Work Text:
Fashion has never been in the forefront of the mind of one Monkey D. Luffy.
It showed in how he dressed himself most of the time, sticking to loud and colorful shirts, shorts (or the occasional jeans when the weather required it), his signature straw hat, and slippers or sandals. He didn't really care about how he dressed, and he didn't care what others thought about his non-existent fashion sense.
Nami has tried several times to get him to dress properly for the occasion, and she has succeeded perhaps only once when she managed to force Luffy into a suit for her wedding with Vivi, and even that involved a large amount of blackmail and threatening to ban Luffy from the buffet table, a ban which he knew Sanji was going to be all-too-eager to enforce if Nami ordered it.
Luffy was stuck in a stuffy suit for five whole hours, and he couldn't even slip away to change during the reception when Nami had eyes on him at all times. How she did that while speaking to her guests and lavishing her new wife with attention, Luffy would never know, but he will forever stand by the belief that Nami had eyes in the back of her head.
So yeah, Luffy didn't particularly care about fashion. Not like Nami or Robin, or hell, even Sanji, did. Styles come and go, but no matter what, Luffy was content with his normal everyday clothing and stuck to what was comfortable and just him .
He also really never noticed it when other people dressed up. Clothes were clothes after all. Why did it matter what you looked like?
Which is why it confused him just a little bit why he found himself staring, jaw slack, at the man standing at the bar, with his long long legs clad in skintight black jeans and boots with a small heel that served to emphasize muscular calves. He wore a sleeveless turtleneck, displaying the long lines of ink across his arms, and his outfit was finished off with a mustard yellow jacket tied around his waist that only served to highlight his figure more. Luffy also noted the gold earrings, the neatly trimmed goatee, and the painted nails. He was a vision, a gorgeous work of art that Luffy wanted nothing more than to marvel at. Museums and art galleries bored him in general, but he could stare at this man all day if he was allowed.
When space was made available at the bar where the man stood, Luffy immediately shoved his (nonalcoholic) drink towards a confused Usopp and made his way over.
"Hey," he said with a grin as he sidled up next to the man. "I'm Monkey D. Luffy."
"I'm not interested," the man drawled, not even deigning to look at him, and took a sip of his drink. Luffy's eyes were drawn to his fingers, to the letters tattooed on the knuckles, spelling out DEATH. Gorgeous and a badass to boot? Luffy wanted to know more about him.
Undeterred, Luffy grinned wider. "You with anyone?"
"Not that it's any of your business, but yes," came the short reply. When no more information was volunteered, Luffy decided to fill in the silence.
"Well, I'm here for Zoro's birthday. He's my best friend! We met back in high school in detention because he was in detention, but I really wasn't in detention, and I accidentally walked into the wrong classroom but hey!" Luffy exclaimed, and he winced when his yell slightly startled the man who now looked back at him with a glare. "It was a good thing Mr. Morgan wasn't there, so I broke Zoro out of detention and I asked him if he wanted to be my friend, but he said no, so I asked him again the next day and he still said no, but then one day we fought some assholes bullying this little girl from the middle school, and then Zoro became my friend!"
Luffy beamed up at the guy who was now staring at him, eyebrows furrowed, frowning in confusion. Luffy could see the dark circles under his eyes being this close to him.
"So you basically annoyed him into being your friend. Somehow, I am not surprised," came the response after a few beats. The man then turned back to his drink, his eyes now looking over at the crowd, and Luffy could sense that he was already losing this guy's attention, so he blurted out the first thing that came to mind, the first thing he really noticed about this guy.
"I like your outfit!" He exclaimed, and the man turned to look back at him, an eyebrow raised. "Your tattoos look great too. It uh…looks great…on you! You look great! Really great."
The man regarded him with a flat stare before he let out a sigh. "Thank you, I guess."
The conversation paused there for a moment, with Luffy not knowing what to say next because truly, what do you say next in these situations? He's never had much trouble talking to complete strangers, but this guy just somehow had a weird effect on him, leaving him tongue-tied and nervous. What to say? What to do? How can Luffy start to get to know this person who seemed to be insistent on holding up a wall between the-
"So, where are your friends?" the man suddenly asked, causing Luffy to whip his head around to face him. "I would have figured you'd be celebrating your best friend's birthday with them instead of standing here at the bar and trying to pick up a stranger."
"Oh," Luffy blushed. "I'm…I'm not trying to pick you up."
The man raised another eyebrow at him.
"I'm not!" Luffy insisted. "I really just came over here because I found you interesting and I wanted to meet you and get to know you. Maybe even ask you out on a date? And we haven't started the party yet because Zoro's missing."
Alarm flashed across the man's face. "Missing?"
"OH! No, it's fine. Sorry, that came out wrong," Luffy replied sheepishly as he scratched the back of his head. "Zoro can get lost. A lot. Even if it's going to a place he's been before. He even got lost a lot when we were in school and I had to look for him." He remembers this memory fondly with a chuckle. "It's more tough especially if it's a new place, like this bar. Sanji - that's Zoro's boyfriend - is the one who arranged this as a surprise and he liked this bar, so we sent Zoro clear step by step instructions on how to get here but he should have been here an hour ago so Sanji went to go fetch him and hopefully not ruin the surprise but Sanji would never ruin his own surprise, he's really great at surprises! So yeah, we're just waiting, and I saw you here, and well now I'm here, and no Zoro yet!"
The man continued to stare at him, to which Luffy only beamed in return.
"I am somehow more amazed at the fact that you said all of that in a single breath," came the eventual response, like the guy somehow couldn't believe what he was hearing, and Luffy laughed.
"Sorry, I've been told I can be chatty," Luffy said, grinning.
" What ? You, chatty ? I never would have guessed," the man gasped, and oh , was that a hint of sarcasm in his tone as he teased? At least they were getting somewhere.
"I've also been told it's one of my many charms," Luffy added, and he couldn't help the awe he felt when the man let out a snort and held in a laugh. He made the guy laugh! Score for Luffy!
"You must have everyone falling at your feet then."
"I constantly have to beat them off with a stick."
That finally made the guy break, and Luffy was amazed at the sound of laughter coming from this man's lips.
That seemed to have broken the ice because the man finally looks at him, shakes his head, and says, "I'm here with my friends too. They're out there…somewhere," he says, gesturing to the dance floor. "We're celebrating too as a matter of fact."
"Oh? Birthday?"
The guy shakes his head. "We're celebrating the fact that we've finally finished our residencies. We're doctors. Bepo's in peds, Shachi and Penguin for emergency medicine. I've spent the last few years training to be specialized in cardiothoracic surgery."
Gorgeous, a badass, and incredibly smart? Luffy must have done something really good, like maybe liberate an entire nation or two in his past life, to be fortunate enough to meet this person.
"You're doctors? That's so cool!" Luffy expressed and he meant it. "Cardio…that's the heart, right? So can you fix me if I have a broken heart?"
The guy side-eyed him for that one, to which Luffy only giggled in response. "I don't deal with those kinds of heart problems."
Luffy laughed. "Fair enough, but what's the name I should tell the hospital when I'm having a heart attack and need a heart doctor?" He asked innocently.
"You're not very smooth with this," came the response, but it was quickly followed up with, "I'm Trafalgar Law."
Cue the several seconds Luffy tried pronouncing his name only to end it with-
"Torao!"
"What, no."
"Tough shit, that's your nickname now."
"Don't I get a say in this? You give me a nickname as if we're gonna see each other again," Law said.
"Are we not?" Luffy asked cheekily.
Law stared at him for a beat, and Luffy could see the way the tips of his ears turned a bit red at that.
"You have the audacity, I'll give you that," Law said before taking a sip of his drink again. "Why me?"
"Huh?"
Law cleared his throat. "I mean, what is it about me that caught your attention? There's so many other people you could ask out."
Luffy thought for a moment. "I like you."
"We've barely spoken. How can you like me?"
"I dunno, I already do. But, if you give me a chance, I'm sure we'll find out more," Luffy replied with a sincere smile. "Look, I'm not gonna make you do something you don't wanna do, and if you don't wanna go on a date I respect that, but I would like to be friends if you're okay with that, but if you also want me to leave you alone, I can do that too, and well - mmph!"
Luffy blinked as Law placed a finger over his lips in a shushing motion, and it would be just so easy to part his lips and take that digit in his mouth and-
"Before you start spouting your entire life story at me, let me just cut to the chase. Fine, let's go on a date," Law said, not unkindly, and he even had a small smile on his face. Luffy felt his lips part in a smile even with Law's finger still pressing against them.
They exchange numbers, and just as they did, Sanji arrived with Zoro and Luffy had to return to his friends.
"I'll send you the time and place," Luffy promised as he pocketed his phone and pushed himself off the bar where he was leaning. "I gotta get back to my friends."
"I have to look for mine as well. If I Ieave them alone for too long, they'd probably piss off the wrong person and get beat to shit," Law replied before turning back to glance at Luffy. "I can't believe I'm saying this but…I look forward to our date."
Luffy grinned, brimming with excitement as he said his goodbyes to Law before he bounded back over just in time to greet Zoro a happy birthday. It was fun, being with all of them again, but to be honest, his attention was elsewhere.
Law stood out amongst the crowd - and not just because he was easily six feet tall and then some - but because of the way he held himself, confidence oozing with every step. Law looks good, and Luffy knows Law knows he looks good. Luffy could just stare at him all day, and that terrified him a bit because he's never felt this strongly about anyone before.
Still, as he talked to his friends and ate copious amounts of food and sang songs to Zoro who looked equally embarrassed and touched by their antics, Luffy realized he couldn't wait to see what would happen next.
He was very excited.
"I have a date!"
Nami blinked at him from where she opened the door, her irate face quickly morphing into surprise at Luffy's announcement. At least she hasn't shut the door in his face yet, so maybe she was willing to help.
"I'm sorry, could you repeat that?" Nami asked with an incredulous look on her face.
"I have a date," Luffy repeated, giddy with excitement with the thought.
"You don't date," Nami pointed out, still looking like Luffy had announced he was going to quit the fire department and join the traveling circus. Which, actually, did sound like fun now that he thought about it a bit.
"Wha-hey!" Luffy then exclaimed when Nami's words finally sunk in. "Maybe I want to give it a try now."
Nami rolled her eyes as she opened the door wide enough to let Luffy in. "In the entire time I've known you, you have never once wanted to go on a date. Not even when Boa Hancock asked you out, twice. "
Luffy shrugged. "Yeah, but I didn't really like Hancock that much." Plus, she was maybe a decade or more older than him.
"And this one's different?"
Luffy nodded eagerly. "You didn't see him, but Nami! He was gorgeous! And he's got tattoos! And he wore a turtleneck, and he's a doctor, so that means he's smart, and god…" he trailed off at the memory of Law standing like his very own personal angel at the bar.
Nami stared at him.
"Anyways, I just need your help," Luffy continued. "I don't know what to wear, and our date is tomorrow!"
"Wait wait, you're now asking me for fashion advice?" Nami asked incredulously. "Luffy, I had to threaten to cut off your arms when I was having you fitted into a suit."
Luffy waved it off. "I know, I know, I just…I wanna make a good impression for him!"
"Make a good impression for who?" a new voice piped up, and Vivi walked through the door with a smile and a bag of groceries in her arms. Luffy quickly bounded over to help her out.
"Hi, gorgeous," Nami said, greeting her wife with a kiss and a hug. "Luffy's going on a date."
Vivi gasped and immediately pulled Luffy into a hug. "How exciting! Is this your first date?"
Luffy grinned. "Kinda. It's why I'm here. I need your guys' help. I don't know what to wear. I need to make a good first impression."
Vivi made a sympathetic noise while Nami rolled her eyes in response. "I think the fact this person agreed to a date means you already did make a good first impression," Vivi said. "Besides, it's best to be yourself. We know you Luffy, and you would be incredibly uncomfortable in what we consider to be date night clothes."
"And you'll be eating. You know what a mess you make when you do," Nami pointed out.
"That too," Vivi agreed. "Something comfortable and nice, but something you wouldn't mind messing up a bit."
"Just…wear your nicest button-up. The one with the sunflowers, and maybe just wear pants for this one. Your good sneakers too," Nami then suggested. Luffy nodded as he noted her suggestions, thanked them profusely, and proceeded to throw out the entire contents of his closet to look for his sunflower shirt, much to Sabo's chagrin when he saw the chaos in Luffy's room.
So, here he was, at the Baratie where Law had agreed for their first, and hopefully not last, date. Luffy wore a white shirt under his sunflower button-up, which Ace recommended he leave unbuttoned. He even wore his nicest pants - then ones with no rips - and forewent the sandals in favor of his expensive sneakers that he rarely used outside of special occasions.
But well, this was a special occasion, wasn't it?
Still, he felt completely underdressed the moment Law walked into the restaurant.
Luffy felt his jaw drop. The doors opened and Law walked in, and it was as if everyone around them disappeared. There was only Law, looking around the place like some otherworldly being, a vision of beauty and loveliness that Luffy's never even thought about before with anyone else.
Objectively, Luffy could tell when people were attractive. Nami and Vivi and Robin were all beautiful. His mentor and fire captain, Shanks, was ruggedly handsome. Zoro and Sanji were really hot, and even Koby, a rookie cop they often met during calls, was very cute. It doesn't mean Luffy feels anything for them aside from completely platonic or familial love.
This was different , like he told Nami. Law was different . He intrigued Luffy from the moment they met, hooking him in with his downright gorgeous face and reeling him in with his dry and witty personality. Law was miles out of his league, way into the stratosphere, that Luffy still wondered why this gorgeous, smart, and amazing doctor deigned to go on a date with a lowly young firefighter like him.
But, who was he to complain?
Luffy's eyes roved over Law's outfit. Law wore a pink dress shirt with the top few buttons undone, his chest tattoo - chest tattoo!!! Luffy's mind screeched - proudly on display. The shirt was tucked into a fucking corset and down to sinfully tight pants, really drawing Luffy's eyes to Law's narrow waist. The look was completed with a charcoal gray blazer and boots that added maybe three more inches to his height.
Luffy also nearly passed out when he realized Law was wearing a choker, a golden thing secured around his neck with a latch. Law looked good in gold, he realized. Like, really good .
If Luffy could somehow gather all the gold in the world, he'd do so with the sole purpose of adorning this man head to toe in it.
It was a little thrilling to realize just how far gone Luffy already is.
Law then spotted him and made his way over, a ridiculously sexy smirk on his face, and Luffy had to take a few deep breaths to compose himself.
"Hi," Luffy breathed out as he stood up to greet Law. "You look…wow."
"Have I already rendered you speechless? That's gotta be a world record somehow," Law replied as he took a seat. "To be honest, I feel completely overdressed," he added, glancing at Luffy's clothes.
"No! You look really good," Luffy exclaimed. "If anything, I think I've underdressed."
Law eyed him for a moment, and Luffy tried not to squirm at the attention.
"No, I think you are dressed just right. I like the sunflowers," Law said, a small smile on his face, and Luffy tried not to preen like a peacock. He couldn't help the wide smile on his face at the compliment, though.
"Hey, Luffy," came Sanji's voice next to them, and Luffy looked up to see him standing there in his chef's jacket, a smile on his face.
"Sanji! You're our waiter tonight?" Luffy asked, confused, because Sanji notoriously hated being removed from the line and forced to wait tables.
"Just for you, and just for tonight. When you told me you were bringing a date here, well, how could I resist?" Sanji replied. He turned to Luffy's date. "I'm Sanji. And you must be Law. He won't shut up about you, y'know?" He added at Law's stunned silence.
Luffy grinned sheepishly. "I did say I was chatty."
Law huffed at that, a soft laugh escaping his lips as he did. "Luffy's also talked about you all a lot. I think I know who everybody is now without even meeting them yet."
"That's Luffy for you," Sanji replied fondly. "Once he decides he likes you, good fucking luck trying to get away. He'll pester you until you're roped into whatever harebrained scheme he's thought up."
Law glanced at him, to which Luffy replied with a winning smile. Law's lips stretch into a soft smile of his own. "Somehow, that doesn't surprise me one bit."
Luffy felt his heart do a somersault with that.
"Anyways, as this is a special occasion, I'll be cooking for you, off the menu, as a surprise. Any allergies I should be aware of?" Sanji asked.
"Oh!" Luffy piped up. "Traffy doesn't like bread!"
"I'm gluten-intolerant," Law said, adding some context.
"Gotcha. I'll be extra careful then," Sanji promised sincerely. "I'll be back. In the meantime, you could order from the drinks menu. Someone should be with you shortly."
"Thank you. I'll just have water. I'm on-call," Law replied, nodding appreciatively at Sanji before turning back to Luffy.
As Sanji made his way back to the kitchen, Luffy reached over to hold Law's hand.
"So, how've you been?" Law then asked, upturning his hand so that their palms touched, which caused lightning to go up and down Luffy's spine.
The nerves he felt at the start have almost completely dissipated by now when Law engaged him in conversation about anything and everything. At first, he wondered what more they could talk about since they've texted quite a bit (read: a lot) since their first meeting at the bar, and Luffy's gotten to know Law a bit better as a result. He realized quickly enough that he didn't need to worry too much, that he could talk to Law about anything , and to his surprise, Law would listen.
It was a breath of fresh air. Normally, not many people could endure the onslaught of word vomit Luffy was sometimes prone to do. They didn't think Luffy would notice them checking out of the conversation, but he did. Usually, they'd get their phones out, turn away from him, and their responses could drastically decrease to one-word answers.
Law was different. Not only did Law listen, he was actively paying attention. When Luffy started going off on a tangent completely unrelated to his original point, Law brought the topic back up to get him back on his train of thought, even if he did do so with a bit of grumbling especially when it became a bit difficult to follow along. He asked questions when Luffy said something too quickly, and not once did he check his phone, even when Luffy knew he was technically on-call tonight.
"They'll call if they need me," Law explained when Luffy asked. "I told them to call me only if a patient is actively dying, on their way to dying, or they made a mistake that could make the patient start dying. I refuse any other interruptions tonight."
Luffy might have fallen a bit more in love after that.
Their food arrived eventually, starting with a mountain of appetizers. Luffy laughed at the incredulous look on Law's face when he saw the large seafood platter set before them, and he laughed even harder when Sanji set down another platter - a smaller, more manageable one, a single person serving - in front of Law, and his eyes nearly bugged out.
"We're not sharing the large platter?" Law asked, and well, Luffy couldn't blame him for his disbelief. The large seafood appetizer platter was obviously meant for at least four people to share.
"You'll quickly learn that Luffy likes to eat," Sanji said by way of explanation. "And that's putting it mildly."
And learn, Law did. Luffy, for his part, had already demolished half of his large platter, where Law barely touched his. His eyebrows started getting higher and higher with every bite Luffy took, awe and slightly disgusted bewilderment reflected on his gorgeous face.
"Where are you fitting all of that?" Law asked him eventually.
"My appetizer stomach. I also have a main course stomach, a snack stomach, and a dessert stomach," Luffy joked in response.
Law huffed, a soft laugh released on his exhale, and shook his head. "Well, either my anatomy textbooks were completely wrong, or you somehow have four stomachs like a cow."
"Wait, cows have four stomachs?"
That led them down a rabbit hole of animal and human anatomy, and their conversation continued from there as Law ate his appetizers at a more sedate pace. Luffy's platter has long been completely demolished, but he was content to just watch Law eat. He didn't even pilfer food from his plate as he was wont to do with his friends.
Dinner continued, and Luffy felt proud of himself for every laugh and smile he pulled from Law. The man may look like he walked straight out of one of those fashion magazines that Nami liked to read, but he was absolutely adorable too once he let himself have fun.
Eventually, the night started to wind down, and someone called Law telling him he needed to come in to work as soon as possible.
Luffy offered to drive him to the hospital, and Law agreed. During the drive from the Baratie to Grand Line General, Law had removed his corset and choker and put them into his bag, and exchanged his dress shoes with sneakers. He buttoned up his shirt the rest of the way, and Luffy only mourned the loss of seeing his chest tattoo for a moment.
"Thank you," Law murmured as soon as they were parked out of the hospital. "This…was fun."
Luffy smiled. "Does that mean a second date?"
Law glanced at him, and hesitation clouded his features for a moment (and no, Luffy did not panic one bit), but then a smirk took over. Before Luffy knew it, Law's hand curled into his shirt and he found himself being pulled across the console, Law's lips meeting his own in a fervent first (and hopefully not last) kiss.
Luffy's eyes shut, and Law angled their heads to deepen the kiss. It was exhilarating, and Luffy could feel every part of him come alive.
"That was a yes to a second date," Law murmured as he pulled away. "And a yes to a third," kiss. "fourth," kiss. "...and many more."
Luffy grinned, dazed, and Law pressed one last kiss to his lips before he grabbed his bag.
"I'll see you when I get out, Luffy- ya. Drive safely," Law said as he opened the door and hopped out.
And if Law or anyone saw him fistpump in his car, well, that was nobody's business but his alone.
Being in a relationship, Luffy realized, won't always be smooth sailing.
As infatuated as they were with each other, reality came with a swift kick to the head, and Luffy came to realize that they needed to work on their relationship together .
This was also Luffy's first romantic relationship. He always thought it was something he never wanted or needed in his life, that his friends and family were more than enough to fill in the void of companionship, and Luffy easily made friends so it wasn't like he was hurting for company.
Law, on the other hand - and Luffy was quick to realize this - had issues with communication and commitment. He would shut down and push anyone away rather than tell them what was going on, and he struggled immensely with letting himself become affectionate for fear of losing more people he lo -liked .
Eventually, and though it took a while, they found their footing. Law, who was so used to hiding away behind a mask when life became too overwhelming, learned how to drop it eventually with gentle coaxing from Luffy.
And Luffy, who often accidentally disregarded boundaries, learned to respect them especially when it came to Law and his need for some space.
It wasn't perfect, but Luffy didn't want or need perfection . He just wanted Law.
Law also wanted him.
They'd make it work.
Another matter was having their two worlds collide. Law had a select group of people he called friends, where Luffy befriended anyone. Their friend groups eventually merged together, with Luffy meeting most of Law's friends, and Law meeting his crew. Luffy couldn't help but smile at them mingling together, talking like they were old friends even if they had only just met.
Only Luffy's brothers have yet to meet Law, so Luffy decided that he'd introduce him to them soon.
And so, their first outing together had been with their friends and his brothers, and it took two months before plans could come to fruition.
Thankfully, he and Law's rest days finally lined up, and everyone else worked around their schedule. It was only a day trip, as not everyone could go overnight, and Jinbei offered to lend and operate his large yacht for them to party on, which Luffy eagerly accepted.
So now, Luffy was helping Jinbei out on the boat. He, Ace, and Sabo were the first ones to arrive, with Ace falling asleep almost immediately once they were on board. It was four in the morning, after all, so Luffy let him be for now and he and Sabo continued to help Jinbei with pre-sailing checks.
Sanji and Zoro came a little later, with Zoro still yawning, having just come off a 12-hour shift. Sanji pulled an insulated bag behind him, no doubt stuffed with trays of delicious food, and Luffy could already feel his mouth water.
The rest of them started popping up. Ikkaku with Uni and Clione arrived shortly thereafter, then Robin and Franky and Chopper who gave Nami, Vivi, Usopp, and Kaya a lift to the docks. Hakugan came a bit later, just as the sun was starting to rise, as did Brook, who carried his guitar case and a keyboard under his arm.
Eventually, they were almost ready to leave, and Luffy worried a bit about his boyfriend who hasn't shown up yet, but his worries were soon soothed when he heard Law's voice from the deck.
"Sorry we're almost late," Law was saying as Luffy hastily tied up the sails. "Penguin overslept, and he slept like the goddamn dead."
"Torao!" Luffy yelled, turning Law's attention to him. Behind Law stood Bepo, an ever jolly smile on his face, and Shachi, who had Penguin leaning against him, looking like he had just risen from the dead. Luffy jumped on deck, ready to hug and pull his boyfriend into a kiss, when he stopped short at the sight.
Ever since they got together, Luffy's always found Law attractive no matter what he wore. He loved it when his fashionista boyfriend dressed up (though Law always vehemently denied being a fashionista), and he also loved it when Law simply trudged through his apartment in boxers and a threadbare shirt, dark circles under his eyes from lack of sleep, but still looking incredibly beautiful in Luffy's completely unbiased opinion.
Still, Law liked to dress up (the large walk-in closet in his apartment wasn't just for show) and he really picked moments to do so when he knew Luffy would lose his mind.
Like now.
Law was wearing a tank top, the cloth stretched over his broad chest. It was a white tank top too that was almost see-through enough that the black ink of Law's tattoos were peeking through. Luffy's eyes trailed down lower, to see his boyfriend's legs clad in loose, flowy white pants, held by a sash instead of a belt, the fabric almost translucent. Luffy could trace the long lines of Law's legs with just his eyes all the way down to his feet that were clad in sandals. He wore his spotted bucket hat and dark aviators, looking every bit like the model he was.
Law smirked at him. "Luffy-ya, you're staring."
Luffy clamped his jaw shut as he felt a blush on his face.
"Can you blame me?" Luffy then asked as he tried to gain his sense of sanity back. Law really knew how to drive him crazy.
"I don't blame you at all," Law purred as he approached before greeting Luffy with a kiss that nearly brought him to his knees in front of all of their friends.
"Hey, Luff, bring him to us!" Ace yelled suddenly, causing Luffy to break the kiss and glare at his brother who simply laughed.
Sabo chimed in. "Come on, you idiot! You've talked our ears off about him enough. It's time we meet him!"
Law was chuckling. "Come on then, your brothers await."
"They're just going to grill you, y'know?"
"I wouldn't expect them to do any less," came Law's confident reply.
Ace and Sabo were quick to grill Law, trying to look menacing as they did, but Luffy could see the teasing looks they exchanged. Though, Luffy didn't realize just how much his brothers' approval of his boyfriend meant to him until they received it. The nod of approval from Ace and the thumbs up from Sabo made his heart bloom with warmth.
Of course they were going to approve. How could they not? Law was an incredible man, who Luffy quickly fell in love with, who had a mean streak a mile wide but was soft and kind hearted to people who matter to him. He was an accomplished doctor in his field, and he was hot as sin to boot.
But what sealed the deal was Law's assurances to his brothers. Even Luffy was stunned at how Law calmly, yet staunchly, defended their relationship, how passionate he was about taking care of Luffy, and of promising to patch him up always if he got into trouble or had a building or two fall on him.
The conversation continued from there, with them exchanging stories of shenanigans at work that they each found hilarious. Luffy sighed as Law's fingers gently played with Luffy's hair as he leaned against him, letting the smell of seawater and ocean breeze, and Law's cologne too, infiltrate his nose as he inhaled deeply. Law turned to press his lips against Luffy's temple, a kiss as sweet as sugar that made warmth bloom in his chest. Sabo and Ace gagged at their PDA, but the grins on their faces told Luffy how they really felt.
Later, Jinbei anchored the boat at a bay, allowing everyone to swim, chill at the beach, or do a bit of snorkeling. Law and Luffy opted to stay on the boat, where everyone else decided to go down to the beach and enjoy the crystal blue waters of the bay.
Luffy found Law by the stern of the yacht, looking downright angelic in his all white outfit, like a personal vision from the heavens all for Luffy. He had taken off his bucket hat - had allowed Chopper to keep it for the meantime - and the sunlight hit his hair just right, giving off the appearance of a halo.
But well, as angelic as Law looked in Luffy's eyes, Luffy knew his boyfriend could be downright devilish if he wanted to be.
And oh, did Luffy want him to be.
"You want to join me in the cabin?" Luffy asked as he wrapped his arms around Law's waist. His fingers dipped teasingly at the front of Law's trousers, and he grinned at the sharp inhale from his boyfriend. He tried to put his chin up on Law's shoulder, but Law was more than a head taller than he was, so Luffy settled for smushing his face against his shoulder blade.
Law's hands moved to grab at Luffy's arms, pulling them up and tightening his hold around him. They swayed gently, though that could be attributed to the boat rocking in the gentle waves, as Law hummed like he was deep in thought.
"And what, pray tell, will we do in the cabin?"
"Play twister, what the fuck do you think?" Luffy sarcastically asked.
Law chuckled at that, and Luffy turned his head just to hear the sound echo in Law's chest.
"Do you have any idea how much you drive me crazy?" Luffy then asked, turning Law around in his arms so they could face each other. "How insane you make me?"
Law smirked. "I may have an inkling. That's why I wore these trousers in the first place."
Luffy gasped.
"I love looking good for you," Law then said, his voice taking on a sultry tone, and making Luffy weak. "I like it when your eyes are on me all the time. I like it when you're so easily distracted by everything else, but when I walk into a room, you can't look away. I like it when you stare at me across the room, or when you watch me when we're in bed."
At that, Law leaned in to capture his lips in a kiss. Luffy moaned, kissing back just as eagerly, his fingers now playing with the sash that kept Law's trousers on.
They eventually found their way inside, away from any eyes, and Luffy took his sweet time with worshiping every inch of Law's body. Law squirmed and gasped as Luffy traced his tongue on every visible patch of skin, as he nosed around his tattoos, and as he fingered Law open while sucking his cock down to the root.
Luffy then fucked him hard and fast in the cabin, with the white fabric of Law's trousers pooling at Law's feet, hanging off his ankles, as he did his best to meet Luffy's punishing thrusts. Luffy was glad his boyfriend had enough foresight to bring a pack of condoms with him and lube, otherwise their spontaneous coupling would definitely leave stains in the cabin, stains that neither of them wanted to explain to Jinbei.
"Fuck, Luffy… harder, please, " Law moaned, and Luffy heeded his pleas, giving himself over to Law as he did so, heart and mind and body and soul.
Law then begged to switch places, to ride Luffy, and Luffy happily rolled onto his back to watch Law lower himself down on his cock again.
"So beautiful, my Torao," Luffy whispered reverently as he did, hands on Law's waist, looking up at the absolute divinity, the breathtaking vision of loveliness Law made on his lap as he rode Luffy to completion.
"So beautiful," Luffy whispered again, holding Law close to him as the sweat cooled on their bodies. "Beautiful and smart and talented, mine ."
"Yours, Luffy. No one else's, but yours," Law murmured in response, and Luffy could feel something knock loose in his chest and simultaneously click into place.
So this is what love looks like.
When Luffy heard the address of the fire coming from the radio, the entire truck fell dead silent, and his heart pounded loudly in his chest.
Shanks was still talking to the operator, gathering details, but Luffy couldn't hear anything beyond fire, an explosion, and possible casualties, and stampede at Grand Line General.
He sneakily got his phone out. He tried calling. The echo of the busy tone echoed ominously in the otherwise quiet truck.
He tried again.
"Hi, this is Dr. Trafalgar Law. I am unavailable to take your call, so please leave your name and number, and I'll get back to you soon."
He tried again.
" Hi, this is Dr. Trafalgar Law. I am unavailable to take your call-"
Luffy hung up. He tried again.
"Hi, this is Dr. Traf-"
Luffy shut his phone. He tried to regulate his breathing. He can't lose his shit, not now.
"Hey," a gruff voice said, pulling Luffy out of his thoughts. He turned to Zoro who was looking at him. "He'll be okay."
"You don't know that," Luffy said in return.
"He's tough," Ace piped up beside him. "Zoro's right. He'll be okay."
But, no matter how many times they said it, Luffy's fears weren't going to be assuaged until he saw Law with his own two eyes, whole and undamaged and alive.
The scene was total chaos when they arrived, with people spilling out of the hospital as a five alarm fire that had been the result of a gas leak and subsequent explosion in the west wing raged and oh fuck, wasn't Law's office there?
He could be at surgery, though, in the operating room on the other end of the hospital, so Luffy tried not to worry himself too much when there was so much he didn't know.
He spotted Bepo and Shachi by an ambulance, both with oxygen masks strapped on, and for a moment, Luffy had hope. He had hope that it wasn't just them two, that Penguin and Law were with them, so Luffy jogged over.
He was quick to realize it was just Bepo and Shachi, and his heart dropped.
"Hey! I'm glad you guys are alright," he told them. "Penguin and Torao, were they with you?"
Bepo shook his head and Shachi said, in a raspy voice due to smoke inhalation, said, "No. We haven't seen them. The stampede forced us out, and they wouldn't let us back in."
Luffy nodded, trying his best not to panic, and he nodded. "We'll get them out. I promise."
He knows he shouldn't be making those promises, that their work was as unpredictable as they come, but hell hath no fury like a Monkey D. Luffy with a promise.
Shanks was now barking out orders after speaking to the IC, and Luffy did his best to pay attention.
"Rou, Yassop, Beckmann, grab the hoses and help the others get that fire under control." The two men nodded and swiftly got the gear. "Roronoa, I need you to head to Newgate and help triage patients." Zoro nodded and headed over to his fellow paramedics.
Shanks then turned to Ace and Luffy. "Sweep the hospital for anyone left behind. Be careful, and when I tell you to get out, get out. Got it?"
The last sentence was clearly directed at Luffy.
"Firefighter Monkey, tell me now if you can do this, or if you think you need to be benched for this," Shanks said, the firmness in his voice undercut with the concern Luffy could hear. Of course he would ask that. He could still remember Shanks' screams through the radio as he charged into a building well on its way to crumbling on them just to save Ace who had gotten trapped under rubble. Shanks was already his captain when Zoro had gotten the injury to his eye that permanently blinded his left eye, which left him confused and dazed, unable to tell left from right, and Luffy did not think twice before charging towards him and carrying him out of the house even with a twisted ankle.
Both incidents put him out of commission, and required him to undergo recertification. He had gotten the dressing down of his career on both occasions. Shanks had a right to be concerned, now more than ever, as it was Luffy's very heart and soul on the line.
"I can do this," Luffy answered firmly. Law will be fine, he told himself. Law can take care of himself. He didn't need Luffy to save him. Luffy can do his job.
He and Ace entered the hospital in their bunker gear.
They called out to Shanks as they did their sweep. The smoke from the west wing burning permeated the air, and Luffy kept his mind focused on looking for anyone left behind. The first and second floors were clear, thank goodness, but that did not quell the knot of worry in Luffy's chest.
As they got further into the hospital, Luffy's blood ran cold when he saw Penguin sitting on the floor, breathing shallow, looking like he hit his head on something considering the blood dripping from his head.
"H-hey, Penguin!" Luffy yelled, and Penguin turned to look at him. "Hey, I'm here. You're gonna be okay."
"What happened?" Penguin rasped out. "I got knocked out, I think."
"An explosion in the west wing," Luffy explained as he helped Penguin to his feet. Penguin nodded in understanding. "Have you seen Torao?"
"He's not out there yet?" Penguin asked.
Luffy shook his head, and he tried not to let the fear grip his chest. "I haven't seen him."
It was then that Penguin shot him a horrified look. "He…he had clinic today. At his office."
Luffy did not hear anything else beyond that. The moment he handed Penguin over to the paramedics, he quickly hustled back into the hospital. He ignored Shanks yelling into their comms, and he could sense Ace at his heels as he tried to chase him, but nothing was stopping him.
The others have been able to get the fire under control, but there was already considerable structural damage, and the heat was still blazing by the time Luffy got to the bridge leading to the west wing. He took a step forward but before he could run all the way, he found himself being scooped up and carted away from the west wing.
"Ace! Stop!" Luffy yelled as he slammed his fists against his brother's back. "Let me go, now!"
"That wing is about to fall, Luffy!" Ace yelled back at him. "I'm not gonna let you get crushed beneath it."
"I said let me go, Ace!" Luffy yelled, twisting desperately, but Ace had an iron grip around him. "Let me go! I have to save him! Let me go! I hate you! I hate you!"
"Hate me all you want, Luffy! I'm not about to let you die," Ace firmly said, and before Luffy knew it, they burst outside the hospital doors.
Ace set him down by the truck, and once he let go, Luffy took that split second to try and charge back to the hospital but several arms pulled him back, forcing him to the ground as he watched helplessly.
It all happened so fast.
There was a crackle, a snap, an ominous creak. The bridge came down first, and then all at once, the west wing of Grand Line General crumbled beneath the flames.
Luffy could hear a loud scream, almost sounding muffled in his ears, but as he ripped his head gear off, he belatedly realized it was coming from him.
Ace still held him down, but Luffy couldn't care less. An eerie silence had fallen amongst the crowd and teams of first responders, with Luffy's loud cries the only sounds permeating the quiet.
He finally managed to get out of Ace's grip, and he tried to run to the debris. He doesn't care if it'll take him hours, maybe even days, but Luffy is not going to stop until he's dug through the rubble with his bare hands, until he found Law. Whether he was dead or alive was another matter for future him, but he just needed to find Law, his heart , his soul.
"Luffy!" He heard Zoro yell, but he didn't look back.
"Firefighter Monkey, get your ass back here!" Shanks was then yelling. Luffy ignored him too.
"Luffy, wait, don't be an idiot! Look here!" Ace caught up to him and grabbed his arm. Luffy tried to wrench his wrist from Ace's hold, but his brother was still stronger than he was.
"Ace, let me the fuck go!"
In response, Ace pulled and turned him around so that he was facing the hospital's main entrance. He blinked his eyes in disbelief against the dust swirling around them, but there was no mistaking the figure stood on top of the steps, with a child cradled in his arms.
He might be covered in soot, but Luffy would recognize him anywhere.
Zoro immediately mobilized while Luffy still stood there, mouth agape like an idiot. Law handed the child to the paramedics and the mother in hysterics who was thanking him profusely. Then, Law stupidly tried to wave away any offer to check in on him, which finally got Luffy's ass into gear.
He didn't realize he was moving until he skidded into a stop in front of Law, who was hacking out a cough like he had inhaled a lot of smoke, which probably was the case. Luffy knew Law needed to be looked over, but he was still too relieved to think about anything else but hugging his boyfriend.
"Luffy," Law croaked, but his arms wound around Luffy's neck as he drew him close.
"You asshole!" Luffy yelled into his chest, relief flooding through his veins at Law's heartbeat. It was fast, but he was alive , and that was all that mattered because for a horrifying minute, he lost Law. His heart, his soul.
He eventually relinquished Law to Zoro and Marco's care who immediately strapped an oxygen mask to his face. Still, Luffy remained by his side as they sat at the back of one of the many available ambulances.
After much back and forth, of Law convincing everyone he was fine and didn't need urgent care, and of Zoro hearing none of it, they loaded Law into the ambulance.
Luffy hesitated, wanting to go with him. He was in good hands, and Luffy could swing by when their work was done, but then Shanks put a hand on his shoulder.
"Go with him," his fire captain said. "We can take care of it from here."
Well, he didn't need to be told twice. Luffy didn't even bother shedding his bunker gear, squeezing into whatever space he can find in the ambulance and letting Zoro work to keep Law stable at the very least.
Other than some second degree burns and smoke inhalation, Law was relatively okay according to the doctors who tended to him immediately when they arrived at the other hospital. Still, they kept Law overnight, something that irritated the surgeon greatly. He was the best doctor Luffy knew, but somehow the worst patient at the same time.
Luffy offered to pick up some clothes from their apartment, and Law gratefully accepted.
They still had to talk. Luffy knew he had no leg to stand on, considering he had been about ready to charge into an unstable structure and potentially burn alive if it meant the chance to save Law, but the fear that enveloped him in that one terrifying second when he thought he'd lost everything? He never wanted to feel it again if he had a choice.
He stopped by the fire station first, shedded his bunker gear, and grabbed a fresh change of clothes from his locker. The rest of the team wasn't back yet, so Luffy quickly showered and made his way to Law's apartment in record time.
He didn't even care which clothes he was grabbing from Law's closet. His hands tugged at what he knew were sweatpants and what felt like a hoodie, plus a pair of boxers, and Luffy quickly locked up and headed back to the hospital. Law was already sound asleep by the time he got back, and Luffy placed the bag of clothes onto the floor and sat down on the chair next to Law's bed. He threaded their fingers together, and Luffy pressed on Law's pulse, allowing the now steady beat to calm his own jackrabbiting heart.
Law was in the hospital for two days, and after a quick check up, Law was deemed perfectly fine to go home. Luffy quickly handed him his clothes and left him with some modicum of privacy by getting Law some coffee.
When he came back to the room, he nearly dropped the cup.
"You didn't realize you took the crop top, did you?" were the first words Law spoke, his voice still scratchy, but amused nonetheless.
Law, despite nearly dying the night before, looked incredibly soft in the morning light in his rainbow cropped hoodie which only barely covered his chest, and his gray sweatpants. Due to the cropped hoodie, Luffy could see the bandages wrapped around Law's burns on his torso, but they didn't detract in any way from the exquisite vision he made. They served to remind Luffy of how his boyfriend lived, survived, and came back to him whole.
Luffy's heart, his soul, is still with him. He had dark bags under his eyes, was dressed in a ridiculous cropped hoodie and sweatpants, and yet he was the image of soft and warm , which was ironic considering others normally associated words like rude and cold when referring to Trafalgar Law.
Luffy wasn't like the others though.
He didn't realize he had started crying until Law was immediately in his space and wiping the tears from his cheeks.
"I thought I lost you," Luffy murmured against Law's chest as he pulled him into a hug. "When I didn't see you with Bepo or Shachi or Penguin…"
"I'm sorry I made you worry," Law remarked softly as he wrapped his arms around Luffy. "A little girl had gotten separated from her parents in the chaos. They begged me to find her. I couldn't refuse…not…not again."
And Luffy knew exactly what Law was talking about. Law didn't really talk much about his past, his family, but he did mention to Luffy once that he had a sister. Lami .
Lami, who had died in a fire. Lami, who died alone. Law, who promised to protect her but couldn't as he was just a child himself.
"I understand why you did it," Luffy said after a few beats. "I'd be a giant hypocrite if I didn't."
"I'm still so sorry I scared you, my love, my heart, " Law said, pressing a soft kiss against Luffy's forehead.
Luffy wrapped his arms tighter around Law's bare waist, holding him as if he was about to disappear at any given moment.
"Don't ever do that to me again," Luffy said, looking up into Law's eyes. "Please always come back to me."
"As long as you do me the courtesy of always returning to me."
With their unpredictable life, they couldn't really make those promises, but Luffy would fight death with his own bloodied hands if it meant one more day of seeing Law again.
And with the way Law pulled him into a kiss, one that spoke of a promise both were afraid to fully verbalize, Luffy knew he'd do the same.
"Wow. And I didn't even need to threaten you this time," Nami remarked as Luffy stepped out from behind the divider.
"Well, Torao actually did threaten me," Luffy admitted sheepishly. "And right now, I'm more scared of him ."
"I'd be surprised if you weren't. It's your wedding after all," Usopp chimed in from where he was adjusting his necktie. "Plus, your man still gives me the creeps."
"Bah, he's a sweetheart," Luffy told them, a grin on his face.
"Yeah, to you ." Usopp shuddered. "To the rest of us? He still scares the crap out of me."
"Well then, all the more for me. I don't share, after all," Luffy joked back, before he turned to stare at himself in the mirror.
Law had offered to pay for their suits, and it seemed his soon-to-be-husband had spared no expense. Nami's eyes even grew wide once she saw the label of the designer, and it must have cost Law a small fortune to make even Nami react like that. The exact amount was unknown to Luffy, but he was fine with that. He didn't need to know. Like how Law was fine with Luffy spending however much he wanted for the reception, especially the food.
Chef Zeff and Sanji had stared at him like he had grown a second head when they saw the number of zeros on the check Luffy handed them when they figured out the menu, and Luffy simply laughed and told them to go wild.
They spent the most on suits, accommodations, and the food at the reception. They were considerably frugal with everything else as they invited only closest friends and family, and had decided on an outdoor wedding on a cliff overlooking the sea.
Finally, after half a year of planning, their big day was finally here.
Luffy was wearing a dark, wine-red, three-piece suit, with black lapels on the jacket and a black vest. The suit jacket was beautifully embroidered with a very intricate design of sunflowers, and Law had even gone and gotten him cufflinks in the shape of sunflowers too. The white of his dress shirt popped out, and it matched perfectly with the white shoes Law had picked out for him. Nami had managed to get his curls styled, and she was just doing the finishing touches when the door opened and in came Ikkaku with Shachi.
"Oh wow," were the first words out of Ikkaku's mouth when she spotted him. "The captain's going to lose his mind when he sees you."
"You think so?" Luffy asked excitedly. "Why are you here by the way?"
"Oh I see, we aren't wanted," Shachi snorted. "And after we made the arduous trek to get the captain's letter to Luffy…"
Luffy was immediately in front of them, making grabby hands. "Gimme, gimme, gimme!"
Ikkaku laughed. "Do we give him the letter, Shachi?"
"I don't know, Ikkaku. After the disrespect we were dealt with?" Shachi said, pretending to think. Luffy pouted at them.
"Okay, okay, put those eyes away," Ikkaku said with a grin as she handed out the envelope to Luffy. He immediately takes it into his hands and rips open the envelope.
"We'll leave you to it for a moment, Luffy," Nami said as she practically dragged everyone out of the room. "I also have to find Zoro and tackle his hair before he stands as your best man."
"Good luck!" Luffy calls out to them before turning back to his empty room and opening the letter.
My heart and soul,
Today's the day. I feel like it was just yesterday you walked up to me in that bar and chatted me up. Can you believe two years have gone by so fast?
I can't wait to see you. I love you.
P.S. Can't wait to see how that suit looks on you.
Luffy grinned. He was so excited! He didn't have a letter ready for Law, but he knew his fiancé wasn't expecting anything in return. Still, Luffy wanted to reciprocate, so he grabbed a sheet from the hotel's provided pad and started writing with the provided pen.
He managed to snag Usopp as he was passing by and essentially demanded he pass along the message. Usopp refused, citing his "I can't look at Law without dying of fright" disease, that is until Kaya walked up and snatched the letter from him, promising that she and Usopp will take Luffy's letter to Law who was on the other side of the property they were renting for the next two nights. Usopp didn't complain much after that.
Eventually, Nami came back with Zoro and tackled his hair amidst his protests. Sanji also swung by to inform Luffy they were all ready for the reception and also to make fun of his own fiancé while he sat in a chair, his hair being molded by Nami's talented hands. Zoro had grumbled at the teasing, but the tilt of his smile gave way to the fondness he was feeling for the blond chef.
Others visited briefly to say hello, and Luffy saw all of his friends dressed to the nines before the ceremony, and soon enough, as Luffy began to vibrate out of his skin, it was time.
Both he and Law immediately dismissed the tradition of having one wait at the front while the other walked down the aisle seeing as neither of them were brides. The plan was for their entourage to all go first, and they'll take up the rear, meet in the middle, and go down the aisle together.
Luffy had not seen Law at all since last night. He'd be seeing Law for the first time in 24 hours at the start of the aisle. He had no idea what Law's suit looked like, with Law claiming it to be a surprise, and he had no idea how he was styled today. Luffy really didn't care - Law could wear a potato sack, and he'd still marry Law no matter what - but he couldn't help the excitement he felt to see his beloved again.
He watched as Ikkaku and Nami walked down side by side, and they were the last before Luffy and Law took center stage. Luffy took a deep breath, looked up and almost choked on an exhale.
"Have I rendered you speechless already?" Law teased, a familiar callback to their very first date. "This must be a new record."
Indeed, words failed Luffy once again as his brain tried to comprehend the sight before him. Law was adorned in gold. The black suit he had chosen for himself had gold lapels, and like Luffy's suit jacket, had been embroidered with intricate gold designs that looked like… hearts.
The suit was styled with a vest and a white dress shirt, similar to Luffy's, and Law's cufflinks were also golden in the shape of hearts. Neither of them wore a tie or bowtie, both opting to leave the top buttons undone, and Luffy is insanely happy they decided on this idea as he could stare at Law's tattoos all day if he was allowed.
Luffy's eyes continued to rove over the breathtaking image Law made. His hair was artfully styled in waves, and his sideburns and goatee had been trimmed for the occasion. His golden eyes shone like the finest treasure, with all four of his earrings glinting in the afternoon sun.
Luffy had been completely unaware that instead of walking down the aisle with his soon-to-be-husband, he had instead been moving closer to Law.
"God, you're beautiful," he said, awe and wonder in his voice, and Law blushed at the compliment. Luffy continued because this man deserved to know. "So pretty, and so beautiful. Golden, like a pretty sunset, my Torao. "
"You don't look too shabby either," Law remarked, tone soft, as his hands made their home on Luffy's waist. "You are gorgeous, my love. I wish I could stare at you all day, and kiss you until our lips are sore."
Luffy grinned. "Well, not gonna say no to that," and before either of them knew it, they were leaning in.
Thankfully, someone - Penguin - chose that moment to intervene. "Hey! Hold off on the kissing. Y'all aren't even married yet!"
A loud laugh rippled through the audience as Law and Luffy immediately pulled away from each other.
"Sorry," Luffy said, though he didn't feel very sorry at all. He turned to Law, his heart and soul, and held out his hand. "Let's get married."
Law took his hand and threaded their fingers together, and they walked down the aisle to where Shanks stood with a smile ready to officiate their marriage. Their respective family stood at their sides, and Luffy could honestly say that this was going to be the best day ever.
It was the beginning of the rest of their lives.
(+1 Law's POV)
"Luffy, we're going to be late to our reservation. Let's go," Law called out to Luffy behind the closed door of the bedroom. "What are you still doing? You're taking longer than me."
"Sorry, Torao! Just," Luffy grunted. "Trying to figure this out."
"Well, figure it out faster or we won't be able to eat tonight. I'm not ordering room service either. It's practically highway robbery," Law huffed impatiently as he waited for his husband.
His husband . After two years, and a lot of ups and downs in between, he and Luffy are now finally married, and Law had to admit it's been absolutely blissful.
He thinks back to the time he first met Luffy. He had been intrigued, truth be told, when the then twenty-one year old boldly flirted with him and asked him out on a date in the same breath. Luffy then started complimenting his outfit, one that Law had spent fucking eons trying to figure out, so he had honestly been inwardly ecstatic that someone appreciated the effort.
And as they got closer over the months they were dating, Luffy never failed to compliment him. Law didn't even like making a considerable effort to dress up, truth be told, but when he saw Luffy's eyes shining brightly as he gawked at Law, it had motivated him to keep trying.
And even on days when Law didn't try, when he opted for a hoodie and jeans during date nights, or when he wore shorts and a simple t-shirt during the days they worked out together, Luffy always said he looked good, looked beautiful .
And even when Law finally cracked his chest open and revealed his fucked up childhood, the trauma that came with losing his family so young and his only father figure soon thereafter, and the pain and anguish it had caused him in the ensuing years, Luffy had simply accepted those parts of him. He had called him beautiful and strong in spite of the dark and ugly things about Law that he tried so hard to keep under wraps.
What was Law supposed to do, not fall in love?
Luffy was an inevitability since they first met. His gravitational pull rivaled that of the sun. He was bright and beautiful…he was all the precious things in the world.
Law was a selfish man. He knew for a fact that Luffy deserved better than him, someone who was not so emotionally stunted.
But, the truth was, Luffy chose him, and Law chose Luffy. At the end of the day, they chose to be together, both determined to make it work.
And now, they got there.
It's been a little over three days since they tied the knot, and they were having so much fun during their honeymoon. Law had booked a room at a luxurious resort and spa near the beach, and they were certainly taking advantage of all the amenities they had to offer after they finally emerged from the room after the first day, having spent the entire time going at each other like bunnies to even bother to leave except to eat.
But they've explored since then. It was their last day now, and Law was going to make his money's worth by enjoying a buffet for dinner.
If only they weren't on the verge of running late.
"Luffy!" He called out again.
"Done! Coming, coming!" Luffy responded.
The door opened and Luffy walked out, and Law didn't know what he was expecting, but it certainly wasn't this.
Law gaped at the sight of his husband. Luffy was wearing a bedazzled suit jacket with no shirt underneath , and he had strapped on a goddamned harness , leather straps criss crossing over the tanned skin of his chest, over the x-shaped scar. Law's eyes were drawn further down only to choke on air as he realized that Luffy was only wearing a pair of short shorts, the fabric a dark red. His eyes traveled further down, and Law inhaled sharply at the high heeled boots Luffy had chosen to wear.
Then, the little minx turned around coyly. "How do I look?"
Law then realized Luffy was wearing makeup, complete with a smokey eye, winged eyeliner, and a gloss on his lips. Oh , he was going to enjoy seeing those run down Luffy's cheeks later when he cried for release.
"You…" and goddamnit, the tables had turned. Law was the one speechless this time.
Luffy could tell, being the devil that he was, and he playfully shut Law's jaw with a push of his finger.
"I am going to enjoy ripping those clothes off you later and fucking you in that harness until you're begging," Law finally managed to say, a growl in his voice, one that made Luffy grin delightedly.
"Do we have to go to dinner?" Luffy asked teasingly, and if there was one thing that could get Luffy's mind off food, it had to be the prospect of sex. "I mean…why wait until later?"
Law took a deep breath, and exhaled. Two years later, and this man was still going to be the death of him.
"Dinner first. I want to get our money's worth from this resort, and we'll need all the energy we can get for what I have planned for you later."
Law said the last part with a low voice, whispered directly into Luffy's ear, who shuddered and let out a soft moan.
"Well then, what are we waiting for?" Luffy asked, pulling them out of their suite. Law barely had time to grab the keycard before they started making their way to the dining hall, laughing and pausing to pepper each other with kisses as they did.
Life sure was great .
