Chapter Text

 “Morgana, it’s time.”

The addressed girl frowned, and couldn’t resist from sighing. The plane from Phoenix had landed  just a short while after she had woken up, and it definitely hadn’t been the bed she had tucked herself into last night.

She really didn’t know how it happened but one moment she had been sleeping peacefully in her own bed, in her own bedroom in her own home and the next she had woken up in a plane to freaking Forks – a place named after an utensil for crying out loud! - next to Isabella 'just call me Bella´ Swan with a changed identity as her sister, Morgana Swan.

And, unfortunately, that wasn’t the only crazy thing that had happened to the poor girl either. While she had been frantically trying to figure out how on earth she had managed to get herself into this situation – this didn’t usually happen unless it was an extremely realistic dream for some reason which she very much doubted - she found a note in her pocket randomly sticking out, saying;

Have fun with your new life and remember, just be yourself ;)

With a damn winky face at the end of it.

Yep.

This was very much real.

She had no clue what was going on, who wrote that note – certainly not herself, it wasn’t even her own handwriting! – but apparently she was stuck in Twilight now, for reasons unknown and a body that was definitely not hers.

And the girl, now called Morgana apparently – she swore there was some weird kind of name randomizer going on here, seeing as both sisters names ended with the same damn letter – couldn’t even curse about it – she had tried - or respond to her new big sister verbally – she had tried that as well - because apparently her vocal cords had also taken a permanent vacation.

Luckily for her Bella didn’t seem to have noticed her attempts at speaking -

“Oh, and we'll get a new notepad for you later today. I can’t believe you left it in Phoenix,’’ Bella shook her head, a movement that was filled with disapproval.

- she only noticed Morgana’s lack of an alternative way of communication.

Lowering her eyes to look sadly at the ground in silence as soon as they left the plane, Morgana came to the conclusion that she already was not looking forward to her supposed new life.

There were, after all, supernatural creatures living in Forks. Bella might be going into her unhealthy relationship with a vampire before too long, but that didn’t mean Morgana wanted to be pulled into it.

Morgana paused.

Not that I’m supposed to know any of that anyway.

And then she heard a voice calling them over.

Was Charlie Swan an awkward man? Yes. Bad with emotions? Yes. A bad parent? Certainly not. Morgana even gave him a hug and a tiny  smile, because he deserved it and all the love a child of his should be able to give him.

Bella, however, only stood there as awkwardly as him, watching and mumbling a greeting.

‘’Hey Cha-Dad.’’

It was a battle to keep her smile from turning into a frown, Morgana realized. Just watching Bella and their dad interact made the air thicken with awkwardness. Bella almost calling their dad by his first name seemed to make it worse.

Why did Bella decide she wanted to move to Forks again?

Oh yeah, so that her – I mean, our - mom can travel happily together with step-dad Phil. Almost forgot.

But even so, she felt like Bella could at least make a bit more of an effort. Morgana might not be able to talk – no thanks to whatever deity it had been to put her here in the first place – but she at least tried to be a good daughter who was at least happy to see her dad even if he had only been officially her dad for a few minutes max.

To Morgana, first impressions were everything, even if her dad knew the person who should be in charge of this body longer than for how long she’d been here – not even a goddamn day.

Hello Charlie Swan, a.k.a Chief Swan, my new dad, how are you doing today? Hope you don’t mind me accidently hijacking the body of your daughter who's not supposed to exist in the first place.

Yeah, that would go over well if she could actually talk. Note the sarcasm. Makes her think she probably should be careful how she interacted with people from now on. Considering her own knowledge about the series things might become…

Interesting.

Morgana could definitely admit to being a bit scared of Edward Cullen. If she didn’t have Bella’s ability to shield mind reading powers then…

I’ll be screwed.

She stepped into the back of the car.

And the plot definitely will be screwed.

Bella sat next to dad.

Rosalie might just assassinate me in my sleep for good measure.

She shuddered.

‘’You alright over there, Morgana?’’ their dad asked as he rode them home.

Morgana nodded, her smile strained.

‘’She needs a new notepad,’’ Bella piped up.

‘’You forgot it?’’ dad’s eyebrows rose in surprise. Apparently that didn’t happen often, if at all, considering the reaction, but what would Morgana know about that?

‘’Yeah, she did.’’

Bella responded before her sister could even respond by nodding again.

Morgana frowned, but decided to look out of the window to keep her mind off of her new, voiceless life for now while her big sister and their dad spoke about a truck he obtained from Billy Black, one the sisters were to share and take to Forks High together the next day.

Joy.

Grey clouds.

Trees.

Grass.

Moss.

Green and water puddles everywhere.

Rain falling from the sky.

Morgana blinked

How very depressing

Morgana had it all figured out.

Looking at herself in the mirror she could definitely see it. The same brown hair color as Bella, as well as the same brown eyes and pale skin. The only thing that was different, was that Morgana was a little shorter than her sister and had a rounder face due to her hair being shorter and styled in a bob.

All-in all, Morgana appreciated that she at least looked nice. Short hair was also much easier to tend to, so she could only give the reflection in the mirror her approval.

Dad had also talked about junior year for the both of them, so that meant they were definitely twins. Meaning they were both 17 years old right now. Hooray! At least graduating from High School, again, wouldn’t take too long this time around.

Morgana guessed she was the younger of the two since she wasn’t supposed to exist in the first place. She was certain that she just suddenly popped out of thin air and her new family and the people on the plane got fake memories of her implanted in them.

With a shrug, she left and went to her bedroom to unpack.

She, for one, was happy that she didn’t have to share a room with Bella. Along with Bella talking in her sleep and Edward going to start stalking said girl eventually, Morgana would most likely end up sleep deprived if they had to share, and maybe, probably, most likely end up hurting herself trying to slap some sense into the mind reading vampire for being a creepy stalker.

Her bedroom might be smaller than Bella’s, but Morgana didn’t mind. The walls were a soft white, with small grey flowers. Her bed with light red bedcovers was in the left corner of the room, with a white nightstand just under the window.

At the wall just next to the bedroom door, right in front of the end of her bed, was the closet. Lastly there was a wooden desk with enough room for other stuff on it, like books and a computer, and a chair.

It looked like she had less to unpack then her sister.

Basic necessities, clothes, along with -

Her eyes widened in surprise.

She had her Nintendo DS! Her game cards, too, and oh god! Was that her Pikachu plushie? The one she always had on her bed in the real world? It was an old and worn Pikachu plushie, a little chubby with a way too small tail, but still a plushie she held the closest to her heart because she had it since she was a kid.

Before Morgana knew it, she felt a tear run down her cheek. She hadn’t thought much about it since got send here, but seeing that some of the things she loved so much had actually come with her through time and space to accompany her on this journey made her so happy.

She hugged Pikachu close to her chest and sighed, feeling content for the first time today.

Maybe this won’t be so bad after all.

After a while of hugging her fluffy and worn friend, Morgana put the Pikachu plushie on the bed and went back to unpacking, noticing that her video game console and plushie weren’t the only things that had been send down with her.

She had found a necklace she had gotten from her actual birth mother when she had turned 20 in the real world – which in actuality hadn’t been all that long ago - it was in the shape of a leaf. She also found her Maneki Neko that ran on solar power.

I doubt it’s paw will move any time soon, Forks isn’t known for the sun.

She gave the grey sky a dirty look, but Morgana put her unresponsive Maneki Neko in front of the window anyway.

But when it’s sunny, it means Maneki Neko is happy to wave the Cullen coven off to their camping trip. Such a good cat, Morgana mused, and I don’t even need to feed it.

The rest were clothes – clothes that mostly suited the weather in Phoenix than here. There were a few  dresses – she was pretty damn certain she owned more than Bella did – but mostly jeans and t-shirts, and clothes for the colder days.

She put them away, neatly folded.

There was a knock on her open bedroom door. Morgana looked up, blinking at her dad standing in the doorway.

‘’Morgana,’’ he said, ‘’I found a notepad you can use.’’

Morgana smiled gratefully, eyes lit up. She didn’t know any sign language – and apparently the girl that shouldn’t exist had been thought to just write everything down anyway – so this would be a big help if she had to communicate.

She took the notepad and pen from her dads hands and replied.

Thank you, dad!

Dad chuckled, and patted her head.

‘’No problem kid. I’ll leave you to unpack the rest.’’

Morgana felt oddly warm from the fatherly affection. Maybe her hug from earlier today had warmed him up to her, cause she knew that Charlie Swan wasn’t one to be affectionate like that after years of not seeing his daughters.

Well at least, not towards Bella.

But then again…

Treat people the way you want to be treated, that’s The Golden Rule.

When Morgana and Bella got to school the next morning, their outrageously loud truck simply booming out their arrival as soon as they got there - It might be their only available vehicle, but Morgana didn’t like that truck. It drew too much attention their way. Maybe not in the looks department, like Edward's Volvo, but definitely in the sound department. Bella had protested, saying it has personality - the first thing the forced dimension traveler had decided on was trying to avoid the Cullens as much as possible and in doing so, hopefully, avoid the plot for the most part.

She would have to do her hardest not to think when in their presence about everything she knew, since she didn’t know if Edward could access her mind or not.

One part of her hoped that she would have the same ability as Bella, but even Morgana knew that would be pushing her luck.

After attending a few classes and not having spotted a single vampire from the Cullen coven yet, Morgana quickly realized that Forks High School was an experience she could’ve gone without. She knew she was probably overreacting since it was the first day and all, but she was definitely not in a happy mood, and it wasn’t even lunch time yet.

First of all, Mike Newton was supposed to follow Bella around like the golden retriever he was, not her! And these kids all talked way too much, asking personal questions she never had time to answer before subjects were changed again and shattering her ears off.

Morgana also wasn’t used to not being able to talk, though none of that seemed to bother the school population. She had expected some form of bullying because of her disability, but so far it hadn’t happened.

Quite the opposite really.

People were being overly friendly and a bit too interested.

It was surprisingly difficult to use her communication items when walking around and having to watch out where you’re going at the same time. As much as she wanted to tell Mike and the other people of the gossip group to leave her alone already – Angela Weber was the only one who she could tolerate since the only thing she had done was introduce herself - she decided to ignore them instead, with a forced smile on her face.

At least Morgana wasn’t the only one unhappy with all the first day attention. She knew from canon that Bella had her fair share from the gossip group as well though this time around she wasn’t being stalked by a blond puppy.

No, in this alternate reality Mike seemed to have a thing for the silent types more so than the clumsy types.

Joy.

Morgana shot the happy blond boy a dirty look as he ‘escorted' her against her will to her next class, which was art, while babbling about things she didn’t care about. When Morgana first took in her schedule at the start of the day, she had been surprised to see that she actually had art class.

Morgana didn’t mind that one bit. To her being able to be creative at all was a pleasure all-in itself. Maybe she might be able to enjoy school at least a little just because of those classes, because she definitely didn’t enjoy stuff like math and P.E.

Screw those classes.

“Where here,” Mike beamed at her, being oblivious to her irritated expression, “I'll see you at lunch.” Which was instantly translated to, ‘I'll be here to bring you to lunch and you have no choice in the matter.’

Morgana refrained from shuddering as as she reluctantly waved him off. She’d have to to tell Mike to back off when the excitement about her and Bella started to calm down. Preferably sooner, but this was the first day. She didn’t want to be rude to someone who was obviously just being a bit too friendly –

Oh, who am I kidding.

It was obvious Mike had a crush on her, much to a certain girls chagrin.

Jessica Stanley was being nice to her for now, but if Mike kept his attention on Morgana, she was sure the girl would end up trying to glare her to death eventually, or maybe worse. That girl was too obvious in her feelings as well.

Morgana headed into the art classroom. The teacher, a redhead with glasses, gave her a warm smile, didn’t even try to force the mute girl to introduce herself – heaven knows how many teachers had tried and failed to make her do so today simply because they forgot she couldn’t talk – and said:

“Glad to have you with us, Ms. Swan. Theres a seat free next to Alice Cullen.”

Morgana froze when she heard the name.

Oh no.

‘’She’ll be your partner for any future art projects as well – ‘’

Someone.

‘’- since she’s your neighbor, so – ‘’

Help.

‘’- try and get along with each other, okay?’’

Me!

Morgana nodded dumbly in response, following the teachers gaze into the direction she had to go,

Alice, despite the bruises under her eyes from the lack of feeding, was the most gorgeous person in the entire room and sitting all the way in the back. She had raised her hand to let the new girl see where she was supposed to go.

God, she really wanted to curl up into a ball and cry.

She hadn’t even seen any vampires from the Cullen coven around the school yet!  She had expected their first appearance to be at lunch, with Jessica gossiping to Bella and her about them even though they’d most likely hear every damn word she said anyway, since it had been that way in canon too.

But now Alice Cullen just all of a sudden was in her art class!

Seriously?

Morgana resisted the urge to sigh. Where all girls with the last name of Swan destined to sit next to at least one vampire in one of their classes?

Apparently so.

She answered her own question in her mind, and then Morgana slowly made her way over. There were whispers all around them, which she decided to ignore – it was probably just gossip anyway - and she sat down next to the pixie vampire - as in the vampire's pixie cut hairstyle - not daring to look at her.

Please ignore me, please don't eat me, please ignore me, please don't -

“I'm Alice Cullen, It’s nice to meet you partner.“

Damn it!

She actually stressed that word!

Feeling a bit reluctant, Morgana got out her notepad and wrote on it, because, even though she really didn’t want to, she at least had the decency to be polite and answer. After she was finished, she then slowly turned to look at the way too impossible to be human face and pushed her notepad towards Alice.

It’s nice to meet you too, Alice. I’m Morgana Swan.

Alice’s smile grew, dark golden eyes glittering and Morgana was pretty sure that her face went bright red in that instant. She had to look away, and fast.

God, she was so happy she couldn’t talk right now, or she would be certain she would be stuttering. No one was permitted to look that beautiful and take anyone’s breath away with just a single smile.

It should be illegal!

Focus Morgana, focus!

Morgana willed her blush away. Alice’s supernatural, alluring presence and way too perfect and beautiful face was something she was going to have to get used to, at least in this class.

And talking, and being each other’s partner for art projects…

This was not going to plan.

She was going to have to socialize with Alice Cullen.

Eventually.

But for now…

She was going to try to ignore the pixie in the room, and there would be most definitely be no staring on her part. No more shyness and no more blushing either!

As Morgana put herself to work with whatever it was they had been assigned to do by the teacher, and managed to actually have some fun with it she was being fully oblivious to Alice staring at her and her work for most of the class.

Before she knew it, the bell rang, signaling it was lunch time. Morgana looked her work over. The subject had been to draw any supernatural creature they wanted to draw, which would be graded next week. She had chosen an unicorn in a forest that could be out of a fairy tale, but it was no close to being done yet.

After cleaning up, Morgana stood from her chair and Alice’s very cold body passed by her elegantly, briefly flickering her eyes to Morgana’s and holding her gaze with an intensity that had her reeling back for a moment, before dancing out of the room.

Morgana blinked, stunned.

What was that all about?

‘’Morgana!’’ An all too familiar voice exclaimed way too happily once she made it out of the classroom.

Morgana groaned silently when Mike caught her, and basically forced her to come with him to the cafeteria, showing her where the food was – Morgana only took an apple and a juice box because the rest looked extremely unappetizing – and then made her sit down at the gossip table.

Her sister was already there, looking like she wanted to be anywhere but at that table. Bella was frowning and looking longingly at some of the empty tables that were quickly being filled up by other students. Morgana felt that. Bella also didn’t pick much to eat either, Morgana saw as soon as she sat down.

Suddenly she frowned, as she could very easily see several pieces of chewing gum sticking to the bottoms of the table.

Gross.

It looked like that wasn’t so much different as in the real world then. She had yet to spot a single piece of chewing gum under the tables in the classes she had already attended. Morgana was pretty certain there were a few tables that actually had that, but luckily it hadn’t been under any of the ones she had been assigned to sit at yet.

Again, very gross.

It made her wonder if the underside of the Cullen’s table in the cafeteria was clean. Just a curious thought, really.

Bella smiled when she saw Morgana and leaned toward her, whispering quietly, ‘’How did classes go for you, Morgana?’’

It went well. How about you, Bella?  Morgana wrote.

Bella’s smile became a bit more strained.

‘’The classes are to be expected, but everyone is too curious for their own good. And some don’t even seem to understand sarcasm when it’s right in their face!’’

What happened? Morgana asked, even though she did have a feeling where this was going.

‘’Well I don’t remember his name, but a guy asked why I wasn’t tan for a girl from Phoenix. I told him I was part albino – ‘’

Morgana snorted.

‘’- and it completely flew over his head!’’

Bella tensed and got quiet when more people joined the table and she gained some curious looks from Jessica and Mike, probably because she was talking too low to be heard by them, officially shutting up when ‘that guy’, later introduced as Eric Yorkie, also came over to sit with them, tray in hand.

The instant the gossip started, Morgana started to ignore everyone and decided to look around the cafeteria, taking everything in.

Briefly, she even decided to look towards the Cullen table, a bit curious to see what the other vampires looked like despite her wanting nothing to do with them whatsoever. What she saw exceeded her expectations, they looked far more beautiful than canon described them - not only that but they looked even better than the actors from the movies, as well -and she had a hard time looking away.

Damn vampire allure.

It was then that Alice caught her looking and winked.

Morgana ducked her head in an instant, her face turning red again against her will. She had not expected Alice to have any form of interaction with her outside of art class! Morgana wanted to kick herself for getting shy again and looked at Bella from the corner of her eye, who didn’t seem to have noticed the interaction because she was too busy being mesmerized by the beauty of the vampires herself, her eyes lingering a bit too long on Edward.

Oh great, here we go, thought Morgana dryly.

‘’Who are they?’’ Bella asked breathlessly.

That was the moment Jessica had been waiting for apparently. While the overly eager gossiper filled Bella in about the Cullens, Morgana tuned her out in favor of doing her best not to alert Edward through her thoughts and eating the apple she had gotten, thinking to herself that maybe she should just bring her own lunch next time since most of the cafeteria food here seemed pretty gross.

Bella, in the meantime, was hanging on to every single word Jessica said.

Some of the others sometimes piped up in the middle of the story and then, eventually, Bella found herself going on the defense when the gossip queen got to the ‘’they’re all adopted and in a relationship except for Edward since he doesn’t date, Ms. Cullen can’t have any children and she and her husband are really young’’ part of the story in a voice that was less than friendly.

And then Jessica gasped.

Loudly.

So loud in fact, that Morgana was startled by it, eyes growing wide and her ears ringing.

What the hell was that?

‘’No way,’’ Jessica cried in excitement, bouncing up and down in her seat, ‘’Edward Cullen is looking at me!’’

Oh.

Was that it?

Really?

Morgana looked at her in disbelief because Edward Cullen, of all people, looking at you was not in any way exciting.

It was simply creepy.

Especially with the mind reading.

That overly dramatic gasp of hers had been completely unnecessary!

Don’t roll your eyes.

‘’I think he’s looking at Bella and Morgana,’’ Angela corrected nicely.

Don’t roll your eyes.

Jessica looked green with envy.

‘’More like glaring,’’ Mike muttered under his breath, giving Edward a glare of his own that looked weak in comparison.

It went unheard by Bella, who sighed almost dreamily.

Morgana couldn’t resist any longer.

She rolled her eyes.

Bella was crying when it was time to go home. She had basically told Morgana that biology had been hell and that the handsome boy sitting next to her, that being of course one Edward Cullen, had been giving her mean looks the entire lesson.

And not only that, apparently he despised her so much that he had wanted to switch his biology hour with any other available class, which he also had failed at getting.

Morgana didn’t know what to say to make her feel any better, but she did feel a little bad for her. She had seen it all happen herself, just sitting a few tables away from them with a partner of her own who she was certain had never appeared in the books or the movies.

Biology was one of the only classes she shared with Bella, and seeing Edward almost destroying his side of the table simply because he had trouble controlling his instincts had been a sight to behold. It was way better live, but also way more frightening.

Morgana had been very careful in holding back any of those thoughts. No need to alert the already going out of control mind reader any further. So far, she thought she had been doing well in not thinking about the things she knew, otherwise she was sure she would’ve already been approached by him or any of his siblings after lunch.

Unless they decided to wait until she was fast asleep in her bedroom, so they could force her to silently pass away in her sleep. For them, it would be an extremely easy assassination job.

Morgana shuddered.

I really hope not.

Anyway, It really wasn’t Bella’s fault that her blood sung for Edward and made him want to kill her. Not that she knew that last part, but still. Him glaring at her, hating on her for no reason as Bella put it, was still better than an entire classroom getting massacred by a thirsty vampire.

Edward’s side of the table was also a noteworthy sacrifice in order to keep the rest of the class safe. Morgana was just glad that no one, not even Bella, seemed to have seen the random crack in the table  that most certainly hadn’t been there at the start of the lesson.

She had kept quiet though, and just rubbed Bella’s back in comfort and trying her best to be the good sister to the one person she never really wanted to be a sister to.
