covered her mouth and a voice spoke calmly. “Shh no need for all that,” he murmured. Sina stared back at the man holding her against the wall. Bellavaugn, he looked irritated of course.
“Pretty Sina, I wasn’t done with my conversation last night. I heard you were beautiful but the comments just didn’t do you justice,” he breathed, pinning her arms to the wall by her wrists. Sina jerked her knee up aiming for his groin but he laughed moving far enough back on his long legs to keep out of reach.
She kicked her leg out swiftly into his ribs and this time connected. Bellavaugn grunted at the impact and swore as he released her. Sina turned for the docks aiming for a dead sprint but the man was faster than she anticipated. He snatched her by the hair and yanked her hard backward into the wall.
Before she could gather her thoughts Bellavaugn struck her hard across the face. So hard Sina quickly tasted blood in her mouth as she slumped against the wall for support. Dizzy and disoriented. “We could have done this the easy way Sina, a sweet girl like you. It’s sad really tha…” Sina turned him out.
The slightest movement at the end of the alleyway caught her attention. Those were the eyes she had felt on her last night, there was no mistaking it, and Bellavaugn…He wouldn’t be alive much longer. “You should run,” Sina sputtered, wiping blood from her mouth as she cut him off.
He looked at her as if she had lost her mind before forcing a twisted laugh from his lips. “You may be pretty but not very bright. I like my bitches dumb tho…” He didn’t let Bellavaugn finish that sentence. That deep familiar voice rumbled lazily as if it had been interrupted from a nap, “Room,”.
Sina almost felt pity for Bellavaugn at that moment, “shambles,”. One moment Bellavaugn was there, the next he wasn’t. Sina watched as the man’s heart became a beating box in the skillful surgeon's hand. The Surgeon of Death, She backed into the wall trying to catch her breath. He had caught up to her.
Trafalgar D. Water Law.
Sina watched as the box grew smaller, and Bellavaugn doubled over coughing, blood spewing from his lips. It was no love lost, a man like him taken out of this world, he took part in human trafficking. Sina had only been there for his employer and her paycheck. However, Law being here that was a problem she didn’t account for. How had he caught up to her so quickly?
“He should have kept his pathetic hands to himself. To touch what’s mine, that’s dumb.” Law smirked down at the dying man as the box squeezed his heart. “But to lay hands on her, that’s suicide,” he said darkly as the box made one final squeeze effectively ending the gasping man’s life.
Law walked with a casual grace that she knew was a trick to put those around him at ease. He was lethal, deadly, and calculated in every move he made. He stopped at her feet before crouching down and grabbing her chin. “You always knew how to get your pretty ass in trouble Sin,” he clicked his tongue as if chastising a child.
“Law,” she panted as his thumb brushed her bottom lip. “I have had enough of this temper tantrum, we’re going back to the Polar Tang,” he muttered, eyeing her bag as he reached for it and slung it over his shoulder.
“I’m not your property Law, you can’t just force me onto the Polar Tang,” she hissed. Law ignored her reaching into his pocket as he shifted her bag on his shoulder. “I wasn’t asking Sin,” he murmured eyeing her closely.
“Neither was I, I’m not going back.” She gritted out. Law sighed and moved faster than Sina’s mind could even comprehend. Something sharp stuck her thigh and she hissed. “What the fuck Law,” she panted as whatever drug he had given her took quick effect. Her body felt heavy and her eyes even heavier. “Let's get you cleaned up baby,” he murmured scooping her up off the ground as she passed out.
