The Trans Awakening

Summary:

Wind finally gets the chance to come out, as they finally arrive back in Wars world—The last time Wind was there was during the war.
Although, from a well meaning comment by Linkle, all the Link’s look at Wars.

Notes:

IM SO SORRY FOR WRITING THIS????? It’s such a random and stupid idea I literally love it.
Also should probably just:
Wind is mtf (Male to Female)
Wars is ftm (Female to Male)
Since I adore the hc’s of Wind using she/her, although idk if it’s a common thing. Not sure!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Fairly enough, for once in their entire portal trips, the moment they stepped through; Somebody knew exactly where they were. In fact, three people knew the answer to that!

Time made recognition—But they’d just been in faer world—and they seemed a bit suprised?

Wind was the one who yelled out— “I know what world we’re in!!!” Shortly after they stepped through. But Legend swore to Hylia—Which they hated doing but it just fit—That this was no way in hell Wind’s world.

Hers smells of anytype of water, and you could practically always see the ocean around you! Yet, here they all were. With no sort of huge ocean nearby, and none of those uncomfortable nostalgic smells.

Looking through the group again, specifically at Four, and their most recent member—Wild. He studied to see if maybe it was theres, however it wasn’t.

They both seemed to have taken the portal terribly, and for some concerning reason, Wild took it worse than Four normally does.

That….Yeah no, they needed to get to a town or something to let those two rest, and night was coming- Hell, are they even near a town?!

Yet of course as Legend looked to Time, and noticed his ‘stupid ass grin,’ like, full on Legend knew smugness and pride when he saw it, and truly they wanted nothing more than to punch Wars right now.

Not to be an asshole— But come. On. He recognized the world instantly, why Time and Wind also did…. Well, time travel was a huge thing, they’d probably been here during his adventure, yet-

“Pretty boy! Mind leading us through your world, to preferably a town? Considering your protege and Four both took that portal awfully?”

Now that. Metaphorically punched him in the face, because that smile of his? Dropped right off.

Sky was picking up Four, who looked awfully nauseous, and Four never took nausea well, so they would basically be out of it for the whole night, and Time as well picked Wild up—Who concerned Wars, when fae looked at Wars and did something with his eyes or whatever. Basically letting Wars know that Wild is lightweight. But in a rather concerning sense—Wild quicker than Four, utterly was already wiped, and completely passed out.

Now that Wars seemed back into reality, and out of his proudness, which—There’s nothing wrong with his reaction to being back home. Hell, if anything, it was just concerning as to how Wild and Four took the portal. It seemed to be worst one for the two—Hopefully-

“Yeah. I- I’m sorry. We should just be a thirty minute walk until we make it to Castle Town, and I can easily get us rooms upon arrival.”

Wars spoke fast and started to lead them halfway through his words.

Legend bit back an apology.

They shouldn’t have been so harsh with their words, yet their mouth held up the thought of just apology’s. Ravio kept reminding them not to apologize too much, but eventually after another adventure, apologizing was fucking stupidly impossible—and they kinda just…gave up.

They could write an apology later. Wars sure as hell needed one, because Legend’s words do sometimes carry a bit too much weight. But right now, his words can’t even choke out much of anything. No snarky remark, or some stupid shit to try and lighten the mood— No. Just silence.

Being selectively mute sucked, and honestly— Out of all times, why did their voice drop now?

….

The rest of the night was just that, not only from Legend but also everyone else. Silence through the whole group, not even Wind tried to speak, and normally she always had much to say.

But no.

The walk to castle town felt dry and empty. The checking into the inn, which Wars used sign to get rooms for—Hell the man was shocked to see the Captain not speaking, it’s clear after the war, or, his adventure: He talked far more freely—Yet still the whole chain kept silent.

Legend had slipped a note to Wars, before walking to bed—Although why they did it? Nobody could really tell.

With that everyone seemed rather exhausted. The silence may as well be resolved in the morning, or everyone was probably hoping that with Four and Wild up: The mood would somewhat lighten, and bring back something to the morning other than the lasting overwhelming deadness the group had brought to this inn.

Everyone took to their rooms, and fell asleep quite quickly; Completely forgetting about the concept of dinner, yet… It was doubtful that anyone would’ve wanted to eat. It just didn’t seem fitting at the moment.

Everything just was so…Silent.

What a pitiful night.

When Linkle finally arrived at Castle Town all bright and early. Birds were calling out and the town wasn’t very awake. There was an inn that seemed to be having a quite busy morning—She heard that someone rented out all of the rooms— Just for the night!?   Yet! That’s not why she was there. Of course, it was hell getting through the guards, but she eventually got to the throne room, greeted by only Zelda and Impa.

Because of course, her lovely brother went missing four months back, and they were hoping Linkle knew something: Which to their defeat, she didn’t!

But, switching conversations, made for a lively three hour morning, which did involve tea. Because if Linkle isn’t a tea spiller, you’ve got the wrong bitch.

Mid conversation, the door slowed to an open, probably a guard- Although Linkle could’ve sworn that Zelda had told the others not to come in, or bother them! Looking over, her jaw simply dropped.

“BROTHER!?”

Right as she yells it, Impa and Zelda look as well. Look to see Link, standing there with a somewhat sheepish smile.

“Hey…?”

“Where the hell have you been!?”

Zelda calls out, the look of confusion and concern riddled all over her face, she looks about ready to question him about what the hell he’s been doing for the last couple months.

“About that—“

Impa suddenly adds in,

“You better have a good explanation, with proof.”

Link sighs, before finally talking again:

“Yeah, basically I’ve been time traveling? Like— Okay, it’s Hylia’s mission or…Something like that?”

Nobody looks impressed, and with that Wind runs in— Clearly ready to express everything openly, because Wars had a shit explanation, he’s good at planning things— Unlike Wind though, Wars simply can’t explain in depth!

“Hylia has brought 9 of us together—we’re all Link and have had experience with ganon or some sort of evil, we all individually have the hero spirit within us—Fighting against some sort of evil that’s been going across all our lands, and infecting monsters with black blood, overall making them stronger and meaner!”

Wind says easily, although they’re normally the one to tell it along to whatever Link joins their odd pairing of a team.

Along her words, the other heros walked in—Except Wild.

“That and, we still are unaware of what sort of evil we face against”

“Just that it’s a bitch.”

Legend of course adds to Time’s statement, looking at Twilight as they grin. Clearly some sort of inside joke? Linkle thinks.

It doesn’t take long for a brief introduction of names and such. Wind was going to tell them about the change in gender, newly she/her pronouns, however Imps suddenly spoke up before she could even bother.

“You said there are nine of you, however I only count eight?”

Wars sighed, before walking off— flipping Four off as they make a comment about “The new loss of such a pretty scarf” which confuses everyone, who isn’t a Link.

After a bit more of brief conversation, Wars comes back.

As to Four’s word, they aren’t wearing his scarf anymore.

Instead, Wild—Who's holding Wars hand and mostly hiding behind them, since they seem uncomfortable being in the castle, or around royalty—Is wearing the blue scarf. It’s wrapped around them very comfortably, and it’s clear It also seems to be hiding Wild’s scars, being pulled up a bit so that nobody would stare at them, or make any worried comments.

“This is Wild, our Ninth member.”

“Hi Wild!!!!” Linkle excitedly yells, which makes them hide even more behind Wars.

“Wild isn’t really comfortable around people they don’t trust.” Rulie quietly adds, being a little uncomfortable with others in their own state.

Impa nods in recognition, and Wind finally gets everyone’s attention by clapping their hands together—Which startles everyone, and causes Four to almost throw the book they’d been holding…. Luckily, Sky grabbed their arm before they could.

“I have a really important thing I’d like to tell you three!”

She says pointing to Zelda, Impa, and Linkle; Which of course draws their full attention.

“So….When you last knew me during the whole war shenanigans- I used He/Him! But— Well, it’s been a year since then, and…I’d actually prefer if you’d call me she/her…? I….I’m a girl. Really.”

Her words start off fairly confident, although slowly trail off to something more sheepish and shy, as though not sure if they’d understand…..Zelda and Impa both seem to be very accepting, but the first to speak is Linkle.

“Oh! You’re transgender, right? I will absolutely do my best using your correct pronouns Wind! In fact, I have a friend who transitioned a couple years ago, and after a bit— I swear, I will perfect your pronouns.”

The smile and bright gleaming face that Wind has is honestly heartwarming. To have someone accept you that simply, to be so comforting and accepting…. With a smile like that, it’s clear Linkle just made her day.

“Hey. Wait, I never knew you had any friends who were trans?”

Zelda adds, and Impa gives the not mean, but, truthful- “you don't have that many friends,” look. They seem…Confused at that.

“Uh—“

Every single Link instantly looks to Wars. The entire chain fucking side eyes him, with a look of, ‘oh really?’ In fact, even his protege is looking at him…. Which calls for a very friendly view.

Wars suddenly spits out the drink he’d grabbed.

“Why the shit are we all looking at me?!”

“You poor soul….” Legend mockingly adds.

“Wha—“

“Linkle by friend, you meant brother, right?” Wind adds with an absolute grin.

By that point Wars jaw has just dropped. Yes, of course he did transition from female to male, but…. What the fuck.

It was clear Wars didn’t plan to be outed after Linkle’s comment, but….. Well, his gay ass siblings planned to change that.

“Oh! Don’t tell me, you never came out to your Zel or Impa?”

Four adds with a wicked look in his eye. Which, his eyes are now a very defined blue…. Wars doesn’t get the color changing eye thing.

“Okay that—“

Zelda suddenly speaks up, causing absolutely everyone, literally everyone— To fall into hysterical laughter.

Even Wars themself were losing it.

“YOU DON'T HAVE A DICK!?”

It’s the perfect ending, I know.
