The Melancholia of henry emily

Work Text:

Henry's life had grown into nothingness. A repeating cycle of regrets that buried him deep. Everything had melted into dull blobs of nothingness. The light of his life, his star in a sea of darkness.

Charlotte Emily was dead.

The day of the funeral he stood in front of an audience of strangers. Strangers who haven't even turned an eye towards them any day else. Faking sympathy for his baby girl. Henry took a deep breath before starting his speech.

Had they expected something sweet to come from the mouth of a man with nothing but hatred?

Where were these same people when Henry was grieving on his lonesome?

When he spoke at the podium, his words were laced with venom as he threatened the murder. Described in vast detail what he’d do to them. The audience listened in horror and not long after Henry Emily was dragged away as another person who barely knew his daughter took his place.

Nights Without Charlotte were the toughest. He remembered tucking her into the bed and telling her “I love you’s” that he thought wouldn't have ended so soon.

He remembered making her various toys, both stuffed and animatronic, to keep her company at night or while he worked on a project.

Sometimes remembering hurt, it made him think of all the things he hadn't even done with her. Things She hadn't gotten to do herself.

He wished he could see her first year of school, see her graduate, see her get married if that's what she wanted. But now his sweet Charlie was deprived of all of this.

Henry wanted them dead, then himself.

How could he? He was in the back of the restaurant as his daughter screamed. Charlie had asked to sit back there with him that day. Why didn't he let her.

He deserved to die just as much as that monster.

Henry had withdrawn from the rest of his family, how could they move on so quickly. How could they just forget what they did to her?

His wife seemed not to even care. She moved on so quickly. Not even shedding a single tear at her funeral.

At least Sammy had an excuse; he was much too young to understand that his sister would never come home again. That she wouldn't be back to help him finish that puzzle they were working on that day.

Life had become miserable and that was his fault.

Sometimes he’d hurt himself on purpose, but then again he’d always don't that even when Charlotte was alive. An occasional burn of a soldering iron or a cut on a metal scrap that he was holding just to watch the blood drip down.

To remember that he was still human.

His passion soon felt empty after Charlotte's death. Sometimes when he was working with William in his garage, he’d end up just staring at the same part for hours if you let him before they were eventually snatched away from his business partner to finish by himself.

William had been so patient with him, but then again he always was. He’d always been the more likable of the two.

Henry used to be slightly jealous of William, brilliance and brains. But he had also assumed William felt the same way. Their relationship was like two ex lovers who didn't want the other to do better than them.

Due to that both of them would drag the other down whenever possible. The occasional “accidental” knock makes the others' work fall out of their hands.

William had visited Henry a couple of times. He always brought food, and Henry always pushed it away. No offense to him but eating had seemed like a chore, it always has but after Charlotte's death it’s like that feeling had been amplified by ten.

William had always insisted on staying the night, Henry had always said no. He could barely take care of himself so he wouldn't force the burden on the man who had bigger problems to deal with.

He’d been spending time with Willam more than William spends with his own wife. Wouldn't he rather be with his children? He still had those two boys.

It always felt funny when he reminded William to go home and spend time with his family when he himself had isolated himself from them. But then again they didn't really feel like his family.

Every Time he saw Sammy and her bonding it felt like he was intruding on someone else's life, and he had no right to be a part of it.

He had attempted to play with Sammy but it just made him miss Charlotte even more.

He missed playing tea party with her when her friends were busy, he missed seeing her smile at crows when they had been sitting on the porch.

He missed his charlotte.

Every time his mind began to wonder it always led him back to her, his daughter who was now resting in her coffin. He could've saved her, he could have not gone to work that day,he could've let her stay in the office.

he could've.

he should’ve

Drinking soothed the pain of it sometimes but other times it made it hurt worse. It was even worse when he lashed out at his wife. He watched her tear up when he did and it made his heart break. Not long after he had slapped her in front of Sammy, and she had left with her son.

Packed her bags and just left him here alone , how could she?

He’d been left alone with his own thoughts (which was never a good idea). Henry spent his days drinking, smoking, calling William to come over, then kicking him out again.

William is all he had left now and he didn't want to let him go, he’d buy William and his family expensive gifts from what he had left of his money.

Various favors for William that any man in his right mind wouldn't do, but then again he wasn't in his right mind.

He wanted William to stay and he’d find a way to make him. After months of doing this Henry had become attached to William like glue. Spending every second of his time with the man.

The Favors had grown more suggestive, and Henry was willing to comply.

He needed William.

Then William's youngest son died and William had pushed him away like it was his fault. The boy's skull had been crushed in the mouth of Fredbear and William's oldest had done it.

After that 5 children went missing inside the restaurant. Was he cursed? The place had shut down soon after that and he was devastated.

Henry’s lifelong dream was ruined .

The restaurant was one of the only stable things in his shipwreck of a life and now it was gone too. Had some cruel god decided to play a prank on him or something? (perhaps maybe a cruller one than the one the oldest had played)

William would be gone for months at a time but had the nerve to dump his son on Henry. Micheal was alright now that he had gotten to know him.

They were alike in a way, both wanting attention from William and preferring to keep to themselves.

Then after a while, William didn’t return at all.

Henry had put up missing persons posters for him but it was no use.

William Had left for good.

Or so he thought
